Arthur Bozikas lives in Sydney, Australia and has been the CEO of a nonprofit disability organisation for over twenty years. His life story was supposed to be short; at twelve, he was given an expiry date. But life doesn’t always turn out as we expect. Now sixty, he’s had forty unexpected years of life since that use by date expired.
After his day job as the CEO, Arthur was lecturing many business management courses part-time for seven years at the same university he graduated from. Additionally, he also was teaching many business management subjects as a casual teacher at several TAFE colleges for eight years, finally concluded all his teaching commitments to focus more on his passion for writing fiction novels.
“I’d like to dedicate this novel to all the past, present and future blood donors for their precious generosity. I like to consider myself an action writer, but their action has and will always continue to save lives all around the world. I consider them all to be the true action heroes!”
This book was one I really wanted to like because I loved the concept. An ancient pair of glasses that helps you read and retain anything! No matter what you read. You can't keep them on more than so many hours without dying, so there's that. So limited time periods.
The problem is that the story was flat. Flat characters, flat plot, and then the ending made no sense at all! I thought maybe 3 stars until the end then...what!!!! No sense! 2 stars and most people think I am generous with my ratings for the most part.
Aside from the fact that the ending just drops off a cliff and the story is told in a simplistic manner, this book is barely readable because of the cardboard characters and excruciatingly execrable dialogue
The Book Glasses by Arthur Bozikas is a fantasy novel about 23-year-old Sam, who lives the dream we’ve all had before: she finds a pair of glasses that give her the world’s knowledge at her fingertips. Prior to this, Sam is illiterate and has never known privilege, and I really cheered for her in living out my dream. The Adolf Hitler chapter was a big claim, but clearly conveyed the author’s message: the Holy Father’s book glasses do not bless a person or the world, but empower who they are gifted to—which created a veil of tension throughout the story well. I like that, though I’ve thought of something like this before, it’s not a story I’ve ever read and was made even more unique by inclusion of legend. On top of that, the ending was wholly unexpected.
Even though the protagonist is in her twenties, this reads more like a YA book. It did bother me that there was no real character growth despite the fact she gained knowledge and had life experiences.
Awesome premise, but unfortunately, the novel is very poorly written and frankly absurd. The least absurd thing is the book glasses themselves. That part is cool... it's everything else. I thought it might have been written by a 13yr old during NaNoWriMo who doesn't know how the world works but that's not the case, so I'm not really sure how to approach this review. Unless the glasses have reach into the mundane world to magically force people to hand everything to you on a platter and bypass every workplace policy, professional standard, merit based process, and legal requirement, it's all distractingly implausible. It doesn't matter how smart you are, you still exist within a societal framework that doesn't automatically throw every possible opportunity at you, especially if you have no inherited social standing. I found myself constantly saying 'um, that's not how that works', not how choosing a job works, or workplace counseling, or dealing with police, or university or casinos or transferring large sums. Someone who so rapidly comes into that much money isn't going to skate under federal radar, media radar, and/or criminal radar (standard non glasses related crooks) and can't just transfer $150k to someone else in 5 minutes on her phone just because. The police aren't going to share names and circumstantial musings during interview. That's not how any of this works. I skipped through the novel because it's brief, and I wanted to see how far it would all go. Very imaginative, and distractingly unrealistic.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I am so-o-o disappointed at the sequel-here-I-come ending. Besides a really self-centered main character , I assumed there would be a realization of the folly of too much greed or some kind of acceptance of shortcomings. Or finding a simpler life worth living for. Nope.
The Book Glasses by Arthur Bozikas is a brilliantly written fantasy thriller which spell bounds the reader to the last page. The story is about the life of Samantha who cannot read, having dyslexia had made it difficult to hold onto a job. Samantha, in a short period of time suffers a great loss, loosing Jayce. She also loses Mr. Harman whose museum she worked at, who gives her a pair of glasses. These pair of magical and mysterious glasses change her life forever. Now she can do whatever she wishes, her achievements and thirst for knowledge is great. The story weaves dramatically as the glasses are sought after other people too, that means losing everything she loves.
Samantha turning into a supercomputer became my most favorite part. Her powers and the way she gains confidence is amazing. The author has built up the storyline in a way where suspense grows tremendously. There are twist and turns which are unexpected and I thoroughly enjoyed the ending. I loved the story and it's one of a kind, this is a must read.
