The Beach Alibi

Rate this book
Kelly John Beach is a go-to guy known for covering all the bases and moving in the shadows like a ghost. But now, the ultimate spy is in big trouble: during his last mission, he was caught breaking into a Spectra IT high-rise on one of their video surveillance cameras. The SG-5 team has to make an alternate tape fast, one that proves K.J. was elsewhere at the time of the break-in. The plan is simple: someone from Smithson will pose as K.J.'s lover, and SG-5's strategically placed cameras will record their every intimate dinner, sensual adventure, and deliciously erotic make-out session in elevators, restaurant hallways, and other daring forums. But Kelly John never expects that "alibi" to come in the form of Emma Webster, the sexy co-worker who has starred in so many of his not-for-primetime fantasies. Getting his hands-and anything else he can-on Emma under the guise of work is a dream come true. Deceiving the good-hearted, trusting woman isn't. And when Spectra realizes that the way to K.J. is through Emma, the spy is ready to come in from the cold, and show her how far he'll go to protect the woman he loves...

I often read of or hear about authors who knew they were meant to tell stories from the time they left the crib. Me? I didn't decide what I wanted to be when I grew up until I was thirty years old - and then sold my first book at thirty-four. Still, it was obvious that I always knew I was going places.

Like so many other authors, I was a voracious reader from day one, devouring everything from Nancy Drew to My Friend Flicka, which I remember sitting hovered over the heater vent in the kitchen floor to read while my father made his coffee.

I moved on to my mother's Phyllis Whitney, Dorothy Eden, and Mary Stewart gothics before discovering my first true romances written by Lucy Walker and set in the Australian Outback. And then, at last, when I was 18 I found 'The Flame and the Flower'. (My son almost spent his life as Brandon because of that, but I spared him and named him Casey instead!)

Why write romance? Because love stories have always been a major part of the books I've loved. Father Ralph and Meggie Cleary. (I did name my daughter Megan after reading The Thorn Birds! Do you see a trend here?) The aforementioned Brandon Birmingham and Heather Simmons. Wolf Mackenzie and Mary Potter.

Even more so, it's because I love writing romance heroes. The men who sweep both heroines and readers off their feet - not to mention their authors, too!

I've spent several years happily writing action adventure romance for Kensington Brava along with hot and sexy series romances for Harlequin Blaze. Now I'm thrilled to be a launch author for Vows.

This story was a little more unbelievable for me, but it was still fun. Emma is a force to be reckoned with. She doesn't take the BS the Smithson men try to dish out. I really appreciate that from her. Kelly John is to busy trying to get into Emma's panties to realize there are problems on the horizon. As the series goes people from Spectra IT are being picked off, and I not sure where this series is going. I like romance side of this story, but I don't think I can recommend it.

This adventure is the perfect combination of undercover espionage, without blood and guts, and sexy romance with the emphasis on sexual attraction and intimacy. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that this author's work stands the test of time even though it was written over 10 years ago it's just as relevant as one written today. I loved Kelly John and Emma's story.

Very good

I really enjoy the characters in this series and their strength. I like the writing and the story. The only things I didn't like is the graphic sex and that the end was wrapped up a bit too quickly. But mostly I really enjoyed the book and HEA.

Another wild ride in an amazing series

Alison Kent rocks it again with another wild ride in this series. I love how each book capsule stand on its own, but has a small little bit of information that ties each to the others. Full of emotion and adventure.

This is absolute TRASH. And not in a good way. The vast majority of the book was just either detailed thoughts of lust, or detailed scenes of sex. The spy story was stupid and barely even played into things. And it includes such amazing phrases as "lazy sex slug".

This book started out totally believable... the scenario in which Kelly (and Hank) has to ask Emma for help is possible, and Emma was well drawn out as a lady who would be up for it. But the action was wrapped up so quickly and easily (maybe to lead to other developments in later books?) and it's hard for me to believe a jaded soul like Kelly John could fall in love & admit to it after only 12 hours with her. I did like their romance - very sexy.

i like the storyline behind this series of books a lot. but this one fell short. if you have all this security and all this technology, when someone hits "emergency stop" in the elevator, it should set off all kinds of alarms, not to mention cameras. and their building is SO very easy to get out of undectected? sorry, not buying that. no romantic sex at all, just "down and dirty and quick". here's the ending to the story: "I love you". THE END. giving it a 3 was being generous!

With a bit more back story on these characters, Kent may have been on to something beautiful. Instead we just get 128 pages that feel like they start the story somewhere in the middle.

Oh well it's what I'm in the mood for so it is working for me. But if you are looking for short (on develoement) & sweet then this is not the series for you.

As with all the books in this series, this is super sexy, crazy fun, but way to short and way too rushed. I love these characters and absolutely see them together, but not after 12 hours with none of that time spent outside of crisis. I wish Kent had written this whole story because it would have been stellar.
