Vinsor: Vinsor thinks all he has to do is kill the witch that turned him into a demon. As soon as he strikes her down, the real problem appears in an explosion of magic. Jill is the perfect replica of the witch, and Vinsor has the misfortune of becoming her captor.
As if Jill's insane babbling wasn't bad enough, Vinsor receives orders to make her fall in love with him. He can change Jill's emotions with one touch. But to do such an awful thing, even to his enemy? He can't disobey orders, but perhaps he can resist using his powers for it. Except the mind-reading, of course. Although, reading her mind might prove dangerous to his sanity.
Jill: Jill landed in hell. A world without coffee and showers must be hell. A world without sterile bandages and antibiotics is a special kind of hell reserved for ICU nurses. At least she found her cat. Oh, yeah, and the resident demon cleans up well. She might even forgive him for kidnapping her.
Now, if only she can find a way to get home. Not permanently, of course. Jill only needs to smuggle meds, guns, coffee, and a comfortable mattress into the fantasy world. And a few jackets. And a car. Oh, yeah, and Vinsor needs new clothes.
Will shopping therapy be enough to stop Jill from strangling her patients? And what is up with Vinsor following every order given to him?
My life is a crossbreed of a disaster documentary and a thriller. I moved a lot and often until I finally settled in my sixth country. Things eventually calmed down… sort of. Come on, I can’t have a peaceful life. I have to, at least, get a fixer-upper from hell with neighbors that keep things interesting. If I go a whole month without my foot going through the floor or an old, intoxicated lady asking me if I want a dead cat in a box (there was no dead cat. She hallucinated it), then it won’t be my life.
I could probably write a memoir, but who would believe this crap?
IN A WORLD WITHOUT COFFEE is the first book in the Doctors Without Boundaries series, and we are sucked into a fantasy world where medicine (plus other things) are not as 'advanced' as here on Earth. Jill is a nurse who lives on coffee. Vin is a demon who has never had it. Are these a match made in heaven or hell?
The story and development between Jill and Vin was very well laid out, with worries and concerns being made plain, even if it was only internally. The story moves along at a fair pace, with Jill and Vin ably supported by a great cast of characters that I want to hear more about.
The ending was a bit abrupt although any conflicts between Jill and Vin have been cleared up. There is only one 'moment' in the story and it does help to move the story along.
I still have unanswered questions about issues in this first book, but as I've said, I also want to know more about the other characters. In other words, I am looking forward to continuing with this series. Definitely recommended by me.

This was better than expected. I thought it was just going to be silly. It ended up being a decent story with great characters. Vin and Jill made a great couple. The other characters were interesting and I hope to find out more about them in the next books.

I really loved the concept of the book! Although, I don’t really want to imagine a world without coffee 😂 It was sort of modern fantasy genre, which I really enjoyed, I think it took the storyline to another level as I was able to connect with it a bit more. I did find some parts to be a bit abrupt and rushed but overall it was a good an easy read!
This author was new to me, but the book was free and said “no cliffhanger.” So I thought I’d give it a try and hopefully find someone new. Unfortunately, this book didn’t feel resolved to me at the end. I guess technically it wasn’t a cliffhanger in that relationship was essentially resolved, but none of the other issues were. Their long-term safety and well-being still seemed very much a work in progress when the book just ended. It was an enjoyable read and had humorous moments before then, but I’m not sure about finishing the series at this point. If all of the endings are so abrupt that I have to buy the next book to essentially get the end of the current one, I want to see how much it’s going to cost (both time and money) first. The series seems pretty interconnected and not standalones.
This book was easy to read and kept me interested until the end. It was funny and quirky. However I had issues with practically every decision made by not just the main character but all of the support characters as well. It just didn't make sense. I kept waiting for important details that never came, wondering if the main character would ever realize how wrong she was and why it would never work. There were also moments where the author was trying to build tension but the actions were so confusing that the tension never built. I'm giving this book 3 stars because despite all of this, I quickly read the entire book, I even read the sneak peak for the next book, something I never do. If nothing else that has to mean something. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Vinsor seriously thought he'd finally stopped a dangerous foe only to realize something wasn't quite right. And the unsuspecting Jill who thought she'd landed in some strange B-movie with weird props and characters who reminded her of overly rude cabbies from the big apple. Jill was still reeling from all the chaotic events that kept her on her toes even as she used her wickedly sharp tongue to her keep her apparent hallucination on there toes. And to the dismay of one equally frazzled Vinsor still trying to understand why she looked like the most evil being ever but now was so utterly different. Jill waited until she thought it was safe to venture out she had to find her four-legged buddy and no one was going to stop her. Oh all the things to name an animal was after an all together different species. I wasn't sure I understood him at first but then his awful words started to sink in and honestly the last thing any suffering addict wants to hear you don't have what your body screaming at you to feed it and the worse part was Vinsor didn't have a clue made it even worse. As someone in my profession I was truly stumped by the lack of everything I'd been so accustomed to using while racking my brain trying to figure out alternatives. While Jill was still trying to wrap her mind around the fact she was clearly in some alternative reality. Although he was growing use to her odd words and phrases there were moments he needed her to explain so he could appreciate the insult being hurled. Nevertheless he was facing quite a conundrum his Over Lord had given him a command to pursue the woman he'd charged with watching but he still couldn't bring himself to behave in such a dastardly manner. However Jill wasn't about to let the perfect opportunity pass her by after all she wasn't the one with the intimacy problems and she had zero regrets in knocking boots with a gorgeous demon like him. With their plans firmly in place both of them knew the chances they were taking but the outcome totally worth the risks. Okay so this just might be the most awkward moments in my life and I haven't even thought how I was going to explain the hot dude in a awesome vest to my best friend. Vinsor was in total awe and shock as he quickly looked at everything he'd honestly never seen such things. But the one thing she really couldn't pass up was feeding one of her addiction and that meant brewing a pot of liquid gold. And yep she knew trying to explain the how's and why's would be awkward, maybe a little weird, and far fetch but she had to try. Jill had a list of multiple things she needed to accomplish before they ran out of time because they couldn't fail to return. Still there were many unforeseen problems to deal with one after another but that didn't stop them from aiding those who needed. And yeah Vinsor realized he should have been more forth coming when he tried to explain his predicament with his Over Lord. Because now it had seriously came back to bite him and not in a good way. There was plenty of danger all around them and when she tried to help someone she'd though needed it only it didn't go quite as she'd planned. Even thought she'd had some serious issues about her own feelings and tons of doubts there was no way she was letting him make the final decision for her.

