Make me the most powerful spellcaster in the entire world.

A young woman is killed and is given the chance to reincarnate in another world with cheat-like magic powers. She accepts, only to find that this world treats magic users the same way hers did— by hunting them down for heresy.

She will be hunted by the Church, shunned by her peers, having to fight both people and monsters to survive. When faced with inquisitors, slavers, terrorists, and more, Melas will have no choice but to overcome them to seize her own destiny, or fail and run from it all.

Talented writing, boring story

I love this author and I love reading Salvos books. This book feels like it was just practice to get V. A. Lewis started. Intentional or not, the perpetual dystopian trend of the story leaves nothing to hope for, and virtually no meaningful character growth. Melas *maybe evolved at the end to a more food independent magical type being, but not a single person who lived showed enough virtue and intelligence to make it interesting. I would definitely not read this book again. The only reason I give it three stars is the obvious talent in the writing - and I have read much worse on a Kindle device. You may want to skim this book if you want the beginning of the Melas storyline.
* time scale is intentionally not limited to this book to be confusing and avoid spoilers.

Annoying and pathetic MC

So this is a slow book. By that i mean slow to like. I hated and forced myself to read until last quarter of the book. The MC is detestable and weak minded. Granted the 12yr old body but 28yr old mind so shouldn't have so many mental hang ups. It was not fun to read about. Cringe worthy. Painful. I much preferred reading a small excerpts about the companions that temporarily entered her life. The side characters were more fun and certainly more enjoyable to read about. The last order of the book she finally got a spine. Somewhat! However there is finally some progression in the procrastination. Not very Descriptive progression but something none the less. The magic in this book and I will assume the rest of the series is very nebulous. Certainly no number stats no cultivation just seems to be somewhat arbitrary advancement. In the last quarter of the book the we start to see the MC advance. Maybe she will come up with a way To help herself and others, because most of the options that she is found so far are not palatable. Not sure I will be reading the second book this one was a bit of a struggle even though near the end i saw some improvement.

Awesome story but non-existant editing!

I love the story. Melas is such a good character. She seems to truly want to do her best despite not knowing what is the right thing a lot of the time. Her character also seems really realistic. I took a star of for the rampant grammar errors that I found throughout the book, however. I swear, I must have submitted around 500-600 typo errors where the wrong word was used, the tense or singular and plural were switched around in the same sentence, or where words were just outright missing from sentences. It got to be really tiring, but my OCD would not let me stop......

Anywho, I really liked the book and I can't wait to start on the next one, so here's to the continuation of this great story!

Couldn't finish it. Not for me!

Only read25% of the book and I just could not do it.

Before going into this book, you need to understand that it is doom and gloom. Nothing good happens to the main character in the first 25% of this book.

This book was just so horribly depressing to read. It was like someone took The Grapes of Wrath, any Charles Dickens book, and Less Miserables, and rolled the emotional turmoil together and put it into this book.

I truly hope you like it better than myself.

Good but not Great

I've been following this Author's other work (Salvos) for quite a while so the prospect of another series with some similar themes was exactly what I was looking for, but that is not this series.

Unlike Salvos this series is largely a tragedy featuring a child MC. If you are looking for a progression fantasy, note that there are no progression elements until about 55% through the book.

Great story, but whiny MC

Great plot, interesting world and magic system. Unfortunately the "mentally adult" MC has all the maturity of a 10 year old (e.g. referring to enemies as "stupid jerkface") and loaded with pre-teen angst. There are also endless self-justifications for pretty much every thought or action. I hope that the next book addresses these issues for a more enjoyable read.

It is a good story if a bit odd at moments. I just decided that while the main character was an adult in another world in this one she is in a child’s body and that influenced her mind otherwise the book just doesn’t make sense. Going with that idea I enjoyed the read. It was oddly moralistic at times - what is good and evil? - is a major theme throughout this book. I do plan to read the next book in the series.

Great Book.

Be aware this is a dark fantasy book. And some of the topics covers can get very dark. That being said the book was excellent. The main character was well written and grew appropriately to her circumstances. Overall I enjoyed this book quite a bit will read the next one.

Look Forward to 2

Even though the ending could have been written in a different manner, I will be reading book #2. I am also following along on RR, then read the book on Amazon to support the author on that front. If you enjoy this book, you might want to check out their other series, Salvos.

Great Story!

This is a great story, I'm a personal fan isekai style stories and I'm loving the unique twist this one has. Grammar is really good and the flow of the story also is amazing. Keep up the good work!

I cried so many times... It's a very touching story, full of adversities and learning. Trauma is very constant. There are many aspects that need to be explained. I hope that they are done in next books.

This was good but not great for me. I loved Melas and following her journey was good but overall i just found that it was difficult to keep my attention on the story because it wasn't grabbing me the way that i need it too.
I give this book 6/10 and i will give the next one a go.

A little slow in places

It's not a bad book, it is however somewhat glacial in places, some of the plot is slow to develop. I like the characters though, the goblins and the orc are pretty great.

Good story, badly written

I've read later works by the author that were much better written, so I have hope that the next book will be better. This definitely needs an intense editing. I enjoyed the book, though, and I'll be reading the next one.

Okay

Overall, the story is not terrible. It’s got elements of a good story, but has a few major inconsistencies and lacks good flow/progress. If food, it’d be cheap fast food.

So, 300 pages into it and she’s been dragged around a whole lot, *watched* a bunch of fights, and, uh, stolen a couple of apples? Is she ever going to do anything? I gave up.

Good book

I'll be honest. I didn't like this book much at first. Then the MC really started to grow on me. I'm glad I kept reading. It turned out to be an awesome read.

This one has a failing main character.

The setting is too notch. The world state is amazing, filled with double standards and corruption. This would make for an excellent read it not for the main character. If you left out the part of her remembering who she was, it she were a child, her behavior makes sense and this would be five stars. But so much effort is made to tell the reader of her maturity, that her actions are inconsistent and completely naive. By the end, I had lost all interest in her choices, they were meaningless as she is a pointless character.
