Investigative Services Branch (ISB) ranger Ainsley Beaumont arrives in her hometown of Natchez, Mississippi, to investigate the murder of a three-month-pregnant teenager. While she wishes the visit was under better circumstances, she never imagined that she would become the killer's next target--nor that she'd have to work alongside an old flame.

After he almost killed a child, former FBI sniper Lincoln Steele couldn't bring himself to fire a gun, which had deadly and unforeseen consequences for his best friend. Crushed beneath a load of guilt, Linc is working at Melrose Estate as an interpretive ranger. But as danger closes in on Ainsley during her murder investigation, Linc will have to find the courage to protect her. The only question is, will it be too little, too late?

Award-winning author Patricia Bradley continues her Natchez Trace Park Rangers series with a story about how good must prevail when evil just won't quit.

A return trip to the Natchez Trace Park in Mississippi brings on suspense, danger, and action. A teenage girl was found dead and Investigative Services Branch Ranger Ainsley Beaumont of the National Park Service is the lead investigator. She lives in Tennessee but is just back from a cruise and since Natchez is her hometown, she was the logical choice. An old high school boyfriend and former FBI sniper, Linc Steele is working on the Trace as an interpretive ranger tour guide. An bad incident caused him to leave the FBI but because of his background he has been asked to help Ainsley. After an awkward start, they are able to work together and a good thing when someone attacks Ainsley. But before she was attacked, her aunt fell in her home under suspicious circumstances. Not sure who her attacker was, all precautions are taken. Then her other people close to the dead girl are shot. This is an action packed story that is hard to put down and lots of people to look at for possible shooter/attacker(s), including an escaped convict who Ainsley put away or maybe someone close to Ainsley. Suspense, politics, old secrets, drugs, old hurts needing forgiveness, faith, romance...this story has it all to make it a great read.

Patricia Bradley is a new to me author and since suspense is my favorite genre, I decided to give her a try. This is quite good suspense, very detailed with well done characters. I enjoyed the plot and locale of the story very much. And there was a super surprise twist at the end that I did not suspect. Well done.

My thanks to Revell Publishing for a copy of the book via the Net Galley platform. The opinion here is my own.

Ainsley Beaumont has arrived in her hometown of Natchez to work a case for the district Park Ranger. A teen has been murdered on the Trace. Then someone trains their sights on Ainsley. She and Ranger Linc Steele were very close years ago before Ainsley chose a singing career over staying in Natchez. Now with that career behind her, Ainsley has a job that she loves as a law enforcement Ranger. While Linc and she are working together on the case, things heat up and now Ainsley’s life is in danger. Lots of twists and turns and multiple suspects. The excitement does not let up. The book kept me turning pages trying to guess who the culprits were. The characters were interesting and well drawn. I liked the dynamics between Ainsley, her grandmother and great aunt. The missing 1870s diary was an interesting focal point. The message of reconciliation between Ainsley and her dad and counting on God during the tough times rang true. The reconnection with Linc was realistic and provided just the right romantic touch.
I have enjoyed the Natchez Trace series so far. I am so glad there will be a book four!

4.5 stars!

Characters: I enjoyed both Ainsley's and Linc's perspectives. I liked how they both took precautions to keep themselves and each other safe from the criminals and didn't let their egos get in the way. Linc's fear of guns added to the suspense (and gave him an interesting character flaw), and I appreciated seeing him overcome this fear by the end.

Language: Clean.

Moral: Linc's moral involved being courageous and trusting God. Ainsley had strayed from God because she compared Him to her earthly father. Over the story, she grew closer to Him.

Plot: This book had so many criminals! I loved it! Just when I thought they were all taken care of, a new one popped up. Plenty of suspense kept me turning the pages.

Romance: Clean. A few kisses.

Writing: Patricia Bradley's writing style worked really well for this book. She included just the right amount of descriptions to let me "see" what was going on but didn't let the descriptions overwhelm the plot.

Overall: Crosshairs was a great read (probably my favorite of the series so far), and I'm looking forward to reading the fourth book. I'd recommend this novel to those who enjoy Christian fiction and romantic suspense.

Well, that was another wild ride with book 3 in this series! This time we meet Ainsley who is back home in Natchez to visit her grandma. Unfortunately, as soon as she is back things so haywire quickly. Her Aunt Cora, who lives across the street from her grandma, is hurt and Ainsley has to figure out what happened. Things literally start off crazy and just get crazier with each turn of the page.