This book was brilliant, I didn’t know what I was getting into when I started it but I truely enjoyed it.
The story starts off with Vinsor finally destroying the evil witch that cursed him, only to discover moments later that she is standing in front of him once again, but she is wearing strange clothes.
Jill finds herself transported to a strange world, in the middle of a battle and people are after her. To make matters worse, her cat has run off, this world has inadequate health care and the worst thing of all, no coffee.
I really liked this story, it was fun, a little crazy and Jill has a serious caffeine addiction. I liked how Vinsor and Jill have to work to understand and learn about each other and how their worlds worked. I also liked how their relationship progressed through the story.
If you like fantasy stories filled with humour, great characters, battles, magic and world jumping, this book is for you.
I really enjoyed this story and I am hoping there is more in this series because I would love to see where it goes.
This book drew me in and really held my attention and kept me entertained the whole way through. It is my first read by the author but will definitely not be my last. Jill is a nurse going about her business when she is suddenly transported to another world and time and let’s just say it could not be any different to modern day New York. I adored Vinsor and was soon crushing on him madly. He was turned into a demon by a wicked witch and his hope was that the curse would be broken when he ended her life. Instead he got crazy cat lady Jill. They are both soon on a journey where they will be teaching each other and learning from each other all while having to deal with politics and an unwanted but undeniable attraction towards each other. The characters are flawlessly crafted and I really enjoyed their story
This book started out hilarious with Jill's attempts to acclimate to Vin's world and his attempts to understand her figures of speech, etc. Because of their connection, the humor, and the unique aspects of world building, this started as a strong 4 stars. Then at about 75% the author sent Vin and Jill back to the human world and dedicated two chapters to shopping for supplies to take back to Vin's world. After that, the whole story changed into avoiding Lord Dralik and the war unless they were rescuing soldiers.
The ending was an HEA for Vin and Jill, but the new plot introduced at the 75-80% mark of staying undetected by Lord Dralik was not resolved.
All in all it was a good story; however, I was satisfied with Jill and Vin's HEA and won't be reading the subsequent books.
This was a very fun read! I could not stop reading until I had finished this book in one sitting. This book will keep you hooked from the first page. Great and interesting characters, lots of humor and a good romance. The world building was well done without explanations becoming too heavy or boring. I did notice some typos and grammatical errors in the book, but it wasn't frequent enough to take away from the story. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes the portal type genres, fantasy, romance, and humor nicely packaged together! As soon as I finished this book I immediately was looking into the next book in this series. Can't wait to read book 2!
I received this book through Voracious Readers and have provided an honest review.
I was looking to read something a little different and this definitely met that criteria. I was a bit unsure when I first started reading because I couldn't really see where this story was going. I do enjoy paranormal romance but this story had a bit more of a fantasy spin then I'm used to. The more I read, the more I became invested in the characters. The story is out there and the author did a pretty good job of explaining how the connection between the two dimensions worked. I like the props to science, because science is awesome. I am still a little lost on the connection between Jill and Witch as well as Vin and how he became a demon. Overall I think it was a good read, entertaining for sure.

