Amelia Storm #2

Storm's Peril

Rate this book
Knowledge is power peril...

In a city as large as Chicago, the wicked never sleep. When an undocumented migrant teenager goes missing, military veteran and Special Agent Amelia Storm teams up with her partner to take down what could be the most shocking forced labor and sex trafficking ring her hometown has ever seen.

The case reeks of mafia involvement, but even with an investigative reporter as an informant, there’s little in the way of leads. Suspicions cast a wide web, and the stakes climb when the boy’s sister and their journalist informant also disappear. Still, no one is talking, and every second counts if they hope to find them alive.

As sinister secrets are unearthed, Amelia won’t stop until she frees the innocent from the evil that lurks in the shadows of her beloved city. What she discovers hits a little too close to home. Was her brother involved? She needs to know, but some answers are better left unasked.

Wicked.. For every trafficker FBI Agent Amelia Storm puts away more just keep popping up even more twisted than the previous. The bad guys (even those pretending to be good) are increasing. Amelia and her partner are in for intense (even more) crazy times to come. Need the next book now!!

Great Story

Omg. What did I just read. This story was great I couldn't stop reading it. I was waiting on justice to be served. But.... What has my mind reeling is the drop at the end of the book.. What??? What happened? Better finish the series.

Great read

It was definitely disturbing, because you know this type of stuff really happens. This was suspenseful and the plot had a few unexpected twists. Now I can’t wait til the 3rd come out in March.

Amelia and Zane are looking into a missing person that turns into a trafficking case, both labor and sex. Clues are hard to find, and an investigative reporter also is involved. Plus a fellow agent tries some crap with Amelia which didn't turn out so good. I really liked how they showed the characters and the things they went through within the case and otherwise. I didn't see the 'ending' coming either. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

I enjoyed the first book so much that I bought this second one.
Mary Stone is an expert in avoiding the words: "I said" and "he said" etc. Sometimes it made me cringe when another chair creaked, when someone made yet another facial expression, and so on.
And as most times, the second novel didn't quite have the same quality as the first, but I'll give the third one a try soon.
Would I recommend this author to other? Yes, I would.

1st, like the cover…

2nd, this book had a problem. The authors set the bar extremely high with the 1st book of this series that's inevitable to compare and this 2nd book doesn't deliver.

The identity of "Red" wasn't a surprise, since the 1st book, he was the obvious choice and in this book he is a creep
.
The story had more bends than a rollercoaster but without the emotion, it felt like the authors wanted to create a vortex of problems and what really made it a muddy story.

The story had roads that ends in nothing or with really un-interesting parts.

The bad guys are laughable. They don't deliver on being *bad guys" is like reading a grocery list.

The main characters needed the same energy shown in the 1st book because now they're lost in space.

The end was a fake end that really shows Lawson as a creepo. Good, but the way he portrays him is like there's a judge and jury before our girl beat him.

And after all the circles I got bored, and I love the different series that the author connects.

I received this book as an ARC and choose to review.

Not sure when this author is going to realize you can’t just change things in a story to fit where you want it to go now if you already set it up a completely different way.

‘Military veteran turned FBI special agent Amelia Storm returns to her corrupt hometown of Chicago to avenge her brother’s death, becoming an unstoppable force that exposes the city’s darkest secrets while solving its most dangerous crimes.’

Storm's Peril is Book #2 in the Amelia Storm Series by Mary Stone. This series turned out to be a fast-moving mix of crime, suspense, and personal drama that was so easy to get hooked on. I have been devouring my way through Ms. Stone’s series/books for a while now, and can always count on her to deliver an engrossing read, and this series didn’t disappoint.
The books follow Amelia Storm, a military veteran turned FBI Special Agent, as she tackles dangerous cases that often hit close to home - especially after returning to her corrupt hometown of Chicago.
Amelia is the heart of the series. She’s smart, determined, and unafraid to push boundaries, but she’s also human, carrying the weight of past trauma and personal loss. That balance of toughness and vulnerability makes her feel real and very relatable.
The pacing is quick, the dialogue sharp, and the settings are vivid enough to pull you right into all the action. Each book works as its own mystery - but reading them in consecutive order lets you see not only Amelia’s growth but also the bigger story threads unfolding over the series.
If you like strong female leads, gritty investigations, and thrillers that mix action with emotional depth, then this series is the one for you.
Happy Reading…

Trying to catch my breath, wow!

