"Careful what you wish for, sweetheart. You might not like it when you get it."
Another night in a dive bar on a space station he still doesn't call home, and Theo is ready to take a risk. This grizzled space mercenary might be dangerous, and might be just what he needs. No strings, no promises, just fun. Right?
Robin Moray is a storyteller by nature, with a love for realistic characters in fantastical situations and men having complicated emotions. Preferably naked.
If you spot Robin in the wild, try approaching with snacks.
This is a very short read, just the start of something. I bought it on a whim without realising it was a sci-fi sort of story, which I am not a fan of. It was great though. Good start.
I don't dare to rate this. I'll give it the good ol' average 3 stars, even though I am not sure if I would have been able to take more than 30 pages of this.
I am a sucker for sifi with some romance thrown in, but this was porn with some mercenary sifi thrown in. It was only 25 to 30 pages, two thirds of them sex, the rest of it making me hope for some action (it was hinted that they were to meet *gulp* aliens!), but at that point the story was already a wrap up. Bummer. Now I wish I would know if full-length novels by Robin Moray have more story or are mostly a setup for the hot stuff?
Very short story about hooking up with a mercenary. Really captured that sense of being young and not really knowing what you were doing but wanting something more.
2.75⭐, but I'll round it up because it's promising.
I was checking on this author's update on the #Omega Colony series, but there isn't any more books there, so I decided to read this one. Close enough.
I consider this a draft - the story has yet to develop and it has a lot of potential if it will be made into a full-length book eventually, but this short novella itself didn't really impress me.
A bit underwhelming, I didn't like the dialogues and both MMCs didn't have enough page time for me to really feel the magic or the chemistry between them.
Theo, the younger guy, is 19 and feels like he's lost and doesn't really know to do with himself on that particular space station, so he tries to hook up with Sir, a much older scarred space mercenary, and picks him on a whim in a bar. It didn't really feel all that passionate and intense, maybe precisely because the dialogues didn't work for me. The sex was quite good, but again, I couldn't feel the connection.
Maybe if the author decides to make this into a full length book, it'll be right up my alley - space and aliens, but I'd much rather read about the Omega Colony, to be honest.
Very brief, very hot. Definitely erotica, but with enough character and setting to make a satisfying story. Needless to say, I'm hoping for a lot more along these lines...
My only critique of this story is that it's way too short. I'm always hoping for more sci-fi content from Robin Moray, and while I really enjoyed this it just made me hungry for more.
Fun little erotica: inexperienced Theo picks up an older man (a mercenary) for a one-night-stand at a bar on a space station. They have sex and the mercenary invites him to go on a job with him. Doesn't take long for Theo to agree. The story ends more HFN.
Theo is cute and impatient, desperate for more to do in his life. The merc is older and experienced but kind to Theo. I liked the characters.
Need a hot little read to sizzle up your pages? Take a young and impressionable man who is desperate for some action and pair it with a seasoned Mercenary who is more than a little rough around the edges and you have the perfect recipe for some sizzling action. Gasping, aching and a hint of danger make this read one to gobble up right now! Loved every minute - an excellent story told well.
But seriously, I love everything this author writes - and I am desperately hoping she gets back to sci-fi under this pen name. I would absolutely love to read a full-length version of this, and I'm still hoping for more of her Claimed world.
I really enjoyed the new characters and setting Moray introduces her readers to in Making it with the Mercenary. Although at just 30 pages this is more of a teaser and leaves me anxious to find out what’s next for Theo and Angel and wherever they are headed. Fans of Moray’s novel Changed: Mated to the Alien Alpha, should really enjoy this short story starter and will want more of this new series.
The sexytimes are very well done, and I enjoyed the sweet flirting just as much as the heat. The characters and world-building are all likeable, but forgettable. I would absolutely read a full length version of this where there is more room for character development and deeper emotions. Ultimately it feels like the first 20 pages of a novel, instead of an actual "short story."
I love this author's short stories. This one is especially good. Love the glimpse of Theo's character and world. The scene is very hot and it is all an absolute teaser for the kinds of adventures that these two might have. I want more. If this was to test the waters and gauge interest, OMFG am I interested.
From the blurb I expected this encounter to be a little more rough and tumble, but it was surprisingly tender for a hookup (the older man called him “sweetheart”) while still delivering on the hot and heavy parts too. It feels like the start to something very promising and I enjoyed it a lot!
30 pages shouldn't be enough to make you want a story badly and yet I totally do. I want more from Theo and angel and not just because their chemistry was great. Hope this turns into a full length book or maybe even a series.
I wish this were longer, but alas, I must be content with this short story. I loved their chemistry and I think it would be so much fun to see them on adventures together.
A very short story that could be the start to something great (if the author continues with these characters.) The merc reminded me of Han Solo, confident and cocky, but also charming. Theo was young and ready for adventure. It would be fun to see what these two could get up-to.
Quick, sexy read, with a surprising amount of excellent SF worldbuilding considering that is definitely NOT the focus of the story. I'd happily read the continued adventures of these characters if Moray ever returns to this universe.
Perfect. I had no idea what this was, but when I noticed the page count it became obvious. Well done, good world building in between the smut. I'm legit curious where this will go. Wish this were part of a series.
Hot, enjoyable read that made me hope for more in this world. It's very short, but it works completely as written even if it does feel like a teaser for a series to come. *crosses fingers*
This story was so much fun! It was way to short though and now I'm jonesing for a full-length story about these lovely men and whatever adventures come along for them!