The Book Glasses by Arthur Bozikas is a captivating novel about Samantha Page, an ordinary girl who is given an extraordinary chance. Sam's boss is murdered at the museum she cleans and in his dying breath he gives her something that changes her life, reading glasses. These glasses have a history of being worn by great men who have done wonderful and destructive things. All she knows is that she can now read where her dyslexia prevented her from simple understanding. As she grows more confident and knowledgeable, she realizes the men who have killed her boss may now be coming after her and those she loves.
Arthur Bozikas not only introduces a unique plot in The Book Glasses, but he layers this novel with suspense and action. The complexity of the characters becomes more apparent as the story unfolds. This book certainly grips your attention as Samantha is wedged deeper into the wisdom she is obtaining while danger multiplies.
In this book, there is a legend about these incredible Book Glasses. Legend says that when you wear them, it provides you with unmeasurable wisdom and knowledge beyond belief.
The Glasses are legendary and almost godly, which have made powerful people, throughout history, get their hands on this artifact. But, in the present day, it is a 23-year-old lady, Samantha Page, who has them.
This mysterious thriller novel knows how to get you hooked up on the story from the very beginning. Already, the synopsis is quite intriguing and as I flip the pages I found it even more profounding.
Giving the classical suspense of mystery novels, Sam gets hold of the glasses and becomes our superhero by protecting them from very bad, powerful people. The plot was embracing, I couldn’t get my hands off the story as I wanted to know more and more about the glasses and their intricacy. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for plot twists, mysteries, and surprises!
“The Book Glasses” was a really pleasant surprise. The plot revolves around Samantha, a 23-year-old woman who has given up hope of ever getting ahead in life. Her fortunes change when she discovers a pair of glasses that give her special abilities, turning her into a supercomputer and improving her quality of life. But she is not the only one who knows about the powers of these glasses, so she will have to face those who also seek to have the power they provide.
Arthur Bozikas made no mistakes in this very well-crafted story line, this vivid world, or this completely adorable protagonist, Samantha. I can't say enough good things about the writing. The world-building was fantastic and very intriguing. Sometimes, I even felt as if I were a part of the story. I absolutely loved this book; it's a new favorite of mine now. To be honest, it's the type of book that deserves to be turned into a film. If you enjoy fantasies and suspense that keep you guessing, this is the book for you!
There's a lot going on here in this book. The main character Sam, a standard modern character but with dyslexia, and magic glasses that make her into a genius. Also, a random prologue about Adolf Hitler having had the glasses in the past. However, I was unclear about if the glasses do or don't help when reading a computer screen or a mobile phone, or only when reading books. Interesting story, a lot of action, the writing is simple and standard and written in today's style. I enjoyed the plot and reading about Sam's transformation and gain in confidence once she obtains the glasses (though I found it odd that there is a line about her having so much makeup after her transformation that it would make Oprah Winfrey smile - is Oprah known for being a makeup guru?). It's also got a side storyline about her past and secret family history, and a cliffhanger for a second book.
This is the second book I read by this author and I must confess that I was much more surprised than with the first one. I was completely stunned with the way Arthur narrates the story and manages to make you connect with the characters. The book focuses on the story of a girl who is having a complicated and precarious life, not only she has no money, but also, she is running out of the desire to explore the world, however a stroke of luck leads her to get magic glasses that are anything but an ordinary accessory. The book is a perfect analogy to ambition and how misused it can be a complete disaster. In the end, you will discover how the main character is torn between resuming her former life or continuing with the current benefits not without first rethinking what is all she stands to lose. An entertaining book, very well written and with a plot that connects you to the end of the story, highly recommended!
I am passionate about education and understand its power. This book explores the power of knowledge through a novel centered on a young woman struggling with literacy. She discovers a pair of magical glasses that revolutionize her learning process, allowing her to understand and retain information, transforming her into a highly intellectual individual. The reader can appreciate the impact of education by following her journey as she discovers her new abilities, which empower her and unlock her full potential. A strong emphasis is placed on the democratization of knowledge, as highlighted by the quote, "Knowledge is the great equalizer. It empowers individuals to break free from the chains of ignorance and pursue their dreams." After reading the book, I realized it offers more than a story; it reveals all the possibilities education can unlock. It invites readers to embrace a journey of learning, believing every experience is a learning opportunity.
Fascinating, entertaining, engaging, and creative are some of the many words that I would use to describe this amazing book. Arthur Bozikas did an incredible job when writing this book, with an amazing plot and characters. Throughout this book, I really enjoyed reading it, and had many characteristics that made it stand out from others. First of all, I love the writing style of the author. Apart from being very clear and easy to understand, it had a really good thought-provoking plot making the book really enjoyable and engaging when reading. Also, I loved the character development throughout the story, these ones gave a great depth to the story. On another hand, the descriptions made by the author to the setting and world-building were very rich and detailed. This helped me to immerse and visualize more the trajectory of the story. In overview, this book can be a really good book for everyone.
