Brooke is willing to do just about anything for her boss.

She's got student loans to pay back, and even though being Liz Walker's personal assistant is a demanding job, she needs it.

Brooke's crush on Liz makes it easy to get through those long days running around New York City rescheduling appointments or putting out fires for her.

When Liz caved and got herself a personal assistant a year ago, she never imagined it would work out so well, but when they're mistaken for a couple and presented with a business opportunity, Liz thinks about continuing the charade beyond one night.

It doesn't take long for lines to blur.

What happens when a pretend relationship is full of real feelings?

With Liz's reputation and a payday for Brooke on the line, figuring out how to keep this sham relationship going gets harder and harder.

If you love lesbian fake relationship romances or age gap romances, this book is for you.

3.75 Star - Solid fauxmance

I really liked this book. If you are a fauxmance fan and you have kindle unlimited i would suggest this is a no-brainer read. It's quick, decently written and pretty low angst. When the break-up happens I got pretty f'ing annoyed with Liz but her screw-up is acknowledged enough times that I got over it and was ready to forgive her by the end of the book. I would read this again.

I really enjoyed this, a little bit more even than the previous book from Carol Wyatt that I read. However at around 200 pages, this is a novella that really wants to be a novel. I know from my own writing experience how sometimes stories fall between novella length and novel length, so I don't mean to be too critical, especially for a story whose characters and journey I greatly enjoyed 😀.

In the previous book I read, the author handled the third act reversal really well; that was less so the case here, I felt. I know it's a tricky balance to get right, and I know some readers don't mind and that some readers greatly enjoy third act reversals.

But overall, this is a super age gap, boss/employee romance. Highly recommended 😀

Lovely

I enjoyed this story rich lonely Liz finally notices her PA Brooke after a year of working together. What follows is contract where Brooke becomes Liz's fake girlfriend that's until they both realize that it's not so fake after all. Enjoy because I did!!!

No one does age gap better than Carol Wyatt

I have never read a story by this author that I did not throughly enjoy. I wish I could give it a 1000 stars. She gets it right every time. Strong storyline, believable characters and great chemistry. If I could say anything to her, I would say thank you so much for your attention to detail and keep em coming.

I read this as part of a collection of Wyatt’s books, and it was hands down my least favorite (I really liked some of the others, especially Manhattan Money). I just could not get over Liz’s “screw-up” as someone else called it. (I will discuss more/possible trigger warning for book below, so don’t read the second paragraph if you don’t want sort-of spoilers.) What she did and how she acted after is just so many levels of not ok. Brooke deserved better, and forgave her far too easily in my opinion. There needed to be a LOT more reflection and groveling from Liz before I could accept their HEA. I usually love fauxmance, but something about this set-up felt off to me, even before Liz did her “screw-up.”

Trigger warning I would maybe add: date rape drugs, though thank god no rape actually occurs. The way the author handles the issue just felt so… inadequate? Blasé? Like it was there as a major plot point, but it felt to me like the emotions — the horror and trauma — of that happening to someone was just brushed over. I dunno, I guess I just don’t like something like this being used in a story for plot drama but without adequately dealing with the emotional drama. Liz abandons Brooke in a foreign country where Brooke knows no one while she’s passed out after being slipped a date rape drug at an event (at least she got her back to their hotel room first, I will give her points for that) because she assumed Brooke had gotten really drunk for a whopping SECOND time in the story and didn’t want to deal with it. She then proceeded to ignore, blow off, and avoid Brooke for a month. And she told herself she was doing this because she didn’t want to deal with BROOKE’s immaturity. 🙄 When Liz finally finds out what actually happened — in the most dramatic way possible, of course — she feels sick and upset and goes to apologize, but it ends being BROOKE who is comforting LIZ for feeling like an awful person even though THE BAD THING HAPPENED TO BROOKE and Liz should be groveling for forgiveness and trying to offer comfort TO BROOKE. And Brook’s all like “it’s fine, I’m fine, let’s just forget about it!” NO. Just… NO. You’re NOT fine, this RELATIONSHIP is not “fine.” One partner doesn’t get to act terribly to the other and then be easily forgiven without really discussing what happened. And someone who was drugged and then ghosted by the person they needed comfort from doesn’t just go “Eh, I wasn’t actually raped, so no big deal! And it’s also toootally fine that my girlfriend disappeared while I was unconscious and then didn’t answer my calls so that I could tell her I was drugged!” Ugh, this turned into a much longer rant than I intended because thinking about the whole thing just seriously pissed me off again. Anyhoo… If these sound like things that would upset you too, I recommend giving this book a pass. 😅