Ainsley's old flame, Lincoln ends up on the scene because he's been working with Cora on a projects. Sorry, Ainsley, but I liked him right away. Poor Ainsley is dealing with a lot and Linc only wants to help.

That's when things go from bad to worse. People are breaking into houses, shooting at Ainsley, shooting at suspects. It's total crazy town. I couldn't stop turning the pages! lol There are so many twists and turns. I thought it was easy enough to connect the dots, but turns out, not so much. That's what I've loved about this series and specifically this book. Just when I think I know what's going on, I don't!

The bad guys are exactly that... bad and creepy. Then there are side characters who are just the same. I wanted to have Ainsley go back to grandma's house and stay put! Too many crimes to solve first.

One of the things I really liked about this story was that Linc & Ainsley didn't go tromping off into danger all by themselves. It drives me nuts when characters do that. I know that might sound silly, but I loved that in this story. People DID what they said they were going to do. A police officer is assigned to Ainsley, she doesn't try to sneak away from him. Thank you, Patricia, I appreciate that!

I also thought this was the last book in the series and to find out there's going to be a 4th got me super excited!!

*I received this book for review. This is my personal opinion.

4.5 Stars!

What a ride! Crosshairs was nothing like I expected, yet it captured my attention with realistic characters, mysterious diaries, and a unique location!

The characters.

Ainsley Beaumont was independent yet knew when to accept help. I loved her role in solving these cases. She was quick on her feet and I liked seeing how her character grew to forgive those who hurt her in her past. Also, her earlier career choice was cool because it’s not often found in the books I’ve read.

Lincoln “Linc” Steele was a really great guy who had his morals straight. I appreciated how he didn’t see his weakness as what defined him and eventually overcame his fear. For a “hero,” the fact that he was vulnerable was a point for his character in my mind. However, I didn’t care for how he handled the attention from the reporter. Since he knew that their relationship wasn’t going anywhere, I feel like he should have stood up for himself sooner.

Cora and Gran were awesome side characters! I love insistent/bossy elderly ladies with strong Christian views. Plus, they were just cute ‘kay? (They vaguely reminded me off the Baldwin sisters in The Waltons, without the moonshine of course!)

The setting/plot.

I had never heard of the Investigative Services Branch Rangers before, but I loved the setting of Natchez, Mississippi. It was eerie enough for the investigation to take place, and yet still held a small town charm. The plot was good! It was suspenseful and kept me guessing what would happen next. There were a few twists and turns with multiple layers of crime investigation. One thing I wasn’t expecting was there to be such short chapters throughout. The book has 71 chapters in all! Most are varied in length, but a few of them for the “bad guys” POV were as short as half a page.

The short chapters didn’t bother me as much as the main reason I took off half a star. There was some twisted plot twists at the end. Without spoilers, there was some mentally ill motives for murder that had me very disturbed and I felt like that was an unnecessary plot extension that was added last minute. Also, I would have liked to see some of the the cases solved without killing off the bad guy(s).

To sum up, this book was exceptionally good for the suspense genre! The romance didn’t feel skin deep and the themes of forgiveness and second changes were meaningful. I look forward to reading more off this series with book 4 in the coming year!

If you are looking for a Christian suspense novel with action-packed crime solving that will have you reading at 4 a.m. in the morning (true story) then I’d recommend giving Crosshairs a try!

Plus, I love the book covers in this series side-by-side!

"Ainsley Beaumont had at least nine lives, and she'd about used up all of them."

It seemed that everywhere Investigative Services Branch Ranger Ainsley Beaumont went, someone was quite literally taking a shot at her. . . . and she wasn't even at home in Tennessee, Ainsley was currently on assignment in Natchez, Mississippi, where she grew up. Knowing that Ainsley was familiar with the area, she had been sent to Natchez to investigate the tragic death of a pregnant teen-age girl on park property. What she found was a masculine distraction, a great aunt who had been vandalized, confusing family history, and more loose ends than she could count. Did she dare admit that she was glad former FBI sniper, turned interpretive ranger, Lincoln Steele was going to assist her? Maybe. After all, they certainly had history.

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor, If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up."

This story had multiple scenarios playing out within its pages, and layers upon layers of backstories which ultimately culminated into a really good book. Nothing added up until it did, nobody wanted to tell the truth until they had to, nowhere remained safe for very long and practically no one proved trustworthy; even those who should have been. Fans of romantic suspense and in particular this author, might naturally conclude that this is one of her best books to date.

