In Persevere with Power, Samuel Rodriguez explored how to overcome your challenges and persevering through whatever you may be facing. The book started by discussing how different Biblical characters was able to overcome their own difficulties. These included Joseph being betrayed, David facing a bear, lion, a giant, and Saul, Elijah overcame Jezebel, Elisha overcame famine, and much more. He explained how we can prevail and have the power of God on our side. He looked at the Holy Spirit and what all of this entails for a believer. He shared a personal story about his oldest daughter, Yvonne and her battle with Covid-19 and had to be admitted because she was struggling to breath. She was in a fight for her and he opened up about the fears and the attacks of the enemy. He explained how we can choose to be let by our emotions or we can live by faith. A big part of the book, he looked at the lives of Elijah and Elisha. He also discussed 1 Kings 18 and 19 and the two big antagonists against them. These were Ahab and Jezebel and he explained how this is still going on currently in the 21st century. Both of these spirits are alive and destroying our world. This included manipulation, sexually, corruptions, killing joy, breaking the peace, and much more. He explained how if Elijah and Elisha have stopped trusting in God and His power then their story could have turned out differently than it did. The book will teach readers to be faithful and to keep pressing on and persevering through the challenges of life.


I would recommend this life changing book to anyone who is discouraged and they feel like quitting. This book will assist reader into growing spiritually and getting their fire and fight back to take a stand against the enemy. I immensely loved how in depth he looked at the story of Elisha and Elijah and also the spirits that are against us. One of my favorite things was the topic of what only God can do and this was a wonderful list to remind us of the power of God. Another favorite was in the last chapter about things we can declare that will die in our generations. These included addiction, sexual promiscuity, divorce, cancer, depression, suicide, and much more. I also liked how each chapter had a special section called, “push your plow, meet your mantle”. It contained questions and a prayer. This book is a wonderful reminder that hell can’t stop God’s anointing on our lives and we can all have the strength and power to persevere.

A thought-provoking guide into the lives of Elijah and Elisha—two of the greatest prophets of the Bible—and the God behind them. The prophets lived and prophesied during dark times when they risked their lives to speak out for God. Samuel Rodriguez includes background information that allows readers a deeper understanding of the times and events surrounding these prophets lives.

The author also shares his own experiences—times when he struggled while he was under attack—and how with God’s help he overcame. The good news is that we can overcome also. He equips readers to communicate with God and arise victorious over our circumstances.

Below are several important reminders that Samuel expands upon in the book-
• God is in control even when evil surrounds us
• Even the most devout prophet, faces times of depression and fear
• You must put in the work to reap the rewards
• God sees your faithfulness even if no one else does
• You must step out in faith to receive the miracles
• The more we trust God and step out in faith, the easier it becomes
• God still performs miracles

The book is designed with thoughtful questions at the end of each chapter. It can easily be a used in Bible Study classes.

Samuel Rodriquez shares many of his personal experiences having to persevere to overcome obstacles. Whether it is being born into a family with small means and having to work through obstacles to become successful in business or overcoming fear when a loved one has contracted COVID-19, this book uses personal stories to encourage readers to overcome obstacles. Several biblical characters are referenced throughout as well showing how God can give you the power to overcome these obstacles and move forward.

This is a powerful book that has the potential to change the lives of many readers. IT’s packed with both today’s world and biblical experience so that readers can understand the power that is available to them through God.

Pastor Sam is one of my favorites. As with his other books he gives you lots of applications to ponder for your current life, each chapter ends with questions to consider related to the subject in the chapter just read, and then he concludes each chapter with a prayer. I think the most impressive part of the book is the endorsements at the beginning. What a list! He seems to dig into a biblical story and tries to garner as much application as possible (in this case Elijah and Elisha in the Old Testament). It is almost too much for me to stretch and get that much out of the passage. But it is all good stuff to think about and consider those pointed questions on how all of this applies to my life.

Pastor Rodriguez has clearly defined spiritual truths that will challenge and encourage you stand firm in your faith. The example of Elijah and Elisha is compelling. This novel is timely for today!

Recommend to readers who want a deeper walk with Christ.
