Until Next Time is book one in the Against All Odds: The St. James Family series by Claudia Burgoa. This is a sweet, fun yet heart warming story of two people that are trying to deal with the death of someone they loved. A little girl’s wish brings them together but it’s that unknown magic that happens between two people that creates the bond that holds them there.

When Zach St. James met Callie Brassard, he thought he was in love with her and he married her. Only soon discovering that they were two very different people and Callie was a manipulative, hurtful woman. But after only six months of marriage, Callie was killed in a tragic accident. Now, when this book begins, it’s been two years since her death yet Zach still struggles with the loss. His life is his work. He owns a very successful chain of coffee shops, Café Fusion, as well as a chain of restaurants. Zach has dedicated himself to helping people.

Autumn Wickerton had a baby with her high school sweetheart. They never married but they were in love until he too was killed in a tragic car accident. It’s been six years since his death and Autumn still grieves for him. She is a single mom to the most adorable little girl you’ve ever seen, Matilda. Autumn works three jobs and is going to school, all while trying to also be a good mother. When her daughter tells Percy Brassard, an influencer and pod caster, that she wants her mom to be happy and to find her a husband and herself a new daddy, the world hears it all, including Zach St. James.

Zach used to be best friends with Autumn’s older brother. He knew Autumn as a precocious little girl. When he hears the podcast, he knows he wants and needs to meet Autumn again. He instantly feels his heart open up to this mom and little girl. But he’s broken himself. They deserve something so much more than he can offer them but he can’t stay away.

“There’s a force pulling me to her. Untamed, strong and confusing.”

As these three begin to spend time together, something wonderful happens, they begin to heal each other. Autumn is adamant that whatever is happening, they keep a secret so they don’t confuse her daughter. In a way, this is good because it forces Zach to take things slow instead of being his usual impulsive self. They start to become a family without even realizing it, until that new tenuous bond is tested. Will it hold and they come out the other side better then ever? Or will it be the end of them?

“Talking to her feels safe.”

What a beautiful story. Let me say first that little Matilda stole the show in this book. This little girl who has the emotional level of a grown woman and is just adorable. I loved the influence Zach had on her. Autumn was so strong, with so much weight on her shoulders and I loved the way Zach did whatever he could to ease her way. I loved his little gestures and I also loved that Autumn accepted them. I believe that Autumn and Zach were meant to be all along. That they just had to get to this point in their lives before they were ready for each other. I loved meeting the St. James family. The next book in the series will be Zach’s twin brother, Burke’s story in Something Like Love.

▪️Until Next Time is book #1 of Against All Odds: St. James Family series by Claudia Burgoa. It is told from both points of view, a standalone with a happy ending.

Genre: Contemporary Romance.
Tropes:
➵single mother
➵billionaire
➵friends to lovers
➵slow burn

Claudia Burgoa launches a new romances series with this sweet and heartwarming story about two broken hearted people who are trying to get through the stages of grief and find in each other the strength and happiness they never thought they could have.

Successful business owner Zach St, James lost his wife of six months in a car accident. Autumn Wickerton also lost her partner and her daughter’s father in a car accident. And it’s Matilda, Autumn’s daughter, who askes an influencer/pod caster to help her mother find a husband and a father for her.

As it turns out, not only did Zach hear the podcast but he also knows Autumn through her older brother, as they used to be friends. He knows he wants to get to know this older version of Autumn but is also aware that he has his own baggage. But as they get to know each other they also start to heal and form a family.

The story starts off slowly with Autumn and Zach’s stories being told separately several years prior leading up to their meeting at a bit over the 30% mark. This, for me, was somewhat unfamiliar, but I did enjoy getting to know them as individuals and as a couple, as well as all the supporting characters, of whom I liked Matilda the most. She absolutely stole the show.

