The second in the adaptation (I am tempted to call it a novelization) of Gatiss and Moffatt's scripts for Sherlock, the tv series (the version with Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes) by Stephen Thompson, illustrated in manga fashion by Jay. I am not a fan of this particular story, so won't recount it, but I like the art and I like the series well enough to continue it. All the people in this house are reading all of them even as we have just seen the series through for maybe the third time (fourth or fifth time for me).
I said I was tempted to call it a novelization in that it is very close to the original script, but the art tries for something a bit different, so it is somewhat raised in my estimation to an adaptation. But it's good, especially if you have seen the tv series, which goes so fast it is a bit helpful to slow down and see it from a slightly different angle in a manga.
The BBC Sherlock TV series is one of my favourites. So, when I bumped into these manga adaptations I couldn't help myself. I had to read them all! This one was quite enjoyable and I liked it a lot. The illustrations are what I love the most!
I adore the series and so when a friend of mine have me the Manga, I was excited. I love the art style, although Watson's nose...seriously? I've always loved the second episode of series one because of the code and John's desperate attempts to live a normal life. Once you get to know Sherlock Holmes, nothing is normal anymore, silly^^ But it’s still just a retelling and the atmosphere is not the same, sadly...
I love the BBC Series and this book is a pretty close 1:1 adaptation of it, including angles of view, looks of people (some are very fitting, some look a bit off to me) and of course the storyline. I enjoyed this one a lot though but then again I am a fan of the tv series and on withdrawal...
The story is still good but it doesn't add anything to what we already saw on-screen, it's literally that. But also, this manga made me realize how big a part of my enjoyment of Sherlock make up the actors, the music and the cinematography. Without Martin Freeman's brilliance, John Watson is just dull.
This has always been my least favorite "part/episode" in New Sherlock and unfortunately this manga doesn't change my opinion about it. The art is good, though, even if the story lacks a bit. 3 stars.
