A child has been taken. A family is out for revenge.
Riley Cooke is just one day old when he is stolen from the hospital. His young mother, Shelby, is beside herself. DC Lucy Murphy and her team face a race against time to find the vulnerable baby and bring him home – before the child’s grandfather, fearsome gangster Pete Baker, takes matters into his own hands.
Pete is sure he knows who’s behind baby Riley’s abduction, and he thinks they ought to pray Lucy finds them before he does. Because someone is going to pay dearly for causing this much pain to his family.
They say never stand between a gangster and his target. But that’s exactly what Lucy must do – because if Pete is wrong, innocent blood could flow.
A shocking and addictive read that will keep you turning the pages. Fans of Martina Cole, Kimberley Chambers and Emma Tallon will love this.
Casey Kelleher was born in Cuckfield, West Sussex. Growing up she became an avid reader, loving in particular gritty crime thrillers and gangland books.
The Books
Standalone Psych Thrillers The Perfect Guest The Missing Mother The Babysitter's Secret MINE I'll Never Tell Only Child The Babysitter's Secret
Gangland/crime thrillers
standalones Bad Blood The Taken The Promise Rotten to the Core Rise and Fall Heartless
Griffin Estate Trilogy No Escape (book 1) No Fear (book 2) No Going Back (book 3)
The Byrne Trilogy The Betrayed (Book 1) The Broken (Book) The Forgotten (Book 3)
This is the first book of Casey Kelleher that I read, and I should be reading more of her books. This is a good crime / gang / suspense story which maintains good pace and is very well written. There are some books which are very easy to read, moving along smoothly and this is certainly one of them. This is apparently the third book featuring DC Lucy Murphy, and though I read this book out of sequence, it did not matter much as it is a standalone story.
Ashley & Shelby are expecting their first child. Ashley is in some trouble having borrowed money for a bet which he loses, and now struggling to repay. The Boland brothers are not the kind who will wait for long. Ashley is beaten up and warned, and the very same day Shelby is attacked by someone with a knife. Shelby manages to ward off the attacker but enters labour early as a result. She delivers a baby boy who they name Riley, but he is kidnapped the very next day from the hospital. DC Lucy Murphy works on the case and it seems that Shelby’s attack may be connected to another assault on a pregnant woman a few weeks back. . Shelby’s father Peter has a reputation himself as a local strongman though he has laid quiet since many years. The assaults bring back painful memories for Lucy as her mother died in an assault herself many years back.
The story moves fast and keeps you hooked. The twist is not earth shattering but comes at the right time after a good build-up. I loved how the characters were developed, and certainly look to reading the other books featuring DC Lucy.
My rating: 4.5 / 5.
Thanks to Bookouture, NetGalley and the author for a free electronic review copy.
This is a dramatic, action-packed and danger-ridden organised crime thriller which starts with a bang and ends on an equally shocking note. It's gritty and gripping with exciting developments aplenty and Kelleher really knows how to pen gangland crime. There is a couple of equally interesting plot threads and each had my heart thumping and fingers flipping the pages more and more anxiously. A cracking, fast-paced read with a palpably tense atmosphere. Highly recommended.
With what should be a wonderful moment in time for Ashley and Shelby proves to be anything but. They are expecting their first child but they are stressed out. Ashley is not only in debt to loan sharks, but he has a roving eye. Much more seriously, Shelby is stabbed.
Just recently, another pregnant woman was stabbed and killed. Fortunately, Shelby escapes her attacker. However, this leads to Shelby experiencing preterm labor. DC Lucy Murphy is certain both cases are connected. When Lucy begins questioning both Shelby and Ashley with hopes of identifying the attacker, she knows things are a bit off about Ashley.
The stress of being stabbed leads Shelby to delivering her baby early. When her baby is suddenly abducted Lucy is determined to do anything possible to get the baby safely back to Shelby and Ashley. The drama in this book was captivating and I was on the edge of my seat with hopes of the safe return of the infant.
The drama Shelby is experiencing with her baby is finely balanced in tis book as there is some focus on Lucy's personal life. Then there is Ashley and what he is up to in this book. Lastly, we have Pete, Shelby's father, and how he plays a pivotal role in this fabulous story. I love how all of these things were interwoven in the book and how captivating tension was in this book. I couldn't put this book down and loved how it reached a crescendo when it came to a riveting conclusion.
