I feel like there is a very specific audience that will resonate with this book and it's probably supposed to be someone with my background (somewhat privileged, probably middle-class, educated, Bangkokian...). It's so bougie and neoliberal it makes me uncomfortable. It's also funny how this book gets praise for presenting "diversity" when its level of diversity is as low as an elite prep school in the US.
It's especially jarring given that it is set in Thailand, but very little about this is Thai. That last arc kind of works.... I wish it was like that throughout. Somehow the author actually managed to turn Thailand into ... I wanted to say a European country but then I'm sure this version does not actually exist.
