A credible and meaningful text for the initiate. Aurum Solis includes a clear definition of magic for readers who want to undertake a reliable study of magic, drawing on multiple sources. Ogdoadic magic employs the eightfold star as its symbol ofthe earnest search for union with the divine. By examining the history of Western civilization to illustrate the esoteric significance of the number eight in Western spiritual traditions, Kraft establishes the Order Aurum Solis in a 20th Century context.
If you're looking for stream lined Golden Dawn with a Greco-Egyptian veneer, this will be a good primer to get you started. If you're looking for an actual Greco-Roman or Greco-Egyptian magical system? This won't do you much good.
You get the basic occult 101 information touching on meditation, the need for daily practice, the Kabbalah, tarot, Jungian archetypes, some rituals to get started and a handy reading list at the end. When you check out that book list at the end, you'll see why this book gets a meh-out-of-five from me. The magic is based off of regurgitated Victorian-era eclecticism while most of the actual Greco-Egyptian practices were stashed in the history section.
I can't say the book is bad. I can say it's not what I was looking for.
