Drowned but kept alive by an immortal curse, Casca Longinus is rescued from his watery hell many years later African villagers who believe the mercenary is a god sent to rescue them. Original.
The first Casca series sequel written by a different named author. (Sadler was commonly known to have ghost writers writing his 22 novels). A good story....certainly not on the same level as the Barbarian (#5), the Sentinel (#9) or even the Mongol (#22) but it still kept my interest.
Oba Otonoshey was quite the creepy villain. Like a white emaciated Ringwraith of Tolkien ruling a African people...but even more horrible because his evil choices are all his own. Not that of a enslaved servant enthralled to the will of Sauron. Casca Rufius Longinus was as always his scarred & stoic, bad-ass self.
Because these stories are not written in a strict chronological fashion, it's always entertaining to try to piece together clues regarding which century Casca finds himself in. He was much later than I expected this time.
An odd start for Dengelegi in the Casca series. Casca is lost at sea and spends some time on the bottom of the ocean trapped by a piece of the ship. He is eventually hauled onto the African coast and his white bodies gets him treated as a god.
So you just a soldier doing your job. You shove a spear tip into the side of this supposed messiah, except he is the real thing. He curses you to wander the earth till his return. Not bad right, immortality and all. Oh but he also curses you to be a soldier forever at war, never to know peace. This is the story of Casca the Roman legionnaire that stabbed Christ. Forever wandering the earth fighting one war after another. Great adventure series. Very recommended
