Seriously funny in the most macabre way!

Another horrific crime but there were so many laughs in this one. The names :) …where does he come up with them - definitely not a read if you’re easily offended. For everyone else - just brilliant.

The Epilogue has me lining Book 12 up immediately.

What a ride!

This series fast became my favorite after the first couple of books, but I'm really impressed with how the author has been able to keep up the momentum and churn out hit after hit. An Isolated Incident kept true to the fast pace of the rest and had me gritting my teeth and cackling out loud as usual. The whole team is back again, and this was another one of those cases where you really can't figure out what happened. Don't want to give any of the story away, just want to say if you've been reading up to this point, enjoy the ride! Highly enjoyable read, can't wait for the next!!!

An Isolated Incident is book eleven in the DCI Logan Crime Thrillers series by J. D. Kirk. One night in a remote area of Glen Coe, a family of four was murdered. DCI Jack Logan and his team caught the case. At first, there was no reason for the slaughter until DCI Jack Logan recognises one of the victims. However, this caused DCI Jack Logan to go back to Glasgow, his old stamping ground, to find the answers to the murders. The readers of An Isolated Incident will continue to follow DCI Jack Logan to find out the answers.

An Isolated Incident is another fantastic addition to this excellent series. I had no trouble engaging with the plot of this book. I love the way J. D. Kirk portrayed her characters and their interaction with each other throughout this book. An Isolated Incident is well written and researched by J. D. Kirk. I like the way J. D. Kirk describes the settings of An Isolated Incident that allowed me to imagine been part of the book's plot.

The readers of An Isolated Incident will learn about the Scottish light entertainment industry and the consequences when the wrong short of people became involved in the industry. Also, the readers of An Isolated Incident will learn about the importance of men having regular medical checks.

I recommend this book.

Another thrilling and fast adventure with Logan and his team. A superb read and a captivating plot mixed with the usual patter and great humour.

A guest appearance from Hoon adds to the danger and I loved his interview technique!!! I look forward to his own book later this year.

I have become attached to the characters and really enjoy JD Kirk's writing and consume them with great delight. I am already looking forward to the next one!

I hope that someone picks the books up for Tv or radio as it would be very good.

Utter tripe. Dreadful characters in ridiculous settings that are unbelievable. Hoon is beyond ridiculous with his foul mouth and the audio narration is frankly dreadful as the accents and tone make all players sound like cretins. No sympathy or interest in the characters and much of the word count is filled up with dross. How this writer gets so many good reviews is way beyond me! Logan is a buffoon so suspend your disbelief if you even get passed chapter 6. I couldn’t and asked for a refund. I do wish there were more genuine reviewers out there these days. This penchant for heaving 5 star reviews upon everything is simply tiresome and misleading.

Not my favorite

Maybe I've just read too many in a row but this one while good just didn't hold my interest. I would like to know what happened to the little punk in it, but probably won't until a future book. Love the Forde and Moira hostile friendship thing. Its kind of funny. And Tyler and his health was kind of sad. But hopefully all will be well in the next story. And it looks like little Olivia is going to have some trouble. I hope she does the right thing. I hate that she has turned to crime. She is only 13 but I guess you learn what you live. If I were her I'd go to the police pronto. We will see.

I used this metaphor in another review, but I’m going to use it again – An Isolated Incident had me chortling and snorting like a farting pig – make what you will of that delightful imagery.
The beauty of Kirk’s work is partly in his dialogue – which is hilarious, appropriate and moves the plot along at a rate of knots whilst revealing so much about the characters – and partly in his characterisation- his team are so individual, each with their own wee idiosyncrasies and as the series progresses, it really allows the reader to invest themselves in the story.
The balance between gritty Tartan noir, humour and insight inot the characters is what makes this series work so well for me. Through the course of the novel each character is given their own contribution and their own chance to shine and I love that. Despite the darkness, there is hop and humanity and strong friendships which make An Isolated Incident a five * read.
JD Kirk’s DCI Jack Logan books are not for those opposed to swearing in crime fiction. However, I think anyone who avoids them for that reason is doing themselves a huge disservice.

An Isolated Incident is Book 11 in the DCI Logan series by JD Kirk and once again it is an outstanding book. This time a family of four are murdered in their holiday home and DCI Logan and his team have to solve the murders and deal with much more besides.
This storyline deals with murder, kidnapping, gang violence and cancer with an irreverent humour and Hoon’s language, all crammed into “an isolated incident.”
Highly recommended.

Quite good

Just not up to a good authors usual standard. The reintroduction of an objectionable character named Hoon did nothing to enhance my view. The author is has also decided to make Hoon the main character in his recent work...I won’t be reading ! It’s easy to read foul mouthed, unfunny stuff elsewhere.

