Đứa con của thời tiết - Bản đặc biệt

Rate this book

Let's start off by saying that I am an absolute fan of Makoto Shinkai, yet I delayed reading/watching TENKI NO KO because many people claimed it to be better than KIMI NO NA WA and I want nothing to be better than it.

News flash - I WAS RIGHT. ✨

Though both these stories are very similar, but Kimi no na wa is still better and beautiful than tenki no ko.

Well it's not a topic of debate here.

The plot about star crossed lovers is exceptional as one can expect from Shinkai. It's grounded yet magical and has both a fantasy and realistic feel. Perfectly paced story which kept the readers on edge as they wanted to know the fate of our Sunshine girl Hina and our very own runaway boy Hodako. Their chemistry was perfect and cute.

All the characters are fresh and real. Even the side characters were equally enjoyable as the main characters. The interaction between MCs was refreshing and cute. I actually cared about them. Seeing Keisuke make the necessary clutch decision really made me smile. They all bring important aspects which add to the story, while letting the main two characters shine.

I am an emotionally monotone person so saying that I was emotionally invested in the book is something great. Though I didn't cey buckets like I did while watching KIMI NO NA WA ( that shit is something else), but I enjoyed it.

It's not like Your name so don't go in thinking you will get exact feels it isdifferent with it's own merits and demerits.

The first book I read this year.

Novel-wise, I personally think this is one of Shinkai’s best works. There’s something so warm and heartfelt about it, and I feel connected to the characters more intimately compared to Your Name.

Plot-wise it’s bittersweet as always. I haven’t seen the movie (missed the Japanese version when it came out in theatres) but would love a chance to catch the American version if it ever gets released somewhere. But then again, I know I’d love it as much as I love all of Shinkai’s movies. I also appreciate how the foreword tells me so much about the background of Weathering With You, and how the ending came together.

Though the story is interesting and the anime movie beautiful, the book is not as good.

The narration is messy, jumping from one scene to another and confusing the reader. It was like reading the script without the in the middle part. Which is unfortunate, as the story is solid.

The truth is I tried quite a few times to pick this up and continue it, but the narration stopped me every time.

So, I'm dropping it. But the movie is still superb.

Makoto Shinkai

Akhirnya selesai dibaca!

Sayang aja jadi nggak terasa tuntas pas selesai dibaca. Rasanya pilihan penulis slash sutradara dalam memakai PoV 1 tuh kurang tepat. Iya, iya. Ini pendapatku aja kok. Soalnya Hina-chan nggak tereksplorasi banget perasaannya...

Terus, aku nggak tahu kenapa sama baca terjemahannya. Bukan, bukannya nggak bagus. Tentu terjemahannya bagus, tapi pemilihan katanya kurang enak. Dan itu cukup banyak. Biasanya aku anteng-anteng aja kalo terjemahan bahasa Jepang Penerbit Haru ini. Eh, kenapa si kucing gendat ini disebut "Ame" doang siiiih... kan kalo di filmnya pake "chan"! Ame-chan~

I was fortunate to get to see Weathering With You in the theater earlier this year, and I loved it. When I saw that Makoto Shinkai had written the novelization of the film (just as he did earlier for your name.), I checked it out from the library and read it all within one day. It's a fun way to revisit the story. What you miss in this version is, of course, the stunning visuals and musical score. But what you gain is a little more time with the characters, learning what they're thinking. Shinkai has an interesting way of shifting perspectives so that you're not quite certain whose thoughts you're hearing until some detail makes it clear. This technique lets us get into the minds of Suga and Natsumi much more in the novel than in the film.

What comes through in all of Shinkai's storytelling, whatever the medium, is that he is a deeply joyful, caring person. Weathering With You is a much darker film than your name., but its darkness and devastation quietly resolve into something that's also hopeful and light.

Setelah selesai membaca buku ini dan 'Your Name' versi terjemahan oleh penerbit yang sama (review bisa dicek di https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...), saya menyimpulkan bahwa buku memang hanya bisa jadi medium cerita sekunder untuk karya sekelas 'Your Name' dan 'Weathering with You'. Menurut saya terlalu sulit menerjemahkan keindahan animasinya menjadi kata-kata.

The bad: I'm reading the novel without having watched the movie, which on one hand probably doesn't give me the context others might have, but on the other hand might also allow me to have a less biased view. Although the rich and beautiful descriptions of Tokyo life and of the protagonist's shenanigans are interesting enough, the plot is fairly simple and the book isn't remarkable by any means - just good enough.

The good: the best part of the book are definitely the vivid and colorful descriptions of everyday life. The book reads like a fresh, innocent story, easy and pleasant to read.

Decided to give this book 3 stars instead of 2. I would recommend watching the movie first, though. Reading the book independently can be confusing at times, especially with the alternating povs. I wish they at least put an indication of who’s talking so the readers could actually save time from guessing lol. The scene breaks sometimes come off too abrupt and kind of disrupt the flow of the story. But I appreciated the story more after watching the movie and to be honest, I would’ve been fine without reading the book.

