No one was ready for the end of the world. Technically, I guess it isn't over yet... because I'm still here. My dad used to say we were the lucky ones, and I believed him. We had survived the 'solution'. A vaccine the government had created and given us no chance to refuse. A drug that ultimately mutated and eliminated 99% of the population. The world might not have ended, but most of us that are left wish it had. My name is Rowan Keys. I had a family once. But now, it's just me. My dad said we were the lucky ones. That wasn't true. I'm just part of the 1% left waiting to die.
First and foremost: if you are considering whether or not to read this book, consider no longer...
This author creates characters that are your best friends, your family, and your worst enemies. The way she changes perspective from one character to the next is not only impressive, but it is what makes this book so special. Few authors are able to completely remove their own voice completely as they transition between characters, but each person in this story is distinct and unique.
As you read, you will likely find yourself completely lost in their worlds, feeling everything that they are, facing every conflict with them.
It's been quite awhile since I have read a book from an author that made me feel so connected to their characters on such an authentic level. This author does exactly that.
As you turn these pages, your heart will pound, your breathing will quicken, and you won't be able to put it down. Then, as you near the end, you'll be wishing desperately for more.
I can't wait for the movie, although I already know, the book will be better.
Embark on this amazing journey... you won't regret it.
First off, no idea what the one star review is talking about. I personally loved how rich the world was! The characters have unique personalities and quirks I’ve never really encountered in a dystopian YA novel before, and their emotions/feelings are richly described. I feel like I AM each of the characters. There’s lots of funny lines and scenes that made me laugh out loud (and get weird looks from people around me). I’m an author myself and I truly appreciate how perfectly human the characters are. By page 150 I felt like I knew them all intimately. Some of the moments I laughed at were really a “of course that happened! It’s (name)!” I highly recommend if you loved novels such as The Darkest Minds or Enclave!
This is the first book I read from this author and let me tell you that I loved it! Such a good book with great characters that keeps you obsessed with every page since the first one. The ending of this book.. come on! I just didn´t expect it! Can´t wait to read other books from this great writer! Amazing job! a must-read! A fantastic book that has it all! I happily endorse this story to any and all who are looking for a fiction enjoyable read and a completely different experience than anyone could imagine on their own. ¡Great book!
A definite must read!!!! I was hooked as soon as I started reading, couldn’t stop reading, and now I CANNOT wait for the next book in this trilogy! I loved all of the characters, especially Asher, Rowan, and Lilith! I enjoyed the perspectives and would love to see if this novel come to life on the big screen!
This story was professionally written and the writer was able to have me visualize each character. The characters were diverse and had their own voice that made this an excellent read. I am an avid reader and this is in my top five! In its own genre, it is number one. Let's hope for a movie based on the book.
Loved this book so much! Such wonderful character development! If you enjoy post apocalyptic novels, then this is a must! I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out!
If you are into young adult, dystopian, trauma filled books then I would 100% recommended reading 99% Down. As the story is written by a teenager, the characters thoughts and feelings feel authentic and are well-communicated. The character dynamics are to die for, and the multiple POVs are well-placed as to give the reader clarity without giving too much away. Overall, I loved reading this book and I know others will too!
This is a perfect example of what's wrong with self publishing. In the days of responsible publishers this book would have never made it in print. It's just boring in the zombie apocalypse genre, but the not at all veiled insinuation that the zombies are created by government mass immunizations is irresponsible exploitation in this troubled time. Do yourself a favor and strike a blow for responsible journalism and pass on this one.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading these books and getting to know each and every character. I’ve read the first two in this series, this is a dystopian apocalypse series with a bit of a distant twist to it and I cannot wait for the final book to come out! These books can be graphic at times which I don’t mind and they switch between different character POVs and past/current narratives. I personally enjoy books written in this style but I am aware that it is not for everyone. This story reminds us there are many different kinds of monsters out there! I hope y’all enjoy reading these as much as I have and I look forward to seeing what she comes up with next!
It was amazing. It is definitely for older audiences, since it is graphic in the violence, and also references sexual evils. But, I loved it. My favorite characters were Asher and Lilith. I did wish there was more with her, but maybe in a sequel. Anyway, 99% Down is a must read.
I couldn’t put this book down in my spare time and can’t wait for the next one. *Hoping* there is a next one. This young author has a very bright future ahead of her.
This was at least twice as long as it should have been and with poor editing. The spacing in contractions threw me off throughout the story. I found the main character unrealistic, and especially so at the end in a fight that even superwoman with have had trouble enduring.
Bro this book was kinda really good! Like I was surprised how much I liked it and I need a second book immediately! I highly recommend this if you wanna get into sci-fi but aren’t ready for anything complicated
I really enjoyed this dystopian near future story. A twist on the zombie theme with mutant creatures and survivors battling more against other survivors than the supposed threat. Possible sequel to follow?
I absolutely loved this book and know I will be reading it again. I'm not a teenager but this book was really good! My congrats to the author and I can't wait to read more of her books.
