In a previous book by Michael Gordon Deano the dinosaur was introduced. This is the second book in this children’s series about emotions.

Deano is frustrated. His toys get knocked down, he can’t get the ball in soccer and things are just making him frustrated!

This is a good emotion to explore with children as it happens to the best of us!

The author goes through very concrete steps in how to handle frustration. Breathing and counting from 1 to 10 is a good place to start. Nice and calming while centering with the breathing.

At the end of the book are some coloring pages. Also some workbook style pages that help the young reader or child who is being read to, look at the body sensations that respond to emotions and help in identifying emotions.

A variety of ways to handle the feelings of frustration are explored at the end of the book in easy to read charts listing appropriate activities.

I like things that are concrete and easy to do for children. This book handles that nicely.

I would highly recommend this book for young children who are able to understand the concept of emotions and can follow simple directions handling those emotions.

Frustration is one that’s experienced by everyone! (Even adults could take a few tips from this book!)

When I Feel Like Giving Up by Michael Gordon
Book starts with a name plate.
Colorful children's story about Deano and for the most part he's a happy dinosaur.
Sometimes he gets angry...
One episode he's building towers of building blocks and everything is going just great, then it all tumbles down and he starts to cry.
There are other examples and his mother tells him when you're calmed down you will feel goad.
The breathing and counting help shim and they point out all the things he does do well.
Thank you note from the author and coloring page and how to identify emotions chart are all included at the end.
Love choice board and even yoga poses.

Here is the second exciting book in the Coping Skills set by Michael Gordon. This book shows simple ways to help children Ages 3-5 know what to do when he is frustrated. Truthfully any age having a hard time with frustration can use these options. The illustrations show the realistic ways a child can relate to. I highly recommend this book.
Sometimes Deano gets frustrated and doesn't know what to do. He just wants to roar. Frustration is horrible and ruins his day. What does Deano do? You can find out by
listening to this wonderful book. There are coloring pages in the back. There are also Identifying Emotions charts in the back there, too.

Deano Dinosaur is frustrated. Mom and dad have been watching when he gets frustrated and his reactions. They give him pointers on ways he can try to calm himself down before he reacts poorly by stomping his feel and hurting others' feelings.

I love the coloring pages and identifying emotions pages at the end of the book.

I was given the opportunity by Michael Gordon to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Helpful hints

I read this book to my granddaughter and it helped her to relate to how she feels at times. She and I immediately tried some exercises to reinforce that sometimes adults also feel this way and we can help each other with exercises. She especially liked the yoga . She loves Dino and the rhyming makes it fun. I highly recommend this book for both parents and children.

Great book

I loved this book. Such a relatable book for my foster child who has dealt with a lot of frustration and unkept promises. Great activities in the back of the book to spur on conversations with your child.

Well written

Enjoyed reading this to my kids. We even tried the strategies at the end of the book together. We also talked about times they experienced these feelings and how they handled them.

It was alright

My son says, "My goodness, was the end ever boring!" I thought the book would be interesting because it has dinosaurs and would be a cute way to talk about ways to deal with frustration but my son just says, "Meh."

Deano the dinosaur has trouble handling frustration when things do not go his way. His parents give him some things he can do to calm down. They also remind him of all the wonderful things he can do.
This is one of many books in this series for young children about emotions.
