Murder . . . kidnapping . . . how far would you go to get attention?

A self-confessed murderer has kidnapped one of Meredith’s officers. They want Meredith to prove an apparent suicide was in fact murder. He’s working against the clock, as the kidnapped officer has been locked away with limited food and water.

Hodge is searching for the ex-husband of a prison inmate. She needs to establish he’s still alive or her client could be charged with his murder.
As their cases collide, they find that one man holds the key, and he might be dead.

This mystery novel had so many twists and turns that you did not know the guilty party till the end.

It was a very interesting plot with a sister trying to prove her sister didn't commit suicide. But in order to prove it she becomes a murder herself.

This book was entertaining and kept you engrossed throughout.

The narrator was very good.

Bristol is a busy crime area! I am thoroughly enjoying this series, each book grabs me more than the one before. I did think the antagonist's behaviour was a bit of a stretch, but, once I had accepted it, got into it, and am looking forward to the next one.

Book 3 in this series finds Patsy Hodge still apart from Detective Inspector John Meredith. He wants Hodge back, but the sudden appearance of Meredith’s almost adult daughter at the end of book 2 has put a crimp in their relationship.

Patsy is out for a jog when she hears a noise and, upon investigating, finds a dead man with a butcher knife buried in his neck up to the hilt. While she waits for the police, she can’t help but ask the man’s housekeeper questions. And who shows up to investigate but Meredith. One of Meredith’s team is kidnapped by a self-confessed murderer and the only way Meredith can help her is to prove an old suicide case was really murder. (The title comes from the dead woman's sister's belief that her sister, who always dressed to the nines, would never top herself while wearing mismatched lingerie and shoes that did not go with the outfit.)

Patsy gets a case of her own from a former colleague, now in jail. Patsy’s and Meredith’s worlds collide when Meredith is severely beaten by the men Hodge has been questioning. The person who might hold the keys to both mysteries might be dead.

I liked that Hodge’s and Meredith’s relationship continues to grow in this book, and Patsy and Meredith’s daughter, who is showing a talent for police work, strike up a tentative friendship. The way Patsy’s and Meredith’s personal and professional lives entwine and the give-and-take in their relationship rings true to me. The plots always come together for me in a very satisfying way. And the abrupt endings just make me long for the next book. Fortunately, I have book 4 queued up on my Kindle for reading.

Thoroughly enjoy this series (good enough to want to re-read sometime) and hope there will be more.

Marcia Turner is an author I trust implicitly to deliver a good story. From the beginning of The Wrong Shoes I was absorbed in the plot, and was carried along on an emotional rollercoaster, as Meredith and Hodge discover that life is never that simple, and as one story closes another unfolds. What I enjoyed most is how there is so many layers to this story which seem to build with each turn of a page to an excellent conclusion!
As this Is the third book in the series I am enjoying watching the main characters relationship grow and am looking forward to the next book.
I highly Recommend this series but start with the first book as the excitement builds and the characters grow with each book!

This is the third Meredith and Hodge book, and things keep getting better.

Meredith is pulled into a case where a retired police officer is found dead by Hodge.  The criminal is soon discovered. However, the criminal kidnaps on of Meredith's officers and refuses to tell him where she is until Meredith solves the case of her dead sister, whom she insists was not a suicide but a murder.

Hodge, meanwhile, is asked to investigate a missing person by the woman put into prison for his death. As developments continue the cases combine. Will the officer be found before Meredith solves the case and is given details of where she is being held, or will she end up dead because her captor is in custody and she has no further means of survival? And why are Meredith's and Hodge's cases related?

The story was more convoluted than the previous one, and I admit to being distracted occasionally while listening to it (doing multiple things), so probably missed a few clues on this. However, it is a very well written book, and the narration is as well done as ever.

M.TURNER/ the wrong shoes

In this series, of hodge, the cop investigator who work for merridith, the supervisor of crime dept. Of police dept. When they decided to live together , hodge left the force to become private investigator and part owner for chris, one of merridith many friends who has his own p.i. Co. Her assignment and Meredith ending up overlapping each other discovering one of Meredith own people being kidnapped, and trying to solved several murders and Meredith ending up in hospital. This series has so many plots and twist to it ,I couldn't put the book down ,had to read it through and had my intermission break to eat and get back to the story as it kept getting more intriguing to find out what happen in the end and whetting your appetite to see what happens next in this series. You really need to read from the beginning of the series to enjoy the dynamic of Meredith and hodge.

I am so addicted to this series. Meredith is so headstrong and intense in his desire for control it is almost comical. Hodge on the other hand is just a strong willed maverick in all she endeavors. That being said, especially in this novel, their huge sense of compassion and integrity are very obvious. This is a twisted in so many ways yet the tenacity of the human spirit shines in this novel in several characters. I hope that other readers find this novel as incredible a read as I did. I am looking forward to the next book. Meredith and Hodge are too much fun.

Another excellent story in the Meredith & Hodge series. Lots of twists and various plots involved and we get to understand a few more background details about some of the characters. Thoroughly enjoyable. The narration is expertly done and brings the book to life. Can't wait for the next one.

Nancy Bailey is convinced that her sister did not commit suicide three years ago, but no one believes her. So she takes drastic action to ensure that DCI Meridith will investigate the case. Meanwhile Hodge is employed by Kate Wilkinson to search for her husband Darren to prove to the police that she did not kill him.
An interesting and enjoyable well-written story. Really like the characters in this series.

Enjoyable as always

The saga of Hodges and Meredith is both endearing and exciting. I was a little challenged keeping up with all the twists this time but enjoyed it to the end. Unravelling the death of Nancy's sister takes on a multitude of complications and guilty parties not always what is expected. On to the next!

I can't wait for the next one. I really like these characters. I feel like I am right there with them while they are trying to solve their cases. I even got used to the Queen's English.
