Been a while since I've last read this manga. Kind of forgot what's happening. Thank goodness for the plot summaries on the characters page in the tankobon! (In the meantime, I've collected 2/3 of Fairy Tail and all of Edens Zero...)

I feel like it's mildly pointless to have Haru evaporate after his battle, only to have him recover at the end of the same chapter. But okay.

I think I've said before that this manga's story resembles a JRPG. So it's only fitting Haru will defy God when Dalmatian tells him of the Sword.

After the Mermaid Arc ends, it seems Mashima didn't know exactly what he wanted to do next, so there are a couple throwaway self-referential chapters. Haru and the gang go to a forest village where demons based on Mashima and his editor live, and we learn of an in-universe manga following Haru's story. The fictional Mashima deliberates how to continue, including reintroducing the Jiggle Butt Gang. The next chapter reintroduces the Jiggle Butt Gang. But then Mashima gets into the idea of having Lucia gather bigger bad guys into a new Demon Card, and the volume ends with Jegan and a fleet of Dragons attacking Haru and friends.

Hiro Mashima continues to move this series forward with some changeups, fastballs and curveballs. He sometimes makes you wait a bit, and other times gives you exactly what you want on time. The first half of this volume felt like a cryfest! Lots of tears…but a lot of hope and so the volume delivered perfectly! The art and story are fast paced, and I feel as if this volume took me a records short amount of time to complete. But it is good stuff and not to be missed! Pages 129-148 were serious light reading, but funny.

A slower volume compared to the last like 4, but that is most likely because this is the end on one major arc and the start of the next. It does end with quite the bang though.

Hiro Mashima, Rave Master, vol. 18 (Tokyopop, 2002)

Ogre and Doryu are down for the count, and so there's time for a little R&R. But that doesn't mean all the enemies are gone. Demon Card have a plan to come back stronger than ever, and they're putting it into gear—and some of the gang's actions have unwittingly helped that plan along. Fun stuff, as usual. *** ½

Fourth Rave

We finally got the fourth Rave stone. Demon Card for even stronger! If you can believe that turn of events. Let's not forget dragons. Nuff said.