4.5 stars for this 3rd book in the Natchez Trace series. While this is the 3rd book in the series, it definitely stands on its own. Though there are brief mentions of the characters from the prior books, their story-lines don't enter into this one, so you could read these in any order. This book follows Ainsley Beaumont, an investigative ranger based in TN who is sent to investigate a murder in Natchez due to her familiarity with the area. When the local ranger brings in former FBI agent Lincoln Steele as another set of eyes, Ainsley couldn't be more disappointed to have to be working with a former flame who had cast her aside with an ultimatum 15 years prior. The characters in this one were likable and relatable. The story-line kept me turning pages and I didn't know what to expect until the end on who was behind all of the happenings, though I had some suspicions. I enjoyed the mystery, suspense and character development in this one. My only complaint was that the ending felt a bit abrupt. But all of the story-lines were tied up, so it still provided closure. I would definitely recommend this one to fans of romantic suspense. Special thanks to Revell and NetGalley for an advance e-copy of this book. I was under no obligation to provide a review and the thoughts contained herein are my own.

Another taut suspense with a blockbuster ending from a favourite suspense author. Honestly, my head was spinning from all the twists and turns. It seemed like when Ainsley and Linc were making headway something would throw a spanner in the works and they were flung off in another direction. Finding answers leads to more questions and I really enjoyed the investigative field work that builds the suspense. There's so much going on I was on the edge of my seat right to the very end.

And I loved this reunion romance. It's paced well amidst all the intrigue and danger. Both hero and heroine made mistakes in their past that they need to own up to but does that mean they can have a future together now? So complicated and emotional but written very realistically from both points of view. Solid faith threads bring added depth to these characters and enrich the story overall.

Crosshairs ticks all my romantic suspense boxes and then some! And I'm beyond thrill that the fourth book in the Natchez Park Ranger series comes out this summer! Each book can easily be read as a standalone by the way, but, oh....they are sooooo good you'll want to read them all!

I listened to the audible edition narrated by Rachel Dulude who manages to bring an air of urgency to every word she reads! Really added to my enjoyment of the story.

Ainsley Baumont is back home in Natchez, Mississippi. Unfortunately, this isn't a pleasure visit. Instead she is investing the murder of a pregnant teenager in the park. Former FBI Sniper Lincoln Steele is working nearby as an interpretive ranger at the Melrose Estate when he is asked to help Ainsley with the investigation. Linc and Ainsley had a romantic relationship years ago so things are tense at first. Can they work together and find the killer?

Crosshairs is the third installment in the Natchez Trace Park Rangers series and another suspenseful book that will keep readers quickly turning pages to find out the answers to solve the crime--or is it crimes? There is a lot going on in Crosshairs. The plot kept me guessing until the end. I had part of it figured out but there were still a few surprises for me. There are quite a few characters in the book but I did manage to keep them all straight. I liked Lincoln and Ainsley, as well as the other characters--except the criminals, of course. I liked how Linc and Ainsley's relationship unfolded although they didn't have a lot of time for romance in between fighting the bad guys. I also liked that there was healing of old emotional wounds in a couple of relationships. I also thought the faith element was well woven in throughout the book. There is a preview at the back of the book of the next book in the series during the summer of 2022.

"Crosshairs" is a Christian romantic suspense. This is the third book in a series, but it works as a standalone novel. The main characters were engaging, complex, and reacted in realistic ways to events. They asked good questions as they investigated and worked well together. The suspense came from the physical danger to Ainsley since more than one person hated her enough to want her dead. There were also several mysteries that needed to be solved: Who murdered the girl? Who wanted Ainsley's relative's diaries enough to kill for them? And is a criminal that Ainsley sent to prison the one trying to shoot her?

Since we get the bad guy viewpoints, we know more about the dangers than Ainsley does. However, both Ainsley and Linc were sensible about protecting themselves. Linc realized that he needed to genuinely ask God to help him overcome his mental inability to shoot a gun so he could help protect the woman he loves. Their high school dating relationship broke down because of Linc's fears and selfishness. They worked through their past issues as they spent time together. He's changed, and Ainsley admired the man he's become. He built her up and genuinely trusted her abilities. He simply wanted to protect her with more than shouted warnings.

Ainsley came to understand that God did care about her and wanted the best for her life. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this suspenseful novel.

