Seeking Out Goodness

Rate this book
Most of us feel the world is more contentious and less civil than it was a generation ago, or a few years ago, or maybe even last week. We long to be reassured that everything is going to be okay, that God is still at work, even in small ways. The good news is, even when our circumstances change, God does not. He is still in control, and he still offers us good gifts. We just have to know where to look for them.

Exploring the beautiful admonition found in Philippians 4:8 to think on whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy, author Alexandra Kuykendall encourages us to keep seeking out goodness even when we are mired in a time of fear, division, and negativity. Through personal stories and clear biblical insight, Alex helps us see God at work right now, right in our midst, no matter how messy life feels. She helps us appreciate other people even when we disagree with them, move past false dichotomies, celebrate goodness in others when we find it, and hope for a brighter tomorrow even as we celebrate the good gifts we receive today.

A.K., Thank you for saying what needs to be said, for addressing the hurt in the world right now and then in small, detailed, thoughtful ways showing me how to grow into someone that can heal and help, all to God's glory. This book was like a session with with a very good counselor and felt like just what the world needs to hear now.

Such a necessary read for this emerging, post-pandemic life (especially for Christian-identifying women).

I truly appreciate ending my year with Seeking Out Goodness: Finding the True and Beautiful All Around You. As we end 2021, another year in a pandemic, another year when civility seems in short supply, here is another way to look at the world. Kuykendall reminds us how and where to seek out the goodness and see that God is still providing goodness daily in your life. This book was very readable and included questions for reflection and prayers at the end of each chapter. I found this book calming and helped me reflect on the goodness in my life. Thanks to Baker Books for a free copy of this book won through a Goodreads giveaway. #SeekingOutGoodness

Alexandra Kuykendall has an amazing way to encourage us to love the people around us, to love and bless the place where God has placed us and the life He gave us, in Seeking Out Goodness. Alexandra Kuukendall help you to notice that Gods goodness is already here. She reminds us to look in our Bible and remember who our God is, keeping in mind and hearts that He don't change. At the end of every chapter there is a beautiful prayer and question to reflect on. This book is challenging me to really seek goodness especially in this times when we are bombarded with so many sad news and dificult situations. We are living in a culture where we think that it's OK to cancel or unfriend people because we don't think in the same way instead to encourage, to be accountable in love and learn from each other even though our differences. I totally recommind it. It's a lovely book, easy to read.

This is just the book we need for the time we live in. It's kinda scary that we need to remind people to seek goodness, but it seems to be where we are. I really loved most of the book, but felt like a few sections were just not needed. Overall the idea and concept of the book is very relevant. We need to remember that just because people have different views doesn't make them the enemy and that we should lead from a place of goodness. Listening and opening our minds while seeking goodness are just what we need.

I love how she took a scripture and dissected it and presented it in a beautiful way. Great insights.
