The last thing Scarlett expected to find was an injured bird; little did she know this was no ordinary crow. She never thought her life was going to be entwined with that of a bird; certainly not that of five birds. When Scarlett’s world turns on its head, and strange occurrences begin, she realises these birds are anything but what she thinks. Thrown into crazyville, a world she didn’t know existed, Scarlett must work out who means her harm, who she can trust and who will save her. But, with a corrupt government, shifters she didn’t know existed, and secrets about herself that have been kept hidden in plain sight her entire life, will anyone really save her? Because Scarlett has always saved herself, so why should five alphaholes suddenly hinder her life now? Things for Scarlett are truly not as they seem…
Dnf@84%. This was tough to get through. Within the first few pages I already knew I wouldn't like it much, and as I continued to read on that was exactly the case. The way the author went out her way to say or talk about the most unimportant stuff? There is a part where she hears squawking outside then for some reason starts talking about how big her bed is, how it's soft and feels like she sleeps on a cloud. Then starts mentioning her ugly green carpet upstairs the last owners must have put in? It was so right out of left field I wasn't sure I even wanted to continue, but I decided to still try. Another thing I didn't like was how the author kept trying to sell a characters personality. Instead of the character acting a certain way and us reading it naturally, we get the characters herself explaining how social awkward she is, how she's a ambivert. She mentions this twice, then goes into detail what that means. She also talks about her ocd ways which are so out of the blue and again not natural. The author was definitely going for a certain kind of character and she went way out the way of making us know this. As i read on it same weird character building about how she has a Amazon shopping habit and can't talk to men because she gets word vomit. Nothing original here. As I read on the story I just got bored, and honestly this book has nothing really going on for about 75%. About 84% I just was tired of reading this book.
I really enjoyed reading this book. From the first page when we see Scarlett waking and finding an injured crow in her garden. Who tells her his name is Noah. We get to see Scarlett get closer to the Crow after she takes it to get its broken wing fixed. We also get to read from the pov of Oliver who is the Alpha of a team of crows searching for a missing member. As they search for him, the story also continues with Scarlett. We meet her friend Max and also we see her meet a handsome guy called Noah at lunch. At this point everything kicks into gear and with all the little twists and all the revealed news. We see Scarlett, Noah, Oliver, Cole, Lucas and Logan, head out to find the information they need to then end hanging onto a cliff edge, with that unexpected ending wow
I love stories like this! The breadcrumbs the author leaves as you read the story are very clever and the ending happens just as you get to some juicy secrets, love it!
Hidden in plain sight is a slow burn RH book but i liked that about it. That gave us a chance to actually get to know Scarlett (FMC) more i think as well as the other characters. Scarlett has her own anxieties and issues especially around men which i found endearing but i also loved her quirky personality. Finding an injured crow in her garden sets her on a path of discovery including meeting Noah which is an eye opener for her. As well as helping her found out more about herself. Im still trying to process everything that happened in this book and that cliffhanger ending was just killer! Its one hell of a read. Dying for book 2 now
Woohoo, yes, a pnr book with Blackpool in it. I think I count that as a win! When Scarlett wakes up one morning to find an injured crow in her garden, she really doesn't expect her life to take such an unexpected twist. It's definitely a slow burn romance, and you will be waiting a little while for some actual action but it's worth it in the end.
It's a great read from start to finish, with one hell of a cliffhanger which I didn't fully see coming. Can't wait for book two.
This is the first shifter book I’ve read that wasn’t about wolves, dragons, lions or other crazy big animals. Instead we get birds and honestly I loved it. I like that it’s a simple animal that can shift in plain sight (see what I did there?).
In this book we meet Scarlett, a 27 year old ambivert. She lives alone and has a small group of friends, though we only meet one in this book. Scarlett wakes up to the sound of a bird in her backyard. Going to check on it she finds a crow with a broken wing. Immediately she goes into guardian mood and helps the bird by taking it to the vet and then to the pet store to buy all the necessaries it may need while she cares for it. We also get the POV of Oliver and his team, a group of bird shifters. They’ve been missing a team member and after months of thinking the worst they get a lead. The guys embark on a mission to find him and figure out why he disappeared.
This book was different from other shifter books. Scarlett isn't tough or fierce. She also isn’t naive or a virgin. It seems most books are one or the other these days. No, she is a normal woman working trying to make a living. She is awkward, has an Amazon shopping addiction, and is dealing with a slimy boss. The story gets really interested at the end with Scarlett finding out who she really is and we also get one steamy scene. This book is definitely a slow burn but I am still hoping for more in the next book. It ends on a cliffhanger that has me craving the next book. Can’t wait to see what else we learn about Scarlett and why she is so important.