As No Going Back is the third book in the series, I definitely recommend reading the books in order. The previous books are No Escape and No Fear. However, as this book mostly involves the events at hand it could be read as a standalone. In my case, I have read and loved the previous books and this makes me appreciate Lucy on a deeper level.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
No going back is a really interesting crime thriller. It basically centres around pregnant women being attacked. Riley is one day old when he is stolen from his mother. There were so many different suspects that Lucy and her team find it really difficult to work out the motive behind the kidnapping. All the evidence is pointing one way but sometimes evidenced isn’t reliable...
So I found this book to be overwhelming at times with so many different characters and different storylines, even though they were all intertwined somehow. Although the book seems to be centred around the kidnap of Riley this doesn’t actually happen until halfway through so there was so much stuff that happens beforehand that to be honest I completely forgot that Riley was going to be kidnapped. Now as there was so many different suspects it was just so confusing who did what and why now I had my suspicions which were correct however my suspicions made no sense and that was what I found very difficult because I really felt like the author was telling us one thing but also telling us the complete opposite all at the same time. However once everything is tide together you actually realise what the author has done is absolutely fantastic job of writing a crime thriller.
There were so many different characters in the story and I must say that Pete that gangster grandad was my absolute favourite, he is the kind of man that nobody wants to mess with so when his grandchild is kidnapped he clearly is out for blood he actually was a legend and I loved him. Shelby was a bit of a wet flannel to be honest I could have done without her but obviously someone had to give birth to the baby so I understand why she was in the story however I really don’t think her presence added anything if I’m completely honest. Unlike her partner Ashley he was very central in the storyline and I actually found his storyline to be very compelling although at times it definitely wasn't compelling it was just damn right not okay but I felt like if there were to be a protagonist it would be Ashley. Ashley is a gambler whose luck ran out a while back even though he is a married mum with a child on the way he thinks of him self as a playboy. He ended up married to Shelby after dating her to get in with her father and his business. But they become pregnant and Pete insisted that his daughter were to be a wife before the baby came. Ashley trapped in a life he never wanted gambles for sport. He burrows money of local thugs after a dead cert is given to him, we all know there’s no such thing. So when Riley is kidnapped he can’t help but think of the men he owes money to, as the prime and only suspects.......
What makes this book gripping and the reason i read it in one sitting was that we get to follow all the main players of the story as well as the a police team investigating the kidnapped. Lucy the Detective in charge appwars to be extremely good at her job, but she can feel the similarities between her mothers murder and the first victims too similar bring memories to the surface she hadn’t realise she’d suppressed. You can really feel the intensity of her emotions that we offer his written for this character as you read and I honestly feel that is a skill that deserves to be praised. So following the police work is very interesting because we are at the forefront of the investigation whilst also being Privy to information that the police don’t have as well as still not really having a clue what is going on it was great because i really felt like i was a fly on everyone’s wall. Who has baby Riley and with everyone appear suspect and innocent concurrently it became a maze of who did what and way. I loved it!
I finish this book and thought I hope there’s more, i wanted to follow Lucy and her gran who is soooooo funny. It turns out she does have a separate series first book of which I’ve already brought. So its pretty obvious I would recommend this book especially to lovers of crime thrillers. Ite graphic at times and I had to skip a few bits which let’s say involved a belly and a knife so be warned. It was drama from behining to end also happily rate 4.5 🌟 rounded up to 5.
Thanks to Netgalldy, the author and publishers for free digital reviewer copy in exchange for my fair and honest opinions.
DC Lucy Murphy and her team face a heart-breaking case. Riley is just one day old when he is abducted from the hospital.
Then things really get complicated. Having to deal with a young mother under these circumstances is hard enough ... but the boy's grandfather is a gangster Pete Baker, and he's going to take things into his own hands unless Murphy and her team cam find the culprit.
Someone is going to pay dearly for causing this much pain to his family.
This is a fast-paced novel with an exciting plot. There's plenty of action and twists and turns that don't see to stop. The suspense is intense, starting from the very first page and holding strong to the very last. The characters are solidly defined. Although 3rd in the series, this is easily read as a stand alone. However, I do recommend starting at the beginning to grab the backstories on these most credible characters.
Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Another great read from Casey Kelleher. Ashley and Shelby are expecting a baby but life is far from settled for both of them. Ashley owes money to loan sharks and after a beating is told Shelby better watch herself too. Shelby has enough waiting for Ashley to come home so decides to walk to her parents and stay with them. On the way she is attacked and this makes the baby arrive sooner than expected. DC Lucy Murphy is called to speak to her about the attack and knows straight away Ashley is hiding something from them all. Another pregnant woman hadn’t been so lucky and was stabbed and killed in the same area so Lucy and Holder link the two cases. Just as Shelby is getting over the shock of being attacked and having the baby early, baby Riley is abducted from the hospital. Shelby is beside herself with worry and Lucy promises she will find the baby boy for her. I loved the way the story came together and I had an inkling about the kidnapper but wasn’t completely sure. I also liked learning more about Lucy’s past and meeting her Nan, Winnie again. This is a great book that I loved reading. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
This is a book in the DC Lucy Murphy series by Casey Kelleher.
I am always a little bit disappointed by this series. I am really interested in DC Lucy Murphy and what is going on with her. I feel like I don’t get enough of that thread and get way more of the mystery and all the new characters it brings.
Don’t misunderstand me. This is an excellent book with a well-plotted story and well-rounded characters, even the new ones that show up for this book only. I just want to connect to the main character more. Plus, I totally didn’t see this possible relationship between her and her co-worker. I was kind of sensing a relationship between her and DI Morgan instead. Kinda threw me for a loop.
This story is basically about a gal who gets her baby stolen from the hospital. There has been a previous attempt to obtain the baby of another pregnant woman but this resulted in the baby being slashed out of her tummy. This is a very intense story and there are trigger warnings for violence and being attacked.
Definitely an interesting read. You pick sides almost immediately and know that these characters are indeed more into the criminal element than they at first seem. I am putting Casey Kelleher on my must read list for sure.

There's no going back for Lucy. This gritty page turner London crime read is top dog. D.C. Lucy Murphy series book three. Shelby and Ashley Cooke live on the run down griffin estate London, the daughter of Pete and Janey Baker a well known old face the couple are expecting their first child and Ashley wants to provide for his family without the help of the parents, Shelby hates where they live and Ashley is no angel and gets into big money problems. Then within a week of each other pregnant Liza Fitzgerald gets knifed and murdered at Richmond park then eight months pregnant Shelby gets attacked on Wandworth common and manages to describe her attacker , this brings everything back for Lucy over twenty years ago history repeating itself and Operation Maple are called in. this book gave me loads of goose bumps many times as I read, it's an unput downable book, that is so fast pace on what is going to happen next, gripping story lines that keep you on the edge of your seat, its all about trust, revenge, and payback. I loved every wholesome page and hope to get to read more from Lucy Murphy. The author has scored a winner here for her readers.
Bookouture keep raising the height of the fence in the publishing world and their wonderful stable of authors keep on going and serving us up some amazing books. Amazon are going to have to create a sixth star for them! The book cover is colourful and exciting and gives a great idea of the pace inside the book All 54 chapters give you twists and turns and, as always with Casey Kelleher, the characters come alive from the pages of the book. Gangland type crime books with psychological thriller storylines make a great concoction and the author not only tells a great story with great characters but she also bring important social issues in her books into the thought process of the reader. With subjects as diverse as childhood obesity bullying, emotional fraudsters, dementia and the effects on the family, homeless people, the extent that the human mind can lead people to do things when desperate and also the way that family secrets can be uncovered way after the people involved have passed away. This book should carry a public health warning as you will want to cut yourself off from all contact until it is finished and then you will want to read it again This is the third book in the DC Lucy Murphy series but also reads great as a standalone book. Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and Casey Kelleher for providing me with an electronic advanced review copy of the book in return for a honest, unbiased review,
Casey Kelleher NEVER fails to impress me with her books and this one is no different. I have really taken to Lucy Murphy as a lead character and her backstory is so interesting and makes reading about her that little bit more intriguing. This time around Lucy and the team have to deal with a missing child. However, it’s not quite that simple as there has been a recent case involving the murder of a pregnant woman nearby. Ashley Cooke and his girlfriend Shelby are the people on the harrowing end of their child being taken. What doesn’t help matters is that Shelby’s father Pete is a known gangster and Ashley has also got himself into hot water in other ways, so are either of those factors cause for somebody to steal their baby?