This cleverly plotted novel kept me turning the page. Every time I thought I knew who the villain was, a twist kicked in and took me in another direction. The characters were well-rounded and the story believable.
Ainsley Beaumont, Investigative Services Branch Ranger, takes the lead on investigating the murder of a pregnant teenager inside the Natchez Trace Park. Her heart plummets when Lincoln Steele, former FBI turned Interpretive Ranger and former old flame, shows up to assist with the investigation at the request of a superior.
Guilt haunts Lincoln after almost killing a kid during his FBI days, which causes him to hesitate pulling the trigger to protect his best friend who was wounded and later died. He shelves his gun and refuses to pick it back up, which puts him in an unsafe predicament when someone targets Ainsley and starts shooting. Can he overcome his uncertainty over carrying his weapon? Could Ainsley ever allow him back in her life?
Ainsley appreciates Lincoln’s skills as they work through the investigation, but she can’t forget nor forgive how he betrayed her years ago. Once she finds the killer, she plans to leave town if she’s still alive.

Investigative Services Branch Ranger Ainsley Beaumont is returning to to her hometown of Natchez, Mississippi to investigate a murder. Little did she know that her old flame, Lincoln Steele, a former FBI sniper now investigator, would be assisting her in her hunt for the killer.

Once again, Patricia Bradley pens a suspense thriller that is filled with twists, turns, and unexpected events as Ainsley and Lincoln work to solve this murder. I loved the fact that two older women became mentors to Ainsley as she worked through her past as a singer and moved forward to new horizons. The interactions between Ainsley and Lincoln, as well as their back story, added a nice touch to this novel filled with intrigue but including a touch of romance.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series; and if this is the last, then I hate to say goodbye to these amazing rangers.

This was another exciting and thrilling romantic suspense delivered by Patricia Bradley. And with a murder investigation, historical mystery about missing old diaries and danger around every corner, the end of the book came way too fast.

Ainsley and Lincoln was the perfect main characters for this story. Their history added depth to a new start and I liked how Lincoln's struggle as an FBI sniper was realistically portrayed. The pace between solving the murder, staying alive and solving the mysteries of the diaries was executed well and kept me intrigued.

There was a lot of revelations which was a surprise, other big reveals which I guessed and one closure which came a bit faster than what I expected, but I still enjoyed the thrill.

The focus on reconciliation of broken revelations was a well received theme and I enjoyed seeing the character development.

Fans of Romantic Suspense will enjoy this story.

Crosshairs, the third installment in Patricia Bradley’s Natchez Trace Park Rangers series, is an action-packed romantic suspense novel that readers are sure to enjoy. Even though it is the third book in the series, Crosshairs can easily be read as a standalone novel, and it is my favorite of the series so far.

The romance in the novel is well written and believable as the main characters shared a romantic past. The supporting characters were enjoyable to read, and the mystery kept me guessing until the very end. Well done!

Crosshairs is highly recommended for fans of romantic suspense. I look forward to what Patricia Bradley has in store for readers next!

Crosshairs by Patricia Bradley features a chase through the park with bullets flying, a dead girl, and the burning flash of romance. The plot opened with a dead body on the scene, which definitely captured my suspense loving mind. While I wanted more focused on the forensics behind the element of who murdered the poor girl, the story focused more on chasing who did it without seeing the study of the clues on the body. Yes, the heroine does wander around the woods and goes into the church, but not much time spent on the scene. The heroine does focus on asking different people present at the campground and in the Natchez about the girl, so she does follow through later. The plot was interesting. I could not wait to see how it played out. As for the romance, the heroine and hero had been in a relationship together back in high school. Then life happened. The driven- down emotions were still just below the surface and wanting to break through the whole time of the story. The characters, especially the heroine, have a good backstory that I completely empathize with. She had spunk and determination. I like her personality. The hero fell a little flat to me. He was needy and helpful, but I really did not like him. Overall, Crosshairs by Patricia Bradley lives up to its name as a romantic suspense novel. Lots of action and romance to keep any reader interested.

Crosshairs by Patricia Bradley is the third book in her Natchez Trace Park Rangers series. ISB ranger Ainsley Beaumont returns to her hometown to investigate the murder of a teenager. While working the case with Lincoln Steele, Ainsley ends up in the crosshairs of the murderer. Can Linc protect her against this unseen threat? Wow, this book was action-packed. You never knew what was coming next, and the twist at the end was such a surprise! I love a story where the author can surprise you; and this one did not disappoint!