5 Star Review Until Next Time (Against All Odds: The St James Family #1) by Claudia Burgoa

AUDIO REVIEW:

Having read numerous books by Claudia Burgoa I was excited when I learnt about this series and couldn’t wait to dive in. From the first chapter to the last I felt as though I was on an emotional roller coaster of a ride.
Until Next Time is an emotional, extremely well written story that ticked all the boxes for me. There is so much heart and soul in this book that my review is brief. My emotions were all over the place and there were times that my heart almost broke for all that Zach and Autumn have been through. This is a book which is at times, sad but it is the love and family that really shines through and takes it t another level.
The narration by Jason Clarke, Ava Erickson and Brooke Bloomingdale was spot on for the characters in my opinion and they all did a wonderful job in bringing the characters they portrayed to life for me. Their voices are easy to listen to and I couldn’t help but be drawn into their performances.
This is one book that I highly recommend you read. It is the first in her latest St James Family series and if this book is anything to go by, then she has a winning series on her hand.

I am such a huge fan of Claudia's writing, and I couldn't wait to get my hands on Zach and Autumn.
This is the tale of two people that have suffered a tremendous loss. Zach having lost his wife and Autumn losing her boyfriend. What can bring these two broken souls together? The wish of a little girl, a podcast and few meddling friends and family.
Autumn is a mom with no time for herself. She is raising a little girl is 4 going on 30. Too smart and cute for her own good. Zach is just going through the motions of life. He is running his business and just getting by, until the day he is visiting his late wife's sister and ease drops on her podcast. Autumn is a blast form the past and he soon finds her taking over his thoughts. A chance or not so chance meeting now puts them right in front of each other. This might be the best thing that could have ever happened to either one of them. Zach may have won over the cute little Matilda, but her mom is going to take a bit more wooing. Can he convince these girls that they are more than just a passing fancy for him, he wants to make them his world.

It's no surprise if you've been following me for a while that I am a huge fan of Claudia Burgoa's RomCom's as well as her more serious books, UNTIL NEXT TIME is a combination of both.

Zach and Autumn both have lost their significant others but there is one big difference between the two, Autumn has a daughter, Matilda, that she is raising on her own and has had to push her grief aside to be present for her, whereas Zach is drowning in his grief. It's really sad but then he is witness to a podcast call where an adorable little girl is looking to help her mom find a husband and herself a dad...now doesn't that just break your heart. Can we say Shock and Surprise are the theme of the day because not only was everyone surprised that the caller was so young but Zach was floored that he actually knew her mom from high school because he was best friends with her brother.

Claudia starts the Against All Odds: The St. James Family Series off with a twist on Sleepless in Seattle that I absolutely loved. We have great characters that have amazing chemistry, an adorable little girl that wants nothing more than her mom to be happy, a great collection of secondary characters that I cannot wait to get their stories, and we are reunited with some couples from the past. UNTIL NEXT TIME will have you laughing out loud, shedding some tears, and grabbing for a glass of ice water to cool off, so be prepared.

I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys RomComs, Single Parent Romances, Contemporary Romances, Siblings Best Friend Romances, Love after Loss Romances, or New Adult Romances.

Happy Reading!!!

One of the greatest joys for a reader is finding a talented writer whose work you can trust, and this gifted lady has yet to disappoint, with each new book being better than the last. And the best part of starting a new series like this is the anticipation and delight of falling in love with a whole new cast of characters.

With crossovers from Baker's Creek, Luna Harbor and the Brassard family, we're introduced to the St. James family of six brothers and one sister, beginning with one of the twins, Zach St. James. Zach may not have had the best example of romantic love from his parents, but he’s the only one of his siblings who has taken a chance on love. And tragically lost. Mired in guilt and regret, he spends all of his time helping others rather than working through the pain and allowing himself to move forward in life.

Autumn Wickerton is far too familiar with loss but she lives every new day for her daughter. She works three jobs while going to school and trying to be both mother and father to a very precocious five-year-old. Matilda is five going on thirty, and she just wants her mom to be happy. To have some fun in her life. And maybe to find a new dad for her. But Matilda's chatting with a wildly popular podcaster in her quest for a new dad has unintended consequences. And maybe, some unexpected blessings.

This one is hilarious, heartbreaking and so much cuteness. Zach and Autumn deal with their loss in different ways but they understand each other like no one else can. The sense of family, both found and by blood, is strong and inspiring, with good-natured teasing but always being there for one another. And then there's Matilda. This adorable, brilliant child stole every scene! I fell in love with all of these characters and can’t wait for the next romance in this series.

Masterfully written and full of humor, heart, and healing, this exceptional story will be one of your best book escapes this year! Make sure you don’t miss this phenomenal, heartwarming, memorable read.

