Bully's Second Chance

Rate this book
I remember every mean thing he said to me when we were neighbors a decade ago…

I hated him.

Jackson “Jax” Levy…
Billionaire, irresistible, more arrogant than I would ever be able to handle.
But as luck would have it, I didn’t have a choice but to put up with him.
Again.
Years later, him and I came together for a strange arrangement.
A secret arrangement.
I moved in with him to care for his dying father, and no one could find out.
The word of his illness couldn’t reach the media.
Lucky for him, I was good at keeping secrets.
I was also good at being an obedient employee.
But apparently, I wasn’t good at keeping my distance from him.
There was a part of me that still hated him.
But his touch sparked something in me that I never knew existed.
One thing led to another and all rules were broken.
All we were left with was a surprise.
A surprise baby that was about to change the nature of this impossible arrangement…

*Trigger Warning. There are some dark moments that depict abuse that may cause you distress.

You'll enjoy Lilly and Jax's story and as with many of J P Comeau's books, this story has many layers. You won't be able to put it down once you start reading so grab a comfortable spot and your favorite beverage. They were in high school together and he constantly bullied her. He had no idea of the hell she went home to each day with her horrible parents. Once in college she adopted Yuslan and Guadalupe at the spa as her surrogate parents. This book will have you in tears at times as it's emotional and heartwarming. When Lilly and Jax run into each other again he offers her a position she can't refuse. Take care of his dying father but disclose it to no one. The more they're together the more their chemistry explodes. This is a great enemy to lovers romance told only like JP Comeau can. The characters are amazing and the story line is engaging. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Review-
Honestly it’s a 3.5 star book for me. I don’t feel their their love connection at all until the very end. It’s more of a childhood bully then they haven’t seen each other for years until their paths crossed at a spa and then the next time he is her boss at his company. He’s demanding, mean, hateful and ticked off with Lily a lot and Lily takes it most of the time, she might have a backbone but no woman should have to deal with that kind of behavior from their boss.

Jax and Lily have a history from when they were growing up. Now years later they run into each other at a spa. Jax is in need of a secretary and thinks Lily is the one for him because she won't take his crap. Lily doesn't trust anything Jax says due to everything that happened in the past. However when he threw more money than she'd make anywhere else at her she knew she would work for him. Its not long before sparks start flying between them and lines get blurred. When she learns about his dad being sick and starts helping out there its makes things even more personal between them. Will Jax see that she's the one for him before its too late? Can they get their happy ending?

This is a great story that once I started it I couldn't put it down. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

This was a good read. Jax and Lily grew up together. Unfortunately Jax was a bully but years later they run into each other. She works for him and helps him with his father. This allows them to put their past aside and get their happy ending.

Lavender Dreams of Alto, Oscuro y Guapo and Family Come True

Psychologists argue whether it is nurture or nature that shapes a baby into the adult he or she becomes. Lilyanna DeMarcus was definitely impacted by her home life in which she learned to avoid, when possible, her drunken, abusive father from whom her mother had fled and her brother had learned to drink. Lily, with her honey-colored eyes, dirty blonde hair and a fair, freckled complexion which would never tan under the unrelenting Miami sun, had learned to avoid her father when possible. And so, her childhood was miserable.

Life at school and in the neighborhood was not much better for gentle Lily who tried to not be noticed; she just wanted to do her school work and to disappear from view. And to a degree, she was successful, except for when one school and neighborhood acquaintance—Jackson Levy—taunted her at school and followed her home. From Lily’s perspective, Jax seemed to live to pester her—to follow her—to throw rocks at her window—to remind her father that he had a daughter whom dad thought was going to follow the pathway of his addicted, unfaithful wife unless he intervened forcefully to beat the corruption out of her.

Jax Levy was not aware that his actions of following Lily at school and back home and making noises outside her house reminded her abusive dad that he had a daughter who needed discipline. Jax was working out his own anger at feeling deserted by his mother who had been more than willing to accept a multi-million-dollar divorce settlement contingent on leaving the father and son alone. And while Jax tried to ameliorate his hurt by burning energy playing football and lacrosse, he still knew that he wanted Lily’s attention and he would do anything to get it. Unfortunately, as an angry boy who didn’t understand his mom’s decision to leave him and his dad, what Jax did know was that while Lily’s rebuffed his attentions, increasing his anger, it was Jax’s reactions that ignited her father’s abuse believing that Lily was flirting.

