Leadership at the informal level is becoming a lost art in the fire service. We lack men and women who are willing to lead regardless of their current position. Preparing yourself to lead at the informal level starts now, today. You may not carry a title, but it doesn't mean you can't influence others around you. You can lead from the jump seat.
As a firefighter, this book is a must read. The first half of the book is not mindblowing. There’s wasn’t much you hadn’t heard but the second half is highly motivational. It really got me to reflect on my weaknesses and inspires me to take a more active roll at work. Quick read, can do it in one sitting but I would read the second half numerous times.
Being a newly promoted Lieutenant at my station, I still search for ways to improve myself and others around me. This book envelops the necessary information to push you to the next step of leading from where you are and why it shouldn't have to take a promotion for you to make a difference.
This is a good book, every new firefighter should read this book. I would recommend this book to others. I'm a Captain with my organization and it's nice to have informal leaders among the our people.
Author brings up some good points. Leading from the ranks can be a challenge for new firefighters and firefighters in well established houses. This is a solid framework for starting to emerge as a leader.
Great read for those of us who love the fire service a lot and want to help continuing to make it better. Read it in the span of 45 minutes. Josh is witty and entertaining while being motivating.