4.5 stars. Loved, loved, loved Zach, Autumn & Matilda. Once again, in the beginning, I'm a little confused at first trying to sort out whose who and which family they belong to in this BIG fun cast of characters. It's my fault as I've read the last 2 books out of order. Will start book 1 in this series next, and hopefully, that'll be easier.

Zach, Autumn & Matilda, they grab your heart right off. Sassy Matilda is hilarious. This is a cute, sweet story and a quick, easy read. I'm hooked now. Gotta finish out the series.

Meg, Tom and maybe even Billy would approve

A blend of some of my favorite RomComs, Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail and just a sprinkle of When Harry Met Sally.

This is the continuation of Burgoa’s Against All Odds series. The original trilogy ended with the Brassard family finding love. All except Callie. When her character met an untimely demise I was really sad.
True, she wasn’t the most like-able person, yet the author has a way of redeeming even her most tragic H/h characters, so I was stunned to see her go.
Finding out her husband was kicking off the new series was unsettling for me.

I’m really glad I took a chance on Zach. He has the biggest heart and was the most afraid of being hurt so he simply hid his away. Finding Autumn again, and having that re-connection be through Percy brought him and their family the closure they all sought.

Matilda was a delight. The storyline was not over the top, had a fair amount of angst, maybe a little light on the smexy moments, yet it was filled with honest emotion.

Wondering who’s story is next?

Ugh this was hard. The storyline was so cute with the sleepless in Seattle vibe, but it was really hard to follow. The best word I can think of is that it was choppy. I caught myself many times stopping and having reread things just figure out where the storyline was going. Sorry, I really wanted to like this one.

"There is nothing better than getting to read a book from an author you love and trust, Until Next Time fits that bill.

Zach and Autumn’s story was so much fun to get lost in. And, what better than a 7 year old match maker to help you find your true love. This book has it all, fun, heartbreak, saucy times, and lot’s of laughs.

Get ready to meet a whole new cast of characters, can’t wait to see what’s next." ~Stephanie

"A little slow going for me in the beginning, but with #1 in a new series, that's usually the case. It did pick up and dropped glimpses of a few familiar names. This is a slow build, not-quite second chance, put your pieces back together, feel good story.
Zach and Autumn share a similar experience which gives them a common ground. What starts out innocent enough, starts to grow into something more. Understandably, they both question everything from timing to legitimacy.
Being a single mom, Autumn questions not only for herself but for her daughter too. Matilda is a fun character. she's 6-7 going on 35 and has a comeback for just about everything. She just wants her mom to be happy and has an unconventional way (with a little help) of going about it.
Zach doesn't have roots, he's too busy running away and building his business in different cities to think too much about it.
They both have supportive families, but none of them really understand. They want to, and try to be supportive but without having gone through it themselves, they just don't get it. When the ish hits the fan though, they are there lending whatever support is needed.
I'm looking forward to the next St. James..." ~Shirley

Until Next Time was a sweet and swoony second chance romance that made my heart squeeze in all the best ways. I loved that this romance explores a couple who have both lost someone in past, and learn to love and trust again with each other. Zach and Autumn have faced so many challenges in the past, and I fell in love with their journey to find a HEA together.

This audio is narrated by Jason Clarke and Ava Erickson with Brooke Bloomingdale. Jason and Ava were swoony perfection in this audio. In Jason's performance, you could feel Zach's conflicted emotions and deep desires as he finally accepted what he really wanted and needed in his life. (So dreamy!) Ava embodies Autumn in her performance emphasizing her doubts, fears and wants as she strives to do what is best for herself and her daughter. Their chemistry was magnetic!!

Overall, I loved this audio, and I look forward to more from the St. James Family and Claudia Burgoa.

Grief has no time line and Zach had intention to ever take a walk with love ever again! He has his businesses and was content until one fateful phone call lead him to a girl from his past who was no longer a girl but a beautiful woman! When Zach set his eyes on Autumn he was struck but he also saw the grief he carried mirrored in her eyes and it became his mission to make her smile!

This story was definitely full of some very heart wrenching, soul searching moments! As you read this story you can’t help but be right there with these two as they find their way! I loved seeing characters from old Burgoa books that I love and can’t wait to see more of this hilarious family because there’s going to be a lot in store for the St. James family!