Now as adults, Lily and Jax’s paths have crossed by chance at the Lavender Dreams Spa where both are indulging in the spa’s relaxing treatments. Operated by Guadalupe and Yuslan, a couple who following retirement had opened the spa. And, Lily had been lucky enough to meet the older, childless couple during her freshman year in college, and the three strangers became family. The older childless couple became the loving and supportive parents Lily had never experienced. And, acting in the role of mom, Guadalupe had always encouraged Lily to trust that she would meet her “alto, oscuro y guapo”—she just didn’t expect him to be the nemesis of her childhood, Jax Levy, a billionaire CEO of Layaway International.

JP Comeau’s romances are always grounded in the real-life concerns of family dynamics, offering insights and perspectives on the nature of family. In A Bully’s Second Chance, Comeau allows the reader to ponder the possibilities of whether childhood hurts and losses make us strong, or destroy forever, our ability to be whole individuals. Comeau continues the stories of the ladies of the Lavender Dreams Spa and their friends and men. Each novel can be read separately, but the ladies and their men are a wonderful group of individuals whose love and support of each other makes the reader want to follow each friend’s story. And now, this story allows the reader to enjoy seeing the dreams of family held by Guadalupe and Yuslan, owners of Lavender Spa, fulfilled.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review ARCS, but I enjoyed the reading experience so much that I bought a copy for my "read-again" titles.

Rating and Review

Rating: 3.25 Stars

Whilst I did shed a few tears during a specific scene, I felt apathetic towards the story in general; it just wasn’t the emotionally compelling read that I had anticipated.

The first 59% was tedious—to summarize:
Boy had a crush on Girl. Girl had a crush on Boy. Boy showed his feelings by bullying Girl. Girl ended up hating Boy. *Time jump a few years* Boy and Girl stumble across each other. Boy pisses off Girl. Girl avoids Boy. But Boy lusts after Girl, and wants her close, so he bribes her with a high paying job. Girl reluctantly accepts. Girl and Boy work together. Boy is mean to Girl. Girl gets angry. Girl and Boy have office sex. Boy pushes Girl away. Girl is angry at Boy. Boy needs Girl’s help. Girl helps Boy. Girl sees Boy’s soft side. Girl and Boy have hot tub sex. Boy pushes Girl away. Girl gets upset with Boy. Girl contemplates leaving. Girl sees Boy’s soft side again. Girl decides not to leave Boy.

I did enjoy the last 40%—the main characters were well-established by this point, and they no longer felt so wishy-washy.

There were also a few editing mistakes; the most memorable being:

Grammar: The noun “grief” is incorrectly used instead of the verb “grieve” in the following sentence, “I’d have to grief the loss of her as well.”

Formatting: Chapter fifteen names Lily as the narrator, when it’s actually Jax’s POV

Consistency: At 90% Lily addressed Guadalupe and Yulan as Ma and Pa for—what’s implied to be—the first time,

“I love you, Ma.” Guadalupe whipped around. “What did you just call me?” Tears crested my eyes. “Would that be okay to call you? Ma?”

This doesn’t make sense, given that Lily had already openly reference Yulan and Guadalupe as her parental figures at 21%,

I kissed his cheek. “Will do, Pa.” Then, I kissed Guadalupe’s cheek. “Love you, Ma.”

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Ok Bully's Second Chance by J.P. Comeau had me crying buckets. Trigger warning: story deals with death of a parent by cancer and loss of a pregnancy. I have loved the Tall, Dark and Handsome Billionaire series. The story base is around Guadalupe and Yuslan, a retired couple who own a spa. The women of the series have all some connect to this couple as a parental type influence and guidance. Lily DeMarcus had horrible parents: father an abuser and alcoholic and mother alcoholic and addict. Yuslan brought her into the family and now fresh out of college she works as an accountant at the spa. Jackson (Jax) Levy grew up down the street from Lily. Although he had a crush on her, he showed it by bullying Lily relentlessly. Being in Lily's life brought her a lot of pain but yet she still had a crush in him.

