反派邪魅一笑 [A Smile from the Villain]

Rate this book
As a person who transmigrated into a novel written by himself, Qin Kaiyi experiences a huge pressure and burden.

Even more so, he transmigrated as the villain and is forced to follow the plot. Qin Kaiyi expresses that he doesn’t want to write novels anymore.

Qin Kaiyi: “WTF. transmigrating into the villain and being forced to follow the plot. Just let it be. Shen Feixiao, can you get the f*ck down from my body???

Shen Feixiao: “Shixiong, I won’t.”

Alright, actually this is just a s*upid story about transmigrating into his own novel as the villain and getting pushed down by his own protagonist.

oh wow this book was a wild ride. it's definitely not romance, so there's that. it's more on obsession, control and refusing to let go. i enjoyed reading it, despite the plot-holes and all the WTF moments. i felt like there was a huge buildup in the world of the book and it was kinda anticlimactic too? however, somehow, these two characters work, or at least barely hang on together, no matter the setting due to their obsession. nice.

This scene:
"If I kill you, you can go home?"
"." Qin Kaiyi didn't speak, but his facial expression gave Shen Feixiao his answer.
"Then have you thought about me?" Shen Feixiao looked at Qin Kaiyi, who seemed to be somewhat guilty but didn't know what to say. "Have you ever thought of how I would live in this world after having killed you?"
"." Oin Kaiyi froze for a while.
"What will happen to me when I kill my beloved person?" Shen Feixiao's breathing gradually became heavier, and he looked at Qin Kaiyi with grief: "Have you never thought on my behalf?"
"But... I just want to go home,"

BEWARE of SPOILER

The novel started out like The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System but, halfway towards the end, it turned into a yandere ML + Stockholm Syndrome MC. The writer said that it's a HE but, to each their own. It's a recycle plot which the writer tried to carry as best as they can but, the second half could have a bit more fluffiness to it. It felt suffocated because I wanted to root for the both of them but, I just couldn't.

At first it was fine, near the ending it was fucking amazing and the ending was disappointing. Why even bring that kid out of nowhere?! My god, I'm childfree, spare me from childrearing stories, I skipped fast forward that.

Anyways...
Compared to the few transmigration and system stories I've read, this one had the main character still follow the villain plot, which I really liked. Also, the MC as a transmigrator desperately wanted to go home which also made a lot of sense. Many transmigration stories have the MC just accept the book world and forget about their former world. This one also has the nice twist of the author transmigrating into his own book, which as an amateur writer myself sounds terrifying.

I liked that during almost all of the plot, there was no romance. MC did what he had to do to go home and he at first felt pity for the poor protagonist. Afterwards, wondering what the hell went wrong with the protagonist, he starts to be really scared of him. This level of fear and dread went over my expectations, the depictions of MC's mental state ranging from depression to a mania-like state were so intense! It was amazing! Those scenes were brutal, but it didn't feel out of context for this story, the ML is crazy, he knows it himself.

There was not much room for romance or fluff, but I don't feel it had to have been. I read this story as a psychological horror, for which the majority of the plot (excluding the ending) worked very well. I really liked the idea that after he finally went home, he was dragged back into the book. I'd rather think of that as the real ending rather than forcing the family life with the kid onto the MC.

Comparing it to SVSSS - Shen Feixiao feels like a crazier Luo Binghe, but at the same time Binghe was more entertaining as a character. I could say the same about the respective MCs.
For some reason the cruelty reminded me of Wu Chang Jie, but while in WCJ I'd say the most representative emotion was hate, here it would be fear.

All in all, this book's MC was drawn into a huge mess that he couldn't handle and fell prey to the protagonist he wrote himself. In my opinion, this is a story that doesn't need fluff/domestic life because it's not a love story; it's about the terrifying obsession to own someone and the helplessness of being trapped.

