“She’s my stepdaughter,” I remind him, my morals fragile and cracking due to time passed and what I’ve become. “That all ended the night you were turned”
Yes, a disturbed story can potentially become even more twisted LOL
For a novella, K Webster sure packs a lot in! We’ve got some world building, many characters, multiple time periods, steam and action, and just a dash of that characteristic K Webster taboo.
Our heroine, Castilla suffers a devastating loss as a child- watching the murder of her family and the turning of her stepfather by two ravenous vampires. Years in the future, she’s turned her devastation and revenge into her life’s mission as a professional vampire slayer- but she’s always on the hunt from the vampires that destroyed her life. And she’s on the hunt to put her stepfather, Laurent, out of his misery in his vampire life. After years of hunting and suffering more adversity, she’s finally found him- but a chance encounter with an unexpected ally results in a path forward she did not anticipate, including teaming up with Laurent.
There is a LOT going on in this short novella, and for the most part, it works. Castilla is a developed enough character for us to care about and know, and K Webster gives us enough context about her past and present for us to understand her journey. The world building is actually pretty quickly done- the prevalence of vampire canon likely assists in us being able to quickly grasp the supernatural elements without too much deep explanation. And, K Webster weaves in some important and interesting side characters.
Oddly enough, I found myself missing the sexy/taboo sizzle that I’ve come to expect from her work- I think the supernatural component made something that would feel taboo normally feel less so, and I found the romantic and sex parts of this story to be the least developed/captivating than the others. Despite their relationship in the past, this does feel instalove, and Laurent was the least developed character to me despite having some POVs, perhaps because we don’t get his full backstory or much of his time past like we do with Castilla.
What I did not expect, though, was to be so interested in the secondary elements of this story- there was suspense and surprise there, a bit mare taboo that I actually wanted to see where it went, and made for an interesting and unusual HEA. And, Castilla is a really compelling and interesting heroine- I loved her the most.
This was originally part of the EVIE anthology, so I’m not sure if we’ll get more of this story or stories from some of the other characters, but I’d definitely be interested in more. K Webster seems to have a good handle on keeping supernatural sexy and uncomplicated, and the supernatural seems to open up the door for her dark and taboo proclivities to have additional forbidden fodder to play with. (I’ve not read her other PNR titles, but this certainly made me want to pick them up).
Plot Summary : Castilla's whole life changed when she saw her family being murdered at a young age. Her stepfather was turned into the very thing that killed her family and that devastated her. In her quest to free her stepfather from his suffering, she becomes a vampire Slayer.
Now years later, things change when she comes face to face with her stepfather, laurent. He is changed and the bong between them now is much deeper than that of mutual care. But things are not that simple. They still have another enemy, someone who won't hesitate to destroy them just like they did a few years ago.
Overall Opinion : I absolutely loved this one! This author seriously never fails to hook me in and no matter how short her story, she gives it to us perfectly! This was more of a taboo romance and I loved it!
Even though it was short , it still had that thrilling suspense edge that K.webster’s books always have. A must read for all the Fantasy romance lovers out there!
Tragedy strikes when five year Castilla had to be the witness of vampires murdering her mom and baby brother, and turning her stepdad into a vampire himself. For 15 days she was locked in a magical chest that kept her alive but she had to endure the fear of being locked up knowing her family was dead and stepdad going through blood lust trying to get to her. Eventually the landlord came to save her and she was put into foster care where she met her foster-care brother, Griffin. When she finally found someone to love and trust, thinking this was her protector, he ends up raping and impregnating Castilla at just thirteen. Que to many moons later, Castilla being a single mom to a little girl Mercy.. Castilla ends up being a vampire slayer. Never wanting to be a victim again, Castilla is a human badass. This story is about redemption, revenge, courage, and even love.
This is a K.Webster story so theirs a bit of taboo nature in here. You’ll just have to read and find out who is fated mates with whom. 🤭🔥
What do you do when twin vampires destroy all that you know and love? Well if you're Castilla you woman up and become a bad a** vampire slayer. Casti is hardened due to some horrible things that happened to her in her childhood and she is always on the hunt for the twin vampires who slaughtered her family and she teams up with a most unlikely ally in Laurant who is also someone from her past.