First things first, if you don't like books ending on a cliffhanger, then maybe hold off on reading this until the next book is out, because it definitely ends on a huge one! Moving on...I thoroughly enjoyed the idea of the bird shifters, it was a fresh take and very fun, I love shifter books, but sometimes it's nice that they aren't just wolves, dragons, or other more basic predatory creatures. I enjoyed the characters and plot, it was a little confusing in some places- just felt a little off, I know the book has mystery, but it sometimes felt like things weren't being explained as well as they could have been when the characters were finally filling in the blanks, almost like the author knew what was going on, but wasn't able to quite get it on the page in the same way, so as a reader in the dark, it doesn't come through the same way. The pacing also felt a little weird in some places, but I suppose that is just my personal feelings, and others may enjoy that! My last thought is that there were definitely some grammar issues, small typos or syntax issues, but overall, it was a pleasant reader with a fresh take on a story.
This book has so much mystery it's insane, I can't wait until the next book where hopefully the plot starts to unravel and push forward some.
I love that this isn't about the usual shifters and is an interesting take on shifters themselves and the world of shifters in general.
I love the interactions between the FMC and Noah and her bestie Max, they are quite funny. I also loved the interactions between the guys on the team, they really do act like a family.
The only kinda downside is that I don't think I got to know the characters (other than the FMC) particularly well, but I'm sure that will come in book 2 of this slow-burn RH.
Cannot wait to see where this leads 100% reading the second book so I can read more about this amazing, unique shifter world.
I really enjoyed this book, it's a slow burn paranormal RH, well I think it's going to be!
The story overall is great and I think the arc running through the books is going to add some mystery and intrigue, hopefully some action too. There was a nice bit of humour here coming for our main girl Scarlett.
The only thing stopping this going from great to amazing for me was I felt I didn't get to know the characters very well. I'm sure we will get to know them a bit better in book 2, but at the moment I'm not as emotionally invested in them or their relationships as I should be. Unfortunately this meant that when scenes that should gut punch you happened I didn't feel the impact I could have. I understand it's hard getting the balance right in a series of books, the pacing here was brilliant though at keeping you engaged.
I'm hoping we get POVs from all the guys in book 2 and find out more about them, get their individual personalities showing through more in how they interact with each other and how things develop with our leading lady.
I'm definitely going to read book 2, I want to know what happens next!
I love a good shifter read and this is a great one with a twist. No wolves or dragons, no lions or bears, no this time we have birds! Who would have thought?? It’s well written and immediately you are drawn into the story where we meet our female mc who at first sight seems completely normal if not a little awkward and shy. But all is not what it seems! I really enjoyed this and the world that the author has created, the characters are relatable and believable and I look forward to seeing where this slow burn romance goes. Great storyline, great characters, cannot wait to read the next book!
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
What an intriguing start to a new series. We meet Scarlett who discovers and injured crow in her yard that she nurses back to health. At the same time we meet Oliver the leader of a group of crows who just happens to be missing a member that they are searching for. Things get interesting when the meet one another though there are still lots of questions that need answers. Add in some surprise twists, some funny scenes, and a hint of tension to get a fun read that fans of the genre will enjoy. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
I love this author, her beautiful mind has no limits, and she always comes up with the best plots and chooses unusual shifters to write about. Who would’ve thought crows could be sexy and fun? Not me, but she did it, her crazy brain is just amazing. And she loves to leave us hanging with these damn cliffhangers. When things are getting juicy, BAM, cliffhanger. It’s so frustrating, but it’s also one of things that makes me read this author’s books. The wait just makes things more exciting. Scarlett is hilarious, with her verbal diarrhea and her awkward self. But she has the biggest heart. She’s also strong, with the bomb she was thrown by Noah you would think she would be running for the hills, but not her, she took it like a champ. She’s just awesome. The guys, well we still don’t know much about them, but Cole is on my shit list. I can’t wait to know them better and see where this shit storm is taking them ❤️
Alright, so for most of this book, it’s pretty slow going. But it makes up for it, I promise. The writing is a bit too descriptive for me, putting a lot of detail and attention into day to day routine, and action. But, it could also be written like that because the FMC has OCD, and some mental health issues, and that’s how her brain works. Which, relatable, thank you. But it also got really immersive and suspenseful and then suddenly the book was over and I was internally crying a little. I may or may not have done an internal panic scream that there was no more, and it ended on an epic cliffhanger. But, overall the writing was well-done, and the characters well written. I need more info on what’s going on with max! And Scarletts past. I just need more. *puppy eyes*
You know... I'm very picky about shifter novels. I really tend to stay away from them as of late with very few exceptions. This was a delightful accident and I am very pleased that I got my hands on it. I really enjoyed this story and the characters. The action, the wittiness, the snark, everything. I really got consumed into the world and felt a bit " off" once I finished ( and I finished quickly cause it was so good).