Someone recommended this novel to me and I started it knowing that it was a dark story, that the ending would be bittersweet, and that it was about an abusive and toxic relationship. And that's what I found, so this time I didn't find any unpleasant surprises but...

First, the novel is very poorly written. Too many time jumps, characters doing incoherent things for the sake of the plot...

Second, the protagonist. His personality is so frustrating! All of his actions are so stupid that I almost abandoned the novel several times. More than the role of the protagonist, he always seems like a puppet in the hands of the other characters, the plot, and the author. He barely makes decisions, he is always being forced by circumstances to act... and he never changes. There is no development in his personality simply because his personality is flatter than a sheet of paper.

And he is the AUTHOR of the book and doesn't know the personality of his characters or the plot. It's been all so inconsistent that grrrrr... *angry noises*

Third, rape.

But what I've hated most is the feeling of inevitability. No matter how hard you fight, it's useless. You cannot escape either the plot of the book or the fate that randomly befalls you. And the protagonist doesn't even try! It was a very frustrating read.

Also, the ML's insane obsession and his darkening is due to the kindness of the protagonist. Is that the message the author wants to convey? That no matter how hard you fight, you're still doomed, and good deeds are useless?

My guilty pleasure are yanderes. And, though I obviously don't agree with it outside of fiction, it's interesting to read stories with confinement, Stockholm Syndrome, obsession, etc... If you don't like these things and can't tolerate them, you will not like this story. This story is f*cked up. But, on to my actual review.

I dislike systems in stories generally and this did not change my mind. It's more enjoyable for me to see a character act without restrictions — especially when they have no way to return to their world. I also thought that the system tasks were kind of useless. Instead of saying "have the MC do this to the ML", it would have been better for the task to be "make sure the ML gets to BLANK". That would have given the MC an infinite amount of ways to progress the story aside from abusing or hurting the ML.

The confinement in this novel was not great. First off, we see it in the MC's dream but never get that dream realized. It's such a short part of such a long novel that didn't seem written as well as it could have been. On that topic, I feel like after a while the point of Yan Gu (the MC's fire spirit), Zhang-whatever Pei (rival ML), and the sable were kind of just there as filler characters. There was not really a big purpose to them or true, in-depth character development.

Last, but not least, I was so confused by the transmigration back to the real world. Forgetting that there's a chapter in the midst of this arc where the MC goes back to the cultivation world and then that's never explained or delved into, even in the real world, the ML isn't given any lovable characteristics. I would root for him more if he had more passionate love than just cold obsession. But, I have to admit I appreciated the realistic take the author took. Either way, I think the story is fine the way it is.

All in all, if there weren't so many issues, I would give it five stars! I ate this up and loved all of it. There wasn't really any lulls or parts where I felt the plot dragged, though I feel it could have been shortened. Still, would recommend to people who have this taste.

I was hoping for something funny and a dark romance and instead I got boring and then suddenly a psychotic ML. The first disappointment is that the ML is 12 years old for the first 50 chapters so there's no romance there. It takes a long time to set everything up for, in my opinion, no good reason. Then when the ML grows up, he's not in love, he's just obsessed and slightly insane. The MC is literally scared all the time in the second half or depressed. I'm not adverse to dark romances, even dubcon ones, but can this novel even be considered a romance? The MC never had any thoughts of love and even at the end there was just resignation. The ML also didn't care if the MC loved him, he just wanted him to be by his side so there wasn't a real effort on his part to court him at all. Idk it just wasn't for me.

Summary: Qin Kaiyi is the author of a stallion novel and he gets transmigrated to his novel as the villain. He feels bad for his protagonist, Shen Feixiao, and helps him out in a disguise but is compelled by a system to hurt him to keep the original plot going. Shen Feixiao grows up and finds out Qin Kaiyi has been hurting him and helping him this entire time and gets obsessed with possessing him.

When I started read it, I’ve really expected to be abused and cry my souls out. Especially after I’ve read the reviews. But… it was a little sad, sometimes a little surprising. And that’s all. Even the ending is a happy one, in the end.