What an amazing read.
Here we start the story of the St James family.
It a crossover series from Bakers Creek, Luna Harbour and the Brassard family so we get to interact with a few of our favourites and much loved characters.
This book was heartbreaking, funny and cute... so many emotions.
Zach and Autumn are both dealing with their grief differently, but this is what helps them understand each other perfectly.
Throw in an adorable 5yo Matilda who steals your heart and these 3 are destined to be together.
But how do you move from friendship to more if you don’t believe you deserve happiness?
This was a wonderful story about healing and forgiving yourself.
To truly believe that what you want is exactly what you deserve.
Great start to what I’m sure will be an amazing series.

I was given an ARC but voluntarily chose to review

Love, love, love Zach and Autumn! But my fave is Matilda!! This book is all sorts of swoony and deserves more than the 5 stars I give it. The author has such a way with words, her plot, characters and everything in between never ceases to amaze me. I love how there is six-degrees of separation with characters in Claudia Burgoa’s books. I’m always like, ‘hey, that’s so and so from so and so.’ This is a highly recommended read!

Audio:
Oh em gee. Zach and Autumn have such a sweet story but Matilda though. She is so adorable! This one packs all the cuteness… laugh out loud moments, all up in your feels and just overall another exceptional Claudia Burgoa book. This is another memorable one, the author is always giving us unforgettable reads.

This is only my second book by Claudia and I can't believe I've waited this long to start reading her work. This book was something else. I don't know what I was expecting but this was not it.

Zack and Autumn were such a great characters to fall for. They both had tragedy happen to them and were floating through live. But thanks to brilliant little girl they find themselves in each other's life and the rest is history. Well it wasn't that easy but at the of the day they had to fight and heal in order to make each other happy.

This is/was a great way to start the series and I'm more than ready to see where we're going next.

I liked the story but the pacing was soooo off and the jumping around made me a bit confused. Cute kid but the romance could’ve been a bit more fleshed out and the ending was very rushed. Also, the lack of an epilogue really pushed this to 3 star territory

Single mom Autumn Wickerton has spent years trying to build a life for herself and her precocious daughter Matilda, working two jobs and going to school at the same time. She knows things aren't perfect, but she never expected Matilda to secretly email a popular relationship podcast and ask for help finding her mom a husband. Podcast host Persy Brassard immediately thinks of her brother-in-law Zach St. James as a potential match. Surprisingly enough, widower Zach already knows Autumn; he was best friends with her brother Aiden while they were growing up in the Seattle suburbs. Even though he's still grieving the loss of his wife, Zach can't help taking an interest in Autumn's situation, so he decides to look up his old friend Aiden to get more information on her. He and Autumn reconnect after running into each other outside Aiden's house, and while she tries to keep him at arm's length, there's something that keeps drawing him back to her. She understands his grief because she's lost a partner too, but could the real reason be that Autumn and Matilda represent Zach's hope for the future?

"Until Next Time" was a funny, sweet, and emotional story that featured well-developed, endearing characters and a fast-paced plot. The book started off with Zach and Autumn's stories being told in parallel for about two years, beginning with Zach's wife Callie's funeral and leading up to Autumn's daughter Matilda sending the email to Zach's sister-in-law Persy. Even though it was a somewhat unusual structure for a romance novel, I really liked getting to know the main characters independent of each other and their relationship. I could tell that they were going to be a good fit for each other even before they met again as adults, which made it easy for me to root for them as a couple.

I very much enjoyed this book and would recommend it for all fans of contemporary romance and romantic comedy. I look forward to learning more about the St. James family in future stories.

Until Next Time is the first book in the Against All Odds: The St. James Family series by Claudia Burgoa. I did not expect to love this book and characters as much as I did. Not only is this a sweet, heartwarming, and touching romance, but it also addresses how people grieve the loss of a loved one especially in the case of it being a partner.

Zach St. James lost his wife of six months, Callie Brassard, in a tragic accident. One would expect the loss of a partner to be traumatizing, but their relationship was toxic and it affected Zach deeply. Two years later, he is still broken and struggling with the loss. Zach is the owner of a successful chain of coffee shops and has made it his mission to help people to reduce his feelings of guilt.

