Alfred, Lord Tennyson was one of the greatest and most beloved poets of the 19th century. This volume includes more than 40 of his most beloved poems, ranging from the iconic 'The Charge of the Light Brigade' to the heartfelt 'Ulysses' to the dream-like 'The Lady of Shalot'. Drawing upon Arthurian legends, contemporary events and personal experience, Tennyson's remarkable poetry embodied the Victorian era.

Was a slow read, a few pages a day. I appreciated reading the original Lady of Shallot after its role in Anne of Green Gables. There were a lot of longer poems that were hard to concentrate on with children around. I enjoyed the journey.
There are some excellent poems in this collection. Poems on religion and the feelings towards war and country. A deeper sense of love for stanzas and historical poetic writing is captured in the poems, "The Lady of Shalott." and "The Vision of Sin." Religion and a talk with self identity on religion is a central theme of Tennyson's poetry. These poems draw upon legends to tell stories on contemporary events happening in the life of Tennyson. Poems I would recommend from this collection. The Lady of Shalott (One of the best poems ever written on beauty, loneliness, and the ancient knight lore.) The Kraken The Ancient Sage Tears, Idle Tears Lucretius Tithonus The War.
Top poems imo: 'The Mermaid', 'The Kraken', 'Morte d'Arthur', 'Break, Break, Break'.
I would totally read a modern day YA novel where 'The Curse' in the Lady of Shalott is that she has to kill him, but it's a rom-com and they end up falling in love instead. If anyone wants to write that. I would read it.