📚 Storms Peril 📚
FBI thriller/suspense
✒ by Mary Stone & Amy Wilson
📚Adult, for subject matter: human trafficking, pedophiles, & violence
🗨Wow! I feel like I've just stepped off a rollercoaster & I need to catch my breath! From intense moments like foot chases, and interactions that gave me the heebie-jeebies, to feeling the pressure of finding missing teens in the disgusting world of human trafficking, and fighting corrupt law enforcement & the halls of powerful men that feel untouchable, Stone & Wilson lead us down their merry twisted lanes of organized crime. This Amelia Storm series reads like a FBI weekly TV series, and I have to grab the next book, even when left with a major hook for the next installment! Each book gives more insight into the character's backgrounds, and I am invested! I love that they give the POV of the MC's AND the villians. World building, the characters, and the plot feels like it could be real, and, oh boy, the twists! The villains are vile & creepy, and I can't wait for Storm & her partner Palmer to take them down! Following the legwork, paperwork, tedium, frustration, "hurry up and wait", then the inevitable break in the case, makes me feel like I'm there with them every step of the way.
I can't wait for book 3 to come out to see what happens next!

I received an ARC from the author, and have chosen to post a review.

Facing Evil on Hone Turf

Having been introduced to Agent Amelia Storm is the first book of the series, thus reader was immediately caught up in thedrama of Storm's Peril. Amelia's attachment to Chicago and the underdog is rooted in her life in that city. However, her time away in the military has definitely changed and strengthened her into a kick ass FBI agent.

While she and her partner, Agent Zane Palmer, seem quite different their building friendship and speedy meshing make them the perfect task force for a forced labor/human trafficking case. A young undocumented male has accepted a sketchy summer job and may have played into the hands of one of Chicago's mobs. When his younger sister goes missing the case heats up. With a lead from a local reporter, Storm is ready to attack the case head on. However when the reporter turns up the dead victim of a mugging; there may be more involved then was apparent.

Add to the case some personal dating drama for Storm, the continuing hunt for the LE mole, and glimpses of past relationships, and the reader is taken on a ride through the underbelly of life as an FBI agent in Chicago.

A reminder to authors Stone and Wilson, forcing the reader to wait for book three of the series just may be another crime!

I'm liking Amelia Storm as a character and this was absolutely a good book, having Amelia go up against a human trafficking ring. That's all well and good, but once again I finish a Mary Stone book that has no ending. Even in a series, the reader should get some satisfaction when finishing an entry and that just never happens with this author. No details on how things turned out for the victims besides a few sentences, and again a major revelation on literally the last line of the novel before I immediately get hit with an advertisement to buy the next book in the series. Right.

I'm torn because I really enjoy this character, but I suppose I'll have to accept the fact that I'm going to be stuck with cheap cliffhangers until the series ends. I can't rate anything this author writes above a three for that simple fact.

STORM'S PERIL by Mary Stone and Amy Wilson is the second installment into their  Amelia Storm Series. This collaboration between Mary Stone and Amy Wilson drew me in from the beginning and kept hooked until the end.  I was a little hesitant about this series as the first book did not live up to my expectations, but once I started reading I couldn't stop till the end.

The first chapter gives you an insider look into forced labor and human trafficking and later, child prostitution.

An investigative journalist has approached Amelia and Agent Palmer with a story of children vanishing after accepting a summer job. It doesn't take the two agents to long with a little research to decide one of the cartels or mob families may be involved.

I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review. I really enjoyed this book which is well-written with well-rounded characters, some of whom you'll like and others you won't. This second installment definitely met my expectations for a great thriller and look forward to more installments. If you enjoy thiller and mysteries,  I highly recommend this book. Unfortunately there is a painful cliffhanger. UGH!

Mary and Amy, you did a wonderful job with this installment.

Page Turner.

Amelia and Zane are in a new case, but it connects back to the first book in terms of the mafia family and a crooked agent or cop. The view of trafficking and forced labor through undocumented immigrants was rough and showed immoral actions, but also timely as there are so many stories regarding immigration and harm coming to those communities. There are several POV from Zane, Amelia, the mafia connection(s) and Joseph. We find a lot of character secrets in this book and see new storylines potentially emerging. Possible romance and the overarching story of Red and his connections are now more prominent.

This is a great series and I can’t wait to read the next book.

Riveting and Dark FBI Thriller
This is the second book in a series. The main plot concerns FBI agents out of the Chicago field office. In the first two episodes, the cases involve human trafficking and slavery. Both books have a strong current of forced sex. It is all pretty dark and disturbing. Other than that, the plots are intense. This book had murders that were only moments old as well as inferred torture and rape. I do not find this enjoyable, even if they do catch most of the bad guys. This series is one hair away from causing nightmares, so I am stopping here. I freely admit that I am a wimp and you are likely to enjoy the stories!

