Merry Wrath Mysteries #18

Mascots Are Murder

Rate this book
From USA Today bestselling author Leslie Langtry comes the funniest high school reunion you've ever attended!

"Welcome Back to Who’s There, Iowa, Who-rish, to your 10 Year Reunion!”

A 10 year high school reunion happens only once, and to many, they can be a nightmare of revisiting past slights, humiliating moments and the class paste-eater—aka Officer Kevin Dooley. But ex-CIA agent turned Midwestern Girl Scout troop leader Merry Wrath figures that when you’ve been undercover with Colombian drug lords, embedded with Yakuza, and chased by an armed chicken through Chechnya, how bad could it be? Even her scout troop gets in the game by handling registration with overly enthusiastic weapons searches and background checks.

“Old friends are waiting to see you again!”

But there’s more going on than the tradition of spiking the punch. It doesn’t take long before the loathed Class President threatens to reveal dangerous secrets, half the class starts hallucinating, and they all find themselves locked into the gym by a murderous ninja janitor. And since there wasn’t a Most Likely to Murder the Prom Queen category in the yearbook, Merry has to move fast to make sure there are enough classmates left for a 15 year reunion!

A way over the top cozy. A former CIA agent, now the leader of a girl scout troop goes to her class reunion, and for some reason her scout troop comes along. The girl scouts spike the punch with LSD, and most of the class passes out. Then someone locks the doors to the gym, and the murders start happening.

It all gets solved in the end, but these girl scouts need to be locked up.

Merry and Kelly are attending their 10th (no, 11th) year high school reunion, along with more than 50 other of their classmates, and four Girl Scouts. This book had me constantly laughing out loud. The members of Merry and Kelly’s Girl Scout Troop are as hilarious as ever. They all wind up being locked in and all kinds of trouble reigns. I highly recommend this book and hope we don’t have to wait long for the next book in the series.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

Merry goes into detective mode when her class reunion leads to murder. Fortunately she has the help of her best friend and four of the most uniquely talented girls from her Girl Scout troop. This is a funny story with a solid mystery and some great twists in the end.

Mascots are Murder earns 5/5 Science Experiments...Engaging Romp!

Gimme an M-E-R-R-Y! Cheers to Leslie Langtry! The new eighteenth adventure in her Merry Wrath Mystery series has many exciting elements one might have wished for at their own reunion, especially pint-sized security with an attitude! Merry Wrath and her BFF Kelly Albers are somewhat leery about attending their, albeit one year delayed, ten-year high school reunion. Not wanting to be stuck at the front checking guests in as they were assigned, Merry instead enlisted four of her Girl Scouts with the perk of a later slumber party. However, Betty is a bit overzealous demanding IDs, threatening to non-compliers, and tackling one to the floor. And what will Merry do when little Lauren zip ties the class treasurer? Go enjoy the party, of course! Merry and Kelly try to join in the festivities visiting with former classmates along with raising an eyebrow on those who’ve totally changed and planning ways to avoid others. Fortunately, the class president Marla Zimmer takes the stage grabbing everyone’s attention with a few acerbic comments. Despite her family’s wealth and position, Marla was not well liked then, only receiving honors and awards by coercion, and now is no exception. She announces her staged program will be a revelation to many who wish the past to stay the past. Then, locked doors, no cell service, spiked punch, and a dead body! Should have passed on the reunion!

Leslie Langtry’s well-written mystery gets delightfully complicated as more bodies are discovered, and secrets, easily viewed as motives, are cleverly exposed. There were moments where I thought I had it, but the final solution, although not on my radar at all, was realistically spot on. Leslie’s writing style is filled with descriptive language, rich characters, and perilous predicaments, but the spiked punch was an off-putting element. One needs to suspend disbelief when dealing with Merry’s ten-year-old dynamos, which I do, and although I find the girls funny, clever, and can only image what these girls could accomplish in the real world, this time they may have gone just a bit too far with their “experiment.” That aside, I totally enjoyed it! And a hint of what’s coming next is given a nice nod!

