Revenge. Torture. Hate. No good men live in this city. Only bad men and worse—and those who are worse will get what’s coming to them, even if I have to die trying.
You know my name by now. I never was an angel, and I plan on proving that again before death catches up with me. I’ve killed countless, and before this thing is over, I’ll kill more. I’ll destroy them all.
The Bloody Princess wants me to kill the remaining Luciano sons, but what she doesn’t know is they have my heart, as violent as it is. Maddox, Sylvester, even Viper—I will become their instrument of vengeance. No one will touch them. I will burn this city down if I have to, even if it means I’ll be caught in the blaze.
I never feared death. I’ve searched for it all my life. The Night Slayer is about to go head-to-head with the new head of the DeLuca family. I wish I could say she’s a worthy opponent… but that b*tch has no idea just how brutal and crazy I can be.
Hey guys! I'm a writer, an office worker, a wife, a mother to two dogs and two cats, and half of a strange pair of young adults who flip the houses they're living in with the goal of having no mortgage (so that I can eventually focus on my writing career!). Needless to say, I'm busy.
Still, I somehow find time to write, to read, and to enjoy life. Wish there were more hours in the day, really!
If you're active on Goodreads and have similar interests, friend me. I don't bite. Or if you'd rather follow my reviews, you can do that, too.
At the start of this book we have not one, not two but three villains and that's not even including the heroine and her men. Three people who have beyond angered the Night Slayer and have no idea what's coming to them. I jumped into this one right after finishing book two because damn that cliffy. This book, hell this series was really jaw dropping and absolutely amazing. It was crazy AF and I have no shame in saying I loved every sick and twisted part of it. I'm so sad it's over! I've only ever read shit on this level by Tillie Cole before and trust me I've read some crazy shit over the years. It's rare to find a true badass heroine who needs no saving. A serial killer heroine who cares so little about life she lives every day to the fullest and if that includes killing/ridding the world of others so be it in fact she looks forward to it. Lola is the heroine who will screw her men covered in the blood of her victims while holding a severed head in her hand. Lola is like no other and she made for such an interesting character, I loved watching her journey throughout the series and the explosive end. I mean sure the girl wanted to die all along but she's made to rule and rule she will with three men just as brutal and viscous as her. I really loved this entire trilogy while I wish there was a better and more thorough ending I still think it worked splendidly for the characters. 😈 (**after re@ding the author note in the end it seems it’s left open purposely, perhaps for more books 😱🤭 which would make this dark dark heart super happy**) This book really served as the final culmination of everything that builds up throughout the series. The only part I felt was unresolved was the Luciano father sort of just disappearing in the end-sure Maddox got over his hatred of the heroine but his was ever present and it just feels unresolved. Nonetheless this series was everything and I'm so sad I read it and I won't get that first time feeling when I inevitably read it again. While I've read and enjoyed this author before but this one truly blew my mind and she's on my radar now. If your secretly or not so secretly obsessed with serial killers, RH and badass heroines who take no shit, this series is 100% for you!
I started this trilogy 2 days ago and the first two books were great, solid 4s. This one did not compare to the previous books.
Don’t get me wrong I still liked the plot, the storyline, the smut, and the majority of the characters. It was the female mc’s personality in the final book that I did not like.
She was always a little messed up, but who doesn’t love a heroin that’s a serial killer (the kind who kills men that deserve it ofc).
However, in this book, things changed. She killed innocent men in their apartment after going home with a nice guy, because her “head was messed up”. This made me debate on finishing the trilogy because I just KNEW the author was going to ruin her.
Then, she moves on to constantly hitting on some other dude in front of her men. The men she doesn’t allow to look at other women she openly propositions other men in front of them. I enjoy reverse harems just as much as every other smut reader, however, when you have your harem and they’re all in a friend group and all dedicated to you. You can not continue to look at and proposition other men. That’s giving polygamous vibes and that is not what an RH is and the men made it clear they weren’t on board with that yet it kept happening.
So, anyway, first two books great. Final book, ruined the female mc.
Ugh, so sad when this happens. I was so sure after the fist that this was going to be a 5⭐️ series, but unfortunately it didn’t do it for me. Last book was hard for me to keep my attention. I’m not sure why but it started to feel immature and over the top. I loved Lola first book but last book was a big No.
DNF at 60% of the way through. I honestly just couldn’t get through this, the book was lagging and was hard-pressed to keep me entertained. The inner monologues were just too long and so were the chapters themselves; they needed to be broken up to keep the reader engaged. Listen, I don’t have many triggers and I’m all for a badass and crazy female MC but Lola was just on another level. I knew I probably wouldn’t make it through this when she killed two innocent people at the beginning of the book; that thought was only solidified for me when she was skinning her brother alive. That wouldn’t normally turn me off a book in general, it’s just the lead up to it was extremely chaotic; we literally just met the brother (albeit we do know their past), it was just weird how fast she sliced and diced him without us even really knowing him. Lola’s character and her justifications for the reason she does things didn’t sit right. I was just so sick of reading from her POV and I had to call it quits.