This storyline had me gripped from the beginning to the end and although I did finally work out the kidnapper it was pretty late in the game! You could probably read this as a standalone but reading the first two books first of all are brilliant and are worth reading, but they also give you some real background on Lucy and the other supporting characters. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and CK remains one of my favourite authors!
Dc Lucy Murphy is facing her worst case yet as it is bringing the memory s back of her mum as she was murdered .someone is attacking pregnant women one has died .Ashley Cooke thinks all his dreams are coming true borrows money of the Boland brother s to put on a horse that he thinks will win but does not his wife Shelby has had enough she has only got a few weeks to go till she has the baby she decides enough is enough instead of calling a taxi she decides to walk as its only 5 min over common but someone is waiting for her and attacks her and a chain of events unfold one person is getting the blame. Lucy so misses not getting the time to spend with her gran Winnie now that women is a character . and Lucy has a big decision to decide this author is just brilliant never disappoints her reader i so recommend every book buy this author and so cant wait for the next instalment of this series
Shelby and Ashley are newly married and expecting a baby. Things should be good for these 2. But Ashley has a gambling problem and in debt to some loan sharks and he strays outside the marriage. In the same night he is beaten up by the loan sharks and Shelby is attacked while out walking to her parent's house. When she gets there she ends up going into labor. As she has baby Riley, no one can find Ashley. DC Lucy are called in when baby Riley goes missing from the hospital. They have been working on case involving a stabbing of another pregnant woman. Ashley is also getting threatened from the loan sharks and he needs to find a way to pay them back and he is beside himself thinking they stole his son. This book is full of suspense and I couldn't really get attached to any of the characters except for Lucy. She has a past that I would like to get to know more about. Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC to read and review.
DC Lucy Murphy is back on the case when a pregnant woman is attacked but the attacker gets more than they bargained for as the victim fights back. This is a story that has you gripped and wanting to reach out and slap most of the characters.I love Casey Kellehers books as she gets you hooked and you really don't want to put this book down.Lucky that she fought back the victim gives birth to a little boy but after a night sleep she wakes to another horror her baby is missing. The police think this attack and another are linked and with the victims help get a perfect e-fit out there and hope someone can name him.Casy Kelleher has nailed it again with this edge of your seat book and if i could i would give more than 5*
Whoop! Whoop! its always good news when you have a new Casey Kelleher on your TBR pile isn't it?! #NoGoingBack was blinking excellent! I started this at about 11.30 pm last night and I knew after the first 3 chapters that it was going to be a late one and by it was! Subsequently I'm using matchsticks to keep my scratchy eyelids open today, consider yourself warned peeps.
There's no messing about with #NoGoingBack as we jump straight in with an incident in Richmond Park on a dark night involving a young pregnant woman. The park is opposite the infamous Griffin housing estate where young mum to be Shelby Cooke now lives with her husband Ashley and she hates it. Living on the estate isn't what Shelby is used to, she's quite lonely and seems to only have one friend and that's mostly because Imelda is pregnant too.
As a new husband Ashley decided that he couldn't or wouldn't accept the generous offer made by his father in law of a deposit for a home in a better area, he wants to provide for his family himself. Now the way he chose to try to achieve this was a dead cert to fail and that failure set off a chain of events he had no control over.
A week later after yet another non argument (text and voicemail) with Ashley, she decides enough is enough and leaves his ass. Late at night Shelby forgoes a cab to her parents wheeling a suitcase through Richmond Park when she too is attacked but fighting off her attacker causes her to go into labour. As predicted Ashley true to form is nowhere to be seen when he's needed most, he's drinking and doing things that he maybe shouldn't.
Catching up with DC Lucy Murphy and her adorable nan Winnie was both delightful and heart breaking, The murder of her own mum when she was young meant Lucy was brought up by her nan and it's obvious that the two were close, seeing her drift in and out of lucidity must be so hard to watch. Winnie had me on tenterhooks on one or two occasions, I honestly thought she was going to tell us all! The fact that this case is somehow connected with Lucy's past is something that she struggles with, it's clear that it's crossing over into work and she knows her secret can't stay a secret for much longer.
Reading about Liza Fitzgerald the vicious murder and the attempt at womb raiding made me think of Lisa Marie Montgomery an American woman who on the 16/12/04 murdered and stole a baby from pregnant Bobbie Jo Stinnetts womb. Lisa event paid heaviest price being sentenced to death by lethal injection and was executed on 13/01/2021 at the Federal Correctional Complex, Terre Haute.
