সাট্টা এক ধরনের জুয়া। কিন্তু ঠিক কী ধরনের? কারা চালায়? কীভাবে চলে? গরিবের রক্তচোষা এই জুয়ার অজানা অন্ধকার জগৎটাকেই পটভূমি করে রূপক সাহা এ-উপন্যাসে এঁকেছেন একালের এক নিখুঁত ছবি। সে-ছবির একদিকে ঘুণধরা সমাজ, অন্যদিকে চিরকালীন প্রেম। অদ্ভুত সব শব্দ। ওপেন, ক্লোজ, ফিগার, পাত্তি—এমন আরও কত। অদ্ভুত, তবু সমাজজীবনে এই শব্দগুলোর প্রভাব আজ অনস্বীকার্য। এইজন্য নয় যে, সাম্প্রতিক এক ভয়ঙ্কর বিস্ফোরণের সঙ্গে জড়িয়ে আছে এইসব শব্দের উৎস সাট্টা নামটা। এইজন্যই যে, সাট্টা খেলাটাই বিস্ফোরক এক জুয়ার নাম। এ-উপন্যাসের পটভূমি সাট্টা নামের বিস্ফোরক সেই জুয়ার জগৎ। সাট্টা খেলাটা কী, কীভাবে সূত্রপাত, পুলিশ প্রশাসনের জেগে-ঘুমানো চোখের সামনে পাড়ায়-পাড়ায় কীভাবে রমরম করে ব্যবসা চালায় সাট্টাডনেরা—একদিকে সেই ছবিটাকে যেমন নিখুঁতভাবে মেলে ধরেছেন লেখক-জীবনটাকেই-জুয়া করে-তোলা এক শিক্ষিত তরুণের বিচিত্র জীবনকাহিনীর মধ্য দিয়ে, অন্যদিকে, তীব্র গতিময় এই উপন্যাসে অসামান্য কুশলতায় এঁকেছেন চিরকালীন প্রেমের স্নিগ্ধ, সমকালীন আলেখ্য।

About the author

Rupak Saha Started his journalistic career as a freelance journalist in “AnandaBazar Patrika”, before shifting to the sports section. He later became the sports editor for” Ananda Bazar Patrika”. After serving as a sports editor for twelve years he was transferred to their films oriented magazine called “Anandalok”. In 2004 he became the editor of “Anandalok”. Here his tenure was for few years. At present he is the sports Editor of the newspaper “Sakalbela”

As a sports editor he had to cover World Cup Football, World Cup Cricket, Olympic Games and Asian Games for which he had widely traveled abroad. He is also seen as an authority on football and cricket in the panel of experts he was associated with various news channel.

In 1994, he wrote his first novel “Juwari”, when this was published in “Ananda Bazar Patrika” it brought him instant fame two of his novels “Juwari” & “Lal Ranger Prithivi” were made into films. He wrote sixteen novels the last one titled “Reality Slow” which was recently published. This new concept was well received by his fans. Even in the small screen he made his presence felt in the form of two serial “Sada Patay Kalo Daag” and Football in Zee TV. There were several telefilms and also another serial “Chorapothey Chiriakhana”. Rupak Saha also had contributed to several books on football. He was the proud recipient of the “Best Sports Journalist” award by the Govt. of West Bengal.

আজ থেকে তিন দশক আগে প্রকাশিত প্রথম শারদীয় 'পত্রিকা' ছিল চাঁদের হাট। সেইসময়ের সেরা লেখকেরা প্রায় প্রত্যেকে লিখেছিলেন তাতে। সেই সংখ্যাতেই প্রকাশিত হয়েছিল এই উপন্যাসটি। বাণী বসু'র "একুশে পা" আর শীর্ষেন্দু'র "ঋণ"-এর পাশাপাশি পড়া এই উপন্যাসটির অনেক কিছু ঝাপসা হয়ে এসেছিল মাঝের বছরগুলোতে। এবার, লেখাটা নতুন করে পড়তে গিয়ে, অনুভূতিগুলো একবার ঝালাই করে নেওয়া গেল।
এই উপন্যাসের ভালো দিক হল এর চরিত্ররা— যারা সচরাচর সাহিত্যের কেন্দ্রে আসে না। উচ্চবিত্তের যৌনলীলা, মধ্যবিত্তের সাংসারিক পুতুলখেলা, আর নিম্নবিত্তের তথাকথিত জীবনসংগ্রাম— এগুলোই ছিল সেই সময়ের প্রমিত বাংলা সাহিত্যের উপজীব্য। কিন্তু এই উপন্যাস নগর আর মদস্বলের উদ্ধত যৌবনের নিজস্ব সংশয়, দ্বিধা এবং আবেগের বিস্ফোরক তথা হিংস্র প্রকাশকে নিয়ে গড়ে উঠেছিল।
আমাদের আশেপাশের সুবিধাবাদী রাজনীতি আর প্রশাসনিক ক্লীবত্ব কীভাবে মানুষকে জীবন নিয়ে জুয়া খেলতে বাধ্য করে, তার অত্যন্ত দ্রুতগামী বিবরণ আছে এই লেখায়। তার হিংস্রতা, প্রেম, দুঃখ, হাহাকার— এমন নানা দৃশ্যান্তর দেখে উপন্যাসের বদলে কোনো সিনেমার কথাই মনে পড়ে। মুশকিল হল, চরিত্রদের স্বল্পায়ু অস্তিত্ব এবং ঘোরতর ফর্মুলাবদ্ধ চলনই এই উপন্যাসকে মাত্র একবার পাঠের উপযুক্ত করে রাখে। এটিই এই লেখার ট্র্যাজেডি।
তবে সেই একবার পাঠের অভিঘাতও থেকে যায় বেশ কিছুক্ষণ ধরে— এ-কথাও স্বীকার্য।