What a bloody conclusion. This series has had several murder scenes, but this one really amped it up and there was one part I had to skip through because it was too gruesome for me. Lola really likes playing with blood, what a creepy girl lol.
I was happy that this addressed all the plot lines and everything was resolved by the end. I'm also intrigued by Roman and Carter's story and Lincoln's story so I guess I'll check out more books by Wondrak!
If I were to compare this book to a movie, I would compare it to Kill Bill, one of my all-time favorites. Just like those movies – the Death So Sweet Series was bloody, violent, and gruesome. Honestly, it is one of the darkest books I’ve read in a very long time. A Death So Sweet Series is a series where you can’t stop until the very end.
What was so compelling about it was the broken heroine – Lola. Her soul is so sinister that you want to hate her, but you end up admiring her instead. From the very start I was captivated by Lola’s character. I wanted to know what made her tick. Once I find out what that turning point was, it made me believe that maybe, just maybe, psychopaths deserve love too.
Speaking of love: Lola has quite a few love interests in this series. AND I couldn’t pinpoint which was the best pick for her even if I tried. I felt like each of her men complimented her each in their way.
My only issue with the series was how it all ended. I felt like there was so much more story to tell after Lola long, sought after vengeance was dealt. What can I say, I’m not ready to let go of this addictive character yet. Please tell me there will be more!
Uhm hi, therapy for one please 🙋🏻♀️ I’m going to review this series as a whole, because I just don’t think there’s a way not to. Wowowowowow. I’ve read stories with a “morally grey demented psycho killer” too many times to count.. but LOLA?! holy shit. The girl loves blood. There were parts that are just meant to turn your stomach. However, as we read, most monsters aren’t born they’re made and made she was. The story is unique to one’s I’ve read before. I liked the writing style, it felt like the characters were literally having a full conversation with you the reader. You got to be inside Lola’s crazed serial killer mind, and what a dark place it was. It won’t be for everyone. But yep… it was for me. And finding out there there is a-whole-nother trilogy in the makes for what happens after these three?! Sign me up I’m ready!
We come to the end of the road in this book. OH MY GOD THIS ONE IS MY FAVORITE. We get so bloody in this book. We have a couple of scores to settle. One Lola does not take kindly to being told what to do. Two her brother is back! OH SHITZERS! Of course we still have the inner monologue but all the action, fighting and blood totally made up for it. I mean this book was amazing and twisted. It will keep you guessing with what could possibly happen next. Do we get some hot and steamy sessions. Oh YES we do. We find out that change is upon them once again. She has plans that may or may not end in her death. I did not expect it to end the way it did but it was fitting. Overall this is a great series to read.
No strong representation of diverse characters or minority identities.
Overall: 2-stars
It felt like Violent Heart was a missed opportunity for a more emotionally visceral conclusion. To illustrate, Lola's scene where she finally confronts her brother felt anti-climatic; I honestly skimmed that whole chapter. Also, for how great the set-up was concerning the vulnerable place Lola and her men were in the crime world in the last two books, it felt like the solution was way too easy. It wasn't convincing, and I felt like the author could've used some of the decisions she made in the first book to make the book a more emotionally harrowing journey for the main characters.
For example, Also, the way the author dealt with Maddox's and Sylvester's father's dilemma (Lola did kill his youngest child) felt like a massive cop-out.
Overall, because none of the characters felt any moral dilemma about the violence or murder they commit, the series struggled to make me care for them. None of them really went through any emotional journey. Even as Lola struggled to come to terms with loving her men – ditto Maddox with Lola – it went from 'I don't care if I die' to 'shit, I think I love them'... essentially, instant acceptance. I had high hopes that this book and the second would develop and deepen the emotional connection between Lola and her men, but at the end of the series, it still felt quite superficial; I didn't believe they were in love. And, because they're all psychopaths, the fact that they were willing to commit horrible crimes for each other means that it isn't something special.
This series was dark, gory and just plain hot. I started questioning my own morals while reading this. Lola is psychotic.. with good reason! I went through this series in a day. It was just on point for me. Lola is a serial killer and proud of it. She fears absolutely nothing and she's ready to go whenever the time comes. Death would be comforting. She has been chasing death ever since she left her home. Nothing has stood in her way until she kills the wrong man. She hasn't been caught exacting her vengeance until the Luciano family scoops her up. That one moment offsets a chain of events that neither she or the Luciano family could have predicted.
