Yun Nam was born in North Korea in the late 1980s and lived in the border town Hoeryong. She married a military officer, gave birth to their daughter and dreamed of a different life. Park Chung-ho grew up near the border town Onsong. He was conscripted into the army as a teenager in the 1990s and served various deployments throughout his career. This is their story of hope, despair and sacrifice under the brutal North Korean regime.
Simon Pearce was born in the south of England and spent most of his formative years growing up on the Isle of Wight. He read English and German at the University of Wales, Swansea, and then wrote his Ph.D. in German history and literature at the University of Nottingham. He now lives near Berlin.