Disclosure: I received an ARC from Gemma Halliday Publishing. My review is voluntary with honest insights and comments.

Eleven years after high school graduation, Merry and Kelly go to their tenth class reunion. (Yes, you read that right. It took 11 years to have the 10 year reunion.) Merry is in charge of registering classmates at the door, and has enlisted four of her Girl Scout Troop (led by Betty) to complete the task. Unfortunately the girls also decide to do a little research on their own during the party. But having the four girls proves beneficial when the party finds itself locked in the gym (by a ninja janitor the girls say) and bodies start mounting up.

I am a huge Merry Wrath fan, but not such a fan of locked door mysteries. There were three murders, one easy to figure out and one random. Even Kevin Dooley's humorous presence wasn't enough to keep me from getting a little antsy and wanting the book to be over.
(My 4* rating is the reflection of my personal opinions and not a reflection on the quality of the actual book. It is well written, humorous, and full of funny reminiscences of Merry's CIA life.)

For others who like this type of mystery, you will enjoy the many diversions and antics in this well written new story.

A Laugh in Every Scene

Merry and Kelly are going to their ten year reunion, only it’s been eleven years. The evening start with the class president threatening to reveal secrets about the attendees. When she is found murdered the game is afoot. With four of the Girl Scouts in attendance and all of them trapped in the gym it’s a nightmare. Funny and intriguing.

Never miss an adventure with Merry, Kelly, and the girl scouts. This who-done-it takes place at Merry's high school reunion. A typical group of adults looking back on their high school days until a dead body shows up. No worries, Merry knows what to do, this happens to her a lot. Besides, our favorite, relatively worthless, Officer Kevin Dooley went to high school with Merry so he is there too. Not to mention some of Merry's girl scout troop who are somehow working the registration table. I love Betty, can I just say that a hundred times, I love Betty.

They get locked into the high school gym and it becomes a race to find out who means harm to others and who is next. But who doesn't have a beef with their high school classmates? Turns out there are many, and Merry needs to unfold another mystery.

Another wonderful, creative book in the Merry Wrath series.  This one astonishes me because the entire book takes place over just a few hours.  Merry and Kelly are attending their 10th (11th) high school reunion.  They are assigned the task of checking everyone in, but Merry decides to have Betty and four other of her scouts take over.  However, things turn deadly when the entire class is locked in the gym and multiple classmates, one by one, end up dead!  Merry only has Kevin, the bumbling policeman who eats everything under the sun, to help her figure out what is going on, free them from the gym, and solve who is murdering her classmates.  Oh yeah, and Betty adds a twist of her own (but it is so outrageous and Betty-like I won’t spoil the fun by telling you about it).  I loved this one, but then again, I love every book in this series!

I received an ARC in return for an honest review.
Ms. Langtry is one of my favorite authors. I fell in love with the Merry Wrath series from the first book I read in it - which was not book one by the way. This book takes Merry and Kelly to their 11 year high school reunion. Merry really isn't happy to be going and is surprised to find 4 of her girl scout troop girls manning check in. Spiked punch, annoying classmates, being locked in the gym, dead bodies and a killer on the loose is what she'll deal with. Oh and girl scout Betty has a few tricks up her sleeve. Merry gets very frustrated with this one. There are so many suspects and then they all seem innocent. It was fun trying to figure it out and to see how her CIA trained brain works. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

Never a dull moment as you check in with Merry Wrath and the Girl Scout Troop! Just the perfect amount of humor infused in this twisty mystery that is sure to keep you guessing! You can read this as a standalone, but, you will certainly want to go back and read the others as their escapades and penchant for finding murder victims is always a wonderful read full of laugh-out-loud moments. Wonderful, well-developed characters keep the reader engaged in this Kindle-swiper that is sure to please. This mystery takes us to a HS class reunion where there is no shortage of bodies, alive or dead. So, stop reading here and go get this fun mystery now! You won't be sorry! I received an ARC of this book and am providing my honest opinion.

