Fierce Protector is book one in Brett Humphrey's brand new Therian Shapeshifter Academy Series. It’s off to an exciting and wild start.
This book has everything a young reader of fantasy will love. There is boundless creativity and no end to the new and amazing shapeshifting creatures that we meet. They have their human-like forms, true, but they are also powerful and intelligent dragons, wolverines, cats, centaurs, unicorns, phoenixes and fairies from the world of Fae. The main character, 10-year-old Mkali Kentauro, is a seasoned warrior and “Protector of the Weak” and yet is still a child. She is also a centaur when not in her human-like form. She has extensive challenges to overcome in this first book. She must protect her classmates from those who would desire to destroy them. That is because this is also a story about a multidimensional universe with its own history of upheavals and political intrigue. So I will leave the reasons why Mkali needs to protect her classmates for you to find out yourself when you read the book. But threatened she and her friends are; seriously threatened. Their lives are often in danger as they try to right the wrongs and correct the imbalances of this multi-dimensional universe and its troubled history. This history adds sophistication to the tale, making it fun for an adult to read or share, but not so complex that the young reader would have any trouble understanding it. Fierce Protector is a strong beginning to a unique and imaginative concept for a fantasy series.
