There's a reason buried things should always stay buried. For better or for worse. To have and to hold a demon for eternity. She says demons haunt the night, inflecting everything in their path. But where I come from demons don't just lurk around the shadows. They breed in your head. Feasting on your soul until you cease to exist. And, mine just woke up infested in wicked lies.Till death do us apart, little soul.

What a way to start a series!
.
This is something different for me which I loved. I’ve never read a story like it which added a whole new level to the book. It was unique, unpredictable, gritty and a ride you won’t forget.
.
The characters were great, very well written and developed. Out of the ordinary and unlike any characters you will see. They were engaging and their dynamic was great. I loved how they both complimented and contrasted each other and they have a certain presence about them which keeps you enthralled and entertained to their story.
.
Such an incredible world with so much to learn and discover. I love paranormal books so this was definitely up my alley and the uniqueness and originality of the story really sold it for me. There’s still so much more to this world that I can’t wait for the next book in the series. Definitely a must read for me. Amazing writing by Kate and I cannot wait to see more.

The absolutely most frustrating thing about starting a new series.... Is waiting for the second book. I really want the authors address so that I can ship her a case of red bull so she can type faster :)

I seriously can't wait for the 2nd book!

After reading the description I was not keen to start reading it. But this blew me away!!

I had no idea what to expect from this book and I was pleasantly surprised. Do you like prophecies, witches, spells and magic in general? If so, I would recommend it.

CHARACTERS- So there aren't too many characters. Those who are there, each carry a significant role. I loved them but wanted a bit more depth into them, maybe? I'm hoping we get more of their backstories in the next book. I also wish we had more time with Alexei and Emie, like not banters but more deep conversations? I thought they were super cute and for some weird reason I kept imagining a Skull sweatshirt and scythe on Alexei🤣. He's adorable but I want more.

PLOT- It's not one of the books that has twists in every single page, it's more of a slow build-up that takes you on a journey. I finished it in one go and I had my own theories about what might happen. It made me laugh, it made me frown and it made me laugh some more. There are twists & turns, you will probably scream at Emie once or twice but hey that's what we always sign up for while reading a book.

NARRATION- The narration is easy and it also its magic spell thingies are chanted in another language. Adds more dimension I feel. It flows smoothly and transitions are good. Also it has multiple POVs, another thing I really like in books. It's written in a manner that's supposed to make you laugh and frown, not have you pacing around your room. In short, it's mysterious but also light.

BUILT-UP- I really wanted more between Emie & Alex. Their banters were so cute but I felt we didn't get to see them bond. They have great potential as a couple and I would love to see them have those much needed conversations in the next book.

WORLD BUILDING- It's set in another kind of world with fictional places(am I making any sense?). Their world isn't very complex and was really interesting. It's based on Earth only but another kind of Earth. One with witches, demons, spirits, Reapers, Portals, Hell and monsters.

Can I take a moment to swoon over Lex's nickname for Em? "Little anything(Little Soul in this case)" is my weak spot, throw that in and you have me rooting for the MCs.

(I am given ARC by the author for this book in exchange for an honest review)
First and foremost, if you guys like the elements of enemies to lovers, marriage of convenience and sorcery as well as magic, i would like you to read this. The dialogues are addictive as well as the sexual tension that was building up between the MC and their love interest. I am surprised for the improvement that has been made by the author from the rough draft that I read earlier a few years back but what can I say, it is amazing to see the development of the story as well as the plot was getting interesting more and more as i read on!
I would recommend for those who love urban fantasy romance and I would not stop until I got to the last book of this trilogy! Keep up the good work, Kate for I am dying to read more of this series!!!❤️❤️❤️

Well K.H. Kate you got the mystery and suspense down to a science. I mean dang you had me from the first page. So tell me how you are supposed marry someone who is not there. No fear the red clan is there. Uh what was that you say. Exactly that! Then every thing just takes off from them. You will meet Emeline and Darkness aka Alexei. Well you got people dying every which way and talks of prophecy. I mean it was crazy, but you get sucked into the story. I was like wait why did that happen and oh no don't do it. Obviously there were things that Emeline did anyways. Then I got to the end and was like NOOOOOOOOO! Like for real why would you do that. Like you break my heart and leave me wondering what could happen next. Let the wait begin.