#NoGoingBack is the third book in this series and as always I suggest you read the others first for maximum enjoyment, obviously. The book never draws breath from the first page to the last, there's no let up in action and drama. We've been given a veritable cast of villains from the shadier side of life who could be responsible and as always I thought I knew the culprit, turn the page and I think it's somebody different.
Read for an honest review. Thanks to the author Casey Kelleher, #Netgalley and Bookouture for an ARC
Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Casey Kelleher, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous
Publication date 29th April 2021.
This is the second book I have read by this author and it is the third book in the 'DC Lucy Murphy' series but can be read as a standalone. I have previously read the second book in the series 'No Fear' which I enjoyed and would recommend.
I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. I am also a fan of Casey's previous book 'No Fear' and if this is half as good as that it is sure to be a great read. It also stated in the synopsis that 'Fans of Martina Cole, Kimberley Chambers and Emma Tallon will love this.' I am a huge fan of Martina Cole and Emma Tallon so am looking forward to see if it lives up to this. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).
This novel consists of a prologue and 54 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is based in London, UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture.
This book is written in third person (omniscient) perspective with the main protagonists being DC Lucy Murphy and Shelby. NnThe benefits of third person perspective especially if omniscient are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.
'No Going Back' discusses some topics that may trigger some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Casey discusses/includes strong language, foetal abduction and child abduction.
Wow!!!! What another absolute success Casey!! Absolutely LOVED it!!! Another very well written action packed crime thriller thay just kept on giving. The descriptions were excellent and the setting perfect for the storyline. The synopsis and cover worked well with the plot. I can't remember when I last read a book that was written with a third person omniscient point of view but Casey has done a fantastic job. I loved being able to see every characters thoughts.
The storyline was absolutely ram packed with action which kept me turning the pages while on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what happened next. The book was filled shock, suspense, tension and a twists to keep you on your toes. It was also very realistic and would make an interesting movie if done right. I never would have guessed who was behind everything. I thought I had it worked out and then BOOM came the huge twist!!! Nothing worse than guessing who did what when your not even half way through a book but there's no worry of that here. What an absolute shocker!!! The foetal abduction was completely unique and I've never come across a crime novel which has mentioned it before. Very satisfied with how it ended and I'm looking forward to reading about the next chapter in Lucy's career.
I loved the fact that it revolved around a strong female character (being female myself this is always a bonus). Lucy was realistic and strong and I love her personality and getting to meet her again. I really clicked with Lucy and also Ben who was also a strong character as well as being funny and light hearted, I really like Ben and look forward to meeting them both again. Perfect team dynamics and DS Morgan is a very competent and likeable boss. I think they all worked really well together and I'm looking forward to meeting them all again in what is bound to be an amazing next book in the series. I also absolutely adore Winnie and was very happy to meet her again. She is such a wonderful character who makes me laugh and I'm quite sad to see her suffering. She is definitely larger than life and made me laugh out loud on several occasions in this book!! I am loving watching Lucy and Ben's relationship and bond grow and develop and think the last scene they were in together was perfect.
Another MASSIVE congratulations to Casey on yet another successful novel. Loved every part of it and was sad to see it come to an end. I hope your busy working on the next book in this absolutely epic series!!
Overall another fantastic book in the action packed, page turning, breathtaking must read DC Lucy Murphy series
Genres covered in this book include Mystery, Thriller, Suspense, Crime Thriller and Action amongst others.
I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Martina Cole, Kimberley Chambers, Emma Tallon and anyone who loves non stop action thrillers.
303 pages.
This book is just £2.99 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!
Rated 5/5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

No Going Back is book three in the DC Lucy Murphy series by Casey Kelleher and for that reason, I'd really recommend you read the other two books first. Well, that and the fact that you are missing a great series if you don't. This time around we join Lucy and the team as they investigate a terrifying assault on a young pregnant woman. Given the victim's ... complicated family life, it's not clear if the attack is revenge or something more sinister, but with the assault bearing a stark similarity to another attack, the team cannot rule out the fact that this was targeted and the motive was something almost unspeakable.