Crosshairs is a novel full of twists and turns paired with a second chance romance.

From the beginning, I was sucked in. Not only because of the action and suspense but also because of the characters.

I enjoyed watching Lincoln and Ainsley begin to work through the issues that ended their relationship years ago, as well as how they worked together on the case. And as the threads began to come together, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.

Their spiritual arcs were well developed, and I loved seeing the discussions about God’s will and faith. I also liked that it touched on Lincoln’s troubles with making them sound trite.

I haven’t read the second book in the series, but that didn’t keep me from enjoying Crosshairs. Though now I have to go back and read Obsession. I have read the first book of the series, Standoff, and I enjoyed it much more, but Crosshairs is still a great read. I highly recommend it.

Overall, if you love second chance romances and gripping suspense, then Crosshairs is the book for you.

My thoughts: Miss Bradley has rapidly become one of my favorite romantic suspense authors and this book is good reason why. Lovable characters that I could relate to, non-stop suspense, is it wasn't cut and dried and kept me guessing. Did I figure it out? Partially. There were some surprises that I never saw coming. I love the story you cannot wait for the next one in the series. If you like romantic suspense you will love crosshairs. This would make an excellent gift for somebody on your Christmas list to. If you love action, suspense, second chances, and a crisis of faith this is the book for you. Patricia Bradley knows how to weave a story that draws you in from the very beginning and keeps you up late at night.
Ainsley is called back home to Natchez to work on the murder of a teenaged girl when she comes face to face with Linc the man who broke her trust years ago. As a former FBI agent he’s been asked to help assess the crime scene. She isn’t sure how she’s going to be able to work with him. The attraction is still there, but so is the hurt.
Linc is surprised to see Ainsley and soon realizes old feelings haven’t died. Soon the danger is ramping up and instinct tells him this is only the beginning. The stakes are high and the body count is rising. He hasn’t carried a gun for years. With multiple suspects can he keep Ainsley safe, and possibly win back her love?
This series keeps getting better and better—one of the best books I’ve read this year.

This story is infused with excitement and mysterious shooters. There is the involvement of escaped convicts, marijuana, missing historical diaries, murders past and present, and a whole lot more.

Set in the humid, sweltering heat of Mississippi that only a true southerner can comprehend, the rangers race from one scene to another trying to ferret out the guilty culprits. A bit of past romance that begins to take root again adds a sweetness to the story.

Totally clean Christian read that still stokes the reader's imagination and interest.

Thank you in advance to the publisher, Revell (a division of Baker Books), for an advanced review copy through Library Thing. A positive review was not required and all words are my own.

This is the third book of Bradley’s NATCHEZ TRACE PARK RANGERS series, and from the sneak peak in the back – it looks like there is a fourth (4th) one in the works. It looks like I will definitely be adding that to the TBR stack.

This cover is continuing the same “pattern” as the first two books Standoff and Obsession. I can’t wait to see the next one, though as of this review there is no information on book #4 – no synopsis and no cover art.

FYI: for the month of October, Standoff is the Beyond the Book read. You can join their group here:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/Revel...

Like the books before this one – there is a new couple: National Park Services ISB (investigative services branch) Ainsley Beaumont and former FBI Agent Lincoln Steele. Ainsley and Linc have a past.

Readers of Standoff will learn about Brooke and Luke who are mentioned, but do no appear in this book. Hopefully, they’ll return in the next one.

Sam Ryker (Obsession) returns for an appearance, but Emma Winters (also from the second book) isn’t mentioned for most of the book. She has an appearance at the 86% mark. There are no scenes with Sam. Readers won’t get any information about her and Sam in this book or from the characters.

Like the other books, readers need to prepare for a non-stop, suspenseful, twisty, turning, edge-of-seat thrill ride of a story that keeps going RIGHT UP UNTIL THE VERY END (well, at least within 5-10 pages from the end). You blink – you will miss something.

There are mentions of drug abuse/use as well as drug dealing in this book as it relates to a character death. There is a slight reference to human trafficking in this book. I’m wondering if that is going to segue into the next book??

The end of chapter 1 had me hooked and I almost couldn’t put this down! The short chapters make it SO easy to read right through. And, it also keeps the story (as well as the suspense) moving along. Some chapters are barely a page long.

