What do you mean I can’t give more than five stars!?!?! This needs all the stars!!!!! I absolutely love this manga!!!! Mystia is oh so adorable as is just about every single character!!

Seriously, the art is amazing, there is no shortage of lovely, gorgeous characters to gaze upon. Which is definitely something I enjoy in a graphic novel. And the plot!!! It’s oh so very intriguing. I think this is great setup for the plot that is to come. I cannot wait!!! Like, seriously, I need the next couple volumes right now...

I haven’t liked something this much since Chobits or Ouran High School Host Club!!! This has the same level of bingeworthiness and awesomeness. Mystia and everyone falling for her is just soooo cute and makes my heart burst!! Of course I recommend this to all romance manga lovers!!! This series is going to be the best!! I can tell already!!

Thank you soooo soooo much to NetGalley, Tokyopop, and Independent Publishers Group for allowing me to read this for my honest and unbiased opinion!!!

I received this book from Netgalley/Publisher in exchange of an honest review.

So I am a big big fan of “My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!” and I was hyped to find another book featuring a girl getting reincarnated to be a villainess in the a story and seeing her desperately/in funny ways try to get rid of the death flags that come up.

In this one no Katarina, in this one we have a girl named Mystia Aren who on her tenth birthday suddenly started remembering her old life. About the game. About how she ended up her (truck-kun did it again peeps, bad truck-kun). I was happy that it wasn’t like in the other villainess manga in which Katarina hurt her head. In this one Mystia just wakes up at night, sees the moon, makes some remark and suddenly remembering happens. Throughout the manga we will see that she is slowly remembering more and more key events and tries to react to them so to change things. It was really nicely done though I can only imagine the shock for the girl finding out she reincarnated in the villainess of a game she played. Really, if I reincarnated let it be the heroine. Haha, seeing how much stress these reincarnated villains have is just not my cup of tea.

I really really liked Mystia and I loved how she tried to change her fate. I loved how she worked hard to befriend people, how she tried to learn tricks and little things that will come in handy later on, I loved how she tried to make the story right. Mystia is a supersweet girl and I rooted for her a lot. Hoping that no death flags are coming.

In this one we have yet to meet the heroine. The first chapter begins when she is 15 and in school and has a month left before the heroine appears. After that we switch to how it all started, at age 10. I definitely like that this was done, this way we can see more of Mystia before the heroine arrives, and see what she has done in the 5 years to get the attraction of so many hot dudes (yes, the guys are all pretty hot) and oh yes, her maid Melo. And if she managed to not turn into the villainess.

I also love love that we get POV of other characters in the story. Like Raid, but also Mystia’s parents recall Mystia’s past. I do hope that the next volume also adds these extra POVs.

The art is really pretty and I love the style.

All in all, I NEED MORE! This was just so much fun. I was a bit worried it may end up like “My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!” but it is different in many ways. I would highly recommend this manga and I hope it gets an anime adaptation.

Love the artwork of this one. It's a fun concept. I look forward to when they actually get to the school but I understand why they did a flashback to prior to introduce all the targets.
Mystia doesn't want the end that is supposed to happen, her incarceration and death, to occur so she is trying to remember the details of the game and make different choices. She's too sweet to be a villain and seems to be well on her way to changing her fate.
I wouldve liked a bit more villainy with the title what it is, but this will be a cute series anyway and I'll be continuing.

This is such a cute isekai manga! The first chapter is a bit confusing while the story is established, but once it's set up it's very interesting. It starts out with Mystia Aren, the daughter of a noble family, at the opening ceremony on her first day of high school in an otome game setting world, then the rest of the volume goes back to when the main character first wakes up as 10 year old Mystia after dying saving someone on our real world.

She's played this dating sim before, and Mystia is actually the evil rival of the main character - who had a very bad ending! So Mystia is determined to change the course of the game and set herself - and everyone else - up for a better outcome in 5 years time when the game's high school setting rolls around.

It's hard to reconcile the bold and selfless Mystia with the villainous deeds attributed to the game Mystia, and the Mystia in the storyline seems to be an amalgamation of the isekai heroine's personality and the personality of the character whose body/memories she woke up with. It's a really intriguing dynamic and I can't wait to read more!

A digital ARC of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley for review. All opinions are unbiased and my own.