The story is mainly about the rain which never stopped until the 'Sunshine girl' prayed for a sunny weather. It tells about two high schoolers named Hodaka and Hina. Hodaka lived with his family in a island. But he was so pissed of his daily life that he left home and ran away to Tokyo. On the other hand, Hina was living with her younger brother Nagi. She had a mysterious power of controlling the weather. But she had to pay something if she used the power.

Honestly, this was boring!! The story was good but boring😐

Hodaka prayed-

Dear God, if you really exist, I beg you. This is more than enough. We don't need anything more than these. We'll manage somehow.
So,please.....
Don't give us anymore and don't take anything from us.
Dear God!
Please, I beg you.

I am giving this 3 stars for the prayer because we also have such delusions.

I think it's better to enjoy the movie than reading this book.

As a novel, this book is much better than your name. Like a million times better. The characters are more fleshed out, motivations are a bit clearer here, and I think the story is just overall more compelling. The afterward and essay both have reduced me to tears.

As a movie, I still think your name. is just slightly better (but probably because I've seen it more times).

Basically, read this book. Have Makoto Shinkai write and direct your life because at least you'll have a happy ending despite all the shit that happens.

I've been a fan of Makoto Shinkai's works for quite some time now, and although I missed the chance to watch his two latest films, "Tenki no Ko" and "Suzume”, when they were screened in theaters, I felt compelled to at least explore the light novel version of "Tenki no Ko" or "Weathering with You" (otherwise, I wouldn't be able to claim to be his fan!). The story unfolds at a measured pace. Initially, I found the protagonist, Hodaka Morishima, lacking a proper introduction. Everything starts briefly as Hodaka, a 16-year-old teenager, decides to run away, leaving his hometown on the island of Kōzu-shima in a boat bound for Tokyo. During his journey, his life is saved by a certain Mr Keisuke Suga, a company owner who, in turn, offers Hodaka a job during his brief sojourn in Tokyo when he has nowhere else to go.

Some aspects of the story are highly intriguing, particularly the central theme of "weather". In the story, there's a myth about "sunshine girls”, individuals who can influence the weather through prayer, essentially controlling it at will. As the story progresses, Hodaka becomes acquainted (and later, more intimate) with Hina Amano, one of these sunshine girls. Hina can bring sunny days when the weather forecast predicts rain, but this power comes at the cost of her eventual disappearance.

The way weather operates in the story contradicts the highly accurate weather forecasts in Japan, a country that invests approximately $570 million in weather and climate services. Given Japan's vulnerability to natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons, and irregular rainfall, it makes sense to allocate significant resources to meteorological forecasting technologies. However, this story introduces an element absent from meteorology: the influence of supernatural factors on the weather, embodied by the sunshine girl. It's reminiscent of an ancient Japanese myth about a colossal underground catfish called the Namazu or Ōnamazu, believed to cause earthquakes.

The story also emphasises the importance of preserving nature and considering the climate while asserting that everything on Earth is transient. When relentless rain inundates one-third of Tokyo after three years of continuous downpours in the story, it becomes evident that the submergence of Tokyo is an eventual reality, following the city's historical pattern. Beneath the concrete buildings and neon lights, Tokyo is a city built on water, where two ancient rivers, the Uda and the Onden, intersected. Over time, Tokyo has turned its back on its water heritage. Streams have been filled, and highways constructed directly over rivers. Waterways that once served as vital transportation routes and hubs of cultural life have become polluted, desolate, and nearly abandoned, something that happened to many major cities around the globe.

The story acknowledges that climate change is a reality but posits that it's not the first time in history that such climatic shifts or city submersions have occurred. Some events from the past are destined to recur as part of a cyclical pattern. Yet, this doesn't imply that Makoto Shinkai denies climate change or attributes it solely to divine intervention. Instead, he suggests that alongside technological factors, other supernatural forces may be at play in shaping the world's climate and destiny.

Definisi dari good mood langsung tiba-tiba mellow 🙂. Beneran, deh!🤣 kalau liat story aku 2 hari lalu, awalnya aku nganggep lucu gitu tentang bisnis membuat cuaca cerah, karena unik dan bikin ketawa baca ulasan pelanggan cuaca cerah. Ehhhh.. tapiii mendadak jadi sedih bgtttt 🥲.

#VioReads2022

Weathering With You menceritakan Hodaka yang kabur ke Tokyo.

”We’ll be all right.”

First, I’d like to apologize to your name. fans and say that I loved Weathering With You so much more. The idea of fighting against the fate you’re trapped in for the sake of one you love really resonated with me.

What I really adored about this book was all of the little details it adds on to the movie. Makoto Shinkai talks about it in the book’s afterword, saying they weren’t meant to be ‘bonuses’ and were added to smooth the transition from movie to novel, but they make the book just as amazing as the movie. I loved getting to see and hear the thoughts of the characters around Hodaka and Hina!

Weathering With You is my absolute favorite movie, and this book has become one of my favorites too. Both are incredible, and each in their own ways. Words can’t express how much I loved this! Thank you Makoto Shinkai! ♡

I think wordings below might help you get some main ideas of this romantic fantasy story from Makoto Shinkai.