Merry Wrath, Kelly and the scouts are back! They are all attending Merry’s 11th Reunion with the scouts volunteering. Led by Betty they are up to their usual mischief, running background checks, questioning the attendees, weapon searches and spiking the punch. With the reunion barely getting started, the Class President threatens the class with many hidden revelations later in the evening. Soon, half the class starts hallucinating, the class president is found dead, and they all have been locked in the gym with no cell phone service. Officer Kevin Dooley is useless, as usual and Merry and the scouts must team together to solve the murder and get free. I never suspected who the killer was until it was revealed. A must for fans of the series, although it can be read as a stand-alone.

Wonderful mystery listening 🎶😉

Another will written murder mystery adventure thriller novel by Leslie Langtry book eighteen in the Merry Wrath Mystery Series. Merry is attending her tenth school reunion with her best friend and four girls from the girl 👧 scout troop when murder happens. And then two more as Merry races about investigating. They are locked in the school gym. Merry solves the investigation leading to three arrest. I would recommend this series and author to readers of mysteries. Enjoy the adventure of reading 👓 or listening 🎶to Alexa as I do because of eye issues and damage. 🏡🔰👒😢 2022

merry wraith and her troops strike again

This series truly makes me laugh. Merry has such a sense of humor. Instead of being all serious James Bond type of spy. This ex spy has a non traditional way of seeing things. Backed up by her best friend who is much more straight laced and their Girl Scout troop, the series never fails to entertain. The characters are fun and the story relies on cleverness and not sex or violence to carry your interest. You can tell Merry is loyal and this makes the story hold your interest. I eagerly read the next installment and don’t ever want this series to end.

It's a killer high school reunion in Mascots Are Murder. Locked in the gym with a killer, Merry has four able assistants in her girl scouts with serious skills. As always the girl scouts are enthusiastic about unmasking a killer. Despite murder, this will be the funniest reunion you ever attended. With a ton of suspects and more plot twists than I could count, you will be kept guessing until the end in this well written caper.

Girls sat down and began weapon making. They’re not going down with out a fight! A awesome read. Bet you can’t put it down!

It's Merry's high school reunion! A group of random people come together for the event, including four of the Girl Scouts - and my favourite one - Betty! When the doors are locked from the outside, meaning no one can leave, and a guest is found murdered, it's up to Merry and her girls to help find the killer among them.

Merry books are always fun to read! This one was entirely set in one venue, but it didn't make it any easier to figure out who the culprit was. Betty, as usual, was awesome, and seems to learn new, scarier skills each day.

Another fun Merry (& Betty!) story!

Only Merry could have a high school reunion that includes murder! And some of the Girl Scouts are there! Another hilarious addition to this series! This series just keep getting more wonderful and bizarre with each new book. If you like quirky heroines, precocious pre-teens and great mysteries, then this series is for you!

There is a lot going on in this one. Multiple murders, Girl Scout antics & old high school secrets and grudges. Merry, Kelly & 4 members of their troop find themselves in the middle of it all. I did not figure out what was going on until the author revealed it. Look forward to reading the next one.

Laughing Out Loud

I thought my 10th high school reunion was bad, but it has nothing on Merry Wrath's--, Girl Scout leader, and former CIA spy. Hallucinogens, ninja janitors, and multiple murders send one and all into grouchy, bitter, regret-filled memories. Was high school really this bad? Yes, yes it was.

Merry Wrath never fails to amaze! Her author, Leslie Langtry, doesn't do bad either. Girl Scouts will never be the same. I wish I had done these things with my troop, but I guess 5 year olds weren't quite ready for Wrath-scouting.

Good book

Never saw the ending coming. This 'who done it's did me in. I thought the beginning was a bit slow, but the rest of the book was good. I have questions but I'll reserve them for the author.

Reunions can be murder. By Merry

If you want to get even with the kid who caused you so much trouble just go to the reunion and fix the issue. That or you might be the issue so stay away from all reunions. That is Merry’s plan from now on.

Only in Who's There

A 10 year reunion to die for! Only held in the eleventh year. Only Merry and Betty could make it a comedy of errors and keep us entertained until the ah ha moment and then revelation of who did what to whom.