I enjoy the "high school aged girl reincarnated as a villainess" genre and this one fits the bill nicely. It's not my absolute favorite of the genre, because I read "My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom" first and I am 100% Team Katarina, lol. Also, the characters are a bit more OTT in that one and it works for me.

The characters in this one are MUCH more subdued, so probably more realistic in a way. It's good too, please don't get me wrong, but the goofiness of MNL just hit the right spot.

This is definitely one I will be suggesting at the store and will pick up the rest of the series once it comes out.

4.5 stars, rounded down to 4, not quite MNL but very good and recommended if you enjoy the genre, stars.

My thanks to NetGalley and Independent Publishers Group for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.

What I expected was a ruthless and stunning villainess who would do anything to further her own agenda. What I got was a sweet little cinnamon roll who is far too precious for any world. Am I disappointed? No. Mystia is selfless, compassionate, and adorable. But she lacks the common cliches bestowed upon young female protagonists like herself in the romance manga genre. She is refreshing and delightful. The other characters that I have met so far have also been wonderful. I am very much looking forward to continuing Mystia’s story and meeting the remaining members of the main cast.

Rounded up from 3.5 - mostly bc the art is gorgeous here.

My friend Jenn asked me my opinion on it and as I was already intrigued enough to check it out (again I love otome villainess reincarnation novels) I fast tracked reading shen I saw I was auto-approved on NetGalley.

At this point I've read sooo many novels and comics with this premise that its hard to be like "how original", but this was cute.

Not much stood out aside from how gorgeous (like so pretty) the art is and every other chapter was a char who was NOT the MC describing how the MC changed their lives (for the better).

Most notably is her parents, who were worried because she kept wandering off to bring home "strays" (people) who needed a home/protection. Which explains why EVERY SINGLE SERVANT is devoted to her and hates letting anyone else be near her (up to and including her parents at times).

Interested to see where this goes, though it was queer-baity with the MC constantly wishing she was male or could just spend time with her maid (who she considered perfect and an Angel). Meanwhile the Maid constantly plots ways to keep her away from everyone else. Doubt it'll go that route, but they kept hinting at it.

I have not read the novel this manga is based on, so I have no idea of the story except for what's written on the blurb. Its beginning is very cliche as other isekai stories I've read, but the plot itself is interesting. I really love the visuals of this manga, so gorgeously illustrated. There seems to be a lot of characters introduced here but focused on one person for this volume, so I'm looking forward to reading about the rest.

DNF @ Ch. 12 of the Manga

1. Standard Villainess isekai setting. Not much else that's standard about it, though. And this proves, unfortunately, to not entirely be a good thing.

2. Mild Yanderes are a lot of fun in fiction, especially in leading roles. An extreme yandere or two adds some welcomes spice to the story, even if they make you uncomfortable. This manga gave me the answer to what would happen when about 80% of the cast is an extreme yandere, and the answer is "it gets pretty boring pretty fast."

3. Well okay. That's a bit harsh; I can think of circumstances where this would be a fun (in a thriller way, not a romance way) story. But all of that require the FL to be less bland. Yanderes are only fun when the person in the receiving end can give as good as they get. The FL here is a standard sweet, kind, trusting (outwardly serious variation) archetype. They do not match well with yanderes AT ALL.

4. Anyway, this story creeped me out sometimes, which I welcomed because I was very bored at all other times. Not a particularly fun experience. Moving on.

5/5 stars

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Mystia Aren is the daughter of a noble family. Her servants, classmates, and parents adore her. In general, she has a wonderful life! However, this world is actually a dating sim that Mystia used to play in her previous life. On top of that, Mystia was the evil rival who ruined things for the main character! Desperate to avoid that fate, Mystia strives to steer the game away from that outcome. Despite her best efforts, the love interests keep falling for her! Will Mystia become the evil rival from the game, or will she create her own story?

This was super cute! I already really like Mystia. Her efforts to steer the game a certain way are amusing, and I love how kind-hearted she is! Only two of the love interests are focused on in this book, but I like them both! I'm looking forward to meeting the others in future volumes. The art was beautiful too! There's a lot of humor in this book, and the romance aspect seems like it's going to be really good! It's honestly been a while since I've read a romance manga I've liked this much! I will definitely be picking up future volumes of this series!

I would highly recommend this series, particularly to fans of shojo and romance. Any fans of otome games will probably enjoy this as well!