After a home invasion in the remote wilds of Glen Coe leaves a family of four brutally murdered - two adults and two children - DCI Jack Logan and his team are brought in to lead the manhunt. One of the victims is one half of a legendary 1980s Glasgow-based comedy double act, Neeps and Tatties. To find out who killed Archie Tatties and his family, Logan will have to enter the seedy world of Scottish light entertainment.

I love these books - fantastic dialogue - and am reading them in order. This is pretty essential as various storylines relating to the fabulous characters flow through each book in the series.

Excellent!

Another thrilling, fast paved investigation! A family of 4 are murdered in their vacation rental in the high no motive, no evidence, no suspects! D C I Logan and his team relocate to area near murder. The hunt is on, with suspect after a suspect not the murderer. Old memories, friends, and enemies are encountered by Jack Logan and must be faced!

A fast flowing crime thriller with a brilliant plot and plenty of Scottish humour. I feel my reviews of these books are all starting to sound the same as they are really good fun, light hearted and also serious at the right times.

”For the love of Christ, I’m surrounded by bloody infants.” - DCI Jack Logan

As always the character development is always entertaining and never in excess. I love the fact that they constantly evolve with each book and each storyline is something you can relate to. The magical views of Scotland I imagine in my head from Kirk’s descriptions is pretty fantastic. I prefer not to guess who the murder is but go with the flow of the story and see where it takes me, but there are subtle clues there for those that do..

”I’m a Detective Chief Inspector of the bloody polis. They don’t give that out in boxes of cornflakes, you know?” - DCI Jack Logan

To sum up another very entertaining and enjoyable story with believable characters and a fantastic storyline. I love the way Kirk tells the story he manages to get down to the business of solving murders while injecting humour at just the right time.

I've come to love the books about Detective Chief Inspector Logan. I love how his team is described and how the characters work so well together. And I love that eventhough the plot is about cruelty of human kind and murders and loss there are always moments in all the books about this team that make me laugh. Can't wait for the next one

Another great story in an excellent series! This is the fifteenth volume from J.D. Kirk that I have read in the last few months. I have enjoyed all that I have now read to date, the first 11 in the DCI Logan series and also the first 3 in the Robert Hoon series, as well as stand alone VIP exclusive short story. I picked the first for a few reasons, but mainly because authors Alex Smith and JE Mayhew have both recommended the author and series. I am a big fan of Smith’s DCI Kett novels and Mayhew’s DCI Will Blake Series. I had no idea how addictive Kirk’s books would be. Like Mayhew and Smith, Kirk publishes under various names. Kirk publishes children books as Barry Hutchison, and other adult fiction as Barry J. Hutchison. He is coming up on 175 books across the three pen names. If I had known that or I might not have picked up this first one. Friends call me a ‘completionist’ in that when I find an author I like, I try to read everything they have published. For now I will try and read the remaining books published as Kirk.

The description of this novel is:

“Do you know who's knocking at your door?

After a violent home invasion in the remote wilds of Glen Coe leaves a family of four dead, DCI Jack Logan and his team are brought in to lead the manhunt.

But, when one of the victims is revealed to be one half of legendary 1980s Glasgow-based comedy double act, ‘Neeps & Tatties’, Logan is forced to leave the Highlands and head back to his old stomping ground.

He may have spent his career dealing with the worst humanity has to offer, but to find out who killed Archie Tatties and his family, Logan will have to confront his most terrifying challenge yet - the seedy world of Scottish light entertainment.

An Isolated Incident is the eleventh book in JD Kirk’s internationally bestselling DCI Logan crime fiction series. Perfect for fans of Chris Brookmyre, Stuart Macbride, and Alex Smith.”

In these stories often the murders are gruesome. The humour is dark. And the Scottish temperament comes out from several different characters. This case is no different, in some ways it is worse, a case of a quadruple homicide a family, husband, wife, and two young children. And even for Loagn the cases with Children are harder. That being said the characters are written wonderfully. You can’t but enjoy Logan and his interactions with his team and even the new Chief Superintendent. Robert Hoon former Chief Superintendent makes a few appearances. The crime in this story is very dark. And because of the fame of the man, the team is looking for a deep motive. One of the team members is dealing with a cancer diagnosis. Logan is back in Glasgow following leads; this puts him in contact with an old flame. And others from his past. He pursues a few avenues of inquiry. We get a deeper look into Logan’s mind and learn more about his past.

This is a great read in an excellent series. The two series written under the pen name J.D. Kirk are definitely Scottish Mysteries, and I can see the comparisons with both Smith and Mayhew’s works. Every time I finish a book by Kirk it takes willpower not to just pick up the next one and keep going. I can state that I will be reading all the DCI Logan books and the Robert Hoon Series as well. And Kirk has now hinted at a new series once the Hood quadrilogy wraps up. I know I will be reading all the books published buy this author under this name, and am therefore looking forward to that new series. Once caught up in this series branching out into his other works. I love that the stories are set in Scotland! This book and series would be great reads for fans of Jack Reacher, DCI Kett or DCI Will Blake. I state it again it is a great read in an excellent series!