I'm really enjoying getting to know more about Lucy and her backstory with each new book. She has a very dark past, one which haunts her and which is brought to the fore as a result of this latest investigation. Only her DI knows the truth about what happened to Lucy and her mother, but it's hard to see how she can keep it from her colleagues for much longer as it really does impact her work this time around. Not so much that it stops her from doing what she does best in connecting with the victims and getting to the heart of the investigation, but it certainly shows up her vulnerabilities which is interesting to see being developed. There are a few other developments towards the end of the book which raise a smile too, and I'm curious to see where they may lead.
The tension is just right in this book, and Casey Kelleher maintains a kind of mystery about the whole investigation by bringing forth many lines of enquiry and several devious and nefarious suspects. It's fair to say that the victim's family are far from being whiter than white and that adds conflict as you never quite know what they may do in retribution. It's one of those strange books where you never really like the victim, or I didn't anyway, and the word spoilt could have been created for the mother, Shelby. But then you realise that, despite her faults and her attitude, she is a new mother and seeing her pain explored due to what occurs in the story, makes her far more sympathetic than she may otherwise have been. It takes a lot to soften those edges, but baby Riley really does seem to do it and the author has portrayed that bond between mother and child perfectly.
This is quite a gritty series, and the Griffin Estate, where Lucy grew up and where most of the wrong doings take place, really does feel authentic, a believable slice of London life. The setting puts you on edge and from the very opening chapter, which is creepy and nerve jangling, the pacing and the tension are pitch perfect, helping me power right through to the ending. I like the police team, especially Lucy, and it's great to see her continue to grow and settle into her role as Detective over the course of the three books. But I get the feeling that there is more to come, that some of the revelations from this book really do need to be explored further and I'm interested to see where the author might lead us next. Great stuff.
Ashley Cooke is determined to prove himself to his pregnant wife Shelby, the daughter of gangster Pete Baker. But he turns to the Boland brothers for a loan he can't repay. Shelby is viciously attacked which triggers an early labour. Were the Boland brothers and Ashley reponsible and will any of them be safe from the wrath of Pete? No Going Back is the third book to feature DC Lucy Murphy and the notorious Griffin estate. I have previously reviewed the previous books in the series: No Escape and No Fear. This case gets much too personal for Lucy as it brings back a huge heap of emotions as her own mother was murdered while pregnant. Lucy is anxious to prevent other families going through what she has experienced and is utterly dedicated to catcthing the killer before any more pregnant women can be attacked. Lucy's personal life inevitably features heavily in this case which has such similarities to her own mother's murder. She has the dilemma of remembering the killer's face from 20 years ago and now has to determine whether to search for him. This is confused by her grandmother's health and concern for her wellbeing that could be negatively affected by reoprning the case. There is further development of Lucy's professional relationships and a potential romance... The characters created by Casey Kelleher are just so realistic because the writing is so good. I felt like I could understand the motivations of every single person in the book whether I could relate to them myself or found them repugnant. Each character was multi dimensional and had nuances to their behaviour and personalities. The case is brutal and obviously attacks on pregnant women is very emotive. There is also gang related violence but this is not gratuitous or prominent. The plot and setting are compelling due to their authenticity. No Going Back is gritty, emotional, thrilling, tense and excellent!
No Going Back by Casey Kelleher is a police procedural based in England. In the prologue, a pregnant woman is viciously attacked in a park. A crime that is confronting even to the antagonists, the gang bully boys.
This gritty crime book deals with the seedy, gangster-ridden, impoverished side of life. Stairwells and lifts in apartment blocks are strewn with litter and smell of urine. Ex-convicts hang out in derelict buildings also full of human waste. In this milieu, the spoilt daughter of a former gang lord, Shelby Baker, is attacked while 8 months pregnant. As the blurb tells us, a baby goes missing. (I'd have thought that's a spoiler.)
This case sees 26 y.o. DC Lucy Murphy confronting the monsters in her past when her mother was murdered. Lucy witnessed it as a 6 y.o. and still suffers from PTSD as a result. Her police colleagues add a warm touch, DC Ben Holder, her chief, DS Morgan and forensic psychologist/ profiler, Zack Lownrey. A nice love triangle is set up without Lucy realising it.
The other protagonists are Shelby's husband, Ashley, who has incurred a gambling debt to the Bolland brothers, parents, Pete and Janey. The antagonists are the gangster Bolland brothers and ex-convict Jay-Jay Andrews, who is doing a dirty job for them.
