Not at all what I expected from the other reviews, so I'll just dive in with a short review....the beginning of the story is waaaay too much backstory and useless information that we don't need and then it doesn't actually get interesting until about 80% of the way through the book. I kept wanting to just drop it and leave it unfinished on so many occasions, struggling to get halfway through. But I figured with such a high rating, there had to be some really good twists. And there were! Don't get me wrong, but the first one is totally obvious. Like, it's kind of laid out for you.
The rest of the twists are definitely a surprise, however, with them being so tightly compacted into the last 25% of the book, you didn't get to enjoy them. They was no rollercoaster or ride to be taken on, it was just like 'okay here's the plot twist, and then take this one too, and while you're at it, here's the last one'. With them all being laid out so tightly on top of each other, there inevitably wasn't any shock value.
All in all though good idea for a story. Just not my cup of tea.
Rating - 2 stars - too much dead space and filler before getting to a single twist
Steam - 3 stars - yeah it's there and it's good, but steam doesn't save a book
Storyline - 4 stars - the actual ideas for the story are good, just not completed well
Plot Twists - 3 stars - really cool twists and turns to the story but there's no breathing room in between them. the author doesn't allow time for them to settle before springing another one
Emotional Pull - 1 star - no tears, no giggles, just frustration
Writing - 2 stars - wasn't a fan
Denouement - 3 stars - the ending isn't fully realized, like the author left it a little open in case she wanted to write more.
Cliffhanger? - a little
HEA? - uhmmm, yeah sure
