Captain Justin Spencer has one goal: to execute battle missions with excellence and bring everyone in his galactic fighter squadron safely home. Yet for too long, the Coalition Defense Force has been engaged in a defensive fight with the League of Sol on the Terran Coalition’s home turf.
No longer.
The CSV Zvika Greengold is once again called upon for a highly clandestine assignment – take the war deep into enemy territory and attack the very heart of the League. It’s been generations since anyone has seen Earth after the communist League chased humanity’s ancestors from their former home, and Justin is eager to lead the squadron of stealth recon fighters for some payback.
Regardless of the danger that awaits them.
Facing the likelihood of no return, thoughts turn to matters of the heart – and soul. Family reunions are all-too brief. The months-long trip toward Earth gives Justin time to contemplate what waits for them in the great beyond. But when the carrier becomes a floundering fortress, it falls to Justin and the brave men and women of the CSV Zvika Greengold to fight their way to freedom as their ancestors once did – by any means necessary.
Or spend the rest of their lives in the hands of a merciless enemy.
Cold War in space. Gives the exact same repeated wording for an event that has been going back 3 books. Repeats the exact same words to repeat every battle. Gets boring quick and a thesaurus would be an amazing investment for the author. Also religion thrown in like crazy to the point it’s damn near a left behind novel. Only continued with the series because of a bad case of insomnia and a test of will.
Sol Strike book 3 in the Battlegroup Z series. Daniel Gibbs has written another fantastic military SiFi. Although I enjoy reading a series in order, Daniel Gibbs lays a good foundation at the beginning of this book and you will be up on the story. The Battlegroup Z series builds the story like steppingstones. Book 1 us the beginning of the war between the League of Sol who attacked the Terran Coalition. In book 2 the CSV Zvika Greengold is successful in their Mission against the League. Sol Strike finds the CSV Zvika Greengold going to attack the heart of the enemy, Earth! Captain Justin Spencer leads his flying team using stealth ships to Earth and finally taking the offense to the League. I truly enjoy how Daniel Gibbs uses his military background to describe the fighting in the Greengold, the Marine fighting as well as how a pilot handles their planes in fighting. Daniel paints an incredible picture with words. His writing is outstanding! I am really looking forward to reading book 4. I received an arc for free, and am leaving my review voluntarily.
It's time to take the fight to the League of Sol. This time we get to see the action from a proactive stance instead of a reactive stance. Where Hostile Spike allowed the characters to grow and elevated the personal stakes of the narrative, Sol Strike allows the opponent and the battlefield the same space to breathe and loom threateningly large. The cost of the war begins to really hammer our heroes hard, and they're feeling it in different ways. The cost to families and in broken relationships is driven home without shying away from the spiritual damage our heroes are suffering by standing in the gap for their friends and loved ones. Gibbs never cuts back on the pace of the action, but a story that began as a series of action scenes between character cut-outs has begun to evolve into a fully realized picture of the impact of war.
Another wonderful story from Daniel Gibbs. In this episode (Sol Strike) we get to watch a small battle group, if it could be called that, prepare and execute a battle plan most consider a one way mission. The constant training builds explosive tensions about the battle, then coping with the results nearly tear some apart. If you've never been in a situation where you're scared out of your wits, you probably won't appreciate some of the dialog. However, being a veteran that was assigned a position were life expectancy was 7.2 seconds, I can attest to the out right fear. Orders are orders though and you adapt or wash out. The dialog here is essential in trying to bring you the true feelings of "God-Family-Duty-Country during war and peace. Enjoy the ride Daniel provides.
This book is very easy to get lost in, my I my gripe is that what could be an extremely good book is ruined by having religious mumbo popping up every few minutes which has for me totally ruined what could have been a really exciting series of books, write science fiction books or write religious books but don't try and combine them..... It doesn't work. I will be deleting the final book unread as there's only so much crap I can stand... Onto a region free sci-fi author from now on 😙👎👎👎👎👎👎
Daniel Gibbs has given us another fantastic book. Sol Strike is the third book in the Battlegroup Z series. The Battlegroup Z series builds the story like steppingstones. Sol Strike finds the CSV Zvika Greengold going to attack the heart of the enemy, Earth! Captain Justin Spencer leads his flying team using stealth ships to Earth and finally taking the offense to the League. I am really looking forward to reading book 4. I received an arc for free, and am leaving my review voluntarily.
As the Greengold strikes deep into the League of Sol, nearing their home world, Earth, their losses finally weigh on many. Memories of their losses, continued combat, and the pressure of surviving another day weigh on all, bringing them each to face the conflict within. How they answer will save or condemn them, according to their own choices. Great series that I recommend to all sci fi lovers!
Its hard to keep hearing the word brittle and the color's in the worm hole. Grrr.
But the authors most grievous act is thinking we need a Heavy does of religion and psycho babble to disguise the sermon. Also the was very much offended when he cast a Marine combat commander openly desiring to murder a civilian crew. I have prime so I'll try the next book cause its free , and ill throw the author a few bucks.
I won't give the storyline or provide spoilers. Daniel Gibbs provides another fast-paced book that would be ripe for a TV series with the intensity of the book's plot ratcheting up with each step towards the final climatic battle. The primary characters are well developed, the dialog believable, and a story that allows the reader to suspend disbelief. The book is well-edited and the read is fast paced and filled with action .
I am currently on book 6 of this series and have enjoyed them greatly. There is one obvious problem though, every time the ship goes to battle stations, they reach condition one immediately after the call. As a Navy veteran, who was stationed on a ship, this doesn't happen. It takes at least 4 minutes after the call to general quarters for everyone to get in place. Other than that, the books are good and well worth reading.
Loved this latest addition to the series and I look forward to the next one 😀 Great characters with realistic situations and lots of action and adventure, with a bit of Faith here and there. Two ideologies clash in the majesty of space. Freedom, Faith and Democracy or communism and state. On to the next book.
Outstandingly well written storyline and the depth of the characters growing the story of a shop and crew comes to life and the cost of warfare takes its toll mentally and physically. As close to our real world as it gets in till we do reach for the stars fully as a species one day
As all Daniel Gibbs books have been, this book was exciting and full of realistic interactions among characters of various faiths, origins, and skill levels. I can't recommend Daniel Gibbs' books more highly. He is an excellent author whose space fantasies are un-putdownable.
Questions, always questions, but the brave face is put forward. The greater good, everyone thinks that’s what they’re fighting for. Interesting that the plot thickened after the Marine meets the Leaguer that is a Christian. I did not see that coming. All the religious references are interesting, a real life saga. Thanks for another entertaining read.
This book was a good read and it was full of action mostly space battles that they barely made it . They destroyed a lot of the enemy's full supply and a few important ships . The book was non-stop action from start to finish but now the other side has plans for an attack also. Have to read on to see what happens.
Sol Strike continues the non- stop sction of the first two books, but begins to develope the characters. It brings into focus the emotional and psychological effects of combat. A worthy read. I pre-ordered book 4!
Too much religion is something I don't like as is politics. If I knew that there was so much in book 3 I wouldn't have purchased the series! As it is I have stopped following Daniel Gibbs!
Captain Spencer and his crack squadron of Red Tails continue to do their best, even as the war goes grimly onwards. They undertake a huge gamble in hopes of getting at least one victory. But will it be worth the cost?
Another great book. Love his books as they keep me from doing my honey do list. Once I pick it up I tend to keep reading, or let the tablet read to me.
