DNF @ 9% whoever rated this book with five stars are Lying to you. The writing is as atrocious as the editing. This needs a thorough clean up. I couldn’t continue wasting my time with it.

Asinine chapters - *some spoilers

*Some spoilers*
First I want start off by, I never leave a review unless I REALLY love a book. Yet, this one, I seriously did not like and I feel bad for leaving a harsh review. But y’all need to know…
3/4 of this book is completely asinine. There was so much pointless information and day to day explanations that this book could have been written in MAYBE 10 chapters, and that’s even being generous because it could have been much less.
There was no rising action, no climax, no dramatic structure what so ever.
I mean, her boyfriend kissed another girl at the club and her snobby ex best friend was the only drama but it was idiotic.
I don’t need to know that each sister ran back into the house multiple times because they forgot specific items. I don’t care about every little thing they ate and yes! We get it! School lunch food sucks! Why are all of these nonsensical details necessary???
I genuinely don’t know what the plot was because it read more like a daily dialogue diary of a high school girl.
That’s the best way I can describe it and it didn’t get even remotely interesting until maybe the last 2-3 chapters. Yet, those were even predicable once you figured out what she can do.
The only thing I want to find out in the next book is why Hunter bailed on her when he already knew what she was. *insert eye roll* because I can already pretty much guess, but I just want to confirm.
All in all…
Idk, read it.
Maybe I’m being too harsh or maybe I’m too old and a high school girl would love this because they can relate but I love YA and read a lot of it because of the high emotion, rising action, dramatic climaxes and plots but there was not any of that for this book.

Needs serious work.

Yikes. When I began reading this I honestly thought a teenager was the author. I am in shock at how awful the writing was. To begin people don't speak in the stilted manner these characters did. 98% of this book was about breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as clothing, hair, and make-up AD NASEUM. I began getting bored so began skipping numerous pages at a time only to stop and read about the same drivel. At the end of the book comes the reveal she's a witch and now book 2 must be purchased. Speechless not in a good way. Needs serious proofreading and editing. The concept had such promise but the delivery needs an overhaul.

I am an avid reader and have been so for many many years.

If a book doesn’t catch my attention within the first few lines, then I move on to the next.

This book held my attention immediately. The descriptiveness and ease of flow made it extremely easy to follow and become completely enthralled in the story as well as captivated with the characters and what will happen with each new page.

I can’t wait to read more from this talented author!

Thought it was an exceptional read. I enjoyed learning a lot about the character and the lead up to the plot was a page turner. An avid book reader, I do believe she can captivate an audience with the feeling as if you are walking in that world with the detailed descriptions of things. I'm so glad to see another book in the series and can't wait to start diving in!

This isn't typically the type of story that I read. I did however enjoy the book. There were some interesting characters and the end of the book took a turn I wasn't expecting. I do wish the story had gotten to the surprise a little sooner. Over all this is an enjoyable read.

I unfortunately had to decide not to finish this book after about 25%

I loved the cover. I was excited about the premise. A.L.Martin shows promise with her writing I believe. She does well with the little details, and big parts of the story come across as realistic.

Fair is fair, the book would have benefited from another round of edits or beta readers checking for minor misses. But that didn't bother me overly. What was a little confusing is that we sometimes step from one scene into another (one moment we're at school with friends in a conversation, the other we're alone in the MC's room at home several hours later) without a break in the text; nothing to indicate a change of scene.
The main reason I started getting into a reading slump and put the book aside was the fact that it felt like nothing really had happened so far, and as much as I wanted to stay engaged, it just wasn't working for me and I lost interest.

Conclusion: I think this particular story could do with some more work, but I do see some promise in the author.