Tokyopop.. save me, Tokyopop

I don’t usually dip my toes into isekai, so what tends to be conventional for the genre isn’t familiar to me, but this was really fun! I love the weird, quiet horror of living out a second life in some vague reality that you already know the milestones of. Quite fun, and a nice surprise trans character near the end!

This is in no way reinventing the wheel (and is SO SIMILAR to Bakarina that it's almost funny), but it's also a nice story and does make a few interesting changes. It's basically comfort food, and I'm here for that.

Randomly picked this one up on Hoopla as I normally read webtoons before bed but decided since I was in a manga readathon I should try and read manga instead. And this was everything I wanted in an Isekai! I'll definitely be reading more. Just good, sweet fun and like all my favourite Webtoons.

VIDEO REVIEW HERE: https://youtu.be/F8_nqXXglyQ

I loved this A LOT! I'm going to need to read it again to see if it really IS in my top 5 manga titles/series this year because this is exactly what I needed! It was light and fluffy and just an overall great story (with the occasional "odd" spot, but more on that in a moment)!

This is my first read in the "Reincarnated as the Villainess" genre and would say it was a great introduction! It genuinely has me wanting to read more of this genre, but I know for THIS manga I deeply loved Mystia's kind heart and loving attitude. While I'm not one to personality type characters, there was a scene near the end that hit me right in the heart because it was like me on page. While I'm definitely no Villainess (LOL!), I related so much to Mystia wanting to protect her family and servants as well as help those in need. She has such a big heart and I'm totally cheering her on in changing her doomish path! <3

I think the one thing that had me nervous is that I believe this IS a reverse harem and I'm not fond of those. We do meet two of the four guys in this volume and I'm definitely shipping Mr. Sparkling Prince with Mystia! He was different then I imagined and really hope that these two WILL get a happy ever after. Eric's backstory was…interesting. His was the weird spot for me because I didn't understand his reasonings to why he acted the way he did when Mystia first meets him. I also REALLYYYYY disliked when he called Mystia his mistress. Just no no no. (Especially when he calls her this they are TEN YEARS OLD.) So he will be one guy I am NOT cheering for unless he has a huge change of heart as the manga progresses.

Overall, I loved this manga so much! It was excellent and already pre-ordered volume two as I can't wait to see what happens next! Highly recommend if you like the redeemed villainess stories, but with a super sweet MC!

almost like if My Next Life as a Villainess was a thriller

A lot of isekai-type stories involving someone becoming the villainess have her being a nicer person than the original and that causing a ripple effect that makes people and the world itself better for it. This is not really like that. It’s almost the opposite. She is kinder than the original villainess, but it’s almost like the counter balance to that is that those around her are crueler. She is constantly helping those in trouble, but it’s like the universe is seeking balance and every time she is kind when she is meant to be cruel, the person she is kind to takes in that cruelty in their own personality.

There are only thirteen servants in her household (as opposed to the original story’s 100s), all people she saved and brought in. As such they all love her (in different ways) and are all obsessively protective and loyal to her. They won’t hire anyone else because they don’t trust anyone else. They would kill for her (suggests some of them might have even already killed for her). They would lock her up in the mansion and never let her out to keep her safe, if she would let them (sometimes it seems like they waiver between doing it anyway).

The love interests are the same. They are ready to kill each other to be with her or kill anyone that might mess with her. Suggests at least one of them has actively been making anyone who dislikes her “disappear”. Someone that isn’t even an official love interest has an entire family killed for endangering her. One of the love interests says he would cut off her foot to keep her from running away from him (not to her though). They are all borderline delusional and absolutely unhinged in their love and obsession with her.

While she is totally clueless.

It’s kind of like “My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!” She’s like Katerina (though she is smarter and less food-obsessed), she is kind and open-minded, but so blinded by the idea that things will follow the game’s plot even though she’s changed so much of the world that she doesn’t see that they’re in love with her. And even when they confess, she chalks it up as a phase that will pass as soon as they get closer to the game’s original heroine. Meanwhile, the original heroine sees her as a goddess and totally loves her (in an obsessive fan way, not romantically) and has no more interest in the male protagonists than they have in her.

Honestly, while I like her character more than Katerina and am enjoying the story overall, I feel so anxious for her. In some ways it’s more of thriller than a romance as half of the love interests seem like they’re one smile from her away from going full psycho and killing the other love interests and kidnapping her off to somewhere no one else can find them and just forcing her to marry them. The only reason the others don’t feel like that is because they’ve already basically decided they’re not worthy of her and are happy to just be psychos for her in the shadows.