No Going Back is fast-paced, has twists and turns and keeps you guessing. In Zack's words, the crime isn't heard of in the UK and rare in USA. DC Murphy, DC Holder, DS Morgan and Zack Lownrey are likable characters, worth reading further books about. A minor quibble is the head jumping within a paragraph, and through each chapter.
Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for this Arc in exchange for my review.
No Going Back by Casey Kelleher is the seventh book I have read from this author and Casey's books just get better and better.....I love the way she writes all of her books I have read. This latest book is the third book in the DC Lucy Murphy series and I so recommend you read the two other books within this brilliant series you won't regret it. Ashley Cooke married to Shelby and they live on the the notorious Griffin estate. Shelby is the daughter of gangster Pete Baker. Shelby who is pregnant with their first child and wants the very best for his wife and he turns to the Boland brothers for a loan and this was not a small loan! It turns out that Ashley can not repay this loan and this is when the nightmare begins! One evening whilst Shelby was out walking in the park which she used as a shortcut, she is viciously attacked and this triggers an early labour.
Were the Boland brothers responsible for the attack on Ashley's wife?
Ashley is a proud man and does not want to get Pete Baker involved!
How, will Ashley pay this large loan off? The interest is mounting up!!!!!
DC Lucy Murphy gets called to this attack on Shelby. However, this case is very personal for her and it brings back a huge heap of emotions, as her own mother was murdered while pregnant. DC Lucy Murphy wants to prevent other families going through what she has experienced especially as the attacker as never been caught! and she become utterly dedicated to catching the killer before any more pregnant women can be attacked. WoW.....WoW.......Brilliant book!
Big thank to Casey Kelleher, NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC of A Death At Seascape House in exchange for an honest review.
here’s no going back. That’s very true. That’s why it’s important to think before you act, because once it’s done, it’s done and you will have to live with the consequences.
Sometimes you have the best intentions though and you are sure it will change everything for the better but what if the outcome is quite the opposite? Was it worth risking everything you had for? NO! But there’s no going back and you will have to work hard to crawl out of the deep pit you dug for yourself.
Detective Lucy Murphy and her team have to deal with a case that brings back a lot of bad memories for her. She is determined to put her personal feelings on the backburner and focus on catching the culprit, but thoughts keep whirling through her mind. Will she act on them or will she put them to rest, because there’s no going back. The past cannot be changed and some things are better left as they are. Maybe sometimes getting justice is not the most important thing?
I have loved every book in this series and I hope there will be a lot more to come. This one was maybe a bit less gritty, but my heart overflowed.
I had quite a few scenarios in my head about the outcome, but – I suppose you can guess what is coming next LOL – not one of them was the correct one. 😊
I never saw that coming and that’s what turns a great book into an amazing one. 5 stars
It was a fast paced Thriller, about the disappearance of a new born baby from the hospital, and accusing fingers at practically everyone.
The setting was great, has a well thought out plot, but I didn't like how it kept dragging especially from the beginning. I was tempted to DNF it, but I just decided to keep on reading. It was towards the middle, the real action started, making it interesting.
I also don't know why most thriller action books have to include this 'detective-with-a-horrible-past-assigned-to-a-case-with-a-similiar-story'. It's all so cliche! What is the detective expected to do? Solve this crime and solve their own personal problems?! Oh, and the superiors always keep on asking, 'Are you okay with this case? Can you handle it?' 😬😬 Here too, the Detective had a very horrible childhood and now has to relive it because of this case. At least here, I'm glad it wasn't dwelled on a lot.
Anyways, it was still a good read. Full of action. I love the mafia side story that was included, with bits of suspense. I already guessed who the kidnapper was, but finding out at the end was quite intriguing, most especially what her reaction would be.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this ARC.
Lucy Murphy as a character is really growing on me. I think she is feisty, likeable, perceptive and trusts her instincts and it was great to be back in Lucy’s world again. Here she is investigating a murder, an assault and a baby abduction. Are they linked, if so how? When a reminder of her past makes one of the investigations harder for her she relies on the support from her DS. I enjoy reading of her working rapport with her DS and the trust they have in each other. As always, there are lots of separate story threads here which are intricately linked and all fall into place and are tied up nicely towards the end. Overall, this book had everything I like - suspense, great writing, a good plot, and was a fast paced, thrilling read. I suspected who the murderer was and was right, and I hope there is a follow on to this book and I am really enjoying this series. 4 stars
No Going Back by Casey Kelleher Publisher: Bookouture Genre: Mystery & Thrillers Publication Date: April 29, 2021
No Going Back by Casey Kelleher is the third book featuring DC Lucy Murphy. I had not read the previous two books, but was able to easily jump into this one.