Yes, some may say that this ending is unclear, I agree. You can also say, it is not completely a happy ending, that’s partly true too. But this is a nice result after all the happened. And this is a realistic end. If they were separated it would feel unrealistic for me.

Also, I saw many people speak in reviews that they actually doesn’t have any love. It’s a difficult question. I can agree or disagree with it, because love is already something so philosophical to begin with. In the end and extras you can see that the relationship could still be developed, and they still can live happy in some comfort zone.

Yes, definitely the relationship road here is sad, toxic and mad. This is a true yandere, what’s more to expect. Maybe because I’ve read many novels about yandere I’m not shocked by how it’s ended or developed. Dunno.

I’ve put such rating because the story was boring, plot was very mediocre with plot holes and many question left. Also, it was disappointing, because I’ve really expected more of “tragedy” here, but it’s just a little sad novel to me with 50% expected outcome.

Read on your own responsibility. Don’t forget about warning and don’t read if it’s too tragic for you.

While I did enjoy some parts of this novel, I also found it to be too long at times (despite knowing that it was a slow burn kind of novel, but it still felt too forced at times) and I also felt like some of the intrigues or plot was lost at times. I also did get confused at some parts and had to re read them multiple times to understand them.

Also, it should be known to people wishing to read this novel that there are some heavy topics in it and if you are easily triggered or unable to read said topics, then this novel might not be the best choice for you.

Overall, not a terrible book but too many flaws for me to give it a higher rating.

TW: This novel contains graphic depictions of violence and torture, moderate (kind of) depictions of sexual assault, rape, and toxic relationship, and minor depictions of physical abuse.

Please do have this in mind if you want to try this novel out but are uncomfortable with heavy topics!

“I don’t know what on earth home means…” He lowered his head and pressed gentle and cool kisses on Qin Kaiyi’s forehead, one after the other. Shen Feixiao tidied Qin Kaiyi’s messy clothes: “I only know that I would go insane without you”

Chinese authors really have a knack for creating believable yandere male leads. I'm constantly amazed by the endless stream of books I discover featuring these tropes. I feel like im never gonna run out of them.

I wish this was officially licensed. I would pay a lot to read a proper translation. this story has one of the most yandere ML Ive encountered. He goes so far as to create a powerful binding spell that intertwines his body and soul with the MC, ensuring that if one of them dies, the other will also perish. He cannot accept any reality where his beloved isn't by his side. His entire existence revolves around spending his lifetime with him, and nothing else matters.

*sigh* i have nothing more to say.

I have nothing against batshit crazy yanderes and stockholm syndrome stuff but this was just not well executed...in fact it was a hot mess. I don't know if it's the translation I was reading or the original text was already like this but there were many points in the story where it felt like some parts were missing because the plot would suddenly jump to several scenes ahead 🫠 the main CP had no chemistry and the "romance" seems forced for the sake of the plot. I also didn't like how the MC, despite being the literal author of the book he transmigrated into, can be so stupid to the point of constantly getting deceived by the characters he created and falling into their schemes 😂 if you like this trope of "someone transmigrated into a book as the villain and somehow makes the hero fall for them", there are better ones out there.

I kept reading hoping thet it would get better. It didn't.
Yes, I was aware of the trigger warnings. What bothers me is the lack of common sense and development, most importantly: character development.
There is none. They are one dimensional caricatures of several mental health disorders portrayed badly, this is what I couldn't stomach.
And also the weird pacing. And the irony of having your fictional author mention the world self filling the plot holes when the actual author wouldn't recognize one even if she were to drop herself full body in one such hole.
Waste of my day, I regret picking this up.

it's 3.75⭐
the ending as anticlimactic as it was it's kinda fitting that being said read the trigger warnings and don't expect romance be ready for a dysfunctional relationship. This is not a redemption story at all so don't expect some redemption arc coz you're not gonna find it