One day he comes across a little girl’s wish to help her single mother be happy while visiting his sister-in-law for her podcast. This little girl’s mother, Autumn Wickerton, lost her partner in a tragic car accident. Six years after her death she’s still grieving and living for her daughter Matilda. Zach feels this strange connection to Matilda and wants to help both her and her mother. What he doesn’t expect is to heal his broken heart and find the family he didn’t know he wanted.

This book was so emotional and heartbreaking, yet cute. Reading about the losses both Zach and Autumn experienced was so sad, but the way their family came together was adorable. Matilda was the cutest seven-year-old girl and I absolutely adored her character. Each of the characters, their stories, personalities, and emotions were crafted with such care I couldn’t help, but fall in love with them. This book was an emotional rollercoaster of a read and it is written beautifully. This book was a phenomenal and truly memorable tale of love, family, grief, and healing.

Until Next Time is one of my favorite books by Claudia Burgoa and I devoured this in one sitting.

Until Next Time by Claudia Burgoa was a sweet love story with layered emotions. Zachary St. James stole my heart and all the stars is for him. And for the cutest and most shiny little girl ever, Matilda.

Zach lost his wife in an accident. Since then he has lived an incomplete life and doing missions to make other people's lives better. One day a little girl calls the famous relationship podcast his sister-in-law Persy Brassard hosts and asks for help to find love for her mommy who is single since her father died and who works too much to keep her happy. And Zach recognised her mother, Autumn. She is his old best friend's sister. He feels this insane urge to help them but Autumn doesn't want to take the risk to get Matilda hurt. They agree to keep it casual as they want to explore the chemistry but it's too much.

I loved Zach. Too much. He has the biggest and most compassionate heart. He has a lot of emotional baggage from his unhappy marriage and his wife's death. He was suffering from guilt and bitterness and used his brand new projects of opening Cafe Fusion all over the country as a coping or escape mechanism. Autumn and Matilda made him want to settle again. To love again. He can be a bit overwhelming and go to extremes to show his feels. I loved Matilda. She is a memorable kid. Smart. Funny. Progressed beyond her age.

Unfortunately, I did not like Autumn much. I do understand she was hurt and she is afraid of heartbreak again. But she kept on pushing Zach away and asking for distance even when he was nothing but sweet and helpful. At one point of the story, I felt she is using Zach while taking his time and care and sometimes material benefits but not giving him an inch of her soul. And it dragged till the end when an emergency made her realise that she is wrong. Too much was packed in last 10% and the pace was uneven. Also the author used a lot of characters from her ofher books for various roles. While I got all the mentions as I have read almost everything she has written in last 3 years..I feel new readers may find it difficult to process so much information.

I love Claudia Burgoa's writing. I love how she brings emotions and passion and specially the magic of family bonding. Until Next Time may not be my favorite but it's still a good book.

What happens when a seven year old precocious matchmaker tries to set her mom up with a heart broken widow? You get a heartwarming, hilarious single mom and second chance at love romance with all the feels and charm. Once I started reading Until Next Time (Against All Odds: The St. James Family #1), I fell completely and madly in love with it! And it has a Sleepless In Seattle vibe….YES PLEASE!

Zach St. James and Autumn Wickerton are good souls and after everything they’ve been through, they deserve good things in life. Their journey is a wonderful blend of emotions, swoon worthy moments and passion. The emotional and sexual chemistry between them is on point. And their banter is flirtatious and snarky. Couple that with Autumn’s ever so sassy daughter, Matilda (I was in stitches laughing at her antics) and it’s absolute perfection. Claudia Burgoa is one of my favorite go to authors for romantic comedies and she definitely came through with this book.

The secondary characters including the Brassard and St. James’ families are an excellent contribution as they bring great depth to the storyline. It’s also a good introduction as to what’s to come for The St. James family and I’m definitely looking forward to that. Until Next Time can be read a stand-alone and you don’t want to miss out on this swoon worthy and touching read.

5 Star Review Until Next Time (Against All Odds: The St James Family #1) by Claudia Burgoa

This is one book that I highly recommend you read. It is the first in her latest St James Family series and if this book is anything to go by, then she has a winning series on her hand.