A chance encounter leads with Jax offering Lily a job as his assistant. Wanting the experience and needing money she agrees to work for him. Growing up Jax used anger and bullying rather than showing other emotions. This is still a go to for him. Lily is tired of being on the receiving end of his bullying so she stands up to him and his hurtful words. Good for her-so glad our heroine found her strength.

Jax's father is dying of cancer and Jax has a nurse taking care of him at home. When Lily steps in to assist, she is able to see the boy under the angry man. She has incredible patience to help him through everything. This couple has potent chemistry when they aren't fighting. But then the fighting often leads to more with them.

As someone who lost a parent like Jax did, it brought me back to my experiences. The words evoke such feelings because what Jax goes through is real, not a work of fiction. Bully's Second Chance was a tough read for me but it was kind of cathartic to go through it. Have a box or two of tissues next to you as you read this book. The story will stay with me for a long while.

Teen Crush to Bully to Forever!!! This was about Jackson and Lily even if Guadalupe and Yuslan made a wonderful appearance in this story. Guadalupe has helped many with her wisdom word of alto, oscuro y guapo! Of course, this story has its funny parts, sad and emotional parts, but overall it's a great story!

Jackson is out relaxing at the spa and once he leaves he is stunned to bump into Lily and when she first sees him, she thinks he may have changed and to give him the opportunity, but that fails. He returns to the spa that she just went into and pays for her day expecting a Thank You, but that never comes. Lily has terrible memories of her childhood and the bullying that Jax always did to her in which she seemed to be punished harshly by her father. She no longer speaks to her dad and rarely to her mother, but she is trying to make the best of everything so running into Jax was the last thing she expected. Then she is about to be robbed and here he comes again to save the day and she still doesn't thank him...

Finally, the story takes over when they meet the next day and he offers her a position as his assistant and she lets him have it!! You must read this because it keeps you wanting more. Knowing some of the things he was dealing with is shocking to her as he was after hearing her story. There is a frightening moment in the story where you don't think there will be a happily ever after, but luckily it changes for the good. You still want more and I would hope there is an extended epilogue for these two, but I still loved it.

Bully's Second Chance is the 6th book in the Tall, Dark and Handsome Billionaire Series. It is great ending to an awesome series. As with all of her books, Ms. Comeau creates great characters. Her characters are relatable and easy to care about, you want to keep turning the page to see what happens next. The story is well written and not the usual second chance story.

Jackson (Jax) and Lily went to school together as children. Jackson was even friends of a sort with Lily's brother. They both grew up in troubled households but neither knew how bad the other had it. Jackson picked on and bullied Lily relentlessly when in reality he had a crush on her but didn't know how to show it. Lily took all that hurt, even took beatings from her father because of Jackson, hating Jackson because of it even though she had had a crush on him as children as well.

Jackson and Lily meet years later at The Spa owned by the lovable Guadalupe and Yuslan. Jackson wants to see her again and starts stalking her, hoping to run into her again. When he does finally see her again, he offers her the job of a lifetime. She just graduated from college with her degree and only works part-time at the spa so it's hard for her to resist.

Lily working for Jackson and their story of reuniting is full of twists and turns, angst and all the feels. You will enjoy this story along with its HEA. It is a wonderful end to a great series and I can't wait to see what the next series is about.

She can more than stand her ground against him now

Bully's Second Chance is the sixth book in the Tall, Dark and Handsome Billionaires series. We could all use a tall, dark and handsome billionaire...and lets not also forget "sex-on-a-stick" just to add the cherry on top of his sundae. This second chance romance story is about was a wonderful read. The story is about Jackson "Jax" Levy and Lily DeMarcus. They have a history together from when they were kids that is not nice. Actually Jax was more than an a$$ to Lily back then as he picked on the already picked upon girl. So when their paths cross again as adults you just know that there are going to be some fireworks going off, just not sure if they will be beautiful or a destructive firestorm kind. Both Jax and Lily have changed now that they are adults and they both end up having more than a few sparks flying between them as they spend time around each other. At times this story is sweet and romantic and at others I wanted to smack Jax upside his head. But this is a nicely written book with an entertaining story-line and well developed characters. I did enjoy this book and thought it is a nice addition to this series.