This story is definitely twisted and carries a few surprises within it's pages that will keep you hooked until the very end. There was a lot of punch packed into this novella it wasn't too much though that you were overloaded, it all just worked. I personally would have liked to have seen more of that sexy taboo that K Webster does so well but all in all I loved this story. The characters are well developed, the world is believable and the plot is well rounded. K Webster may make a vampire fan out of me yet, maybe ;)
This was a short, direct, interesting little PNR starring vampires, vampire slayers, and a variety of other beings that didn't go into detail.
For a short novel I'd say it had just enough plot, romance, and steam to be satisfactory. It wasn't deep or drawn out but there were a couple of parts that made my heart ache and race. That shows you how freaking talented K. Webster is when she can still manage some WTF scenes in such a short piece of work.
Castilla was a strong, compassionate young woman on a mission. Laurent, once her stepfather and now a vampire, had a nice character arc as he learned how to channel his vampire abilities while also finding his love in the young woman who is no longer a little girl. Add in the side characters - like Jude, Looey, and Mercy, - a bit of possessiveness, a bit of steam, some action, and a HFN, and I'd say I'm quite happy after this PNR mini-break.
I'll admit I wouldn't be opposed to MORE from this story and maybe a spin-off about a certain sweet girl in the future. Yea?
Bond Deeper Than Blood was an engrossing paranormal novella that had me hooked from beginning to end. There was a slight taboo element to the story as the bond between Castilla and Laurent really was deeper than blood and the author will have you rooting for these two in no time. I enjoyed this story, with all its drama, action, passion and angst. With well developed characters, the author did a fantastic job with world building and packed quite a lot into this short tale. It was a quick, easy read with some slightly dark elements and I would recommend it to lovers of paranormal romance.
“So maybe this bonding thing goes deeper than blood after all. A soul mates kind of thing.”
I’m not typically a reader of paranormal romance but I do occasionally read it!
K Webster drew me in with these characters and the main female character. I really love a female that can kick butt and take names.
This is an anthology story so it’s hard to pack as much depth into the story as a normal length book can. In some areas I though it was rushed and not a lot of depth. But again, this is anthology length, so...
I do love Webster’s writing though and I enjoyed these characters.
Castilla was a young girl when twin vampires killed the people she loved and took the one person who was trying to protect her. Now she has grown up and she is hunting the people who destroyed her life. This story is twisted and has a few surprises!
Since diving into my first K. Webster book, I’ve been happy to dive into more. Bond Deeper Than Blood is my first paranormal read from the author, and it certainly had me turning the pages. Although a quick read, I didn’t fall for it as much as I had hoped to.
I think my problem with this one was that I wanted more world building. The story was interesting, and I wanted to see how things developed with the characters, but I had wanted more from the world. The details were glossed over too quickly for me, and I wanted more development from them. Although not quite enough for me, it was an interesting story I happily devoured in a single sitting.
All in all, I would not label this my favourite K. Webster story, but it was a quick and easy read.
This quick read was a complete story with well developed character that I easily connected with and came to love by the time the story was over.
There’s mystery. There’s a forbidden/taboo romance. There’s a larger worlds to explore with portals to other realms. Magic exists as do demons, vampires, shifters, and other supernaturals.
Devastating events as a child left Castilla longing for revenge and retribution. She will kill those that stole her family. Along the way life threw here an even larger curve ball in the form of a little bundle of joy. “Mercy be thy way” has become her credo. Trained as a killer, she never expects to form an alliance with what should be her enemy. But they are the only ones who can save her Mercy.
Castilla’s relationship with her former stepfather Laurent is complicated to say the least. This should be a taboo relationship but years of separation allow this to be more of an insta-love. I found them together to be almost kismet, fated, meant to be. But that ending, it left me shocked and grateful all in one. It’s the perfect HEA.
I hope we get to one day see more of Beck, Mercy, Jude, and Loey, plus baby Dracula. But especially Beck, he intrigues me the most. It’s something about his old world manner that makes me swoon and think of Lestat from Interview with a Vampire.

Vampires ✅, Forbidden ✅, Taboo ✅, Age Gap ✅, Triggers ✅, Revenge ✅, Dark ✅, HEA✅. This book was like crack to my dark heart! ***** Rating: 5 stars Steam: 3.5 flames Genre: (see above) ***** Bond Deeper than Blood was a freaking fantastically dark novella that has me wanting SO MUCH MORE!
We meet Castilla and Laurent when Castilla is just five years old and Laurent is her stepfather. They have already forged a bond and Castilla is half the reason he stays in a loveless marriage.
Then everything changes. Two blood thirsty vampire twins break into Castilla’s home, her mother and baby brother murdered; Laurent changed by the evil twins.
