Hi all, Emily Stormbrook here, I am a steamy paranormal romance, romance, and dark romance author, seeking to quieten the voices in my mind one story at a time. British born and raised, with a background in IT technical support (watching Jed's jobs was like a day in my life) I am currently a full-time carer for people with debilitating or degenerative neurological conditions and like to spend my time reading, gaming, and at the gym. I've always felt the pull to write what I hope are stimulating and sometimes a little dark books. I hope you'll join me on this journey.
Ivy Sinclair had been through hell. She had barely survived her captor, and she certainly hadn't been left in one piece, she was broken, hurting, and unable to face the horrors of what she had endured. Her mind is a prison, her only escape in the mindset she was trained to embrace, an escape she is no longer being granted. When the psychiatrist threaten to have her committed Miles realises he must do whatever it takes to keep her beside him. He has loved her for years, and now, with the help of Devon, he will discover a part of himself that he never knew existed, a part that holds the key to Ivy's survival.
Mastering Sin is the second book in the Addicted to Sin series. I don't know where to start with this review. Ivy was put through hell, and I hurt for her. Having read the first I already loved Miles, he is such a sweet character, which made the experimental side of him he embraced all the more alluring. I enjoyed the initial uncertainty and the building of confidence as he explores a scene he knows nothing about. The sex scenes are hot, the torture scenes disturbing, and I loved every minute of this emotionally charged and gripping read. I can't wait for more.
We start off this book with Ivy escaping her captor of three months, swimming for hours towards land with a "swim or die" attitude. She wasn't going back to that torture no matter what. She struggles with her last efforts to swim, completely exhausted and ready to die. With land in sight but still so far away, she goes down, down, down, but then she is pulled out by some people on jetskis and taken to the hospital. The nurses and doctors at the hospital have never seen anything like the torture she has gone through. It's very emotional and disturbing.
Keeping her identity a secret, Miles takes her home and tries his best to help her, but soon realizes he is over his head and doesn't understand why she is not responding. Although Ivy is now physically safe, she cannot break through the mental nightmare of her three months of torture and can't communicate that to Miles. Turning to their personal friend, psychiatrist, and experienced DOM for help, Miles realizes Ivy needs something he is not prepared for or familiar with. However, he is not going to let anyone else touch her and starts down the path, despite his insecurities, embracing this new lifestyle of BDSM he once thought was just torture and pain.
I really love both Miles and Ivy. I attached to both of them in book one and that attachment only grew stronger with this book. This book is graphic and twisted and it hits some really dark places, but it is emotionally charged and intense. Read for triggers, they are in here.
I only have one issue with this story and it's not a one that kept me from loving the story, just one that bugged me and I felt should have been dealt with. It was that Ivy never told anyone who her captor was, not Miles or Devon, the police or the FBI. For me I can't see that the police and the FBI, who were present and involved in her rescue at the hospital wouldn't have pushed for a name, as well as Miles and Devon. That could have been addressed with a little bit of trama induced memory loss or something just to fill that gap as the story unfolded. But that's just me.
I am still giving this book 4 stars and I definitely recommend it.
WHAT. A. RIDE, my folks. I flinched, smiled, cried, cursed (a lot, the villain had me wishing to wring his neck after pulling all the nails from his fingers.) The love scenes were freaking HOT and the relationship between the hero and heroine was full of spicy discoveries, but also with so much love and tenderness that they had me "awww-ing" a lot.
Ivy was so brave and truly a survivor, it's a good thing she got that YUMMY piece of man because damn, after all the sh1t she went through? She deserves the best and Miles is straight out of a dream. Their chemistry? They got me so envious. LOL
Perry, the villain was selfish and sick. To put it short, he was a walking trashcan and I spent the whole story fantasizing about a long and painful death for him. I've hated villains before, but this dude got extra points. The abuse scenes weren't easy to read, he was very, very cruel and imaginative in his torture. This is a darker story after all, but I think that there are lots of tender scenes too, the cute lines from hero and heroine totally make up for the darker parts, I promise.