This story has four (4) POVs – Ainsley, Lincoln, Sonny, and Maddox. Each of the characters are intertwined in one way or another.

There are other characters as well: Cora, Gran (Ainsley’s grandmother), J.R (yup, John Ross – Ainsley’s father), and Sarah (a TV reporter).

To keep the reader interested, there are MULTIPLE story arcs. It can, for some readers, get a bit confusing:

📖 Cora working on a book with the diaries from “Charlotte”. She’s trying to prove her great-grandfather Chamberlain wasn’t a killer

🚓 Ainsley is in town to investigate the murder of a pregnant girl (Hannah Dyson)

🚓 Ainsley being stalked by someone (is it related to Hannah’s murder or not)

📖 Someone trying to steal the diaries to sell for money

🗳️ Ainsley’s father’s political campaign (John Ross “J.R.” Beaumont) and his interest in the diaries

💘 Sarah’s “infatuation” with Lincoln

It opens with someone lurking, waiting for Cora to head to bed. And, in of all things – a tornado watch. Given the area – that isn’t too hard to imagine. And, for those who don’t know the difference between warning and watch:

🌪️ Tornado Watch (possible, notice posted well in advance by hours; be ready to act)

🌪️ Tornado Warning (has been spotted or seen on radar, issued within minutes; indicate immediate danger to life and property; action required)

As with everything in life (and fiction, especially suspense) – things escalate quickly.

Cora is attacked just as the tornado arrives. Talk about an attention-grabbing beginning! Bradley isn’t done with surprises, even though this is the literally the beginning of the book. In walks a man that Ainsley hasn’t seen in a long time – former FBI agent Lincoln Steele, the man who sided with her father when it came to her singing career.

It is apparent that Cora’s injury is serious and that will be a long running plot point as Ainsley tries to uncover what happened before Cora’s “accident”. Ainsley learns Lincoln is helping her great-aunt with the book. He learns that Ainsley is in town to investigate the death of Hannah Dyson.

Things are not what they appear to be. Nothing is in a suspense novel.

Ainsley has a feeling her aunt’s “accident” isn’t an accident – she has a feeling someone was there. And, she is right, but proving it is another deal. All she knows is the diaries that Cora has mentioned are missing. And, Ainsley isn’t above suspecting her father.

Despite not wanting to be around a gun, Lincoln is asked to help with the investigation.

As I said, this has multiple story arcs. And, Bradley does a fantastic job keeping them woven together but separate.

Lincoln is also dealing with pesky reporter Sarah. She is Blake’s sister. Blake was someone who Lincoln worked with and got injured as a result of Lincoln’s hesitancy. But, Blake also died later on. There is another problem with Sarah – she is definitely smitten with Lincoln (this was a 🚩 RED FLAG 🚩 to me from the beginning). She also wants an interview with Ainsley.

Ainsley is also reminded about her “finances”, something she seems to think is a motive later on.

Ainsley and Lincoln head out to the trace, particularly the crime scene. We learn why she was called in – hint/spoiler – Brooke and Luke. If you’ve read the first book, you might know what I mean 💍💒

And, the “drama” doesn’t stop there – someone is trying to kill Ainsley. This won’t be a shock to the readers. At least, one of the people won’t be.

The evidence keeps point to a few young men that Hannah went to school with. And, as Ainsley keeps investigating that crime, she’s also trying to figure out what happened to her great-aunt Cora.

Ainsley also learns there is interest from both political sides (her father and Austin Kingston). Ainsley is also trying to reconcile her feelings about Lincoln siding with her father when it came to a promising and yet failed music career.

When J.R learns about the diaries he is interested. A little too interested for my tastes, and Ainsley’s as well. Even an attempt on Ainsley’s life at a party isn’t enough to stop J.R. from asking. Are we sure this isn’t J.R Ewing (Dallas 1978-1991; 2012-2014)? Ainsley begins to question her father’s motives, especially because of the diaries and her finances. She’s seen the worst of people – greed and evil.

Ainsley also learns of a man from Tennessee who swore revenge against her has escaped. Though her boss isn’t sure this is the man who is after her.

By chapter 53, it looks like the story could be near the end – one of the suspects is killed. He won’t be the only one.

Ainsley begins to solve the murder her grandmother was investigating (the one in the diaries). That was definitely a good mystery and honesty, I wouldn’t mind reading that as perhaps a historical fiction book.

