Paul J Bennett (b. 1961) emigrated from England to Canada in 1967. His father served in the British Royal Navy, and his mother worked for the BBC in London. As a young man, Paul followed in his father’s footsteps, joining the Canadian Armed Forces in 1983. He is married to Carol Bennett and has three daughters who are all creative in their own right.
Paul’s interest in writing started in his teen years when he discovered the roleplaying game, Dungeons & Dragons (D & D). What attracted him to this new hobby was the creativity it required; the need to create realms, worlds and adventures that pulled the gamers into his stories.
In his 30’s, Paul started to dabble in designing his own roleplaying system, using the Peninsular War in Portugal as his backdrop. His regular gaming group were willing victims, er, participants in helping to playtest this new system. A few years later, he added additional settings to his game, including Science Fiction, Post-Apocalyptic, World War II, and the all-important Fantasy Realm where his stories take place.
The beginnings of his first book ‘Servant to the Crown’ originated over five years ago when he began a new fantasy campaign. For the world that the Kingdom of Merceria is in, he ran his adventures like a TV show, with seasons that each had twelve episodes, and an overarching plot. When the campaign ended, he knew all the characters, what they had to accomplish, what needed to happen to move the plot along, and it was this that inspired to sit down to write his first novel.
Paul now has four series based in his fantasy world of Eiddenwerthe and is looking forward to sharing many more books with his readers over the coming years.
This story really is epic! The world building capacity of Mr Bennet and his unique skills with amazing characters made any book a captivating tale. This book 4 in the series is a great example of this, and continues the story of Natalia and Athgar. I don't want to spoil anything for you so I just tell you this: be prepared for new adventures, a lot of action, some family issues and a reaffirmation of love and life all set in a magical world full of fantastic characters. I strongly recommend you to read it in order as part of the series, to fully enjoy the amazing plot, because after finish this book you would want to read everything again. So good!
This series continues to be very interesting and well written. However I had to downgrade it for personal reasons - it decided to include a trope that I particularly detest, as it has been overplayed in fiction. I was hoping it wouldn’t go there as the pieces started coming together, but it did. It ended (?) in this book, but the epilogue hints at it recurring down the road, and I’m already positive on how it will turn out. I’ll continue the series, as I’m hoping the next book won’t be a rehash of this one, but I can’t guarantee that. Also, hoping that the author is aiming for a twist we can’t see.
This book was heart stopping and full of love, betrayal and drama. Athgar and Natalia’s baby is born and the Sartellian family wants her. They send Athgar’s sister Ethwyn who Athgar had searched for ever since the attack on his village years ago. He never found her and now she is being a weapon being used against him. A well written story with characters you love and ones you are going to hate. Paul J Bennett writes in a awesome world of magical and non magical characters with a storyline that sucks you in and never lets go. Great book and series.
I’ve read all of Paul Bennett’s Frozen Flame and Heir to the Throne books to date. I feel the same after I finish one; I can’t wait until the next one is available. Mr. Bennett has it all: great story line, amazing characters and character development, realistic action and everything else you would want in a “Sword and Sorcery” read! Even if you are not a Sword and Sorcery fan (I wasn’t), you will enjoy his books. I highly recommend Inferno and all of The Inferno and Heir to the Throne series. As always, I can’t wait for the next installment !!!
Paul J Bennett has written a book that I have truly been looking forward to reading. It continues the story of Athgar and Natalie along with Shaluak and Kargen and the rest of Therengians and Orcs. It also introduces Athgar's sister Ethwyn and the baby that Natalie was expecting at the end of the last book is born. They build their kingdom and begin planning on extending welcome to all people. This is the fourth book in the series The Frozen Flame and looking forward to reading the book...
A Dwarf, a Mage Hunter and a Temple Knight what could possibly go wrong? PLENTY! The baby was born! After reading teasers in Paul's newsletter about the birth of Natalia and Athgars baby I was happy to finally get to read about this event. I haven't been this excited for a birth since my twin grandsons were born. As always this book did not disappoint! So take a ride on this action packed roller-coaster and enjoy.