Javier is a teen who wants to help his family so he takes a summer job on a farm but it is shady. It’s a work trafficking ring that has some other shady things happening. Agent Amelia Storm is at it again to find out where he is and help his mom. Is he knows it has to be one of the usual crime families who are known for these things.

I ended up skimming through a lot of this because of the police banter and topic. It was the second in a series and I enjoyed the first one but this one wasn’t pulling me in as much.

I’ve read a few books about sexual trafficking and there were components of that here too which I preferred not to get into again.

After leaving the military Amelia Storm joined the FBI. She worked a case of human trafficking with an arrest of the man they called The Shark. He didn't get the sentence she hoped for but she has to move on. Now her and her partner Agent Palmer have another case that looks like human trafficking. Working the case they find they have a leak in the system so they have to be careful about who they trust. There is also another agent that has his sights set on Amelia so she is constantly looking over her shoulder.

Storms peril ( Amelia Storm: Book 2)

Book 2 of this series was even better than the first one. Amelia & her FBI agent partner, Zane are tasked with trying to find migrant workers that have been trafficked. They only have a short amount of time in which to find where these children and adults have disappeared to. Although some parts are gruesome, overall, I found the story to be really interesting .

This is an ARC and well worth the read. Amelia Storm and her partner,Zane Palmer work for the FBI solving trafficking crimes. This time a newspaper writer comes up with the story of missing kids who might be part of a human labor trafficking ring. As they work the case, the worry of an inside mole continues to haunt the agents. Can they solve the trafficking case before the mole gives the bad guys a heads up. Also, will Agent Joseph Larson continue to be a thorn in Amelia's path

Thrilling!

I’m thoroughly enjoying this intriguing series. The heroine, Amelia Storm, is at one as down to earth as the next gal, with self-doubts surfacing on the regular, she channels her inner warrior whenever the need arises - especially when it comes to the mistreatment of the innocent. She becomes their champion even if it means putting herself in extreme danger to find justice. I’m definitely ready to dive into the next book in the series!

storm’s Peril good title

This book follows Amelia and Zane into a human trafficking case where murder, child abuse and sexual harassment as well as forced labor are all a part of the story.

Mary Stone does and excellent job of letting your imagination take you to the ugly parts of the story without describing in detail what happens.

I am eager to read the next book in the series, but first sleep.

This is a great new series and I am binge reading it. It is a continuation of the the first book and the 3rd book picks up where the 2nd book left off, so important to read in order to understand the back story and how it relates to the current plot. Amelia Storm is a very realistic person and the supporting characters compliment her and are well developed in their own right. The plot moves along and before you know it you have reached the end, hard to stop turning the pages.

Trafficking children...why?

Such a demented group in society....human traffickers. I cannot wrap my head around the lack of respect for our fellow human much less innocent children. How low of a person can you be to think this is. Luckily, Amelia & Zane are trying to stop it while figuring out who the mole is on their team. He is a deviant also. Now there's another sicko in the local PD. A detective even. Whats the world coming to?

FBI Special Agent Amelia Storm and her partner have just been given a new case delivered by an investigative reporter. They team up to find a missing teenage boy and his little sister. The case reeks of trafficking and mafia involvement but they need more clues in order to get a break and find the kids in time.

I was given an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review. The book is well-written with well-rounded characters, some of whom you'll like and others you won't, but it did take me longer than usual to read it. It's on the dark side in places and it wound up bringing back some horrible memories of my own. Still, it's full of action and intrigue and Amelia Storm is a fantastic character. This is a great book and the series is coming along welk, just be aware that there is a dark side. I do recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order.

Mary Stone and Amy Wilson have written the second book in the Amelia Storm series- The Peril of the Storm. The book reads like an “intense storm!” It is difficult to put down once you open it – what is going to happen next? The plot includes human trafficking, undocumented workers, missing children and child prostitution and FBI agents who take them down! The book ends with a lead into the next book in the series! Well written and I highly recommend this book!

Another good read in the series.

I am not a romance reader - I enjoy the action and information that I have learned from reading the series by Mary Stone and Amy Wilson. It is easy to become involved in the story and to know that there are more tales out there about the same characters is a great treat.

Watch your back.

Amelia Storm has battled so much to be a top notch FBI Agent..Outrunning a vicious mob running several illegal deals she has one of the owners dead to rights and he is in a jail cell.. Finding the other owners and the many deals has our Agent running several nights with no sleep ,,trying to put all the pieces in the right spots.

Kept ME interested to want to read next book.

The only thing I didn't like is I don't like continuous stories. I like them To end. But the first two books of the the series kept me wanting to read the next book. It was good and easy to follow and remember details. I will be starting the fourth book.