I'm curious to read the third book. Recommended.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
Mastering Sin is the second book in Emily Stormbrook's Addicted to Sin series. After she was held for three months onboard a yacht by a sadistic man, Ivy Sinclair finally escapes. The man used BDSM tools and practices as torture to keep Ivy attached to him and satisfying his desires. Miles Taylor rushes to Ivy's side as soon as he learns she's been discovered, but he isn't prepared for the trauma ingrained into her every thought. In order to calm her battered mind, he must resort to a tactic he had never considered, but her response to his efforts encourages him. The man who abused Ivy isn't willing to release his "little pet" yet, though, and he uses his vast number of resources to find her.
Emily Stormbrook knows the right lines to cross, and she keeps her readers on the edge. The story is told from three perspectives, giving readers insight into the character's private thoughts and explaining their actions. The romance in the story is a slow burn, and the connection between Ivy and Miles carries plenty of steam. Stormbrook approaches the BDSM lifestyle like an experienced master, showing readers true information, so they can be better informed. Stormbrook lets the suspense linger, and several times it surprised me when the story took a deeper turn. Even though I started with the second book, it was easy for me to follow the story as Stormbrook dropped details about the first book throughout this one. Mastering Sin is a great selection for readers who enjoy romance and darker themes.
Having escaped one prison Ivy finds herself within another one she cant physically escape the o e that's i her mind. Miles is desperate to help Ivy the women hes loved forever, but will he end up pushing her further into her own mind or can he accept a part of himself is the key to her release? This is well written deeply dark, twisting story that continues on from the trauma Ivy experienced in book 1. The characters draw toy in and hold your attention with their emotion tugging read, it's a whirlwind read that has you questioning all and everything you think you know.

OMG!! I was literally speed reading to find out what happened next to Ivy. In many ways this is more powerful than Breaking Sin (book 1) and I think few readers would object to what Miles did. Personally I'd have left them all with Perry. Miles has grown into an amazing Dom to keep his Ivy. She is so strong. I am sure very few could ever be as strong as her, in the same circumstances. I wish I could read the final book in the trilogy right now. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I really loved this book. The state of Sin's mind at the beginning and how Miles (with the help of some friends) helped start to bring her back to who she is was so well done. I appreciate the way BDSM was portrayed in this book as it is often confused for abuse and this series devastatingly and wonderfully paints how BDSM and abuse are very much different in many ways. I don't want to spoil this book so this review is shorter than my last few. I would recommend but make sure you check the triggers.
This series was, I don't even know what to say. This is the first time I've read this author and definitely won't be the last. This book was intense. Beautifully intense. I feel like I felt almost everything. My emotions were all over the place. Definitely Dark, but that's what I like. I may need to read something fun before I get into another so soon. Lol. If you like DARK, definitely read this series.
I couldn't wait to read this story and I wasn't disappointed. It gad me on the edge of my seat and I couldn't put it down until I gad finished it. This story is so emotional it's crazy. It's so dark, you'll wonder if light actually exists, but the author brings you back from the depths of dispair so effortlessly it's a work of brilliance.
Ivy was broken and now she trying to heal with the help of the one she has always loved. But is it enough? Will he be able to save her and help put her back together. It is a crazy, heart pounding read. Can Miles end her nightmares? Ivy needs to keep her dark thoughts to stay at bay. Miles want to help her, but can he be what she needs him to be.

This book, along with the first, was super dark. Hard to grasp how tightly Perry held on to Sin, how much he manipulated and obsessed, but so easily let go. That part was a lot “weird”. I don’t feel like it matched up.
Ok, so I try to finish a series just to have closure. I will not be completing this one. Too much time and energy go waste when there are thousands of great books out there.
I'm not going to even try to summarize this book. Miles and Ivy deserve to be read by anyone and everyone. This book is painful, brilliant, and perfect. When the villain left the pages, painfully, I cheered.
There are only a few things that bothered me with this book. For alot of the beginning it seemed like there were things redundant from the first book. Things that didn't have to be said again. But once things got going... well done!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I really liked this. A lot. Wow. I love how much miles does for ivy and how much he cares for her. AHHHH I don’t even know what to say 😍😭 Love them so much together.
