Candace Wright is grateful for her position as a columnist for The Nashville Daily Times but the journalist in her wants to write about more than just relationships. When given the chance to prove herself, she hopes that going undercover to write about one of football's star players will take her career to the next level. Since entering the league, Maverick Frost has been a top Cornerback with a reputation that rivals his talent. Now at the prime of his career, he is focused on winning a championship and making a difference in the community– until Candace "White" enters his life. Can a relationship built on a foundation of deceit survive?
I like to eat Peanut M&M’s mixed with movie popcorn and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is my kryptonite. I enjoy writing stories about flawed women who find their place in the world after overcoming obstacles. I believe strongly that books have the power to heal as much as they entertain.
When I’m not writing, you can find me buried in a book, watching a basketball game, or spending time with my family.
How to Get a Baller in 90 Days by Danesha Little is about journalist Candace Wright and football player Maverick Frost. Candace is looking for a promotion at work so she brainstorms an idea with her best friends to write something that will take her to the next level professionally. Maverick is a star NFL player and let’s be real plenty of women wanna know how to catch a baller! It doesn’t help that he’s been making waves recently speaking out against police brutality and racial discrimination. Candace’s boss wants the scoop on his recent stance making him the perfect target for Candace’s pitch. I’m against playing with unsuspecting people’s emotions so the entire time I was like girllll don’t do this 👀! And once Candace and Maverick get to know one another I’m even more against it. Maverick is so sweet, their first date is one for the books (pun intended) 🥰 He really opens himself up to her! When someone opens themselves up to you it’s hard for you not to do the same, so it’s no surprise that Candace has a hard time keeping herself closed off to Maverick. Her feelings bring on a next set of issues but you’ll have to read to find out more 😉 This is a cute read, it’s giving early 2000s romantic movie vibes. However, please be aware serious topics are briefly discussed such as police brutality and the pandemic. At times, I had to pause because it took me back to last summer.
This was a cute story. I really loved Maverick’s character- he was very judged for his off the field actions. The media was wrong about him. While I didn’t agree with all that Candace did, it was clear that she wanted him. They fell really fast for each other. The ending had me fighting the tears, the proposal was everything!
Let me start off with what I didn't like... that it took me so long to read this!!! I could just bop my head against the wall. Ok.. this was a sweet simple story that presented you with a current situation (Covid), the difficulties of dating(anytime), and the many issues of trust, falling in love and believing you're worthy of good things. Candace just wanted to write an article that would get her skills recognized as more than an advice columnist. Maverick wasn't looking to fall in love, but as you know, what we want and the order they fall in are not ours to control. The really lovely thing about this book, is the writing style. So positive and the use of words to express the emotions of her characters. Candace felt like a girlfriend and her support system was to tier. Danesha Little was a new to me writer, she will now be in my library.
All though I expected for this story to mirror the movie “How to get a man in ten days” I had a hard time connecting to the characters. With that being one of my favorite movies I was excited to Read this book. I was expecting for the author the put a twist in the storyline so I wouldn’t know to expect, but the story fell short.
This was really good! I enjoyed them getting back together at the end the most, and I appreciate the depiction of covid things and definitely the BLM. I like how Candace was able to make her mistake and also be able to be right in her mistake as well. It was a refreshing read!

From the moment Candace met Maverick I knew she shouldn’t have gone along with her plan. I kept absorbing this book because I couldn’t wait for the other shoe to drop. Maverick was a good man who was dedicated to the game of football and taking care of his mother and sister. He didn’t deserve someone to infiltrated his life for their personal gain. My issue with her was that she continued to say she never went into the situation to hurt him, but honestly what positive outcome would come about for Maverick and everything that he was trying to bring awareness by her doing a fluff piece? That’s the part she didn’t realize and never took into consideration. As the days go by, Candace finally realize that Maverick isn’t the guy that the public views him as and it finally registered to her that she was making a mistake. Honestly I would have been fine if Maverick never spoke to Candace ever again. I couldn’t get with it and was 100% on Mavericks side even till the very last page. Overall this book was good. I wouldn’t mind getting more of Maverick.. I guess Candace too🙄😂. Great read!
Such a cute story that details the journey of a relationship that doesn't play out they way it was initially planned out.
I liked that Maverick and Candace actually did not need a investigative story to actually develop feelings for one another. Everything about their interactions with one another was realistic, organic and refreshing. Even the awkward parts were realistic.