Wow! This book grabbed me from the start and wouldn't let go! I literally did nothing else today because I HAD to finish this book! I found this book to be fascinating with a great story line, an incredible mystery and interesting characters. I loved how this was fast paced and so good!!!!
I will definitely be reading the first two books (and any others that are released in the future)! This was such an exceptional read! If you enjoy crime dramas, you will love this book. (Did I mention it is available on Kindle Unlimited?)
I'm so grateful to Casey Kelleher, Bookouture, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC ebook in exchange for my honest review.
This is book 3 of a 3 part book series. They can be read as stand alone, however to get the full benefits of the main character Lucy and her background story, I would highly recommend that you read books 1 and 2 first. This has truly been another fantastic gripping read from Casey. She really does know how to keep her readers entertained.
I loved the story, found it to be a real page turner right from the get go. Absolutely gripping and fast paced, plus it was great to be reacquainted with the characters of Lucy, her Nan, Morgan and Holder, they really are so well written that you forget they are not real as you lose yourself truly into the story. I had my suspicions as to who the murder was and turned out I was right, but this in no way spoiled my enjoyment of the story.
So if you haven't read any of Casey's books before, then don't delay any further as her books are highly entertaining that leave you grasping for more.
Shelby and Ashley Cooke, are expecting their first baby, but there is a fly in the ointment namely Shelby's parents Pete and Janey Baker. Ashley desperately wants to support his new little family but Pete always ridicules him for it.
someone is out there attacking pregnant women, enter DC Lucy Murphy, unfortunately, it is close to home for her as she is remembering her mum being murdered.
Shelby hates where they live and wants to get off the Griffin estate. Ashley gets a dead cert on a horse race and stupidly borrows money from the violent Boland brothers hoping he can win enough to buy the house Shelby wants.
Well, this was a brilliant book that kept me turning page after page to see what happened next.
Casey has a brilliant crime mind and writes a damn good story. Just fantastic.
This is the 3rd book in the Lucy Murphy series by #caseykeller . What a book (series).... I think my kids were ready to call childline, as I was so engrossed in this book/series!! 😉
Lucy Murphy is a great down to earth character, so it’s easy to get into the storyline. A fantastic police officer, who actually shows that she cares for the people she tries to help. Even though she has her own things going on.
This is a gritty book and as soon as you finish it .... my first thought was “oh when is the next one out?!” Please tell me there will be more of Lucy ?! I think that says it all!!
Every time I hear that Casey Kelleher has a new book out I don’t even need to read the blurb I just have to read it. Well like all her previous books this one was an absolute cracker of a read. I flipping loved it and just wanted to keep on reading this in one sitting it is that good. This story had me on the edge of my seat at times and talk about a gripping read. As well as Lucy and her team trying to find the abducted baby we also learn more about Lucy’s private life and of course we catch up again with the wonderful Winnie Murphy who I absolutely love. I have no hesitation whatsoever in giving this book 5 ⭐️
I enjoyed this thriller book. This is a newer author for me and I look forward to reading more in the future. This is a well written story about a missing child and a family who wants revenge. The characters are connectable and bring the story to life. The twists and turns are sitting on the edge of your seat page turners. This is a fast paced story that is engaging and kept me turning pages to the end. What happens when a baby is stolen from a hospital and it becomes a race against time to bring him home? This is full of action and gangsters at that. This is truly a great story that I enjoyed. I highly recommend it.
I've absolutely loved the Lucy Murphy series with No Going Back being my favourite. Wow what a story I just couldn't put this book down, I just wanted to read and read to find out what happens next. I don't want to spoil anything for any other readers but the twists were brilliant. Oh and Lucy and Winnie what lovely character's I'm really going to miss them. The ending had me crying and laughing and I put the book down and just thought, I thoroughly enjoyed that from the beginning to the end. Thanks Casey I'm all read up on all your books and looking forward to the next one 💕I'll Never Tell 😘 xxx Simply The Best Author xxx