I received a copy of this book and am leaving my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

This is a second chance story that leads to love for Lilly and Jackson. As kids Jackson is a constant tease and is always giving a Lilly a hard time as many boys do with girls as kids. There are unknown hidden painful childhood events going on behind closed doors that Lilly has a bad childhood between home and the teasing. Lilly deals with drugs and abuse daily and is glad to get away to college. While in college she meets two angles, Yuslan and Guadalupe who become parents to her. Jackson also has his pain and past so one day as a successful adult he literally runs right into Lilly and once he discovers who she is he is taken aback by her beauty and tries to find a way to see her again. Jax finally gets a chance to speak with Lilly and offers her a job that could make her life easy with the money he is promising her but she would have to work with Jax every day. Jax will have to show Lilly that his bullying as kids was because he liked her and once he realizes the pain he caused and she lived every day he sets out to show Lilly exactly what she means to him, his forever. When Lilly is made aware of his secret about his father Lilly has a better understanding of Jax and his pain. These two are meant to be together and once they discover what they need to do to get their is their journey! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is the story of Jackson (Jax) and Lilly. This book is a second chance story. Both characters were broken for different reasons. Lilly came from a really sad and difficult childhood full of traumatizing evens, drugs, alcohol, abuse are part of her daily life. Over that, she was bullied by Jax, he made her life miserable in the only place that she had peace, school. Once she get to college, she met Yuslan and Guadalupe, the owners at the spa, and they became her parents. After college she reconnected to her always bully, Jax. He is a successful millionaire and a real pain. Once he saw her, he wanted her. He bullied her because he was attracted to her but his actions, left scars on Lilly. This time he wants her, he needs her because she is the only one that can help him with his deep secret, the reason of his sadness and angry attitude. They belong together, but their past would interfere with their future.
Amazing story! I love J.P. Comeau books but this is really amazing! I loved the plot, the characters, the twists and the unexpected situations. I was not able to stop reading. Highly recommended.

This book brings us Jackson (Jax) Levy and Lily DeMarcus. Jax and Lily went to school together, and Jax was so mean to Lily - he was a bully to her and it really affected her. Lily also had a very hard childhood with troubled parents, while Jax, even though his mom left him at 6 years of age, he still had his dad. After his dad retired, Jax took over Layaway International. He did, however, have a very hard time keeping a secretary as he was not very nice to the people he worked with. In fact, Jax rubbed people the wrong way. When Lily sees him after all these years, she approaches him and says Hi - and once again, he is rude. I enjoyed how much Lily grew and stood up for herself, and was very truthful to Jax about how he hurt her and what he had to do to apologize correctly. I also loved how Lily changed Jax from a bully, to someone who could open up and let his true feelings shine thru. This was such an amazing read and I highly recommend it. I did receive an arc for an honest review.

Bully's Second Chance. What an intriguing story. It had me on pins and needles. I got caught up in the crazy story of Lily and Jackson. They knew each other back in high school and Jackson bullied Lily all the time even though he didn't know how bad her family relationship was. Several years later, he becomes her boss but the bullying doesn't stop until she speaks up and stands her ground. But Jackson also finds out about her past and realizes how much he had a part in it. Lilly also becomes a lifesaver for Jackson when she helps him through the hardship of losing his dad. Life turns around for them but tragedy still follows them. You will not want to put this book down! It will capture your heart.  I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. *** I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. Loved this book, so much so I read it in one day !! I loved the characters and how they developed. Jax - the "school bully" and now, the astute, tough business man and Lily - "the girl who was bullied" now a strong women who has battled her way through life and now is determined not to let her past affect her future. Lily's character shines throughout and you really see that despite everything that happened when she was a child, she is a warm, caring intelligent young women. Jax starts off being your typical "I'm the boss - you do what I say, when I say it" but the cracks in this persona start to show very early on and you get to peek behind all this and see a softer young man, who really cares very deeply about the people who he is closest to. I would suggest having a few tissues handy, I needed a couple in places.

