A vigilante has come to Hartland. With the police station barely staffed after the new Chief fired most of the bigoted Alphas, it was left to the remaining few to find who decided to seek justice outside of the law.
Gal Church had walked away from the love of his life, Levan, hoping it would keep him safe. Too many cops still believed Omegas were nothing but possessions, and if any of them found out that Gal was in love with Levan, it might put the Omega in danger.
Levan Katz had been hurt and confused when Gal basically abandoned him after he’d been injured by a group of Alpha cops. But he refused to sit around and mope. After weeks of rehab, he’d gone back to work, only to end up on a case with Gal.
Thrown back into working together, the passion between them heats up. Will love win in the end? Or will it blow up in their faces?
Warning: This series will overlap some in these books. Each book needs to be read in order to discover all the clues for each case as different characters will be investigating different aspects.
Bestselling author of the Cedar Falls Series, Hart Medical Center Series, Miracle Series, and Paranormal Wars Series, Shea Balik has always had a vivid imagination with stories running around in her head. Often her stories are taken from observations of other people with her own spin.
Traveling is one of her favorite ways of fulfilling her passion of people watching. You never know, one day you may spark her imagination for her next book.
Whether at home or traveling she is usually in front of her computer writing or curled up with a good book.
Having read the first 4 books of this series, I will post my review here and then just add a rating for the remaining 3 books and any additional books... unless something really pops out as needing to be mentioned!
Let me just say that I have always found short and sweet reads, like these to be relaxing and stress-releasing on a bad day... and I appreciate when an author writes the "escape from real life" books for when I need it... that being said...
I really enjoy Shea Balik's writing. I devoured her Paranormal Wars universe as well as Miracle series. This is the first spin-off to the original link: Hart Medical Center series, which was at moments hard to read due to the bigoted and often despicable way omegas were treated. In this series, the omegas already have made some headway and are treated better and with more respect.
Before you start reading this series, I would strongly suggest going back to the original series first, as there are connections and links to plot and characters previously introduced. The only thing you can count on in this whole universe, that you will not need context for is the fact that there is always an omega in heat and an alpha happy to oblige. The relationships between the MC's often already started developing during previous books, that is why their bonding period might feel rushed if you jump in "in the middle" so to speak.
The investigation plot is interesting and will span over multiple books, so don't be alarmed when it isn't resolved by the end of this book. I can't wait to see who the head henchman is going to turn out to be. I have some suspicions but maybe they will turn out to be false in the end.
If this is a new to you author, I would recommend the Paranormal Wars universe. There is an overarching plot of sorts but every book and love-story has a resolution at the end that might feel more satisfying to some.
Likes: -Emotional honesty -Gal admits his mistake and grows from it. -The romantic leads grow to be kind to each other and respect one another. -The romantic leads support marriage and value and protect children.
Dislikes: -Consent issues 1. Gal didn’t actually coerce Lavan, but it was by accident. 2. Zero sexual boundaries were discussed prior to using no protection, despite instantaneous physical and (realistically, some economic) consequences for Levan. 3. Lack of conversation or requests for permission about intimate acts that legitimately compromise Levan’s health due to lack of hygiene. It’s presented as just acting without talking because the romantic leads are so passionate, but lack of consent around sexual boundaries leads to boundary violations, anxiety, and potential rape if the less powerful partner doesn’t feel free to say no. None of those results are romantic, and this is not a safe script for real people to imitate because it leads to unsafe behavior and undesirable results. I deducted one star.
Otherwise, there was minimal emotional abuse and the plot was reasonable, despite ending in a HFN and not a HEA. It only works because it’s very fictional, but the best part about fiction is theorizing a better future for characters than the outcome we’ve been able to see real people secure in the present. Fiction can offer hope for the future and a better illustration of how to live and care for one another. However, as long as I suspend knowledge of what happens in the real world if people act in such a manner, it’s a decent romance.
I was not anticipating a follow up to the Hartland Medical series, but I got it anyway! And I am so happy it picks up right where the first series left off. For continuity I truly believe you need to read the Hartland Medical series first. Many of the same characters were in this First book of the Police Department series. I don't know if you want to call it a Spin-Off or a Continuation with a different emphasis, whatever - it is action packed. And as you root for the MCs you want to smack the Alpha upside his head for being so stubborn and clueless. The Omega was tenacious with strength of character and a determination not to allow the Monster Alphas to win.