I read a different book in this series first. It was M/M. Silly fantasy romances are my jam, so I decided to pick up book 1, where the protagonist is good friends with a gay man. I was pretty shocked when this girl started spouting gay slurs.
I don't think the author meant to portray her heroine as homophobic, but calling an effeminate man you don't like a "fairy" or "fruitcake" is insensitive, ineffective and inappropriate. I suspect it was meant to be funny, since it led to misunderstanding, but it wasn't.
The story did have some funny moments, and you can see the beginnings of Doctors Without Boundaries. If the homophobia bugs you, you can definitely skip this book and still enjoy the others.
First let me say that the cover of the book I read is not the cover available here on Goodreads. It is a much better cover design and if I’d seen the cover in Goodreads I would’ve not been interested in reading this book at all. But, luckily, I had the more appealing cover and so I read this book. It was a lot different from what I expected but in a good way. It kept me reading and I’ve already acquired a couple more books in this series. This book was quirky and fun and the main characters were very likeable. I do recommend reading this book if you want a light read but also one that keeps you wanting to read more.
This is an enjoyable paranormal comedy. I was hoping with all my heart that it was just joking about the loss of coffee. Believe me, I could empathize with Jill about even contemplating life without coffee or showers!
The story line was fun, and I loved both Jill and Vinsor. Their interactions with each other were perfect and the humor made the reader enjoy the crazy journey the two of them were on to find their HEA. Grab your copy and let this entertaining story keep you chuckling and wanting more!
3.5 stars So, idk why but this read was more difficult for me to get into. While overall I think it was well written and cute, I didn't find the humor as witty and well as funny as I think it was meant to be. I did however love the storyline idea and especially the characters, both main characters Vin and Jill but also secondary characters Ricci and Nasi. Good character development and growth. Overall I think this was a cute, fun read.

The book was free and never read this author before so I wanted to give it a try. It was interesting. A tad confusing to follow certain aspects for me. The ending was very abrupt and literally left you hanging. I wouldn't call it a cliff hanger since it's like someone stopped talking in mid sentence. Perhaps that is the author's version of a cliffhanger. I would not buy the second book just to get the ending of the first book.
Quite well-written, although I do have some problems with the ethical side of things. The alternate world had not advanced as far as our world so, travelling between the two worlds, Jill brings in a lot of technology that far surpasses theirs. Yes, the need for medicine was fairly clear, but when she was contemplating bringing back an electric car, that was too much. This is very colonial in its approach. Other than that, ie joyed the story and would be happy to read more.
Ok, I will admit it was the title that drew me in! I had no intention of reading the rest of the series but here I am buying the second one before I finish the first. This book is amazing and I loved it uniqueness and the way it just kept flowing. The idea of what to take to another world was intriguing and I couldn’t put the book down. Thank you to the author for giving me something this enjoyable to read. Don’t stop!
This is a well written book with strong characters in Vinsor and Jill. It's an entertaining story with tons of humor. The author brings vividly painted scenes and weaves a great paranormal comedy. I loved this book and would recommend reading.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Fantasy paranormal romance read that was funny, was well-written, and catching. It's a parallel world to us with magic, demons, and not as advance. Vinsor was turned into a demon by an evil witch, Jill is said witch's clone that lands in a world that seems like a bad dream.

This is a well written story. Very amusing and keeps you wondering what is going to happen. Jill basically is teleported to the Dark Ages in a parallel universe. I loved how she eventually accepted where she was and tried to do things. It will be fun to see what happens next.
OMG! Such a great premise and so enjoyable! Lots of giggles with language misunderstandings and lots of love and hate to go round. Can't wait to see how things shake out in further books. There's an Elf and a Lord I want to see them get their comeuppance. Viva Is Revolution!
This is book one in the doctors without boundaries series. It is a fantasy paranormal romance. The storyline has drama, secrets conflict and crazy events.

Set aside reality and just enjoy this story of time-travel, magic, and romance. Highly entertaining - I enjoyed every minute of reading it. I will definitely be looking for the next books in this series.
This a beautifully written and fast paced story that captivated me from the start. The storyline is entertaining, and action packed. The characters are wonderful. Cannot wait for the next book in this series.
Although I am not so sure about no coffee - how would they ever develop? Great imaginative story. Fabulous world building. But no coffee - oh the horror !!,
