Borgia Family was a noble family as famous as Medici Family in the Middle Ages and it gave birth to talented people from generation to generation, finally reaching its peak at the generation of Cesare Borgia. This unusually lucky person integrating wisdom, military force, wealth, strategy and brutality took on the road to the overlord who unified Italy with the cooperation of his father Alexander VI. However, the blessing of the God on Cesare stopped in heyday and the mighty king became a prisoner; he narrowly escaped but was caught in the hopeless situation and no longer as powerful as before, leaning on the sword and standing in the tight encirclement despite the robust body. In the tight encirclement of enemy, the sword of Cesare was just like a meteor shooting in the night sky and gradually disappeared after radiating the brilliant light. The fallen Cesare declared the end of the Borgia Family's heyday.

鹽野七生在她第一本《文藝復興的女人們》中已明顯流露出對切薩雷的欣賞和興趣，於是也引起了我讀本書的興趣。如第一本，鹽野七生的筆鋒毫不掩飾她的喜惡，但是也不會虛美隱惡。她在第一本書後記和本書致讀者中自認這是她年輕時寫作的缺點，然而我認為這恰恰也是她這兩本書的魅力。讀鹽野七生這兩本書時常常會想到司馬遷寫史記，都是挑選人物最重要的事件詳寫並以想象力補充細節，所以讀來引人入勝。讀到切薩雷最後戰死沙場那一幕，不禁聯想到項羽，都有一代梟雄時不與我的悲壯。本書不是歷史學術，這樣以人物為本的歷史故事易讀有趣，很精采。接下來想看馬基雅維利的故事了。