A supporter of Omega Rights and the belief that Omegas were equally as intelligent as Alphas to take on many of the jobs within the Law Enforcement. Unfortunately that was not the mentality of the prejudiced violent Alphas that mostly populated the Hartland Police Department and made life miserable for the brave Omegas who wanted things to change for the better for all Omegas, regardless of the job they held. This divisive corrupt culture was slowly being weeded out as happened in the Medical Center, but not fast enough.
If you enjoy reading about Omegas overcoming some incredible challenges and standing up for equality of all genders. Not backing down even in the face of danger and incredible odds then this series is for you. Be forewarned there is violence, stubbornness, tenacity, and some sweet loving thrown into this Mpreg mix.
This was book 1 in the "Hartland PD". This was a short quick read. We first met Gal and Levan in the "Hart Medical Center" series. Gal is a homicide detective and Levan works in forensics he was attacked and almost died when he was at the training center when the alpha trainer decided to attack the omegas that were in training he spent six weeks in a coma with Gal by his side when he woke up Gal decided to leave him even though he was in love with him. When they get a case of two former Alpha cops tied together on a park bench they realize that they have a vigilante. When Levan accepts a date with another cop Gal snaps out of his thought that he was keeping him safe by not being with Levan. I liked both of these characters Levan found his voice and decided that he wasn't going to be taking crap from anyone. I loved Shale and his knives when he thought that one of the cops was giving one of the omega cadets problems. Levan and Gal get a surprise when Levan begins getting sick. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
That which doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. Some really strong omegas in HPD. Levan was teaching a class at the police academy, wen the alpha instructors invaded the class and beat up the omegas. There was a death. His injuries were serious and he lapsed into a coma. Galway, stayed by Levan's side while he was in a coma. When Levan woke up, he walked away and didn't talk to him. Both Levan and Gal, liked each other secretly and quietly. They each suffered from a bit of low esteem that made them doubt their lovability. Levan as the forensic scientific genius was so good at his job, that many alphas asked for him to work on their crime scenes even when they had prejudices. They are forced to work together on the Alpha/Omega conflicts. Things get serious at work and at home. Gal and Levan fell into a work habit spending time together, that crossed the line into the personal. As they learn more, the numbers increase. Designation descrimination never ends well. Excellent story. Well done!
The conclusion to what happened to Levan and the start of a new series!
This is a non-shifter romance with mpreg, the first in a series, it needs to be read in order but it would also help to read the 8 small books in the Hart’s Medical Series to understand the previous characters that show up in the background of this series as well as understand the two main characters in this series. I’ve loved Gal since the first book in the HM series that involves his previous cop partner. Levan is so great at his job, but after recovering from what happens, he wants Gal by his side as more than a friend or co-worker!
A new to me author. I felt a little disconnected in the story. After reading other reviews it seems this series is a spin-off. It may help understand characters background by reading the previous series. There’s a little angst in the relationship that could be solved by communicating. The police case they are working on was definitely interesting but no resolve left me frustrated. I’ll read book two but I need a resolution to these cases.

There are a lot of references to events in a previous series, Hart Medical, in this book, but I followed along with the story well enough without having read that series. Anyway, this book set up what looks to be an interesting police mystery series so even though the characters are somehow flat while still having ridiculous reactions to things, I'm going to continue with the series.
Book 1 and we're already off to a bang. I can't wait to see how this one is going to go. there's so much still continuing from Hart's Medical and now it's spilled everywhere and people are making a major stand. I'm loving it
This a new author for me, but I enjoyed her writing. Loved Levan and Gal! It took them awhile, but they finally found their way back to each other. I'm definitely going to read more of author's books.
Before reading this series better reading Hart Medical Center first, that's what I did and I didn't regret it because I can get the whole backstory for this series.
It's a start of new wonderful journey and I truly enjoyed Levan and Gal's story.
Unfortunately I did not read the prior series, Hartland Medical. So some of the relationships are not familiar. However, this was a well written start, with a crime that won't be solved until later in the series. The characters do get their HEA/HFN though. Exciting. Can't wait for more.
DNF. Had a real tough time with this one, not a happy, cozy omegaverse tale at all. The hatred and brutality, including murder, towards Omega's made it a very hard read so I gave up, I couldn't do it. No disrespect to the author intended, just not my thing.