I’ve mulled over how to rate this book for two days, so I’ll get to it. This complex murder mystery is intriguing, with multiple subplots and several viable suspects. The killing method is particularly grisly, and the related kidnapping subplot was a surprise. What I did not expect was a gang involvement trope, including a psychopathic leader and the usual gang violence. Plus, clichéd interrogation methods used by DCI Logan and ex-Detective Superintendent Hoon.

There are so many subplots and characters that the main storyline often suffered. At times, I had to push to suspend disbelief. Example is the gang subplot that seems to begin a new, continuing story arc. I couldn’t skip or skim, because of its tangential involvement with murder. Other subplots include: a violent rape; a hanging; pornography; a hold-all bag of stolen money; an OTT female impersonator; trendy gay bars; and lots of food & snacks. Then there’s a wealthy family of four traveling to Skye and the Highlands—including two children; carting a load of personal belongings; but using public transportation; and without personal security precautions.

There’s a boatload of personal drama that feature police characters, affiliated professionals, and even ex-cop Hoon. This includes horror movies with full makeup; DI Forde’s new, odd friendship; a FaceTime debacle with Logan’s old flame, etc. I liked the DCs Bell and Neish subplot, but a good hundred pages could be cut from the domestic bloat in this book.

2.5 stars pushed to 3 stars, because of the dark humor.

I’ve been an avid reader of the DCI Logan books since A Litter of Bones and found them to be fabulous reads. I was wondering how the appeal of more and more books in the series could be maintained but it was - until now. Perhaps my expectations were unrealistic but I struggled to enjoy huge sections of this book. There just seemed to be so much misery and having discredited former policeman Hoon appear yet again did nothing to lift the mood. I recognise that most reviews are 5 star but not from me. Sorry JD.

DCI Logan is called to a shocking scene where he finds the bodies of a family of four, all of whom have been brutally murdered. Logan is convinced he recognises the man and soon realises he is looking at none other than Archie Tatties, half of a famous comedy duo from the 80s. Who has gone out of their way to kill an ex-comedian and his family, and why have they wanted them all dead? The more Logan delves into the murders, the more shocking twists he uncovers. Is this a home invasion gone wrong, or is the truth far worse than anything Logan could have imagined?

Another great story in this series! So much happened in the plot and there were many things to sink your teeth into: murder, kidnapping, child abduction, stolen money, pornography, comedians, suicide, cancer, gangsters, sexual assault, to name but a few. There were many threads woven into the plot, but not too many that it ever felt too much or got confusing. Kirk knows how to write a captivating thriller, and this novel was no different.

One thing I enjoyed about the novel was that it featured suspense, comedy, and emotion all in one. Kirk always has an element of comedy in his writing, but the cancer story with Tyler and the storyline of Ben visiting Moira (a mostly disliked but lonely receptionist) in hospital showed true moments of heart. Moira is usually a stiff character, so it was nice seeing her lowering her walls with Ben.

The main reason I didn’t give this a higher rating is due to the way that Kirk writes LGBT characters. Anytime he introduces a lesbian character they either get killed or have a depressing storyline, so it would be nice to see this change in future books. The only positive storyline I’ve see for a lesbian character so far has been Logan’s new boss, but we never see much of her.

Overall, another captivating book that’s well worth a read!

Now I'm getting worried. What could I read once I've read Book 12 of the DCI Logan Crime Thrillers? Well, there's a Bob Hoon book coming out soon from J.D.Kirk, so that'll keep me busy for a while.

But enough about what is to come - back to Book 11, "An Isolated Incident." Naturally it has plenty of comic moments, a story that never seems to become boring, and a resolution that holds a surprise. Also we learn more about DC Tyler Neish and there are a few open-ended things that lead us neatly into book 12.

What's special about J.D.Kirk's books? He has an immediacy and a freedom about his writing that appeals to me so strongly. It just all flows so beautifully and wittily. He writes the way many people speak. There's no hesitation. I can't imagine him ever reading a chapter through and saying "No, I can't write that!" He simply says what he thinks. That's refreshing.

Once again, I thoroughly recommend this series. Do start with Book 1 though. You won't be sorry, I reckon.

A home invasion has left a family of four dead in Glen Coe. When Jack recognizes one of the victims as one half of an 80s Glasgow-based comedy double act, a trip back to his old station is in order to drive the investigation forward. Along for the ride is Tyler, who really ought to be dealing with issues other than brutal murder right now.

Immensely entertaining as always - what more is there to say?

Waited for this and not disappointed!

I received this book on day of release having pre-ordered. Unfortunately it was so good I've finished it in 2 days. There was sadness, laughter and serious crime fighting too. The storyline was excellent and believable. I would recommend that anyone looking for a new author to follow gets the series from JD KIRK following DCI Logan et al. I can't wait for the next installment!