This is the sixth book in the Tall, Dark and Handsome Billionaires series. It a steamy enemies to lovers story. I went into this one not sure if I was going to like it. I'm a huge fan of the authors books but bully romances are normally a miss for me but I loved Jackson and Lily's story. Jackson and Lily had tough childhoods even though they came from families that have money. Lily’s was made worse by Jackson tormenting her which brought on more trouble from her dad. Lily never expect to find herself working for her childhood bully. He still seems to be a jerk but Lily can stand up for herself now. The longer they're together the closer they become and the stronger the attraction is. Will these two realize that they belong together, that they are exactly what the other needs?

How JP could finish this series better, than with Guadalupe an Yuslan ‘s (sort of) daughter?
I love those and their appearance in the series!

Lily and Jax are two strong persons with some such broken souls due to their family history.
And their chance meeting after all this time since high school is a chance of fate.
The bully and the bullied have in fact strong feelings for each other - and is isn’t hate!
And this meeting become their second chance at hapiness.

You can’t leave this from your hands!
Can’t stop till you finish!
Becouse the story, the twists, the characters, will keep you glued to it! Will warm and twist your heart, you will cry and laugh with them. You will hope and despair, you will love.

JP made a damn good job with this series! And this story seems to be the best of it!

This is the story of Lily DeMarcus and Jackson Levy (“Jax”). They knew each other in high school and he made her life miserable by bullying her. When Lily and Jax literally run into each other again as adults, he has a special job offer for her. He needs her to take care of his dying father but without disclosing that fact to anyone.

Jax and Lily have to work together closely and their proximity increases their sizzling chemistry. She needs to know that his tormenting her was his childish way to express the fact that he really liked her. He likewise needed to know what she went home to everyday that made her life so miserable and painful. Understanding each other is the start of a new journey for them. Communication is the first step, and they can walk the rest of that path together once they know they are loved. Grab your copy and see if the two of them figure it out.

Jax and Lily meet by chance in a spa after some time without seeing each other.
Jack used to make life impossible for Lily at school, and bc of him she also suffered punishment at home.
So when he offers her to work as his secretary she laughs in his face until she hears his generous offer, which will allow Lily to pay off her debts and start her business.
But soon the boundaries between professional and personal begin to cross: a 🔥🔥🔥 moment one night at the office and the favor that Jax asks her when he is away for business. The favor is that Lily take care of his father, who is terminal and then these 2 start spending a lot of time together.
But even so, they still have a way to leave the past buried, to heal old wounds so that they can start a future together.
I ❤️❤️❤️it, it has everything: love, passion, fun, drama...
I recommend it.

A sweet, sexy story

Jax never knew the hell that Lily went home to every day after he made the rest of her life hell. So, when he sees her again after many years, he picks right back up. But this time Lily pushes back and shocks him. So much so that he offers her a job without knowing what skills she has. Can he convince her to work for him? And what about that other problem he has with his father?

Lily left her family and never looked back. She had another “family” that loved her unconditionally that helped her grow into herself. She never expected to run into Jax. And she certainly never expected him to save her from a mugger and offer her a job for more than she ever dreamed of. But can she protect herself and her heart from her attraction to him?

Walking The Path Of Destiny -
Jax was Lilly’s nemesis when they were younger, so meeting him and embarking on a relationship with him was the last thing she expected. Jax was a wealthy playboy, so the last thing he expected was to change his ways for Lilly. Their chemistry was evident right from their first interaction as adults, but getting the happily ever after would involve overcoming a number of obstacles that would make them stronger. I just couldn’t stop reading once I started and just kept going until the end. I suggest you create a time when you will not be disturbed, to really enjoy reading this amazing book.