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
One of my nephews when he was little was very vocal on what he liked and what he didn’t. If he didn’t “bad” in varying tones and volume, if he did “good stuff” with varying Os in good. So I say Paul J Bennett’s reads so far have all been good stuff and Inferno is “gooooooooood stuff “ as well. I am so looking forward to continuing these books, every one adds more to look forward to.
Treachery! Murder! War! This is an action-packed tale of the rebirth of a nation, the story of peoples coming together to find common ground to build a future. Athgar, Natalia and their child are at the heart of this story, but so much more makes this one of Bennett’s best to date. Highly recommend reading the entire saga from the beginning – well worth it!
I can't think of anything to write that isn't a spoiler. Let me see, a comprehensive story with settling land, war, magic, and treachery woven together with such skill there is no time to get bored with any aspect of the book.
This was a real page turner for me. I say, sit back and get comfortable with your favorite beverage and prepare to enjoy
Paul J. Bennett’s The Frozen Flame series is truly epic “Sword & Sorcery” at its best. It just gets better and better with each book and now, in Inferno (Book 4), we get Natalia and Athgar’s baby and the rise of Therengia. Trust me, this is a double-whammy of delight. A wonderfully thrilling novel that I addictively read though, it’s one that is very easy for me to highly recommend.
Inferno, the fourth book in Paul J. Bennett's The Frozen Flame series, is like a wild ride on a roller-coaster. It's full of plot twists, treachery, and acts of bravery centered around Natalia and Athgar, the series' main characters. Magic and mayhem abound with a conclusion that leaves you satisfied but wanting more.
What can be said except I love sword and sorcery and book four was truly epic in terms of scope and story telling, this world keeps getting bigger and more intricate, especially as details of the world and its politics become more intricate and define. Loved the story and look forward to the next book.
Athgar and Natalia are doing well in their new life with the Therengian peoples and they have a baby on the way. Then Athgar’s long-lost sister Ethwyn shows up and things go awry from there. Lots of excitement and challenges from that point forward. Another great story.
Totally awesome as always. The adventure continues for our remarkable family and all their friends. Athar’s sister arrives but all is not what it seems. Life does not get easy for them, the Family want the baby, so life is still being lived on the edge. Highly recommended.
This is a epic sword and sorcery , absolutely catches you and ….all I can say is “HOLD ON”. It’ll take you on an adventure of a lifetime ……Love it Absolutely Love it Paul Bennett, love your story telling
Peace and War An interesting story of building a kingdom, where all are welcome to live together in peace. Through twists and turns, a lot of drama and plotting see how these wonderful characters build a kingdom.
Fantastic storytelling, great characters and character development. It's been very fulfilling to watch this world grow and grab your interest so fully you just hate to wait for the next book. Great stuff, Paul.
Another wonderful book by Paul! I love this group of people of different races who have formed a family and an empire. There is lots of action and the storylines are so good it is hard to put down
The Child of two powerful mages is kidnapped ... what could possibly happen? That is exactly what is explored in this book. Read it and find out, I enjoyed this story more than words can describe. .. spoiler alert, it has a happy ending :-)
You would think that with all they had endured, Athgar, Natalia and their fellow Orcs and Therengians would deserve some peace. Unfortunately for them, that is not the case. Athgar and Natalia have produced something that has eluded The Family's breeding program. They have produced a child which may very well be able to wield both Fire and Water magics.
Inferno is Book 4 in the Frozen Flame series and to really understand the story line and character development, you need to start with the prelude. Paul J Bennett is a favourite author of mine. Paul has a few series which often tend to crossover character wise, and I have enjoyed each and every one of them.
I highly recommend Inferno and all books from the pen of Paul J Bennett. Happy reading. Annemarie
I received an Advance Reader Copy of Inferno from the author and have chosen to leave a review.
