Amy has always had a hard life as from a very young and innocent age, she was the main caretaker for both of her sisters. Her cruel father drinks away his money and her mother is kept busy with his many unreasonable demands. The only thing that matters to Amy is to create a better life for her sisters. Out of nowhere, an exciting opportunity presents itself, when a letter with an interesting proposal arrives. Amy jumps at the chance to become a mail-order bride and promises to return once she is settled to take her sisters away too. Although a bit reserved and reluctant at first, Amy can’t deny the respect and admiration she feels for her future husband. Could these emotions turn into something deeper and stronger that will heal Amy’s tormented soul?
Mark has fallen on hard times since he suffered a terrible accident that incapacitated him and put him in need of someone to nurse him back to health. With prompting from his best friend, he realizes that a mail-order bride is the solution he is looking for. To his disappointment, the woman who shows up at his doorstep is only interested in materialistic things, so Mark knows she is not the right option for him. He longs for a loving and loyal wife who is willing to stick with him for the rough times as well as the good ones. His wish comes true, when Amy appears after her cousin’s invitation and Mark can tell that she is the one his heart has been waiting for. Will he manage to break her walls and earn her trust, before it is too late?
When Mark and Amy meet each other, there is an instant spark between them. However, as their fragile relationship grows, secrets from the past arise, threatening to tear them apart. When everything is exposed about both of them, can they fight for one another until they find love? Or will they give up and lose each other forever?
With the prevailing attitude of the time concerning seeing, much less touching of the body of the opposite sex, I can easily imagine how hard it was for Mark to admit he needed help. However I can’t imagine the helplessness of Amy and her siblings and mother against her father. With all the options available for women now, it is still hard for some women to break away from abuse, much less in the 1800’s. Failure to communicate is a problem for marriages today and it definitely was for Amy and Mark. Carol Colyer has once again drawn characters that are realistic for the times and a story line that was probably all too often true. I did resort to yelling a few times, not that it did any good. Despite the yelling, I enjoyed this story.
Her Glimmer of Hope A Historical Western Romance Book
This is a very good story about a young woman that is desperate to save her family as she works hard to provide for them so she married a friend of her cousin There are several twists and turns but Any and Mark find love and happiness The characters are determined and forgiving and the extended epilogue completes the story with a good update on characters
This is a tale of guilt, forgiveness and reconciliation. Amy had a hard life with a drunken, gambling father who spent every cent he made in the saloon. Amy worked very hard to provide for her mother and two sisters. When she found that the man she was going to marry was just like her father she ended the relationship. This began a heart wrenching adventure for everyone. An excellent story.
Can Mark and Amy meet the challenges that face them? This book touched on issues that still plague people today and did a splendid job of incorporating them into her story. The characters, their challenges, and solutions were real and that made for an engaging and thought-provoking read. What would you do if faced with their challenges? This was a good book and I highly recommend it.
It took me longer to get to read this one, but oh, was it worth it. Seems like everyone she writes, gets better. I start one, and cannot put it down until I finish it. Thank you Carol, keep them coming. I am of an age that I want to read everyone I can. So I will give this one 5stars, and wish I could give it more. Congratulations on another one.

kicked out of her home by her father Amy starts a new life
Amy’s fiancée betrays her drinking and gambling so she ends her engagement. Her own drunk gambler of a father sided with her ex-fiancée and kicked her out of her own home. She hurriedly becomes a mail order bride to have a home.
Can Amy & Mark learn to live together. They are complete strangers that are wary of each other. Will Amy be honest with him about her sisters or will it be too late to be honest? Mark knows that he also needs to tell Amy the truth but he knows that he could lose her. Will they be able to move forward as a couple? A good read
This story is interesting. The struggles of the various characters are well outlined and I love that the solutions are realistic. I cheered when romance entered the relationship.
Great story full of emotion and some added suspense. The characters were so heartwarming and the storyline showed great understanding of the dynamics in a troubled family. Couldn’t put it down.