Autumn Wickerton and Zach St. James are both grieving the loss of a loved one. They knew each other as children but hadn't seen each other in years. A child's call in to a radio show brings them together again.

The St. James family is loud, messy, and all up in each other's business. With five brothers (one of them his twin) and one sister, Zach has no privacy. The second chance he and Autumn get and try to keep on the down low is oh so not kept private. Autumn struggles to get by with her precocious daughter Matilda, holding down three jobs and going to school. She doesn't have time for a relationship nor want her daughter to get attached to someone who will inevitably walk out on them. She is also terrified to love again because it hurts too much when they are gone.

Despite the obstacles, Zach pursues and perseveres. I love him! We also see the Brassards and Chadwicks from Claudia's other series!💖. I can't wait for the next book in this series, Autumn's brother Aiden's story!

4.5* Meant to be Stars

This was a sweet and heart-warming second chance at love for both the Hero and Heroine.

Zach and Autumn have both suffered losses of loved ones in tragic car accidents, for Zach it was his wife of only 6 months and for Autumn it was her high school sweetheart and father to her daughter Matilda.

The only way Zack can cope with the grief and guilt is by working tirelessly growing his business and putting everyone before himself, he has the biggest heart!

Autumn copes through being the best mother to her daughter Matilda who is such a breath of fresh air, so adorably cute and very funny. I loved their closeness.

When fate intervenes into the lives of Zack and Autumn, loves blossoms and families are reunited.

A lovely addition was catching up with the hilarious Persy and her podcasts.

I look forward to the next instalment in the St James Family!

This book.....oh this book. It will consume you. These characters are incredible. Zach who dedicates his life to helping and saving others. Does he do it to avoid his own feelings and dealing with his grief? Possibly. Autumn who devotes her all to her daughter, working 3 jobs, going to school, all to provide for Matilda. Has she processed her grief from losing Matilda's dad? Probably not. Matilda, oh this girl. She had me laughing out loud from the moment I met her. She is a force in this book.

Claudia Burgoa has gifted us a single parent, brother's best friend, friends-to-lovers romance of Epic proportions. With appearances from some of our favorite characters from her other books: The Brassard/Chadwick clan, Seth, Byron, and Pierce; as well as some new favorite characters I hope to see in the future. This book is one you will not want to put down. I quickly fell in love with the St. James family, and can not wait to see what is in store for the rest of the family.

This is the first by Claudia but definitely not the last. I absolutely feel in love with her writting style.

I believed that the book was too slow but later I realised it was essential to understand the characters to know what they went through. It was amazing to read about Zach and Autumn's journey and understand what they have been through.

In love with Matilda from her first introduction she is like a spitfire. You cannot stop yourself from loving that kid. The remaining St. James are fun and make you fall in love with them I just cannot wait to read about the next. Also, can't wait to read about the Brassard siblings.

The read was an epitome of emotions. It gives you  hope about second chances. This book had a different take on Brother's bestfriend which I absolutely loved. I couldn't get enough of all of them.

I received an ARC copy for a honest review 😊.

Single parent romances would have to be one of my favourites and Claudia Burgoa did not disappoint with this one. Matilda was just adorable and it was easy to see how she could make everyone around her fall under her spell.

I loved seeing Autumn and Zach grow together and learn from each other especially when it came to dealing with their grief. This was definitely one of those where they came together just as they most needed saving. I loved reading their story and am very much looking forward to seeing where this new series goes.

This was a very confusing book, the time jumps were so odd to me because one moment I was reading what was happening one year then it jumped to years down the track. It felt all over the place honestly and I didn't vibe with any of the characters at all. The use of the characters last names were thrown about and overused so many times that it got super annoying and repetitive. Also the use of Greek Goddesses/Gods as the Brassards family names was also very odd and I didn't understand why the author chose to use these names. Overall I give this book a 2 star rating.

Zach is devastated at the death of his wife. Zach just keeps up with his philanthropy as a way of getting through his fog. Callie’s death makes him feel sad, angry and guilty. Zach is then put in the path of an old childhood friend Autumn who is sadly mourning the death of her husband. Zach in his selflessness works at making life easier for Autumn and in the process works through many of his own issues. Love this story of hope and love, kindness and caring going a long way in this world!
