Length: It has 48 Chapters (most of them long) so I would say about 500 - 600 ish pages about. It mentions on Wattpad that it takes about 16 hours to read on average. I would say it took me 20 ish hours, maybe a little less.
This fic starts off pretty meh, but really picks up like 40% in. The author admits that this was their first fic as well as being 15/16 when they wrote it (they mention this in the authors note). Point being the author admits this fic has its issue/slow parts. With that being said though, this was good. This has one of the best original characters I have ever read in fic / in a book in awhile: Estella. She is a smart/strong herione, but not in an annoying way. I like that the author shows that she has her short comings and faults. She is the light to Tom's dark, and boy is Tom darrrrrkkkkk in this fic. I think this is the most in character Tom Riddle I have read in a fic ever. The author doesn't try to dress him up as misunderstood, "I didn't get hugs from mommy, so I'm bad" type of character. I also like that Estalla and Tom's relationship is a rocky slow-burn ( no insta lust for her and the prince of no hearts here folks).
The second book in this series "The Dawn of Darkness" is sending me! The author even mentions this in their authors note at the beginning of "Modification", that "The Dawn of Darkness" is more developed and a mature work in terms of writing style and character development. You have to read "Modification" first though to understand the characters and their relationships with one another, otherwise you'll think why is Estella doing this or that. If you don't read the first book you lose out on a lot of character development and backstory, you need to read it in order to appreciate the second book.
Smut level is very low on this one, we only get one scene that is fade to black. I will mention again that it is very much so a slow burn. The back and forth between Estella and Tom makes it worth it! I like smart people banter lol!
I read a Tom Riddle fic and it was freaking amazing 🤩 I love him and estella 🥰
So I’m a bit late for a review on this fanfic, but it was a wonderful read and you can find it on Wattpad! It was so very well written! It was like reading a Draco fic, that’s how professionally written this was. I could tell the author put their time into this story. Tom is an unlikable character and most people I’m sure wouldn’t find any redeeming qualities about him. He’s rude, has a god-like complex, and tortures his “friends”. And that’s not even the half of it. But when you add Estella, a new Ravenclaw to the mix of things with Tom and his gang, things get interesting. This author makes Tom seem human, and gives him some qualities that make you feel for him and love him even though he’s done so much bad things. You still want him to have a happy ending with Estella.
Basically, this is a story of a true villain falling in love. He sets fire to the world around them but doesn’t let anything touch her. If you like stories like that, then you’ll love this amazing Tom Marvolo Riddle fic!!
(Not me rating all the Tom Riddle fanfics at a random night because they are still considered as books) 5 STARS!!! Im definitely late to this read considering it has been out since... many years. And I only just finished it in 2024. But anyways READ THIS. READ THIS. READ THIS. I literally love it when authors write Tom exactly how he is supposed to be.
ONE OF THE MOST PHENOMENAL BOOKS I HAVE EVER READ IN MY WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE AND I AM OLD! JUST CHEFS 💋 THE WORLD BUILDING, THE CHARACTER BUILDING! THE AUTHOR PUT HER WHOLE BUDUSSY INTO THE BOOK PERIOD!
AAAAAAA ITS SO GOOD, it made me feel more self assured as i took over the personality from the main character (i was a teen then okay) but i read it again now and still i love it