Lola is crazy but her men match her crazy! As terrible as her crime was, they can't seem to fight the attraction for her. I love it.
While reading this I was literally envisioning a Quentin Tarantino film. It was a BLOODY mess and really satisfying (??)I loved how Lola, Maddox, Sylvester and Viper just embraced the crazy.
"I, Lola Harding, serial killer extraordinaire, was in love with not one, not two, but three men. Not many gals could say that, I bet."
I also loved the fact this book went deep into Lola's vengeance and her blood thirst. Alternatively, it was good to see that she was human at points and that she wasn't this invincible woman with a death wish.
“Sometimes pain is the only thing reminding me I’m still alive.”
I love a good book that has a strong woman flipping the bird to the world like it's her job.
I'm also a sucker for RH and crime families, this hit the spot.
I just can’t wrap my head around the killing of innocents. That really left a bad taste in my mouth about the main character and was all I could think about throughout the book.
Dancing around to 'This Is How We Do It' as I freak the freak out to this bloody masterpiece.
Candace, I bow down to your dark brilliance. THIS is what I've been waiting for. It's freaking dark. Let me repeat that: THIS IS FREAKING DARK. Don't say no one warned you. If you don't like blood and gore and all other kinds of dark themes - don't read this.
And not just dark - Candace took it a step further - it's an orgy of blood.
If you want a group of crazy, psycho, bloodthirsty people who get the bloodiest revenge, mixed with plenty of feels and some 🔥🔥🔥 steamy scenes....then you need to read this.
This is exactly what my black little heart was needing.
Three books in, the endless monologue became tedious & obvious disregard for common sense became difficult to ignore. I was happy to have reached the end. It’s difficult to find a book with a FMC that’s a serial killer or a true antihero so I still managed to find the series enjoyable. I will say the same story could’ve been told in two books. 3 stars
I read all trilogy because I don't like leaving books series unfinshed but it was a strugle. I did't mind the gore or sexy moments by the corpse that much but... i didn't like Lola, and Maddox either. Maddox goes from 0% to 100% in love with Her - how?? And even if I did not liked him before, in 3th book he is almost diferent person - he goes from crazy and brooding guy to this guy who only talks big and does nothing - what happend ? All the guys just stood by and did almost nothing to help her - according to earlier books killing didin't faze them, they also quite like it, and it was mostly their revange for Maddox mother/Richard wife, taking Lucianos out off the city, shooting in Dollhouse and attempting to kill Mike and Viper.
How could Sylvester and Maddox f*cking forget their brother? I understand Viper - he was loyal, but he didn't love guys the way he loved Mike. I'm not saying that it couldn't have happened if the circumstances were different - for example: she killed him because he hurt her in some terrible way or something like that, or that it was an eye for an eye.
About Lola ... I lost hope for liking this heroine after the scene in first book - when she and Viper are talking about why she killed Mario. I hoped that I missed something in that first chapter that will explain why she choose to kill him, because for me it was not enough evidence to kill that guy - I know consent is VERY important thing but even that drunk she was pretending to be - she could say no, she wasnt unconscious. She said ok lets get out of this place, she go to his apartament and then she said undress and wait for me !!!
So... she was real crazy lady and it was not for me.
Btw sorry for my English - it's not my first language.

So this is the last book in this first trilogy featuring Lola and her harem of yummy psychos. This is a fun and dark book where certain people get their just desserts. I’ve admittedly started towards the end of the reading order of books that take place in this world, so I’m super excited to go backwards and read Lincoln’s book because he was described as a tall drink of monster and crazy. I need more of him in my life. Maddox is still my favorite guy - and I felt like we needed more time with Viper. A lot happens and changes in this book, and I thoroughly devoured all of it. The only two points that kept it from being a five star read were that it wasn’t kinky/smutty enough for me as an RH (needed many more sharing and creative scenes) and the ending felt rushed and incomplete. I know there’s a second trilogy so I’m excited for that, I wanted more at the ending. Overall, this series is a new favorite of mine. I highly recommend it!
So a lot appealed to me: how dark things got, how gritty. I could’ve done without the gore but the rest was so shocking, it felt like watching a scary movie for the first time again. It’s not hard to get excited.
Lola is crazy. And she has her ups and downs but she’s got her guys and they finally feel okay. I still struggled with the writing style. There was a lot of reflecting when I was used to just hearing things through conversations or getting to the point. So it dragged. This could’ve been amazing I think, if I were a different reader. So if you like intense gory detailed stuff with mafia type business check it out. The sex was pretty good and sometimes amazing, the intense was intense… just entertaining.