Castilla has had it rough. Betrayed by those she trusted, lost her family, and so much more. I felt pain deep in my heart for what Castilla has been through, but she has overcome the evil of her life and is now a vampire hunter. Her life revolves around Mercy and hunting for the two evil twins that killed her family and took Laurent from her, and eventually, putting Laurent out of his misery too.
But the funny thing about life... priorities, plans, and purpose can change in an instant. That instant comes when she comes face to face with Laurent again.
Good heavens K. Webster has a way of making feel like everything forbidden, taboo, and maybe a little bit wrong, is okay, and Bond Deeper than Blood once again had me accepting and loving a slightly inappropriate relationship and actually routing it on. Laurent and Castilla truly do have a bond that goes way deeper than blood, I think it’s down to their souls.
For a novella, this packed one heck of story. I didn’t feel cheated, though I will be honest… I WANT MORE! If you are looking for a strong heroine, a vampire you want to bleed for and a story that you will not be able to put down...look no further because this is your book! Loved it! All my recommendations!
Bond Deeper than Blood by K Webster was a story I was excited about but I had no ideal how much I would love this story. From the very first page I was hooked till the last page. Was left with a smile on my face. Castilla at a young age witnesses the murder of her mother and baby brother. Her stepfather saved her but he in turned into a vampire. Years later her mission is to find her stepfather who meant so much to her and put him out of his misery. Her journey from the time of her family's death till seeing Laurent again was quite the story. She went threw some things. Wow!!!!! She was definitely one tough chick. Don't want to give to much away. All I want to say is enjoy. This story was the right balance of everything that makes a good story. I loved and cared about the characters. The premise of the story was fresh and intriguing. There was some darkness and grit with a sprinkle of twisted along with a very happy ending. The sex was down and dirty. I hope this book becomes a series. Definitely left me wanting more. Totally satisfied. A 5 star read for me.
A short taboo story about vampires, what's not to love? I haven't read a book with vampires in it probably since Twilight and this definitely isn't twilight. I mean if memory serves me correctly Edward was hot and all brooding, but Laurant is even better.
For a short read it certainly felt like it was longer, it was packed full of stuff. Casti turned out to be quite the badass, which I'm sure she had to be with what she was dealt in life. She could have been a victim the rest of her life, but she chose to be a warrior vampire slayer.
Laurant and Casti were all kinds of hot. So if you're in the mood for sexy hotness and vampires, I recommend this book. To end my review I will say I was surprised by the ending and I have no clue why, just because she was a vampire slayer doesn't mean it couldn't have ended the way it did.
*an arc was provided in exchange for an honest review* ~Alison
A short, sexy yet action packed story filled with vampires, demons, tragedy and so much sex. Oh how I wish this was longer, I wanted to stay in this world forever. I’m picky when it comes to PNR, but K Webster put in her signature filth and smut and I couldn’t get enough. Such a delicious story that will have you on the edge of your seat. Not only will you fall in love with Castilla and Laurent but all the other side characters too. I’m hoping in the near future all our other favourite characters get their own story too!
I don’t read a lot of paranormal romance,I really enjoyed this PNR novella. I got enough backstory on the main character to be emotionally invested. I think that’s difficult in novellas/short stories. I liked the world of vampires, demons , fae and other paranormal beings that are at the center of this story. I was engaged throughout the story, I liked the characters. I liked their shared history. I liked that the heroine was pretty strong and tough. I love the taboo factor and sexy times ;) I enjoyed this slice of taboo PNR.
I feel like I just read 3 full length novels in this short one and I’m here for it. So much happened! So. Much. Like, I can’t even really process all the ongoings and information I just loaded into my brain. The characters were distinct and well written. The ending was great. I wish there was more. Just.. So good!
Bond Deeper Than Blood is a quick, steamy, paranormal romance. It’s full of vampires, slayers and demons. It’s slightly taboo in a very K Webster way. It may be considered a novella but there’s enough back story that it doesn’t seem as short. I’m loving Webster’s foray into PNR and I can’t wait to see what she writes next!
Castilla has revenge on her mind and nothing is getting in her way, not even Laurent. She wants to take out the twin vampires that took her family from her. Laurent only wants Castilla even though she kills his kind. I love this novella but I wish it would have been longer. Can’t wait to see what this this author has in store for us next!!
