Kiera's story is worth a 5* review BUT the abrupt, jaring and seemingly irrelevant transitions to telling the Council and Orthodox sub plots makes it a difficult read at times. I expect the two outlying stories will become much more relevant in the next book or two but I expect better quality from this author. Michael I know you've built your whole company around quantity of publication per the old pulp fiction concept (like the "Gunsmith" series that started in the early 70's). On line readers get to be way more selective in what they purchase and lost quality will result in lot of Amazon prime readers making a free try at a series and then not paying for future books.
At about 38% (according to Kindle) I made a note saying “there’s really way too much bla bla and faffing around.”. Unfortunately, att 100% I felt the same way.
This book is just a bunch of talk, talk, mucking about and is quite frankly boring. It never really goes anywhere interesting and, in particular, Kera isn’t really developing. When there was actually something going on it was a bunch of vendettas and politics inside of the various covens, especially the Russian one, that mostly behaves like assholes.
Of course the two asshats from the previous book are still around although they actually seem to start to doubt their previous actions. Maybe they will actually turn around a bit but honestly, I am not sure I can be bothered to read more books in this series. There’s so much more good books out there and this series has, so far, been on the lower half of the scale for me.
This tale of Magical Realism is thrilling. Kera is juggling a lot: a kingpin moving into the vacuum left by her previous actions, a mentor-witch she can't trust, a friend who's reading the same book on magic, and her boyfriend. With all of this juggling, her sanity is in question.
The violence represented by the new kingpin leads to plenty of high-danger, high-action scenes. The covens add a sense of intrigue. The overactive metabolisms and excessive calorie consumption add a feeling of strangeness. Overall, the story is engrossing to the end.
Life continues to get more complicated for Kera, Stephanie, and Chris. A new mob boss comes on the scene. His takeover plans cause many deaths and will cause more unless he is stopped. What remains of Pauline's group gets involved to help. Pavla is back and is in trouble with the Ortodoxy. The Thatamugists. are at Lovecrafts estate training. Lots of magic, martial arts, and large amounts of food.
As the original "badass witch" series. Although MA is listed as the author of both series, I am highly disappointed at the continuity problems between the original and the sequel series. Makes it very difficult for me to read. 2nd series also seems to have a lot more gratuitous violence that upsets the flow of the narrative, as though the author has to pad the book to reach the page count goal.
Good book for those who don't want humor in their reading. Lots of action, good characters, and an urban paranormal story line.
TKG by this author contains violence, cursing, and very bad guys; but it also has light moments and laugh out loud moments which balance the former. I miss that balance in this series. Mrs F
Another excellent story in the series. Kera really gets into the middle of things, and has to push herself to learn more about her magical powers. This is a great follow on to the first series, and I look forward to seeing where the sub plot stories end up. I know there’s going to be a clashing of groups in the future.
Just as boring as the first book. The chapters featuring the Council were so bad that I just ended up skimming them. I typically love Mr Anderle's work so this really disappoints me. Since I already bought book 3 I will give it a go, but without massive improvement that will be as far as I go in this series
Kickass action just the way i like yo read about, as the team expands and the world comes around to magic the wider world looks to cause a lot more trouble for out witch and friends and keeping me more than happy.
Kera and Stephanie are at it again cleaning up LA but with help this time. The fight is a lot bigger than they can handle but they have help from a source Mera does knows nothing about. But one who she had great influence over.
As usual, Kara and friends are in a mess as they take on a new drug lord. The two secret societies need to face the fact that they can not control all magical people.
The plotline with Kera is still good. However, the side plot with the other North American mages is getting very old and the Orthodoxy was overdone. The latter ended well and hopefully it won't be brought back. I dread what will come with the NA mages because it seems to be pointless.
This is an exciting story In a new series by a wonderful author. Who knows how to write an exciting and thrilling story that keeps you coming back for more. ENJOY!
I enjoyed the book but I liked the first one better. I’m also still unsure about the characters here. It’s a good book, but not really on the top of my list.