At the end of the day, we know there is no real game plan mapped out on how to get an athlete (at least I hope there's not) but it actually depends on the two people involved and what they are willing to do to be there for one another and fight for what they want.
I was floored at just how clumsy Candace was and found myself being embarrassed for her. Maverick was a sweetheart for not being so put off by it. He was actually taken by it.
I enjoyed this side of the author's writing style.
There's only few writers that can really pull you in. MS. Little does it every time. I felt like I was watching a movie. Maverick and Candace really brought the story to life. Candace was so clumsy ,I was dying from second hand embarrassment. Lol. I was like girl not in front of him. I liked that Maverick blew past all her expectations of what she thought "a athlete" suppose to be. Maverick was such a gentlemen, he was so much more than just an athlete. In reality we do that now, social media has condition us to think everyone is this and that. But we forget we are real people, we are more complex than we think. As for my black brothers and sisters we are so strong but I cry sometimes because its hard to be strong. Thank you MS. Little.
When an idea pops in your head and you thought you had it all planned out. You imagine the perfect story coming together until emotions are involved and feelings that you thought was impossible are now possible. What do you do? Who do you choose? Is it worth the risk? That's the choice that Candice is now face with. Career over love are the choices. A planned encounter turns into a surprise relationship and what her intentions were is not so easy when her heart meets the soul of Maverick. The perfect ending you predicted is not so perfect.
This author is one of my favorites for her storytelling and way she captures the souls of her characters. Really enjoyed this book and you will too. Bravo Danesha Little Bravo 👏.
This was a great read. This book was certainly different from Danesha Little's normal work but she delivered 🔥🔥🔥nonetheless. For complete strangers Maverick and Candace's chemistry was undeniable. It started under false pretence but then love snucked in unexpectedly. I loved how the story flowed as well as how the current social issues we are facing were highlighted. Worth the read!!
This was my first time reading a novel by Danesha Little and hopefully it won’t be my last!! Maverick and Candice were two imperfect people that found love in an interesting way! I love how real the character’s emotions felt... not just warm and fuzzy because it’s a romance. So Relatable it had me rooting for Candice’s redemption and Maverick releasing his stubbornness!!!
Reading Candace and Maverick 's journey was like watching two friends meet and fall in love. .... Just with the backdrop of real life happening in the background. It was witty and sexy with a dash of comic relief. I was literally laughing out loud and screaming at my Kindle. This was such a great read.
This story was lighter than the typical Danesha Little read. But even while there were a lot of LOL moments, she still managed to shine a spotlight on quite a few topics that are prevalent in our current times. Candace and Maverick may have gotten together under false pretenses, but their chemistry was undeniable!
Who would think those two things would go together? What started out as an experiment turned into a great love story. Loved the quirkiness of Candace and the social awareness of Maverick. A light hearted Romance with a deeper meaning. An overall good read.
Every book I pick up by Danesha Little brings a bit of happiness to my life. The stories she weaves bring well developed characters that you can connect with. The tie in to current events also add an appeal that you don't find in many other books. I can't wait for her next release!
Between the cover and the synopsis I was all in. I love how this book reflect what we are currently experiencing in the world. Also, for once the guy is not the one who is at fault in the story. I ❤️ this story it was different from what we typically see in books. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Maverick and Candace are two strangers who “accidentally” meet. A professional athlete and a journalist is cliche’, but the friendship is real. Maverick and Candace are living the life until reality sets in. Read about these two. Awesome story.
I love love, especially that unexpected love that sneaks up on you when you least expect it to. I enjoyed reading this book! The flow and pacing allowed you to become submerged in Maverick and Candace's journey!
This is not this author’s best book by far, 3.5 stars is really what I would give this book. I guess it needed a little more substance to it. It really didn’t move me much.
Wow. Every single Danesha Little book I've read is always amazing so I'm not surprised that this was amazing as well. Your talent is greatly appreciated and I hope to read more.
What I love most about this author an her work is her character development. She really breathes life into them and I feel like they are so real as they take us on a journey of their emotions. Maverick and Candace came together in such an untraditional way!
Loved everything about this book it definitely reminds me of how to lose a guy in ten days but with more action and a great twist going on. I loved maverick and Candace!
Super cute but extremely predictable love story. For once it would be nice to see the main character do the right thing before it blows up in their face. 🤣 There were some wonderful funny moments!
Loved the story! Candace and Maverick’s chemistry was so evident and the story was so well written, very enjoyable weekend read! Another good one from this author!!!