The Book Glasses by Arthur Bozikas fits into the Witch and Wizard Thriller category and the main plot revolves around a legend with a pair of glasses as the main protagonist. According to a myth, whoever wore and read books with a pair of glasses which had been crafted out of a stone sent by God and intended to be for the Pope, would have a superior vision. This is actually what happened to the main character of the story, 23-year-old Samantha, who starts experiencing a new world thanks to the glasses. In a dialogue-based form, author Bozikas reveals a catchy and entertaining tale and he has employed such a good writing style that even though the sequences of events are fictional, they seem realistic. I felt embedded in the story and the dialogues helped me put myself in the shoes of the characters. Great pick!
"The Book Glasses" by Arthur Bozikas is a captivating tale that encapsulates the essence of transformation and the power of knowledge. The story of Samantha Page, a 23-year-old struggling to make ends meet due to her inability to read, is both inspiring and heartwarming. When she stumbles upon a pair of glasses that transform her into a supercomputer, her life takes an astonishing turn. I wholeheartedly recommend this book. Bozikas' storytelling immerses you in a world of boundless possibilities and prompts reflection on the value of learning and human potential. Sam's evolution from despair to wealth and education is enthralling. What I loved most was how the author explored themes of determination, overcoming adversity, and the profound impact of knowledge on one's life. This is a masterpiece that will leave you contemplating its message long after you've turned the final page.
Samantha Page has a rough life. She’s functionally illiterate, and her cash reserves are almost gone. However, her life is about to change. When she comes into possession of a mysterious pair of glasses, she finds that her cognitive abilities have increased a hundred-fold. Now, she can do a lot more than just read. She can suck up knowledge like a sponge. She has effectively become the human version of a learning computer.
Now, she is on the threshold of immense wealth, power, and every other commodity and perk that a human might desire. However, as is so often the case with magical or mystical objects, there are others who know about the existence of the glasses. Samantha will need to use all of her newfound gifts to overcome the enemies that have surfaced and who are intent on bringing her down.
It’s fine for mindless drivel for awhile. The writing is very simplistic. Everything comes way too easy to Sam. It’s annoying how no one expects her to develop any wisdom, only knowledge. Which is not how the world works. They’re all also so willing to just bend over backwards bc she’s smart. Nothing is really well developed so you’d think it’d skip right along. Because things happen fast. Like, she went to undergrad. She graduated after a year because she got high marks (is this even a thing)? She went to law school. She taught. She joined a law firm. Seriously, almost that fast. And yet, I felt it’d gone on too long. Why? Because there were no challenges. No suspense. Will she make it? Sure. She walked in the door. Why not? I finally gave up at some point when I realized I don’t want to read a whole series like this.
I simply love this book and its story! For sure, this book is the perfect excuse to leave the daily routine and immerse yourself in a fascinating science fiction novel. Even though the book is considered as science fiction, many things of the story are very accurate for today's reality, for example: the thirst for money, the importance of money, etc. The story is awesome and takes the reader into a new world in which suspense, fantasy and action are the perfect combination to engage any reader. Any reader? Yes, this book is not only for those who love science fiction novels, but for all those who love reading exciting stories. I love this book, because the narrative was very easy and I could easily imagine all the scenarios in my mind. I could not stop reading. Without doubt, I highly recommend this book.
This is a very intriguing storyline about the discovery of antique reading glasses which enable the user to have supernatural power that triggers the one reading to use the full capacity of their brain to achieve phenomenal accomplishments in life. The story concludes with the discovery of a second pair of glasses with similar results... Of course, you have to purchase the next book in the series to continue the story. I think the next pair of glasses will enable the user to experience even more amazing results, perhaps every having the capacity to see into the future. Prophetic visions would be an interesting storyline... I'll just have to read the next one to find out... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
The Book Glasses offers an incredibly interesting story that sets the stage for an exciting series. I've been looking for new books with original plots for a long time, and I think I've found what I was looking for so much in this book. I believe that "The Book Glasses" by Arthur Bozikas is a different book, where the author not only seeks to train the reader, but I think he also leaves us a much more powerful message. We live in a world where, believe it or not, many people do not know how to read or write. This is the case of Samantha, who, just when she thought there was no hope, finds a pair of special glasses. I really enjoyed reading this book which, in my opinion, has a super original plot.