I liked this story. Solid 3*.
But I don't understand why its on amazon like a new story published February 13th 2021. Because by chapter 3 I realised I've already read this one before some time back.

Fantastic read

This by far was one of the best books I have read. The romance between Liz and Brooke and the love scene brought the book to life. I couldn’t put the book down. I would highly recommend this book and Carol Wyatts’ books.

One of the things I do to help me remember to review the books I've read is I keep them around until I review them. So they stick in my Kindle or Audible or on my actual bookshelf until then. An unfortunate side effect is that some books have fallen into an unfortunate limbo that puts a very small amount of pressure on me that I mostly ignore.

Well, I need the space, if only emotionally, so I'm creating this little message and will put it on all the books as I clear them out. Most of these are dnfs that happened by me putting the book down and not having enough oomph to pick them back up again. One or two I actually finished but ran out of oomph to say anything useful about them.

I apologize for the placeholder review, but it's the best I can do. Or the least, at any rate...

Liz needs help!

Brooke is a personal assistant for Liz, who needs her to pretend to be her girlfriend for a big businesses opportunity and to be shown off to her ex. The contract Brooke signs allows her to pay off her student loans.

The plot started out great but then sort of fizzled. I loved the character of Brooke, but I could not relate to her boss Liz at all. Leaving Brooke alone in a foreign country was unacceptable. Brooke's forgiveness and the ending came way too fast. It should have been a leisurely stroll, not a sprint to the finish line. This story has so much more potential. Sorry to say, it's not my favorite Carol Wyatt book!

Brooke is the personal assistant for real estate developer Liz. When the boss invites her to an evening event as a friendly plus one they are mistaken as a couple by Liz's ex. Liz ask Brooke to fake a relationship for six months to get through some other events that involve the ex. It is a way to make extra money to pay off student loans and it doesn't hurt that Brooke has a crush on the boss. There is a lot of honest communication as they get to know each other. Liz is very cautious about actually becoming involved with an employee as she has been burned by that before.

WOW!

Brooke has a big crush on her older boss Liz who seems oblivious to her paralegal’s adoration. Liz needs a girlfriend to enhance a business opportunity and when she explains it to Brooke, who agrees, it’s the beginning of a journey to love. I loved Liz and Brooke and their relationship ups and downs.

I really liked this until the angst and then it kind of fell apart for me. I get that it is a shorter book, but I can't go for instant forgiveness especially for this kind of "mistake". Book 2 in the collection.

Age-gap HEA

Believable characters in a somewhat artificial situation make for a sweet romance. Well written and engrossingly enjoyable.

I really like the relationship and the way it develops between Liz and Brooke. It’s a quick, light read without much drama. That being said, I felt it was lacking in detail and moved a bit quick. This caused some moments that felt disingenuous between the characters.

There were a few mistakes and the background characters (the friends, the ex) felt like they didn’t serve much purpose. There wasn’t a lot of emotional depth once you found out what happened between Heather and Liz or with Brooke. Those were moments that could’ve really turned into something but didn’t. They were glossed over to move the story along.

Overall, it’s a good read and I’ve read it more than once. Is it one of my favorites? Not particularly. But it’s a nice start when I want to get back into the reading groove, and Carol Wyatt is one of my favorite authors for this purpose.
