A brand-new fairytale retelling fantasy series from award-winning author Alexia Purdy for those who love magic, gothic fantasy, steampunk, and urban fantasy.
Against my family’s wishes, I’ve refused every suitor lined up for my hand at the annual coupling ball. How could I have known the government would be overthrown during the ball? Luckily, I’m rescued by a handsome stranger named Clyde. Running from the enemy, we escape to the underground city known as the Glass Sky.
My life is far from what I thought as I discover I’m just a pawn in a delusional society. Secrets and lies show me the hard truth of a dying human race where females are scarce and controlled with an iron fist. I have to find my parents but sneaking back home is a precarious trek. All I find is the city overrun and deep under the control of a ruthless ruler. Obsessive vendettas seal my fate, haunting me with my own defiance. Alone and defeated, an unlikely ally offers to help me, but at what cost?
Alexia currently lives in Las Vegas, Nevada–Sin City! She loves to spend every free moment writing or playing with her four rambunctious kids. Well, this is different than I read before from this author, but it’s just as good as the others. And what’s more it has something else I like, a feisty female. This could be what I hope is the start of a long series. Couldn’t put it down. Highly recommended.
Really enjoyed this book. This author really knows how to create a world that you can really find yourself getting lost in and a cast of characters that you can relate to. I look forward to reading more of this series.
Star doesn't want to get married she wants to be a engineer/mechanic like her dad, and she feels no husband would ever let her do that, she thinks she would have to be arm candy and a baby factory to any of her parents choices, but there is a lot of the world Star knows nothing about. She is about to get a crash course.
This was a great story with lots of twists and turns and full bore action until the end. The audio is narrated by a wonderful voice actor Kim Churchill who will have you thinking you are there with Star and her hero Clyde, pointing them in the right direction and letting Star know when she is doing dumb things, not that she will listen to you. I really can't wait for the next book, and I hope you won't be able to as well.
I received an advanced reader copy from the author for my honest review!
LOVED IT!!!
An awesome.. edge of your seat, turn the pages faster.. story!!!! I couldn't put it down I finished it in one sitting!!! I love the unique-ness of the story it was completely different from what the author usually writes! The characters are very cool with a side of feisty and strong! I look forward to seeing where the story takes us next.. hopefully this will be an ongoing series! Its an exciting and fun read! I recommend you read it with friends so you can share and discuss! Awesome job to the author!!!
I am happily surprised with this story. I had no idea where it would take me, and I'm still guessing! =D I'm thankful book 2 is available because I need to see where Star's tale goes. If you like a little mystery with some cloak and dagger, this is definitely your book. I highly recommend you give it a try.
Another great read from Alexia! I could hardly put it down. The start of a series with a strong stubborn female lead. I only wish I had waited to start it until all the books were out so I didn't have to wait for more...
Book 1 had a lot of errors throughout. The characters and plot were interesting and a bit different than other books. The plot was predictable and was not as exciting as it started off as. The characters are single minded and naive. Half of the book is the MC worrying about her parents and the other half is explanations of overthrowing the new president. This book had such potential, but with the main character being repetitive and the book lacking depth it was disappointing.