Does the sinfully rich bully have a heart?
The story has been outlined so I won't go into detail but I highly recommend a box of tissues on standby. I got deeply invested in this compelling read. The hero was a complex & difficult man who worked hard & had zero tolerance. He was in dire need of anger management therapy. He hired the girl he used to bully at school paying her a king's ransom, but she handled everything he threw at her flawlessly. Their attraction is off the charts hot but his dying father is front of mind. Will he ever get to realise that he can't cope without her by his side in every aspect of his life? Loved the reconnection with Guadalupe & Yuslan. Flawlessly crafted as always by Ms Comeau. Merci beaucoup. I received an arc & this is my honest & voluntary review.

Lily and Jackson grew up together and shared what could best be called a difficult friendship, but they came from difficult homes, as well. Jax "bullied" Lily as he tried to get her attention in the only way he knew how. Lily had a crush on him, too, but she took her father's beatings because of him. When they meet, years later, Lily wants nothing to do with him, but Jax is not going to give up. He offers her a job as a caregiver for his father, keeping his failing health quiet. Lily  helps Jackson through the pain of losing his father and she finally stands up to him. Once he knows the truth of her past and the hand he had in it, can they heal enough to find a happy ending? This is a bittersweet story that shows what can be overcome when honesty is at the core of their love.

I started reading before bed thinking I would read a few chapters but before I knew it I had stayed up late and finished the entire book. I was engrossed in Jax and Lily's story. Lily and Jax come from two very different backgrounds with Lily being from a dysfunctional family and Jax a wealthy family. And Jax bullied her at school and made her life even more miserable. Now years later they run into each other and this time Jax is determined to get a second chance. After all he only bullied her in school was because he was attracted to her. Will they get their second chance and HEA? J.P. Comeau has written another 5 star read!

Jax, the bully, is changed?
by Happy-Girl

I wouldn't say I like stories about bullies, but I was curious, and the author didn't let me down.
Lily couldn't believe that she met, again, Jackson, her childhood bully.
And then he offers her a job with a ridiculous salary that she couldn't refuse!
And then her Ma told her that maybe he's her "alto, oscuro y guapo" and she couldn't believe it!!!
And then the attraction sparks between them, and Lily found out a different Jax.
I won't spoil the plot, and I'll tell only that this story has a HEA!

... another story tied in with “Yuslan and Guadalupe’s spa”
Jackson bullied Lily all through her childhood and she hated him for this.
They meet again as adults and Jackson hires Lily as his secretary. He entrusts her with taking care of his dying father while he’s on a business trip. Two she moves to livestock his estate and they get closer everyday.
Life unfortunately throws them a couple curveballs, but read for yourselves, it’s so worth the time!

J.P. has a 5-star book on her hands and if I could give it more I would. Very touching story of how Jax and Lily go from him bullying her as a kid to her learning to stand on her own 2 feet as an adult. The plot and theme to this book will have you laughing at the banter between them to crying at how touching it was. Oh, Lily and Jax have that love hate relationship that will keep you wanting more and more with each page you turn. I believe this author has written one of her best books to date. LOVED IT!!!

Jax had picked on Lily relentlessly during school but couldn’t deny the chemistry between them when Jax offered Lily a job. I did feel it was a little strange that Lily claimed to hate Jax and then went out of her way to talk to him during her chance meeting. If I hated someone like that and they came into a café I was in, I would keep my head down until they’d gone. Still, it’s a fine line between love and hate which is the theme throughout this book. The side-story surrounding Jax’ father gives this book another dimension which kept it interesting. Would definitely recommend.

This is the type of read that tugs at your heartstrings and bombards you with emotions. Lily and Jackson give your heart a workout as a shared painful past and a complicated now challenge this couple. I loved Lily (and boy did I feel for her!) and I liked Jackson. Plenty of feels, some drama, lots of tension and a couple twists keep you firmly focused on these two as their story unfolds. I'm electing to post an unprejudiced review of my own choosing.

J. P. Has done it again. I think this is the best of the series so far. Each book can be read as a stand alone or in order. The book draws you in and keeps you reading.

Their childhood problems help define who they are today. He bullied her to deal with his lack of family. He didn’t know she was abused. Will all of these things come out when they see each other again?

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