I also feel like things are unfolding at a good pace considering how many characters there are that all are intertangled in what is happening and what already happened.

It’s funny, but also disjointed and the logic doesn’t hold up to even a cursory scrutiny. It’s like the author had ideas for funny scenarios and stuck them together as vignettes without considering how they might clash.

For example…her maid Melo loves her obsessively (it crossed my mind that it might turn yuri, because both expressed they’d marry the other if they were male) and is paranoid about Mystia’s safety should she be away from her side at any time. Mystia promises not to worry her, not to stray from her side, etc. But…Melo isn’t around in the chapters after that. Mystia wanders around an unknown house by herself, ends up befriending another kid, and hangs out with that kid for a month, even staying the night, and not a peep heard from Melo. I was also confused in how they met, since Mystia’s story left out that Melo was in a cage about to be sold as a slave…

Raid’s dad was a servant in his mom’s family and fell in love with her, so begged another family to adopt him so that he could offer a huge sum of money to marry her. It seems he must have taken her family name when they married…? So…did he get adopted, only to spend huge amounts of money to marry into a different family?? Why would any noble family agree to this adoption that only loses them money? Did this make sense? Then, why was the mom’s NEPHEW obsessively in love with her? Is there any backstory to how that craziness came about? Or why her stupid husband started to doubt his wife just because there was someone writing her letters? Why couldn’t they figure out where the letters were from? This is not an age of email, and their estates aren’t exactly small houses on a block where a courier wouldn’t be noticed. And btw, he’s not a “criminal” for sending letters.

Eri turns out to be a boy - his mother didn’t consider telling Mystia that? She even spent the night sleeping with him! No parent thought that was a problem? I also had trouble swallowing a story of how he suddenly became withdrawn. It’s one thing for her, an introvert and socially awkward, to feel that way, but Eri was a friendly and happy kid. Mystia took it totally in stride that this kid was covered by a sheet when they met and for the next month.

It has the same problem as nearly every “reincarnated as villainess” book, which is to worry incessantly and try to avoid the VERY BAD ENDING. Ok, well…don’t push the other girl off a cliff, drug Raid and claim to be pregnant, etc, and you’ll be fine.

I did like finding out why the servants were so devoted to her, since she rescued each one. Her parents…I don’t quite see how they became so extravagant and crappy just because they were trying to amass power because she couldn’t have more children…but then they spent all their money but recouped by selling some jewels? That doesn’t sound plausible.

It was entertaining, but I couldn’t give it more stars with all the flaws in basic storytelling.

This manga was okay. It's not what I expected. The main character is a 10-year old girl throughout most of this volume. She recalls some dark events from the otome game she played in her former life and now that she is supposedly in the game, she wants to set things right by saving and improving others' lives. It's not a romantic manga, since the characters are children, but it is implied that as she rescues the boys, when they grow up they will fall in love with her for it.

It's a good thing there was a synopsis spelled out on the back cover, because the beginning of the manga is so rough you really can't tell what's going on without that hint. It jumps around between the present time inside the otome game to an elite prep school, to the main character's past mortal life with her parents and sister, to the past of the otome game where all the characters are children. It's all jumbled together and on top of that, the translations in this manga are really, really awkward. For example, this run-on, convoluted sentence:

"Even though she was loved and had never experienced the harshness of reality, her hard gaze and emotionless manner of talking that denoted a hint of fatigue as well as the questionable way she feared and was wary of me, all of the things that made up Mystia Aren upset me."

I think I would have enjoyed the manga more if I hadn't been set up to expect it to be created like an otome, which it is not. There are no choice buttons or otome effects. She is literally living in another life but remembers her last one, where she was a normal girl in Japan who died too young.

There's also no explanation whatsoever for any of what's going on. Why/how was the main character reincarnated into a video game? Why doesn't she question it at all? All she does is try to remember the sequence of events so she can prevent other characters from doing what they were programmed to do. Never once does she wonder how she got into a video game in the first place, or question that this is her new reality.

One other thing I noticed about this manga. The main character's maid, also around age 10, is in love with her, and doesn't want her to get married to anyone else and wants to murder anyone who has hurt the main character. So right now it feels like she is being set up as the "evil lesbian" trope, where she has this delusion that she and the main character are destined and she'll stop at nothing to force her view of the world to become reality.