Bond Deeper Than Blood is unlike any PNR story I have read in a while. The main characters Castilla and Laurent don't get together and start their story until the middle of the book, so it took some getting into. BUT the storyline keeps you going. The feelings that Castilla brings into the story keep you wanting to read this book.
Everything is taken from Castilla from the very beginning. When she grows up she gives up her future to find the people that killed her family. She knows what she is going to find will be horrible and she will have to kill Laurent.
When Laurent is "saved" he finds himself seeing Castilla as an adult and wants her above all else. There has been a lot of time between seeing each other and now what is he supposed to do with an adult Castilla? He has a lot of explaining to do and doesn't know where to begin.
I really enjoyed this story. I am hoping there is more from these characters.
I enjoyed this novella, full of action and vampires. Castilla and Laurent's story is full of passion, drama, action, and angst. I love the age-gap, darkness, and forbidden part of the story, but the Buffy alike made me enjoy it a bit more. It's a great story to do a quick read.
Zomg y'all, Author K Webster's Bond Deeper Than Blood is BRILLIANT!!
I'm normally very picky about which vampire novels I buy, and want a loooong book to make sure the character development and plot lines are all there, but K packs a punch with this short novel!
Castilla has been looking for her step-father, and the two vampires that killed her mother and brother since she was a young teen. She is an amazing slayer, having been trained by the best of the best and routinely kills baddies, until one night she stumbles into a lair finding exactly who she's been looking for forever!
Laurent was supposed to be a slayer, but he didn't want to when he was younger, wanting instead to spend his time playing music and a little lost in his head. When the twin Vampires found him years ago, he could only save Castilla before they fell on him infecting him with their blood disease, he knows he should have done better and has felt guilty for years. When he's saved by Beck he knows there's more for him to do.
I loved Castilla, she is a true bada$$ of the highest order, and the things she can do made my head spin. Laurent is AMAZING, and his vampiric talents are out of this world!!
The story line and character development are brilliant, even the side characters are on point. By the end I was definitely ready to see what happens with Beck, Jude, and Loey, and not at all ready for the story to end. K Webster's Bond Deeper Than Blood had my emotions all over the map, and I cannot WAIT to see what she has up her sleeve next!
Bond Deeper Than Blood by @authorkwebster ............. “Mercy be thy way.” ............ This book drew me in from the start. A quick paced and fast read, this book throws you into the action from the first chapter. Castilla is haunted by the loss of her loved ones by Vampires from a very young age. Left alone and thrown to the wolves of foster care, her life doesn’t get much better. ............ “Music is in everything. You just have to listen, Castilla.” .......... After a chance meeting with Jude, Castilla learns there are others who are aware of the monsters that lurk in the dark. She is trained as a Vampire slayer, hell bent on exacting her revenge and finding her step father, Laurent. But what happens when she come finally some face to face with the man shes been looking for for years? ......... “Do you hear the music?” he murmurs against my ear, making me shiver. “The strong cadence of your heart beating? Such a lovely sound.” ........... I haven’t read a vampire romance in awhile so this was a great change. Quick and face paced was exactly what I needed right now. But being a fast read means there isn’t a whole lot of depth. Sexy read but has a little bit of taboo with a step father romance. Assault is a trigger in this book. .............
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

This is the story of Castilla who as a young girl saw two twin vampires kill the people she loved and took the one person that was trying to protect her. Now she is a grown woman who is out for revenge and is hunting for the twins that killed everyone and the man who was trying to protect her but ended up a vampire and doesn't want that life. Her mission is to kill them all. But what if one of them doesn't want to die and only wants her. You have to read and find out but this story is really great. I am not much of a paranormal reader but I really did like this story a lot.
Bond Deeper than Blood by K. Webster is short suspense full taboo novella, involving a vampire and and a vampire hunter
Castilla lives with mom, step-father Laurent, and baby brother. A group of vampires killed her mom, brother and turned her stepfather. Laurent protects Castilla by placing her in a spell bound chest so the vampire can not kill her. Castilla mission is to kill those who killed her family and Laurent who never wanted to be a vampire. What will happen when Laurent and Castilla come face to face will she be able to follow through on her mission?
Castilla has become a top vampire slayer, her life has not been easy she has gone through a lot. Laurent is protective of Castilla, their relationship has changed from parental to lovers. Laurent and Castilla have changed and gone through some major things in the past. I have not read a lot of paranormal romances lately and this book was perfect to dive right back in. This was a steamy suspenseful read and taboo. The story had a good story line to it more than just romance.