5 stars for Violent Heart by Candace Wondrak. This is the third and final book in the A Death so Sweet series. What a He** of an ending. “I, Lola Harding, serial killer extraordinaire, was in love with not one, not two, but three men. Not many gals could say that, I bet.” Lola, Maddox, Sylvester, and Viper all come together to for each other and the Luciano family. It has come down The Night Slayer vs. The Bloody Princess but who will come out on top. I have to say I could continue to read about this group for a long time. I was sad to see it was over. I would consider this series a must read.
I absolutely devoured this hot, bloody, crazy series 🔥 I cannot wait to jump back into the world of Lola and her boys in the Born To Die series… I’m obsessed with this world and I don’t ever want to leave!!!!
I really like this series so far. I'm glad this one didn't have as much of a cliffhanger as the last one did. I wonder what is going to happen now that the 3 main enemies are dead. I'm also excited to find out what they will do as they all "run" the city now.

Shelby knows me better than I know myself sometimes.. she recommended this series to me because she thought I would like it. I can confirm. Shelby was 100% correct 🤣
Good series Meeting Lincoln made me what to read cruel black hearts to find out more about that story. Also attempted to read voyeur but feel like I know the story already? Maybe tho! I feel like Maddox and Syl were a little too back seat in this final book. They just sat back and let Lola do everything which is so unlike their normal alpha vibes ..... I Dino I think I would have liked them a little more involved.
I’m a SUCKER for a dark romance, a SUCKER for mafia romances, and the world’s BIGGEST SUCKER for reverse harem. So, obviously, this series really called out to me.
Let me also mention that I have this absolutely awful quality of not letting myself DNF books because I feel like I just need to push through so that; 1.) I can form a proper opinion. 2.) I need to know what happens otherwise it’s going to bother me, no matter how bad the book may be.
Well, this was the case with this series. I really wish I could go back and DNF. But I can’t.
So I’m going to keep my review short, and I’ll be using this review to cover all of the books in the series because I can’t be bothered to write one for each book. Probably spoilers ahead.
1.) This plot ends up being so dumb. She’s a serial killer who preys on men who hurt women, but she kills the Luciano brother without any actual proof that he hurts women. Just an absolutely idiot assumption that he does because he left the club with her. 2.) The fact that Maddox & Sylvester ever even forgive her or move past her killing their brother is beyond me, and I don’t think it makes sense. 3.) Tony is a GODDAMN MACGUFFIN!!!!! He serves NO purpose in the story other than to betray. We never even fully understand what his role with the Lucianos was; why was he so involved with them? We also don’t get a good idea of why he betrayed them. AND WORST OF ALL, it is HEAVILY implied that he sexually assaults Lola and she never even tells her guys about it? Even when they’re going to kill him. Like…. Wouldn’t that be something she mentioned? 4.) The whole crap storyline with her creepy brother is dumb and it’s meant to be the reason Lola is a serial killer, but it pans out to be so unsatisfying. He is made to basically be the devil for what he did to her but when it comes time for him to waltz back into the story, he’s not any real threat and they remove him from the story so fast. 5.) I hate Big Mike’s character. Is he part of the harem? Why the hell do we have this loose end with him all throughout and it’s never fully taken care of? It’s dumb and he shouldn’t even be in the book because he doesn’t matter.
Ugh… Honestly, even just going through all of this and writing about it is pissing me off because this series was bad and I never should have finished it. All of these books are like a 1.5/5. Goodbye.
Throughout this whole series, I loved all the characters. Lola, Maddox, Sylvester, and Viper are all interesting and fun characters. Honestly though I expected more of this book. The previous books had set my expectations for this one very high, and sadly violent hearts didn’t meet them. First and foremost I want to say even though I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the others I still have it a five star rating. Why? Because although it wasn’t the best, I still felt like it deserved it and the characters deserve it. All of them were make up one of my favorite reverse harems because of their chemistry, darkness, troubles, and commitment to each other. The relationship was fast paced, but not to the point where it effects the plot and story. As much as I love these characters, I feel like the author didn’t end this series properly. As I read the last chapter, I wasn’t expecting it to end the way it did. To say it was abrupt is an understatement. One minute they’re killing and the next the MC is having her ending thought. It shocked me because I expected this series to end with a Big Bang, but all I got was a chapter that wrapped everything up in a rush. There were many questions still unanswered for me, and honestly I felt like none were getting close to being answered at the end. Also I don’t see the significance of Mike at the end, and just felt like he was created as a character to fill in the gaps. If the author were to add him to the harem, it would’ve made more sense, but I really didn’t see the point of him otherwise. In the end though I guess I was content, but still have many questions about the plot. Overall I have this book a five, not based on the plot or ending, but based on my love for these characters. My love for Lola is never ending, and will stay that way forever. Sad to see this series end, and disappointed to see it end in the way it did, I’ll be moving on to another series by this author and I hope for it to be as good as this one. Farewell, my fellow bookworms.
