A rom-com novella that will warm every animal lover’s heart about two neighbors who fight like cats and dogs - but who can’t deny their animal attraction.
Ever since Alana Diaz adopted her cat Furrari, she has found herself in a feud with her infuriating neighbor, whom she knows only by the name on the passive aggressive notes he leaves on her door - R. Jones. Alana works hard all day, and the last thing she needs when she finally relaxes on her balcony with a glass of wine and her new furry roommate is her neighbor’s dog barking his head off. The only solution is to retreat inside. So what if her neighbor has smoldering good looks? It’s ruined when he glares at her little fuzzball of joy for upsetting his dog Kevin. And who the hell names their dog Kevin, anyway?
But when Furrari and Kevin both go missing, Alana and Jones are left with no choice but to team up. As their pets lead them through the beaches, fancy hotels, and more all over Coral Gables, two lonely, jaded people might find they've been chasing the wrong things all along.
Fun audio novella about neighbours who become frenemies after their pets create tension between them. Well actually it's not the pet's fault at all, more the owners. This is proven when the canine and feline decide to go on an adventure together when a door is left open. This brings everyone together while they hunt for their precious fur babies. Easy to listen to and nice break from my usual audio reads.
2.5 This had so much potential but damn I wanted to scream so many times out of frustration. The MC is annoying and catty and maybe it was the over dramatized narrator, but she was so damn over the top. It's VERY allocishet and the reason I picked it up is because it has a fat MC and has some pet love. But y'all, I was annoyed. If it was more than 2 hours I would've dnfd it. There's multiple moments of "you need love to live" and "I'm failing at life becasue I don't have a boyfriend". It just wasn't great.
3.5 stars. This is a fun romantic short. Two bickering neighbors bond while their pets lead them on a merry chase. Bonus points for a non-evil-ex-girlfriend character. Weird note: plus size characters on the cover but the characters bodies aren’t described in the book which I guess is better than the usual reverse?
Again, this was just cute. I liked the connection between their pets and how that’s what brought them together. I wish there was just a bit more in some of these short audios because they have such great potential but we just don’t get quite enough meat.
Two next-door neighbors in adjoining apartments that have never had contact with each other are soon at odds when Alana, on impulse, decides to visit a shelter near a store she’s just left. She ends up adopting Furrari, a cat she brings home. Soon after, she hears her neighbor’s dog, Kevin, go into a barking frenzy when Furrari joins her on her balcony. Her peaceful moment is shattered and her frustration mounts as this continues to happen. She knocks on his door and confronts him, and he in turn blames her for his quiet being interrupted because of her cat.
The next time she knocks on her door, an argument ensues, her cat manages to escape her apartment and the dog chases her into the elevator and out of the building, and these two hostile neighbors have no choice but to try to find them.
2.5 stars Meh, the male love interest didn't really work for me. Yes, he was a grump but he was constantly mean to her and didn't show ANY signs of affection towards her, so I didn't really buy his love confession at the end. There was literally no progress between him being an annoyed neighbor and them being a couple. It didn't make sense to me why they'd should end up together.
I just cannot stand cringe romance writing, and this one was FULL of it. The story might have had an interesting and fun start, but that all very quickly deteriorated into cringe and nonsense.
This was such a cute and fun romance to listen to!!
This is a short Audible audiobook that I listened to in one day while walking around campus. This romance is between Alana and Jones. They are next-door neighbors who do not get along. Alana has a cat that meows to all hours of the night and Jones has a dog that is constantly barking. The two of them are leaving notes on each other's door complaining about the other's pet. But then one day their pets get out and the two of them have to work together to find them.
I loved listening to this! If you want to listen to a cute enemies to lovers romance that you can finish in one sitting, please pick this one up!!
TROPES: books with pets, brooding hero, funny romances, hate to love, neighbors,
I am a simple woman. You give me animals and romance and I am here for it. The animal antics to make this relationship worked were a little cheesy but I have a cat so sue me for enjoying this. I listened to a few Audible Originals in a row, and I think The Set Up was better, but I still really liked this one.
Annoying neighbours to lovers, cute pets, and a great romance will always get me!
4.5 stars that was really CUTE .. I enjoyed this extremely short audiobook which follows Alana who just adopted a cat but for some reason her neighbor's dog always bark at it whenever it sees it .. so they are always fighting about keep each pet quiet, one day while they were fighting both the cat and the dog run away and they go in a whirlwind to find them I really liked it .. it's simple extremely fluffy and EXTREMELY short .. but I liked it
An okay story. Don’t know if it’s just me but the characters were annoying. They were way too confrontational that it was childish. Also, the narration was over the top/overly dramatic. Plot was okay but nothing special or interesting. It was simply exasperating & mediocre.
I liked this. It's a cute romp, two pet owners whose pets freak out (maybe the dog wants to eat the cat) and who do not get along (but he's sexy, she thinks) go on a quick and frantic adventure when the cat gets out at the dog chases after it. They work together to track said pets down, and in the process, catch feels. I liked it, was happy to overlook some of the plot issues (how, exactly, did the pets get through closed doors at the end?) and had fun with it. The only real negative was the performer, which—this is an audiobook only—made some odd choices with choosing to make POV character sound like she was always on the edge of an emotional meltdown, rather than just frantic and worried. I kept thinking she was going to completely lose it, which didn't really make me someone I enjoyed being around during the chase section of the story (about half of it, really).
This one also had a healthy dose at one point of "if you don't feel love"/"if you don't have love" equating with being broken/lost/unworthy nonsense. Romance can be written without kicking queer folk to the curb.
A cute novella-length “clean” romantic comedy. 1 hr, 32 minutes. Narrated by Therese Plummer.
Alanna and Jones are neighbors. He complains about how loud her cat Furrari is, she complains about how loud his dog Kevin is. One day when they’re fighting and distracted, Furrari and Kevin run away. Alana and Jones are led on a wild chase thru town.
I chose this one because of the pets. It’s cute, and it requires no emotional investment. A great way to occupy my driving to/from work today.
Didn't read that this was a novella before starting and now I'm reconsidering my rating scale for novellas. I'm generally pissed at the characters in novellas because the love (for romance novellas) feels a bit too insta-love to be insta-love. This was an "okay" read. The pets (cat and dog) are the highlight of this show and I have a little belief that the Cinderella fairytale would have progressed even faster if an animal was involved.
a rom com/loathes to lovers audible audio original about two neighboring pet owners who are feuding. Jones and Alana are fighting like “cats and dogs” but have to come together to find their pets when they escape.
I had this read on my “Simple Novella Listen” list so I personally enjoyed it. It was simple and fun to listen to on my lunch break.
Perfect for fans of The Truth About Cats and Dogs. Quick grumpy neighbors to owners on a task. Short, so don't expect huge character motivations but it's still a fun read.
I’m completely running on fumes and reading essays for 8 hours a day for ETS, for the past four days (three to go). This was cute, easy, and fun to listen to. That’s about all I can handle for the moment.