Can you see what I mean about the story arcs? Do the missing diaries tie in with the murder? Are they separate? This was definitely an addictive read. I was not only engrossed in reading, but trying to keep it all straight.

Bradley doesn’t tire of taking her characters and readers through another round of peril. And, she expertly surprises us with about 3% of the story left.

I loved the suspense aspect and how everything kept changing. That shocking twist at nearly 97% was a bit close, but certainly an “I should’ve seen that coming” moment. One thing that wasn’t so enjoyable – immediately knowing one of the bad guys. But, it didn’t hinder this from being the 5-star read it is.

There was a plot point that didn’t get wrapped up, so I hope it is mentioned in the next book. It has to do with Ainsley’s finances. I also hope to see a “conclusion” about Sam and Emma as well since Sam was so prominently featured in this book.

Overall – this is high up on my list to EVENTUALLY re-read. Those who read the first two books won’t want to miss this installment. Fans of Lynette Eason and Elizabeth Goddard won’t want to miss this either. And, yes, I am fans of both authors.

Being distributed by Revell, a Christian/faith-themed publisher, this is going to have references to God, prayers, and bible passages mentioned. Faith is important to Linc and will play somewhat of a role in the story.

Crosshairs by Patricia Bradley is the third book in the Natchez Trace Park Rangers series. Each can be read separately. Ainsley works as an Investigative Services Branch ranger.

She has been asked to come in and work a murder of a teenager who was three months pregnant. In the process someone is trying to kill her. Is it related? Then add in her family issues with her dad and you dont know what will happen next. Why does he want the diaries. I loved the addition of her grandmother and her great aunt.

Lincoln was back at the Trace after leaving the FBI after almost killing a child. This storyline gave you an interesting perspective into what snipers have to deal with. Lincoln is now an interpretive ranger that gives tours of the facility. He and Ainsley have a past which they work through as they try to find out what is going on.

The story has a lot of action and characters to keep you guessing.

Violence - several people end up in the hospital and not all of them make it out.
Drug - some of the teens are doing drugs which plays into the story line.

Patricia Bradley has another home run with this intriguing, captivating story! Until the last page was turned, I couldn’t put it down.

At age 92, Cora Chamberlain is writing a book about the murder of Zachary Elliott. In her search to clear her great-grandfather’s name of murder, she has researched old family journals that detail what happened to Zachary Elliott.

Someone else, however, wants the journals to sell for a hefty price-tag. On a stormy night he waits outside Miss Cora’s house, waiting for the lights to go out. He then will enter the house through the basement and up through a secret passageway that will take him right into her library. What a shock for both when Miss Cora, hearing a noise goes down to the library.

Ainsley Beaumont is back in town, staying with her grandmother, Rose, who is Cora’s sister, and lives across the street from Cora. Ainsley, an Investigative Services Branch ranger, and Cora’s niece has been called to head up the investigation of the murder of a teenage girl in the local state park. Ainsley is back in town, staying with her grandmother, Rose, who is Cora’s sister, and lives across the street from Cora. While investigating the murder in the park, Ainsley also gets involved in the quest for the missing journals.

This is a compelling, intriguing story with surprises, romance, healing of relationships, as well as shocking revelations. Until the last page is turned, it is nearly impossible to put down.

** “Honey, never compare God to your dad. His has frailties and weaknesses. I should know — I raised him. God will always be there for you, and he’ll never give up on you.” **

Patricia Bradley delivers another action-packed suspense thriller filled with twists and turns in “Crosshairs.”

When a National Parks case brings together former couple Ainsley Beaumont and Lincoln Steele, they must work past issues to solve several interconnected cases — including shootings, murders and missing family heirlooms. But can they both overcome past failures, both personally and professionally, to stop the nefarious activity going on?

Filled with plot twists and misdirections, “Crosshairs” keeps the reader guessing until the very end. Bradley does an incredible job of developing characters one can’t help but root for, all while revealing their very relatable flaws.

She also fills the book with several great themes, like what happens when revenge takes over; forgive as the Lord forgave; God is with us wherever we go (“fear not, for I am with you”); and regaining trust when it is lost.

Fans of authors like Irene Hannon, Lynette Eason and Elizabeth Goddard will love this book.

Even though “Crosshairs” is part of a series, it could be read as a standalone. However, I highly recommend reading the series’ first two installments: “Standoff” and “Obsession.”

Five stars out of five.