Really don't know what to think about this book. There were some interesting things but also some things I find really questionable, and the translations are not good.

Thank you to Tokyopop and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I have been a huge fan of Tokyopop since the old days, and I'm so excited to see that they are back in business! I remember when I was a kid, I would go to the bookstores and look for Tokyopop titles like Fruits Basket, Dramacon, Bizenghast, etc. Those are still some of my favorite series, even though they came out a long time ago. I was excited to get this ARC from them now that I'm reviewing books on NetGalley. It's like my life has come full-circle!

I was Reincarnated as the Villainess... by Ataka, Sou Inaida is a semi-fantasy shojo manga about a high school girl named Mystia. She realizes that she's inside of an otome game (which is basically a dating and life simulation game that is targeted toward women). Unfortunately, as the title states, she is now the villain of the game! In case you didn't know, in typical manga storylines, the heroine usually has a romantic rival who fights her for the affections of the main love interest. So how will Mystia deal with being the rival instead of the main character? That's a question that I was eager to find out.

Firstly, the art is beautiful. The first few pages are in color, which are gorgeous, and then like typical manga, the rest is in black and white with screentones to make up for the lack of color. Next, the storyline was surprisingly interesting. Instead of a girl fulfilling her wish-fulfillment fantasy of being the main character of an otome game, Mystia is cast as the villain(ess) and has to deal with knowing that she's not supposed to end up with the guy at the end. One of my main questions was whether she would fulfill her role and be mean to whoever is chosen as the main character, Or, would she try her best to help the main character get the guy? This story was interesting from start to finish. .I recommend for all fans of otome games or shojo manga readers in general. If you're intrigued by the premise, I recommend that you check it out when it comes out in a few weeks!

Please Be Happy

It has been a while since a manga has surprised me, but Sou Inaida has many lined up in this story. The plot of this manga is as lengthy as its title. So be prepared for a bit of a twisting narrative, as Mystia jumps through her memories. Mystia Aren may seem like a normal rich Highschool student, but her life is not what it seems. This is her second chance at life, inside a dating video game where she will grow up to be the villain. She’s played this game before, and she doesn’t like the fate that awaits her. Instead, she will do her best to change as much as she can before the main character arrives. Too bad she is in danger of making everyone genuinely love her.

Yes, this story is a bit of a stretch in most parts, but it’s more fun that way. Mystia is often oblivious to the effect of her various plans to change the direction of the game. Her biggest weakness being her big heart, and her own low self-esteem. The characters she helps, such as her fiancé Raid, never actually tell her why they love her. Which adds many layers of misunderstandings between her vision of value, and her fear of what will happen when the game ends. Ataka’s art is wonderful and moves this story through some of it’s more complicated transitions with all the shojo drama a reader could need. The outfits and character designs are over the top, and lovely to look at. Young Mystia is adorable!

There is light yuri in a one-sided love, and some gender bending. The characters become more than the two-dimensional figures of a game, as Mystia values their happiness and gives them purpose. Perhaps, in turn they may help her avoid a messy end. This is a fun and emotional story about helping others, so they may find a happier ending.

When a shy, nerdy girl from our world saves a child from being run over, she dies only to be reincarnated as the cruel villainess in the Otome (Boyfriend/Dating sim) game she was playing. in the game named Mystia Aren. In the game, Mystia came to a bad end. Can she change her future while still making sure all of the boys get their happy ending?

--

Okay, I admit it. I got this book purely because of the title. I mean, it's quite possibly the best title in the history of ever. And it's dead on accurate too. Like you don't need a blurb, just point to the title and go "This! This is the plot."

This manga leans hard on the Alternate Universe reincarnation trope. Hard. And it's lovely. Mystia goes through the events in her game backstory trying to make sure that she doesn't end up making the same mistakes that the game Mystia does. And in doing so, she earns the love and admiration of several cute boys.

Most of this volume takes place when Mystia is ten and gives us an introduction to the world as well as Mystia, Melo (her maid, bodyguard, friend, and possibly more), Eri (One of the potential love interests), and Raid Nocter (another potential love interest.) It's a bit slow and the POVs do shift which can be confusing.

The art style is absolutely lovely. Stellar. It is so good, y'all. Honestly there were parts of it I wanted to blow up and frame. It was so pretty.

This is a fun, shojo manga that's both lighthearted and serious at the same time. I look forward to reading more of this series.

Four stars.
