Fear, dread, terror—the harrowing true story of a young boy growing up in the middle of England in a house filled with ghosts and phenomena many of us would only witness in our worst nightmares. What is it that made the house on Park Street such a hotbed for paranormal activity? This is “The Haunting on Park Road.”
It was a house on Park Road, an ordinary house – ordinary until the shadows came out to play. Ordinary until the spirits within terrorised me and my family who dared to call this place our home.
My name is Andy and, in this house, I learnt that I was a beacon to spirits, not all of which were kind. Some were intent on frightening us and forcing us out. In this house, I spent nights cowering from the shadows that stalked the hallways. Nights were spent wondering whether the unseen footsteps were coming my way to scare me—or worse. Step inside the true story of what it was like to grow up with the gift of seeing spirits and see why this “gift” was also a curse, as the harrowing spirits twisted and infused their way into my life, changing it forever.
About the
Andy Hopkins is a spiritualist medium and paranormal investigator. He became aware of Spirit during his early childhood and grew up in a haunted house, a house that paved the way to his life in the world of the paranormal. He has investigated many haunted locations both at home in Great Britain, across the United Kingdom and around Europe. As a medium he has performed over a thousand investigations in some of the most haunted places – from asylums to castles and private residences. His passion is sharing his experiences from the horrifying encounters he has had in the darkest of places, to the truly blessed and beautiful interactions he has had with Spirit. Andy believes it is his mission to help others to see what is beyond the veil between our world and the Spirit World. When asked why he shares his experiences, he states that he believes that through experiences like his own, people can see the truth in their own experiences and seek comfort in knowing we live on after death.
Not sure why I am not creeped out by this memoir of the author, but I am not finding it scary. Maybe the way it is written - not sure, but I find myself falling asleep while reading it. As much as I love to read true ghost stories this one just is not sending shivers down my spine like normal.
There seems to be quite a few things that happen within the story which would normally be considered "do not turn off the lights", but all that happens when I turn off the lights is to go to sleep so whatever is suppose to keep me awake with this book is not working.
This is another dreaded dnf - no stars - I do not rate books I do not finish.
I really enjoyed this spooky memoir. As I grew up in the town that it was set in I really enjoyed reading about all of the local people and places and I loved the 80s nostalgia. I’d really like to read about some of the ghost walks that Andy has been on. Would highly recommend 👍
I watched a movie ages ago called “white noise”. It was quite creepy at the start - this guy (Michael Keaton, I think) thought his dead wife or somebody was trying to communicate through static in the TV signal. It kept on being creepy right until the end when some badly animated ghosts turned up and actually engaged the protagonist in a fist fight. It was bloody stupid and all the suspended disbelief evaporated on the spot. So it is with this book. The author leaves nothing to the imagination, describing monsters under the bed and phantoms in wardrobes with such earnest detail that he leaves nothing to the imagination. The end result is an experience about as convincing as the shuffling aliens from the Sylvester McCoy era of Doctor Who. I really wanted to give Andrew the benefit of the doubt, but every time he builds up any sense of atmosphere, he goes there with the whole Monsters inc routine, and my bulldada detector slips into overdrive. I had horrible nightmares as a kid, and I remember the feeling of absolute conviction that evil entities were toying with my fears. If this guy actually believes half the things he’s written about, he has my profound sympathy.
I've been reading a lot of paranormal books lately and this one creeped me out way more than any of the others!! I found myself jumping at shadows and seeing crap out of the corner of my eye work😆even my hair at one point nearly gave me a heart attack 😳
I have no idea if any of thos story is true, if the author had schizophrenia, or if every incident actually happened. But if you tale him at his word, this story is as scary as the movie "Poltergeist", and others like it. I haven't followed this author and just happened to come across him, so if he is publicly known, I'm not aware of it.
The story is harrowing.
One question I have, though, is if spirits like this are so extremely demonstrative, why is this level of activity never seen on paranormal research shows where they beg the spirits to show themselves and nothing happens? If all he had to do is taunt the spirit and the results were things like sponta episodes fire, why is that NEVER found by researchers?
That's what makes me kind if question his account.
But as a story, what a ride! It's pretty horrific!
It wasn’t quite what I expected ....I too sense/here/see spirit from a very early age and I’ve never encountered anything that was described by the author I lived not far from Park Road and my best friend in the late 80s and early 90s lived on said road so I was a frequent visitor there
This is an interesting book, of quite frightening happenings experienced, by a young and sensitive person, although the author understands this now, life must've been terrifying, for the young author. A book well written, documenting these harrowing experiences. Anyone interested in ghost stories will enjoy this book.
I also grew up in a haunted house though not near this terrifying! I believe everything Andy writes. There are spirits and demons. I don't know how he managed to survive. I am glad he's made it his life's work to learn more about these spirits. And I hope to find out more of what he has learned.
Brilliant autobiographical book about the authors childhood and the hauntings that he and his family experienced at their home in Park Road. Omg reason for the 4* and not 5* is that I was expecting more "ghost hunting" and for the book to follow him into adult hood a bit
Draws you in as you read. Story written Well and the author lends to the imagination.. Read this in two days. If you love the paranormal this is a must read
OMG! This one had me enthralled I couldn't put it down, those green eyes looking through the window. I'm glad I didn't read it late at night I wouldn't have to bed. Highly recommend
