Vikings of Virginia #3

Just Being Loki

Rate this book
Freya has friends, a home, and a strong marriage.

So why is she so afraid she’s about to lose it all?

Things seem normal at first, but when Loki starts acting … not like Loki, Freya smells something rotten in Virginia.

With Morrigan tied up with her long-lost love, perhaps literally, and Gravelbeard enjoying some much needed time off, Freya is on her own trying to figure out why Loki has lost his edge and become a doting, romantic fool.

But when Thor crashes into her town injured and afraid claiming sanctuary, Freya is more than a little nervous her carefully crafted world is about to come crumbling down around her.

She doesn’t believe in coincidences and the gods have never been afraid to play dangerous games to meet their ultimate goal of taking her down.

Freya might be trying to embrace her kinder, gentler side, but there’s a reason she’s the Goddess of Love and War.

It’s time to show the Asgardians exactly what she’s made of.

No matter who she has to take out in the process.

S.E. Babin has a passion for writing books with a paranormal twist. Whether it's romance or mystery, she loves taking the norm and turning it into the extraordinary. Her love of reading turned into a curious exploration to see whether or not she could write her own novel.

Beginning with random, terrible poetry and a slightly popular reimagining of Beowulf's Grendel in her high school English class, Sheryl spent way too much time in the library, killing any chance of her becoming a cheerleader or anything even remotely cool. This is a pretty short installment in the series but it fits in perfectly.
Things seem to be going pretty well although Dagda and Morrigan might dispute that when Thor collapses at the door of Freya’s inn, things start to get strange.
While assisting Freya to heal Thor, Loki comes across a magical shard that seems to come from the rock Fenrir is chained to. While trying to figure out how Thor got through the wards, Loki starts acting strange, it seems he is under a spell.
Now the group has to figure out what type of spell he is under, figure out what’s happening with the wards that seem to let a few people in with no reason, talk to Fenrir about how he got lose and a few other problems.
This book has an interesting story, the characters don’t act like you would think gods would, the character interactions are very enjoyable, there is magic, a bit of mystery and humour.
I’m just zipping through these books, they are quick, light, easy reading.

Loki becomes naughty.

Thor walks through the wards somehow. And falls down. He is badly beaten & close to death. Loki touches a rock that triggers a spell. The side effects make him hot for Freya. She has to practically beat him off with a stick. He ends up tied to his bed. Dagda is an interesting character. I'm not quite sure what he did to Morrigan but she stopped considering him and her husband and wife a long time ago. And he is another person who got through the wards. So did Hel. Morrigan brings up the truth to Freya. It has to be someone she trusts that is betraying her. The truth nearly blows her away. Loki gets kidnapped again by another god. Gravelbeard asks Eyra to marry him. Then they get ready to go after the traitor & second get Loki back.

I expect more

Short and rehashing general story line. Gave it a 4 star because of length, repeated info (ok, in a slightly different context) and a lot of grammatical errors. I have noticed quite a few throughout all the books but editing has changed over the years. I expect a few word offs for example: affect vs effect….their vs there. These are inevitable consequences of spell check and AI. But, in a 120 page book…..PLEASE. I like the story. It has many merits and some fun characters so I’m going to continue the series. Glad it’s on Kindle Unlimited however.

This is a continuation of the series and is not at all a standalone.

It is an OK read. I have a problem that, whenever the plot needs to be goosed, the author adds some new unknown characters. So, yeah, it moves along but don't try to anticipate where it is going, because the changes are rather random.

But quick and fun to read.

I love this series!

And can't wait for more.
I'm a big fan of Loki, and enjoy stories that show him in a different light. It is also particularly interesting to read the author's take on how the gods would fare on earth.

All's Fair in Love and War

Good plot. Characters you would love to meet. Action, beauty, and suspense. Hurry up and write the next one. Viva Trickster and goddess of love and war.

captivating

I so enjoyed this addition to the series. Many new characters emerged to enhance the plot. Another kidnapping of Loki, an old romance is reignited, a traitor is discovered and bonds between friends are reinforced. This is such a good read. Highly recommend.

I wanted more of a satisfying conclusion

This story is left with Loki imprisoned and Freya plotting war with Gravelbeard. I really dislike cliffhangers. Great story and really entertaining, but why did it have to end where it did?

good book

I like how this built on the story how it brought out depth in the characters and answers some questions.