This was a book I stepped into without knowing too much about it. My cover was captured by the title and the cover. Don’t judge a book by its cover they say, but I’m glad I did, because the book is as good as its cover.
This books starts off really intriguing and is filled with high stakes action. I couldn’t wait to see where things would go. This story was an intense journey. I loved Emeline right from the beginning! A great character for a great plot! I like the world building and the details about magic, clans, and witches.
The Darkness was fascinating and kept me hooked.
I love a gritty raw paranormal book and it gave me dark fantasy vibes.

This pulls you in from the start. Things happen you don’t expect.
It’s an intriguing story that keeps on going until the end !
The dynamics between Em and Lex are easy yet complex. Was a great read I really enjoyed and after the ending ... ohhh 😮 I was looking forward to the next book anyway but how it will go from after the ending is gonna be good !! Can’t wait for the next book sooner then later !

wow what a great start to a new series, I was drawn in from the first page until the last and then I was shouting at my kindle. I went on a roller coaster of emotions from lust, love, lost I just could not put this book down. Its full of mystery,  suspension and the chemistry between Emeline and darkness was just off the charts. This book is well written, with a great plotline. I really cannot wait for the 2nd book in this series as I’m dying to find out what’s going to happen.

I think this is a good book 1! The story moves well and I like a good female bad guy lol we could use more of them! My only “hang up” is that I didn’t get a lot of consistency...hmm that might not be the word i’m looking for...but consistency in the characters flow. They seem kind of all over the place..which is opposite to the story cause it’s so well put together and has a crazy cliffhanger!

Excited to see where this series goes!

I’m so sorry but unfortunately this book was littered with so many grammatical and spelling errors that it is impossible for me to rate it any higher. I’m really disappointed especially for the author as I admire anyone brave enough to put themselves out there and it’s such a shame that it wasn’t proof read/edited as this could have been so easily avoided. Hopefully on future books someone can help out with proof reading/editing.

Read like a badly translated novel/comic/manga

I couldn’t get into it since it was just weirdly off. It was consistent too, “burning a sage” or “dark blue walls full of mirrors, and the earthy smell welcomed me as I quickly did a checkout.” Clearly she’s not checking someone out, she’s just looking around the room. It annoyed me enough I DNFed at 25%. It needs editing, the way it’s written kept me from getting into the story.

I really like that the author is doing different genres. I've read both the MC and Mafia series. I'm a huge fan of the supernatural. Her characters were great. I absolutely loved her perspective on the story. Darkness was a badass who was also sweet. The story was suspenseful and had some mystery to it. It was a good book overall and I'm looking forward to the next one!

Suspenseful and full of dark magic! Emie has magic powers but no idea how to use them. Lex/Darkness is trying to help her while he also helps himself. Good battles evil in this fantasy tale. It ends in a big cliffhanger, and I'm anxious to see what happens next!

I did not expect how this book ended! I mean WOW! The road to the ending was a little bumpy to read. I felt the characters were all over the place. However, I really enjoyed the concept of the story. I am excited to read the 2nd book to see where Darkness and Zed go from here.
Thank you for allowing me to read an ARC!!

Could have been really good. But the writing was god awful. It was choppy and super hard to read. If it was cleaned up a bit, I think you'd have a winner.

It was good! The story has so much potential! I feel like it was rushed sometimes and I felt that Darkness had like a personality shift really fast, like one chapter he is this dark badass and the next he was super sugary and lovey. It was kind of weird but not enough to turn me off the book. I cannot wait for the next book to see where this story goes!

We all have demons but not like the ones Emerlin, now she is about to understand everything and she realises what she has been missing when she meets Lex and as the puzzle starts falling into place. This is witches and Demons at it's best, brilliant. I voluntarily reviewed this book.