I really enjoyed this book, it’s starts of great. Love Scarlett, her quirks and hilarious inner monologue. Noah is an interesting character, and Scarlett’s friend Max Then there’s Oliver and his crew. This book is really well written with a great storyline and such detail you just fall into the book. The suspense and twists had me not putting this book down until the very last word. Cliff hanger - wow! Can’t wait until book 2 is released, definitely getting it ASAP once released.
I really enjoyed this book. I love reading about unique shifters. I love Scarlett, she is an awesome FMC, and the guys are pretty awesome too! The storyline has mystery, intrigue, suspense, and sexiness that keeps you very much interested and reading through to the very end. I cannot wait for book 2!
This is the first Kat Blak book i have read and i absolutely loved it, there is mystery and intrigue along with some heat and awkward moments , yes you do guess some of the plot but there are other bits that blindside you and take you by complete surprise. Definately cant wait for book 2 to arrive.
Kat blak you have wrote another amazing story I absolutely loved it Scarlett character is caring , hard working and a bit shy and she just wants to fit in and have friends. Scarletts hole world is about to change when she meets four shifter males that happen to be hot crow shifters. They are about to change her whole life with what Noah is about to tell about her past.
The story pulls you in right from the start and you want to keep reading to find out what happens next it’s has action, betrayal and emotions of loss from scarlet about her parents.
OMG the cliffhanger at the end didn’t see that coming and am really excited for the second book to find out what is going to happen next
This was a great start to a series. I knew going in this was about shifters. We meet Scarlett and she seems to be a normal human woman. She has friends and works. A crow finds its way into her garden and is hurt. She takes it to the vet and gets it all healed up. She meets a man named Noah same as the bird, a bit strange if I do say so myself. She starts to like both Noah's. Her friend Max is not having it. I don't want to say more because it will give away too much.
LOVED IT! Scarlett is a sweet super introvert that would rather take care of animal than deal with most people (can totally relate). She takes in an injured raven which lead her down a rabbit hole of complete chaos that turns her life upside down. Ends in a dreaded cliffhanger and I am really looking forward to see what happens in book two.
OMG, this book was so amazing that I finished it in one sitting. It moves along at a pace which makes for an easy and enjoyable read. It has interesting characters that no matter what you fall in love with and want to see succeed. This book is a must read and no matter what needs to be on your TBR list.
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I rather enjoyed it. What happens when you don't know that you are different and then your whole world turns upside down? That is what happens to Scarlett. Finding what she thinks is an ordinary crow in her backyard leads to interesting situations for all. The cliffhanger is not nice and I cannot wait to see what happens next.
This is a very different book with the shifter being a bird and not one of your big animals, having said that it's well written and thought out, with wonderful characters and a good storyline, and not forgetting the cliffhanger so really need to read book two now, a must read.
Very interesting slow burn shifter romance! This book is full of intrigue from the start with a hurt crow to a mystery crime to discovering origins! It's a wild ride with more to come. (warning - cliffhanger)
Wow this was such a different kind of shifter book. I do enjoy the original shifter type books with wolves, dragon etc but this one really surprised me because it is not your usual shifters. Would definitely recommend.
This book was very entertaining and enjoyable. The characters were awesome and it is my first bird shifter story. I loved it and highly recommend. This authors stories never disappoint. Can’t wait to read her next book.
Oh that cliffhanger. Almost wanted to throw my kindle. This is a great story. Love Scarlett and the guys. Love the storyline. Yes was definitely little surprised at the end. I won’t give away any spoilers so you have to read it. Read this book literally in a couple of hours. Couldn’t put it down. Definitely read this one. I’ve read most of Kat Blak stories and this is one of favorites so far.
Dang! Cliffhanger! This book sucks you in quick! Scarlett seems like the typical woman that finds an injured animal in her garden. Only that's the start of it all. Shifters, cover-ups, secrets and betrayal. I had a feeling and I was right at the end! Sooo ready for book 2!
Omg wow! I loved it so much! When Scarlett finds a crow injured on her back lawn she has no idea her whole life is about to be upended. Everything she knows about the world and herself is about to be turned on it's head and boy is it a fun ride!
